[Q] Battery overnight - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi , i just want some feedback from you guys if this is normal ?. i charged my phone up to 100% then used it till it was 95% . went to sleep woke up its 81% so thats 14 percent overnight. keep in mind ive been having alota battery drain so i kinda modified my s3 with the siyahi kernel and used his better battery profile so my phone is a bit under volted right now.
everyone in dubai seems to be happy about their battery except for me
please help:crying:

Your android system is using way to much battery, it shoukd be using 10% or their abouts....15% at a push. I recommend a fresh start from scratch bud.

install better battery stats and let it run overnight after a full charge and unplug, then have a look under kernel wakelocks and partial wakelocks and see what the results are, post back here if you need help interpreting the stats(post screenshots)

for straters , you sleep way too much bro . second how do you get thattttt . i have everytin off too

bump - help !

I have ~1% - ~1.5% per hour drain

Turn off Wifi, Mobile data, GPS, bluetooth, Sync when sleeping that's the key to lessen battery drain overnight. my drain for 8hrs is 3-4%

[Q] Battery life normal?

Hi guys,
I'm using GingerMod v0.3 with the default kernel (ninphetamine 2.1.3).
My battery was at 100% when i went to sleep. After about 8 hours when i woke up, it dropped to 92%. Is that normal?
I have turned off automatic sync as well as gps. Even "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore" was off. Display was at a minimum 3%. Most of the battery % was used up by Android OS.
given the percentage of the draining 8% over 8 hours i quess is pretty good. I quess different rom + kernel produce different effects. Yours is considered ok.
ya the drain is quite normal

1% an hour during sleep mode is considered good? i had the impression that it would only drop 3-4% during sleep.

More than good I'd say. And you never can have a constant rate, one night it will be 3-4%, other night it will be 9-10%, depends on the processes running at that period. If you have Better Battery Stats installed then you will be able to see what had cost that extra drainage under Partial Wakelocks section.
I normally have 3-4% drain in an overnight period of 8-9 hours, but yesterday it was 15%. Then I saw it was Camera360 Ultimate which was running and searching for GPS!
Regards.
That's about similar to what i get on standby with data enabled so yeah good battery there/
Thats good ? Mine drops 1 percent overnight (+-10 hours) with original battery Or stays at 100 until morning when I wake up with 2000mah bat... Data and wifi turned off.
But I presume thats just me being battery friendly user
I tried better battery stats and it seems the Email app is consuming the most resources during sleep. hmm...

[Q] Galaxy S2 battery drops sharply ...

Hi ,
I'm on stock ROM KF3 (Rooted) . Since last week I'm facing wierd problems with battery .
Today morning My battery was on ~ 50 % , then after 15 minutes , to my surprise my phone was off . I turned it on & to my shock saw battery critically low notification ( with 1% battery remaining ) .
Also after 10 minutes of being turned on , the indicator increased to 7% automatically .
I then plugged it in and made a complete 100% charge .Within 20 minutes from being unplugged it was on 94% ,So i did a restart and to my shock again the indicator showed 64% . Then within nearly 15 minutes on being turned on the indicator is increasing automatically in steps of 1% & now indicator shows 72% .
Is this an issue with the phone , battery or what .??
FYI I'm using battery monitor widget & circular battery indicator .
I'm posting my battery usage , battery graph from battery monitor widget & battery history from battery monitor widget for diagnosis . Please help .

Did you try to calibrate your battery? There's an app available on the market called "Battery Calibration".
Charge your phone to 100%, start Battery Calibration and choose battery calibration. Plug your phone off and let it fully discharge. Then charge it to 100% without a break.

If battery calibration doesn't help:
Flash a newer ROM.
I recommend the latest, stable version for your region => XWKJ1.
There is a non-wipe Frankenstein version from Intratech (=> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278).
Please read the first post carefully. Official Firmwares can be found in second post and Frankenstein versions (with can easily combines with different Modem and/or CSC files for other regions and/or providers) are in the third post.
After flashing the new ROM you may root your phone like described in the first post, or just flash a working CF-Root kernel from Chainfire.
For XWKJ1 CF-Root kernel XXKI4 and XWKI8 will do - as long as there is no CF-Root kernel exactly for XWKJ1.
Good luck !

