Hey everyone...I get 4G everywhere and I mean everywhere, but as soon as I step into my new apartment I have a hard time holding a signal at all, it's terrible. Is there anything I can do?

If your willing to spend the money I believe verizon sells signal extenders. I don't know how much they are, how they work or if they extend 4G but it is an option.
You could also just use wifi like everyone else does when they're at home...

they only extend 1x, so you're SOL for data.

When on Wifi, it will work for texting too? (sorry, while I'm pretty educated in rooting and crap I'm not so much on the basics lol)
http://www.verizonwireless.com/verizon-wireless-network-extender-1.shtml
They extend 3G and voice only, not 4G. They also require you to have an existing broadband connection, because they connect to the Verizon network through the internet. They're basically like having your own micro-cell in your home.

Oh I thought you meant your 4G signal was bad in your house.
If your signal is bad then the only choice you have is basically the network extender or using VOIP apps like gvoice.

Actually it says you can use any ISP as long as there is a 1mbps connection available but I assume that you might not get 3g extended? Idk though so don't listen to me.
Yeah, it isn't just the 4G it's signal period, I get 5 bars outside and it gets super random inside. Sometimes it drops, sometimes it's 1x then 3G then 4G...it's so random but super unreliable.

The network extenders cost $250 and work up to 100 feet, I get 4 bars(only during a call,0 bars if I'm not using it) all over my property where I used to get no signal. You do need a broadband internet connection and be able to get a gps signal indoors for them to work. The unit I bought in 2009 didn't have 3g data capabilites but Verizon at one time did sell them with 3g. Which in my opinion is useless as you need an internet connecdtion anyways for it to work so why not just use your wifi for data on the phone whcih is what I do. Yes its not 4g but its better than nothing at all which is what I had. And for me it's not just Verizon but Sprint and T-Mo too, It seems my house is a dead zone in my city for cell coverage.
I live in a fringe area for reception in my house so about 2 years ago I bought the Verizon extender ($100 at that time) and it got me from 1 bar to 3 bars. You do have to hook it up to your router and place a GPS locator in a nearby window for the unit to work. Whenever you connect to it, your phone will beep letting you know you are using the extender. Also, if you start a call in the house and then leave, at some distance from your house, like 200 feet, it will drop the call when it gets out of the extender's range.
But just two weeks ago I purchased a new NetGear router with extended range so I could get better WiFi reception throughout my house, and now the reception on my phone is at 5 bars and my reception is great--not a clue why. However, as pointed out, it doesn't seem to have any effect on 3G or 4G reception. I always use WiFi when I'm at home.
I have heard of people calling verizon to complain about the lack of service and Verizon basically giving them the extender. Might want to pursue that route in case it'll save you the 250.00

Yeah I read the same thing in the Inc thread a couple years ago and called and the rep said sorry we don't give them away for free, I couldn't even get a discount out of her. Since I already had one I decided not to keep calling back till I got a response I liked.
Verizon didn't even give us one for free, and we're a Verizon store. sigh.

In my home I get horrible 3g speeds. So bad I have to use wifi. Where I work (outside) I get terrible service and bad 3g speeds. I called Sprint about this issue and was told that area has good (not great) but good coverage. They told me to bring the phone in to have it looked at. I know its not the phone because this was the same with my Hero. I just want to know what my options are. I honestly feel like they should put a discount on my bill or give me unlimited roaming. This is a very bad problem. I drop calls like its going out of style and 3g isnt even an option. As for 4g, nothing at all. This has been going on for a while and Im really getting fed up. Any ideas?
We are all in the same boat.
As soon as we get a radio update.
Pardon my ignorance because I'm not sure how it works or what hardware you need, but the Sprint Airave signal booster is supposed to work great. A friend of mine works at Sprint and was telling me that evidently it plugs into your wireless router??? and goes for around $100 bucks but he swears that he's getting full bars throughout his entire house including the basement. Might at least help while at home...
Technically we all have free roaming. We roam for free on Verizon's network so in theory, you should never drop a call if you have either Sprint or Verizon service where you are. I know it worked that way for me on the Evo 4G and once I turned off all the roaming guard crap on the 3vo, it seems about as good as my old Evo 4G. So have you gone into Settings, Wireless, Mobile Network, and turned off the roaming notification sound and made sure you turn OFF all roaming guards?
Edit: BTW my neighbor has the Airave and it does give him 4 to 5 bars throughout his single-level 2850 sq/ft house. No problem keeping a call over there!

