So my phone fell...long story short the glass digitizer needs to be replaced. So I ordered a new one along with some 2mm adhesive. I have the right screw drivers and torx drivers so I am not worried about that. I just don't have the right prying tools. Is there anything else I may be able to use to carefully pry the screen from the adhesive throughout the process?
Has anyone every replaced the glass here?
Input would be greatly appreciated!

I am looking for some help/instructions as to how to do this. Has any one done this before? I am wondering if this would be easy or difficult.
Thanks in advance.

Here is information how to disassemble StarTrek http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313066
Replacing is very easy, You only need to unscrew front cover. Few screws and lift front cover(first the plastic part, then more screws and metal part), unscrew screen and disconnect it. The front metal part sometimes doesn't lift but You'll figure out how to do it. And make sure you clean everything because dust always gets on the screens. Good luck.
Hi Kucyk,
Thank you for the link and explaining how to do it. This is exactly what I need. I appreciate it.
Thanks,
JSenthil
Hi All, I'm one of the few who faced the problem where one side of the screen is slightly lifted on the edge. It doesn't cause any functional problems, but the springy feel is annoying. It's probably the adhesive on the left acting up and not sticking well. Press the screen down, and it will uplift within minutes. Tried the hot air method to melt the glue slightly, but no use.
So I probably want to replace the adhesive, and began looking for teardown guides.
None, however, really shows if the Gorilla glass can be pried off from the top ,leaving the rear un-dismantled. The flex cable should goes to the mainboard at the back, but I don't need to disconnect that for this purpose. I'm also not sure if I should pry the top or bottom.
If anyone has done it before, kindly share your experience here.
Thanks
Full replacement seems like the best idea.

oh. Why so? Seems like an overkill proposal...
I have the same exact dilemma. I see this is an old post, but maybe someone else can chime in. I really don't want to dismantle an otherwise working phone just to reapply adhesive. I like the phone but this seems like a really poor design.
Anyway, if anyone knows of a way I can reapply the adhesive without total dis-assembly I'd love to hear it!

sorry you cant, im replacing the digitizer for mine and u cant take off the glass without ripping off the flex cable for the digitizer.
i suppose u can heat up the adhesive and carefully open it alittle bit and put some glue on that corner. i say glue because you probably wont have room to put double sided tape and remove the second backing without tearing the flex cable for the digitizer.
So i dropped my phone and looks like i need a new digitizer. I have tear down the phone and the last thing i need to do is remove the digitizer but i have no idea on how to do it. Does anyone have any tips or links that show you how to remove it? I've seen this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8u5Wa3Odak but it doesn't show how to remove the digitizer. Any help would be really appreciated

At the end it shows you to heat up the digitizer to losen the adhesive that is holding it in place all around the edge. After that, slowly pry around. Do it really slowly though and let it work itself off, and don't use a sharp object because it will damage the sensitivity of the digitizer. Really patience is key. Don't rush it like I tried to the first time also be careful of the lcd underneath.
Just to reiterate what was already said, pry very gently, don't stick whatever pry tool you are using too far into the device, the LCD below will crack so easily. I did it when I did mine. Have patience, take a lot of time slowly working it off the adhesive little bit by little bit. There isn't any magic trick to this, it takes a lot of time and practice.
Hi,
I damaged my LCD screen but not the glass digitizer. I ordered a replacement LCD screen and it has arrived.
I have seen several guides to replacing the digitizer on the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but none on replacing the screen. I don't want to just assume that the process is the same.
My biggest concern is for the digitizer itself. These guides mostly recommend using a heat gun to loosen the glue between the digitizer and the LCD screen. My question is whether or not the heat from the heat gun is a threat to the function of the digitizer?
TLDR: Is it safe to use a heat gun on a working digitizer to replace a broken LCD screen?
Please pardon this bump (6 days later).
You broke the LCD behind the digitizer, but the digitizer is still fine ??
most of time, people will break the digitizer (which is in front)
I already did the digitizer repair (in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385958 )
to separate the digitizer from the LCD, you may need a heat gun but you can do it without, you just need to get a good knife and do it very slowly. for the next part I can't help you...

Yup! I fell asleep on the couch with the tab on my lap, I went to get up in the morning, started getting up, put my foot down and it was leaning at an angle on the floor and against the couch. I felt it there and once I realized what it was I took the weight off... just damaged the corner of the lcd screen, but the digitizer is perfectly fine, not cracked and fully responsive even where the liquid bleeds in the corner of the screen.

I hope somebody here might have the experience or even knowledge of whether the digitizer can withstand the heat from a heat gun without harm; I'd prefer not to go the knife route if I can avoid it.
Well I didn't get any answers here, so I bit the bullet and went ahead and did the LCD screen replacement.
It went fine, my Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now perfectly functional again.
A: When used to gently heat the housing side of the display assembly, the heat gun did not damage the digitizer.
If I could re-do it I would keep the following in mind:
- Peel off the green antistatic tape from the flex cables entirely because they are very sticky and difficult to pull off of the end of the flex cable when it's detached from its connector.
- Use proper tools; while guitar picks were helpful, I had to use bathroom tweezers for some bits and that could have been a disaster.
- While working the glue, be more careful not to get any glue on the inside face of the digitizer. It won't come off easily, and I didn't want to risk working it or using any type of solution.

Sorry, I didn't take any photos. Besides it was a bit of a kludge job, I was very careless with certain parts of the process, and wound up with an extra screw I couldn't find a hole for. I definitely wouldn't recommend my work to anybody else.
There are a couple of videos from YouTube that were immensely helpful:

Not possible?!
Hello,
Just for i have tried on a discarded set of lcd/digitizer and it is not possible.
Reason being that the digitizer is "glued" with a thin layer of silicone to the lcd's polarization glass. At the first attempt, armed with a heatgun the silicone got stuck to the razorblade. Now for the second attempt I left the assembled unit in the freezer to see if the silicone will release its grip on the polarization glass a bit easier. And that didn't work either

I take it you are referring to the separation of the LCD from the digitizer?
If so, do you have a link to a guide? Got a smashed digitizer but perfectly working LCD. Not keen on sending to Sony as they'll probably want to charge £200 to replace the full LCD/digitizer set and I can get a new digitizer for £46 off eBay.