Normally you have to choose battery calibration, before you unplug. but yes, that's how it works.

i was also getting weak battery backup pf 10-15hr max.....then updated to custom rom.
1.senesation 1.8 with ninphetamine 2.1.3, now i am getting more than 22-26 battery backup with use of voice call, messaging, browsing, music play.
2. i also collaborate battery by charging battery to 100%(until unplug charger comes) then drain battery until it gets switched off. then again i charge to 100% then immediately went to CWM n cleared battery stats
3. Also i am using Juice Defender
I uploaded screenshots. You can see, Its already done 13.40hr still battery is 57% left.

Dude,
Sorry to say that, but you did a bad method of battery calibration...
You are wrong.
The best and only way to calibrate accurately your battery is described here :

I have a similar problem. My battery stays at 100% and prevents itself from charging. Last night I left my phone unplugged and when I woke up this morning it was still at 100% and when I plugged in the charging cable it said Phone is charged, remove charger.
This causes some real problems. Like yesterday I was using my phone then bam! The screen shut off. That was strange, I thought. It didn't look like the usual screen timeout and sleep because it didn't dim first. But then I tried pressing the power button and that didn't work either. So I took the battery out and put it back in. Still nothing. I started getting really bummed. What could be wrong? So I connected it to the charger and still nothing. Now I am getting really, REALLY bummed. Well after a minute or two on the charger I saw the big green battery come on with 0% charged level. Well, I am happy because the phone is working again, but confused because I just took the phone off the charger less than a half hour ago. Why 0% now?
I am still on totally stock, no root, no nothing. I have not tried battery calibration, but somehow I don't think it will help my problem.

Battery indicator inconsistancy

Hi
Its been 2months i bought galaxy s2 and 1 thing i dint like is the battery life. Im getting only 5hours of battery life with internet on. Ive installed the battery life saver apk Juice Defender and still the battery life is very less. Please suggest me something.
Also i read a post in the same website saying that the android 2.3.3 has this OS problem. The form told me to shutdown the phone and remove the battery for 5mins Nd use again. But when i shutdown the phone the battery was 45% and when i switched on again, the battery indicator was 15%. Then after sometime, it increased to 27% without charging and then reduced normally. Please help me with this, what might be the reason for battery life being inconsistant and what can be the solution

you might have an application that keeps your phone awake. what i mean is by having your screen off there are applications in the background still running. So my best advice is Juice Defender does not do anything and infact it drains more battery than saving it.

I believe you have rooted your phone, if not follow chainfire thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399) for rooting the phone. After rooting goto CWM recovery > Advanced > Wipe Battery Stats. This should give you a clean slate on the issue of battery inconsistency.
As for battery drain, remove all battery saving apps like JD, they infact consume more battery. Install Betterbatterystas apps from market ( paid app) or the free version available on XDA, and check for the partial wakelocks / kernal wakelocks to get to know what apps are killing your battery.
Link to the Betterbatterystats thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
hope this helps!

Which Rom you are using at this moment...
Yes Smasung Stock Roms do have this problem as reported by Some users.
If you want give it a go ... Try Battery Mods for S2 ... They do help In this Inconsistency.
Depending on your Current Version You can find Battery Mod which will help you.

As you are saying that your mobile seems "hot"
First you need to confirm that its charger/device issue or only with battery.
First do battery calibration with this method: (In this method you need custom recovery for your device
This may help you

Dont forget to thank him there on his thread.
IMPORTANT: You can skip this step>> "Wait 20 min after you are sure it is 100% (phone should stay plugged in)" - As i dont know much about LG devices and their batteries
Now some advice from me-
If you can cover it >>> Never charge battery again and again before 15 or 20%
Always charge your battery to 100% at once and use your device till 15% or less than 15% and then again charge it full and so on...
This will make your battery backup good as well for battery life

According to the Battery Doctor app, you shouldn't leave your phone on charge for more than 9-10 hours(MAX), otherwise it WILL harm your battery.
You should try hibernating some of those apps with Greenify.

Use better battery stat (check play store) or similar app to track draining application.
In this way you can find a culprit
