+1. Defect maybe?

Same here

I have the same issue, I hear its more prominent on blacks. Not a defect, just a design oversight i think.

Have a black and noticed it too. There is a bit of movement up top above the gorilla glass. I'm still in my 14 day window. Should I exchange it for another? The phone has locked up on me a couple of times too and the speakers make a loud twitch noise every so often when i'm dialing.

That sounds racist. LOL. Anyways, I didn't notice it at first but I figured out what OP was talking about. There's just a little give to it. Not sure if it's worth trying to open it up and figure out what's going on though

I looked at the Microsoft Store. It seems like the plastic isn't perfectly tight around the screen edges. And because that part of the plastic is so thin to begin with (it's got only 3 mm from the screen to the edge, and then 2 mm from the edge to the sim card cutout), it'll have a bit of flex. It's amazing how noticeable a quarter of a millimetre of yield can make...
Hopefully this gets sorted out. I don't know if Nokia would consider this a defect, but they should fix it.

I exchanged mine. Second one has no defect.

You can't rightly say that all 920's have it. I have 2 and have 0 issues with either aside from missing xbl games. On a side note though, I have seen it occur on two of the glossy ones. (I have a cyan and a black) I don't think glossy is quite as well put together. I squeezed the screen on a yellow and it distinctly popped into place.

Well, you can, because this issue is caused by a design fault. It's just a matter of time, until this will reach you too.
All devices I know have this issue und I already wrote a mail to the nokia technical service.

Mine too. Annoyed.
My first one had a lot of dust in front of the sensor in about a weeks time, started noticing it the third day. Had to return it for an earpiece issue, had the second one for a little over a week now and not a speck under there. Perhaps someday but not near as quick as the first.

Nokia care is your best bet mate..
my solution of the dust-gate
So if we are able to identify the reason of the problem then we can do find the solution.
We know that the dust comes from 3.5 jack socket. Then just put the 3.5 jack stopper into the jack socket and that's it. No any dust in you phone!
You can find it on ebay.

Anti-dust fix
YES! IT WORKS! Today I tested the rubber stopper on my Lumia 920. Rubber stopper works fine and it doesn't silence the earpiece, BUT first of all, you should cut off two-thirds of the stopper (be careful not to loose the piece when you cut it off because it is so small) and plug-in only the hat + about 5mm of the base with the ring on it. If you cut off the ring the stopper wont be properly hold in the socket. Hope you can see it on the image. Hat+base+ring
This happened to my red glossy Lumia 920 on ATT, but ATT replaced it under warranty. I got a black matte one, so we'll see if it has the same problem. But you guys should all get it replaced under warranty. At least that will help Nokia realize this is a widespread issue
I have a Black ATT Lumia 920 and I had to send mine into Nokia Care US to get it fixed under warranty. My wife also has a glossy white one and I got a dust stopper in hers (had to cut it short because it would trip the headphone sensor otherwise) and hers is still great.
so where is the dust getting in from? The headphone jack or the earpiece?

There is a very little gap between the screen and the frame above the Nokia logo.
Blowing air inside the device will only make things worse.
Dear fellows,
I've got dust twice. I bought my phone in 11-2012 and sent it in in 03-2013. I got a brand new one four days later and have now dust again within two weeks of use.
Nokia seems to be still struggling with this issue.

The prox sensor is sealed seperatly from the FFC which is in a U shaped cut-out, with the opening at the top which lets the dust in. The 1308 firmware update fixed similar issues for me.
I specifically had issues with the prox sensor re-activating the screen. It would always work to turn the screen off during a call, but hardly work when trying to switch to speaker phone, etc during a call. I could never hang up on anyone I had to wait for them to end the call. Sometimes hitting the power button a few times would bring the screen on. After the latest update it seems to be working much better for me, and I have seen a few others say the same thing.
If you have not already you can use navifirm to update (but it will wipe your phone) if your FW is available, or wait for an OTA update which will not wipe your phone. If you are not on ATT in the US it might take a little before you get the update OTA.