Called Sprint about this and the guy said Sprint charges a $36 activation fee for this type of unit. Also supposedly it does use your minutes on your plan, and you can pay an additional $10 a month to get unlimited minutes while connected to the Airave

I've heard of a bunch of people getting free airaves for having poor signal at home. Is it true that it only works for voice, though, not 3g? I can make and receive calls ok, but the 3g and 4g signals at my house are awful. And they have been for over a year. They were bad on my OG Evo. I just would like to be able to surf the net on my phone. Or, even, tether occasionally, if we loose power to the main network. Thanks.

i have had the airave since it was in existance. i was actually a tester for them before they went public. the one you linked it the old model 1X. the one you want is http://www.cnet.com/8301-17918_1-20014429-85.html
it is 3G capable. all and all a way better unit. if you call up explain your situation. for me what actually got me one many yrs ago was basically the truth. told them i am in a on cal field. i need my cell to ring when i am called no tgo to voicemail. if they could not provide me a way to fix it. i simply was going elsewhere. then i was offered to test a new device. ended up being the first airave. back then device was free and 4.99 a month which i was credited every month so was essentially free to me. now on the new one it is actually free per month 0 dollars. as long as you qualify.
its sprinnnnnt
Its definitely Sprint.. my company works with Sprint, and although they havn't said it was their problem, they are asking for all reports in our buildings of radio errors (network failure, data failure, can't make calls, text's come in with timestamp 4-5 minutes before the time they came in).
I personally thought it was the 3D, b/c I had a OG the day before and everything was fine, then I get to work and can't make calls with full signal. We have the sprint antanae's throughout our building, so something is up. It seems to only effect me at work though -- which is pleasantly located beneath the jet base flight path.

If you get the Airvana which is the second version of the Airave, you will get 3G as well. I've had it ever since I had my first EVO. I'm in a great coverage area but for some reason, I don't get any signal in my apartment or about a 1/2 block in either direction from my apartment.
The Airave works great. Whether or not you can get one free (normally $99 + $5 per month) depends on your situation and if you convince them its the right thing to do. I had to talk to 4 supervisors and a manager before they agreed to give it to me for free.
I got an Airave for free, just dialed 611 and talked to a rep, said I had to stand by a window or go outside to avoid dropping calls. Didn't have a problem getting one, the rep agreed that would solve the issue. Works wonders in the house.

Kinda sad that you need a airave or to go outside just to make a phone call. Did you tell sprint its 2011 ?
1. Yes there's a huge issue in terms of 3G speeds that have been going on since the Evo came out. There are more users on their network but they haven't expanded it. I took the issue so far that I was talking to people "From the Office of Dan Hesse" (Yes, I'm serious. I still have the voicemails and emails). It took them a while to go from "It might be your phone" to "OK, it's probably not your phone" to "The network in your area is crowded" to "Ok the network is overloaded everywhere". They promised me it would be fixed by May (this was going on since this past January). I used to get 1.5 Mbps 3G speeds and 15 (YES 15) Mbps 4G speeds, but now I'm lucky if I hit 500 Kbps on 3G and 4 Mbps on 4G.
And yes, they will send you an Airave. My internet bandwidth wasn't enough to support my Vonage VOIP modem and the Airave, so I put it aside. What they don't tell you is that if you don't use it for 3 months, you have to send it back or you owe them $200 (or $150, I forgot). You can always ask for it again later, but it's kind of grimy they don't tell you that. I got a surprise phone call about it. The good thing about the Airave is that after it's on your account, you can make it so that anyone can use it or you can limit it to certain phone numbers (like you and your family, for example). It does 5 calls at once tops. The BAD thing about it is that it will use your pool of minutes even if your calling a mobile number (free mobile to mobile doesn't apply).
And yes it does 3G. I HATE this about Sprint, but they're the cheapest carrier, which is why I put up with them. Also I just applied for a job with them; just waiting for the paperwork to go through on their end.
The alternative to the Airave is to download an app called Roam Control from the Market. Yeah it's like $4 but you don't need root to use it on the 3D. It lets you force roaming. But beware:
Sprint's roaming rule is this: If more than half the total minutes you use in a billing cycle are roaming minutes, for 3 months in a row, you'll get a warning letter in the mail. Do it again and they'll terminate you. Data I'm not sure, but being more expensive to them than voice, I'm gonna say don't go crazy. Also when you roam, even though it says 3G, you're on 1x.
I have thought about asking for an Airave, just havent gotten around to it. As for roaming, what people need to understand is that it really isnt free. When you roam mobile to mobile (which normally is free), eventually they start using your anytime minutes. When I had my Hero (rooted) I was able to set it to roam all the time, and I was on the phone a good 2 hours a day. Next thing I know, I had a $600 phone bill. I was told that if you use it excessively, they start to use your anytime minutes. I thought this was retarded since just about every call one makes, is to another mobile phone. I really just want them to give me unlimited roaming and Ill be set. Gonna give them a call eithher today or tomorrow and see what can be done. Airave will help me at home, but not on the road.
The Airave does have 3G but really, what's the point? It hooks to your internet router which probably has WiFi anyway so you might as well just connect via WiFi. We checked the 3G speeds on the Airave and got about 600/900. Connected to the same WiFi router, you get 17,000 and 2,000.

