Ok..so I connected my Atrix to a cheap car charger without a surge protector, and I guess it conked off and gave my Atrix the full 12volt treatment instead of 5v. The phone went off and its not powering on. Whenever I connect it to a charger the only thing that comes on is the green LED and that too at a level.of brightness I've never seen before. If I put a charged battery in the phone, the backside of the phone heats up and gets hot iin a matter of minutes. I took the phone to my local phone repair Guy and he told me that it's most probably the power IC that has blown up ...but can't be replaced individually coz it's sealed to the motherboard..so I will have to replace the whole motherboard. Is this true? Because I've seen Ads on the internet for standalone Atrix Power ICs. Doesnt make sense to replace the whole motherboard ..
I'd rather buy a new phone instead. Can someone suggest what to do?

I think your service guy is most likely right and whatever ads you might have seen are false advertisement. Sorry.

Well OK, those indeed seem to be genuine. But good luck replacing that on the motherboard. It's too tricky and risky and a lot of service centers won't even bother, since they can't charge enough for the effort to be worth it. This is also the biggest reason why the most common solution to this is simply replacing the entire board.

You'll also never solder a BGA device by hand. It's a machine fit when the rest of the surface mount parts are fitted.
You can solder BGA. You need a reflow station, or access to one.

Hello.
My bootloader is apparently corrupted after an Odin restore attempt and from what I've read Riff Box is my only salvation. I tried the button combos, the 301K JIG and my phone is as bricked as a... Well, brick.
Are there any alternatives to riff box? Anything I can cook up on my own to make a dead Vibrant revive?
Thanks!
Try sending it back to TMO or Samsung if you can with your warranty.
If you can't...
hmm.. no.. a JIG wouldn't work...
nope sorry dunno any.
Riff box is the only way. I want to have one too so that I won't have to worry about hard bricking my phone.

I think you can order it. it would be good if someone would order one then we can just send it to him if we are hard bricked. Of course we'll pay him.

How much would it cost? if it was a reasonable price, i'd buy it, if its too expensive, i can't.
I think it's $150.

YEAH.. i'm not buying it, i don't brick my phone every hour lol.
lol, riff box will handy foe me because I'll be using vibrant for a very long time.
Well...
From what I've read and my experience, hard bricks are pretty rare. This happened because I tried to do too many things one after the other without enough care, and the guy who owns one in my country is doing the fix for about US$30. In their webpage you can see a list of Riff Box owners all around the world, look out for someone close to you.
I have a RIFF Box being built and sent to me as we speak, but my only problem is I have no test phones to practice on yet. My dedicated JTAG computer sits right next to my JIG manufacturing equipment just waiting for the day I have all the hardware needed. Here's to hoping I can officially offer this service soon. My fingers are crossed....
P.S. Im located in NM, pretty darn close to the center of the USA, so maybe an ideal location for shipping out via USPS Priority?
I was in the same situation. Your only option is a RIFF Box JTAG.
I send my phone to this ebay seller and he repair my phone the same day and the same day he ship me back my phone.

re: your signature. "Did you know every time you make a troll comment an android phone is activated?"
Awwwww muffin, try flashing it with gasoline and a match. Or crumble the T959D board into tiny little pieces after spending 12hrs with QPST (and ODIN trying to start connection then hanging). I finally lost my temper due to multiple stressors.
(oh and bollocks to grammar) Some were due to the dang buttons can't be found and farting about with a couple of screwdriver tips to hold down one button while at the same time reinserting the battery and holding power with a pen. Oh and I didn't have the back on the phone (no screws) so the mobo periodically flips off its base. Anywho, the phone had to die it has plagued me since last summer. I won't do the same with the SGH-I727R I have. And ironically the screen assembly I can resell. Ironically the mobo is worth next to nothing compared to the price of the screen assembly. Which is one reason I finally decided to have the satisfaction of tearing the skin from my fingers while twisting and snapping the board into 4 pieces which I shall bury at four corners of the city I live in lest its corpse finds its way back to me and bricks my other devices.
Oh and in case you are wondering. Yes!!! it was so satisfying and totally worth the total loss. (actually I need one button switch and the USB port for other damaged devices I am repairing.
I am going to get me a jtag if it's the last thing I do. Or make my own from an ATMEGA and whatever breakouts I need for it to work.
Just realize JTAG is hard. Real hard. As far as micro soldering and understanding circuits and crap like that. Watch a few videos before you thing of getting into it just so you can see how complicated the process is. It seems real sketchy for me.

Anyone happen to know where I can source one of these? Aside from buying a bricked phone and swapping them... I can't seem to find any online, and yes I've tried searching. My i777 took a 4 foot drop and landed screen side down on tile floor (and I use the Neo Hybrid case)... glass didn't break but LCD panel doesn't illuminate/show anything and it seems the assembly is 'all in one' and I can't get the LCD panel separately.

well, you can find most parts at globaldirectparts.com but to my knowledge it's out of stock

EDIT: since it's still 1 year you can send it to Samsung to replace it. same price or less and better servicing

I had sensitive information stored on the internal memory, but I was able to blindly tap through and mount the phone on my pc and grab it off - so I'm going to take the lazy approach and see if they'll fix it. It's an easy fix, but if they'll fix it for cheaper then I may as well send it to them.
Perfect. Been needing a screen for months.
wsup guys. my USB charger just broke for my Rezound. I was wondering if there was any sort of warranty on those that Verizon (or Amazon, since I bought the phone through them) would honor?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
good lord, what in the hell did you do to that poor thing? lol
That looks like physical damage to me and would not be covered anyway.
I would take this one as a loss and just buy a new one. They are cheap.
Should be a year. Depending on who you talk to... Amazon might have to take care of it, but when I talked to Verizon about Amazon and issues like this, they always told me to just go into the store and have it replaced. The warranty on it is 1 year, just like your phone, battery and memory card.
Note that if you purchase a separate charger, you're bound by that warranty, though usually a year, you might have to mail it to someone.
Just tell them... as long as its the truth... I tried to pull the cable out of the phone, and the connector stayed lodged inside the phone's USB connector.
It's a cable, and costs them nothing to have them made. My company sells cables similar to this for $16 and they cost us a buck to have made. The markup is ridiculous.
They are pretty cheap or any Blackberry Charger or other Droid Charger works. They prob wont warranty that.

Hey all...some questions
My phone is not charging normally at all. Even when it says 100% charged, as soon as I disconnect the charger it drops down to less than 50%. Sometimes it will stay plugged in all day and barely gain any power. New battery did not help. ATT said they would replace, however when I went to the store he said the port is corroded indicating water damage. I never dropped it in water so it must have been some sort of moisture. You can definitely see a little rust in there. Tried to clean with toothbrush an alcohol did not really help. ATT on the phone said they will send me a new one but I am worried after they get mine back they will try and bang me for water damage. Any advice? Can i clean the port any other way? I saw in the i9100 forum people have changed the usb port with a part from ebay. I found the part but not sure if I can use it with the ATT version.
Flex Cable with Charge Port for Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100
Has anyone tried? Ideally I would just love to get my replacement phone and send this back and hopefully they don't bother me. I already totally flashed back to stock and used mobile odin to make sure there is no trace of custom roms. This is frustrating. I keep my phone safe but somehow something must have caused the port to collect some kind of rust.
Thanks for any advice

Any way to easily fix this, or do I have to go the insurance route? Anyone had good luck with insurance?
Thanks