Just a tid-bit about roaming. Yes, it's free to roam, but I sometimes get stuck between a rock and a hard place with signal where it picks up the most faint Sprint signal, which is so weak that nothing works, but enough to not roam to VZ's network. Not much you can do about that if that happens to you.
What I just got, but haven't spent much time with yet is RoamControl (paid app in market). It allows you to force roaming and works without root on the Evo 3D. Though, I do want to say word of warning that Sprint can drop you from their service all together if you abuse the roaming. Not sure what the rules are about it, but word of warning.

The Airave broadcasts it's own CDMA signal, and connects to your internet connection to route calls. If you call Sprint and complain about coverage, they'll usually give you an Airave for free with free service. I've got one (Airvana w/3G), and it works excellent.

We get coverage in the house, but it's a low signal with the occasional dropped call. The airave assures that we don't have any dropped calls.

Well I changed for two reasons, one...Sprint sux..and two, they've been making a lot of changes ever since they got the iPhone and I didn't like them...since my contract was up, I jumped ship.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am nearly sure that there is 3G but you don't realize it because it shares the same 4G icon.

Some phones have an antenna port under the battery cover. I don't see one on the 3d, however I just got mine a few weeks ago and never really looked too hard.

I got a solution for you that you will love!
Contact sprint you need to prove to them that you do not have service...
I'm assuming your on sprint if not im sure other providers offer similar options
In my house I get no service sprint sent me a device called a airwave. It uses GPS satelites and an internet connection to host your own personal network for your home and outside. When you make a call it beeps 3 times showing your connected to this network. I get 3mbps down from 3g inside my own house its like wifi but more importantly I can talk on the phone without daggon calls dropping.
PM me if you have any questions would love to help you plus I'd like to reach that 10 post bull**** that xda imposes on people.
Otherwise there are antennas you can mount on your roof with signal repeaters may also be helpful. Go with the airwave if available for you!
EDIT Sorry didn't read your entire post... Idk if your living situation is permanent or not but.
You may be able to trick sprint if you tell them you still live in the US you can set your airwave up anywhere assuming you have a decent internet connection. **** you could be at the northpole on a satelite isp provider. O wait xda is saying I have to wait 5 minutes between posts edits... so before i smash my monitor im going to grab a chocolate milk

I would not recommend using a different PRL to force roaming as Sprint will cancel you in a heartbeat.
You can try something like this:

In not far from u (la grange) and att has improved ALOT in last few years. Still get dropped calls here and there but not like in the past. LTE is just wow and that's even with us in Chi town land not getting nowhere near the speeds other markets are. (10 mbs here and Dallas is at 40mbs) .
I've had VZW LTE on my galaxy tab and left them, was never on sprint but remember Nextel
As for the Note I don't think u will put it down much, battery is mehhh but given how much I use it I'm not complaining and there's always a charger near me. My mother lives in wiilowbrook and I have not had any issues in that area, Indian head park is weak in my experience.

How does the 4glte work inside your house?
Even though I am really close to Sprint wimax towers, i really get no 4g signal inside my house...
Do you drop calls inside your house, or out on the road?
I work from a home office, and using the phone part of the "package" is very important to me...
Thanks again!
I live in Burr Ridge. Last month I sold my Epic Touch 4g on Sprint for the Note.
Back in the day I'd had the iPhone 3g on AT&T and the service sucked, and I'd swore I'd never come back to AT&T, but I really wanted the Note. I've had no problems on the Note on AT&T...no dropped calls yet, and love the 4g speeds. The 3g speeds I get on AT&T are faster than any of the 4g Wimax speeds I used to get on Sprint.
Fyi here is a speediest from my house and I'm not on lte (it always says 4g in the statusbar, when you're in LTE you'll see a little "lte" in there as well)

when I used to have ATT a few years ago, I dropped calls ALWAYS in certain areas; rt 83 and 63rd street, 55 and 355 overpass, it was pretty pathetic to tell people on a call that you had to hang up, because you were going to lose the call..Plus, when I lived in Darien, I had to go out side to make or receive calls, and that was just stupid, especially in the winter!!
Glad to hear they have upgraded the network in the SW burbs...being an older guy, I actually use the phone for phone calls first and foremost..
and, as far as pricing, it appears that with 3 lines and the family plan, I will be paying about 30 dollars a month LESS with ATt than with sprint..hard to believe, but I confirmed the pricing yesterday...Sprints 10 dollar "premium" to own a smartphone now is just bull****..

I assume its just as easy to root this guy as it was the ET4g?
I checked the Dev section, and it doesn't seem there are as many custom Roms for this guy yet; it is a lot newer, but I wonder if things like CM9 will ever make their way to this phone...

Really want the giant screen of this phone, even though I really like my Epic Touch 4G; Obviously Sprint data speeds suck right now, but, not sure ATT would be that much better here in the SW 'burbs of Chicago..
Anyone out there that switched from the ET4G for this bad boy?
Are you glad you did, or not so glad?
Thanks so much for your input!

Yeah, rooting was just as easy. Also, there aren't may custom Roms, but Quality > Quantity.
DAGr8's Saurom rom is the only ROM I've flashed so far (gingerbread ROM) and I've had no complaints. There also has already been an ICS leak and various ROM's that I haven't tried yet and we know a real release will be coming.
Also, Cm9 is supposedly coming:

I have a split level house so I'm more in the lower level and I do have spots where I get weak call signal but still able to make receive calls. I too work out of my house (transfer office to cell when I leave) so I rely on my cell for work mainly. LTE reception is very good for me at home but I do use my wifi mainly when home. I have been with att since it was Ameritech and have had every iPhone since the first one but can safely say iPhones cell reception is crap compared to the note. My wife and daughter have iPhones and they still drop calls way way more then me. I never had the phone ur coming from so I can't attest to compare as I have been a sammy guy since the galaxy s and cannot see myself going to another brand.

I'm just hoping the service in my area of Chicago land has improved over what it was 3 years ago, when ATT was the absolute worst in my area..
I never drop calls with sprint when I am out of my house, and inside of it, I have been using an Air Rave device that they provided, so that isn't an issue at home.
Their 3G data is horrible, and, they claim its because they are currently upgrading their network; I gotta tell ya, it was just as bad when they weren't upgrading their network. Typical 3g speeds are 100-400kb, so the thought of getting 5-10 megs from ATT is very exciting...

If I were you, I would test the Note in and around your house for a few days to make sure the reception works well overall.
At times, the data jumps back-and-forth between HSPA and LTE depending on your whereabouts. But...I don't believe it really drains that much battery.
And I agree how Sprint's 3G is an absolute joke....I thought VZW 3G was horrid...but when I saw it on Sprint, it was unbelievably slow.
They continue to advertise that they're the only 1 of the big 4 providers who still offer "truly unlimited data"....but what's the point of having that if you're basically already throttled with dial-up speeds.
Only thing i hate about note is qualcom processor, thats only aspect I miss of s2

yeah, I plan on testing it immediately, but, the problem is of course, that once I port the number over, of their service sucks, its a pain to cancel with them and go back to Sprint; I love the Sammy E4GT, but, I am really switching carriers to get the Note, not Att...I just hope all the improvements in my area that I have heard/read about our true.
I mean, this is the Chicago land market, and I am certain ATT wants to come off as a good provider here..
But I really wanted this phone first and foremost..
Anyone having issues with signal? At work, my signal now tanks. Sometimes no data, or 2G, or just edge. I came from a G4 and it was ok at the same location.
Where did the signal history go? It use to show a graph under battery stats but I can't find it.
Yes and not to high jack your thread but I can't connect to my microcell either so I'm bummed low signal and can't use my microcell has me considering this phone a goodbye.
I find the signal am this phone to Be better than other phones.

I did have 2G at work when I was on my V10, but when on my Note 4, I had LTE signal, wonder if it is the bands used in the V10

Mine does fine in areas where I had excellent signal, but in areas where I was weaker, not poor, but just weaker, it's all downhill now. Ping tests taking 3000+ ms. Download speeds at .01mbps where it was 30mbps on the G4. Then it will go from 4g to nothing, the 2g, then E. Its all over the place.
I have noticed this as well at my house. Phone goes into emergency call mode all the time. Wifi calling always drops calls and says I'm going out of range sitting right next to the router. Had to turn it off cause it was worthless, but the signal is terrible as well. Only had problems in one back corner of the basement in my house with the Note 4. V10 I can lose signal at anytime anywhere in the house.

I bought a Netgear Nighthawk X8 to replace the T-Mobile router I'd be returning for the 4G LTE Cellspot but have heard there's issues. Wish I knew more about it and if it was going to be fixed. Was looking forward to having good signal at my home. T-Mobile has been saying 4G LTE has been coming for 2 years. Last reply was they are testing and will be on by end of this year, fingers crossed.
Definitely have issues with signal. Hoping it's a software fix. Afterall this id's the first phone with the Qualcomm Antenna

You may want to exchange for a new phone, see if you get the same results. Of those who responded, I believe you are the only Verizon customer, and of the others on this thread it looks like some T-Mobile users and one on AT&T. I'm going to get a V10 later this week, as long as I get a little better than my current phone signal wise I'll be happy.
Mine is actually on t-mobile. I'm okay with swapping it out but I don't want a refurb. I should go talk to my store this weekend and see what they'll do

My signal is way better at work than when I had my g3.
Mine is decent, not quite as good as my Nexus 6 but it isn't to far off
I'm going to swap mine this week and see if it gets better. Like someone said I don't want a refurbished and I hope they don't charge me for restocking fee. How would I know if it's a refurbished one they can't just give me one without telling me can they?

If ur within ur 14 days it will be a new one, not refurbed. Refurbs will say where the battery goes.
Got my V10 yesterday. At home I'm getting mostly 3G, sometimes 4G. I'll get one to three bars depending on the time of day, phase of the moon, and the amount of coffee I've had. This is about the same as I had with my BlackBerry for the last couple of years. The "city" here always has people fighting cell phone tower installations for years now. I've been told they are allowing Verizon to put some micro towers on some utility poles sometime "soon" because they have to comply with some sort of Federal law. I was hoping it would be better, but it's not worse either, plus my fingerprint reader works with a case......still have 12ish days to test things out.
I am getting much better speed with this phone then I did with my G3 on AT&T.
On my V10 now from AT&T. I also noticed both Cell and Wi-Fi connections are weaker than with my Samsung galaxy s5...it's weaker (about 65% where s5 was 90%+) but at least it maintains Wi-Fi connection unlike the S5. I especially notice it when streaming music. I do show on 4g LTE most of the time but never had more than 3/5 bars...I hope they can fix in an update.
I think mine is OK with LTE. You can force LTE or LTE/WCDMA
dial 277634#*#

I am using a VZW version with my TMO sim and this is the first VZW 2 TMO phone I have used (used a z3v, note 3 and note 4 from VZW on my tmo sim) that does not get 4gLTE. Its very rare that the 4gLTE lights up. Its usually at H or H+ which isnt too bad but id rather have LTE. Hopefully its a SW fix soon.
I`ve got poor reception too. I am on a carrier outside U.S.
Many drop call and ping time is long. Fail to send or receive data. Have to enter flight mode to fix the problem.
I exchanged my T-Mobile V10 a couple days ago and signal is better now. I think my other one has a bad radio.