I''ve also never seen one with dust under the screen. It implies perhaps something isn't bonded correctly on the exterior. Which also would explain the buzzing when it vibrates

I'm 100% sure the weird vibrating is coming from the sim card slot/tray within the phone. It's some sort of locking mechanism, seems normal though.
Dust under screen - never heard of it before on 1x+.
Capacitive backlight bleed - mine has it too but it's hardly noticeable and you'll see it only in very very dark areas. Took me a week to realize my phone has it.
Sim tray buzzing noise - this is probably related - when shaking my phone in a certain way, I hear very faint rattling.
I think the dust under screen alone is enough to get you motivated to have the phone replaced. The other two issues, I personally can live with it.

The thing is the bleed is on the outside of the capacutive buttons. In between the screen seal I can see light, I think it'd the curvature of the glass. Do all do this?

Well since I have a return period at AT&T I think I'm just going to return it.
There are three specks of dust (medium sized) under the screen, not a big deal but that's annoying.
There's a gap that collects dust between the SEAL and the GLASS DISPLAY. Not just the edge, it makes contact with the display and is loose, the seal is not connected properly.
There is a rattling when phone vibrates which is the sim card tray I believe.
And finally that capacitive backlight button bleed, annoys the heck outta me.
So I'll be returning it tomorrow to get a replacement. Wish me luck guys.
Quick update, went and exchanged and got home, and noticed the vibration was fixed, dust was fine but guess what!? There's still a gap in the seal, and I know it's a gap because when I push the whole screen down against the rubber seal the light disappears! Just great HTC, guess I'm going back for my third tomorrow!

Anybody else have this light bleed or is this just luck of the draw?
Just to give this thread some closure. I walked into the AT&T store told the guy about this and he kind of acted like the whole ordeal was stupid, replied with I can't see it and since it's your second repair you must go through the AT&T global store and call this number yadda yadda. I didn't want to be without a phone and was afraid of the same problem once again. So I traded the HTC One X+ in for the SGS3. So long story short, this thing has an amazing build quality and surprisingly feels much sturdier than the One X+. The only thing it lacks is where the processor is and how fast it goes. Thanks though guys, sorry for leaving you! Hope all goes well and HTC gets all of these problems sorted out!
Well since you have the S3 make sure to try Task&ktoons AOKP rom. Smooth as butter its all I ever ran on my s2 and s3
Sorry to hear about your issues though

Check your Lumia 920 for unibody defect

Hi all, I found a defect on my Lumia 920's unibody casing. the top bezel is somewhat loose and it squeaks when the phone is cold and clicks when the phone is warm. I find it very annoying because I like to grab the phone from the top and bottom. here's a video of what I'm talking about:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vevk0LIlLPo
I already replaced my phone at my Rogers store... you might want to check yours and replace if necessary. I feel the clicking will get ALOT worse in the summer when the weather is hot.

funny you mentioned this, i only just noticed the exact same thing about a week ago....
I had a similar issue with the unibody also.
It make noises when I press between the power and camera button.
I took the phone back to the Nokia Care and after more than a week I went there to have him back but it had the same issue. So I give it back one more time and I'm still waiting....

also when did you guys buy your phones? build week?
I'm planning on getting a yellow unibody to switch out my black one.. but first I have to guarantee the yellow shell won't make those noises...
thanks for the replies!
I have a very slight click near the top of the phone (but not constantly) and that's it. I have the white version. I won't bother changing it because until I read this thread I can't say I even noticed it.
I got a black one on launch and its quiet. No creaks, squeaks or clicks.

I have this effect at right side at the middle and at the top. Won't bother with replacements until it will be getting worse/other defects will appear.
To me it is a minor thing. Also no warranty that new one won't start to click after time.
If you put it in a protector like one should with a 600 dollar phone you won't ever even notice this issue. Plus other than an annoyance it has no affect on the phones function.
mine too
I have a black hong kong version. There's a creak/squeak at the middle left (no button) side. which is little disappointing to me when it's the most expensive phone I bought and build quality was very well reviewed.
Mine does this if I press in the middle of the bottom half of the back. Strange thing is it doesn't always do it, seems a fairly random issue.

I have a red Lumia 920 and I am on my 4th unit because each previous phone has had creaking issues on the body. Now, these haven't been the only issues I have suffered but the others are irrelevant to this thread. It does annoy me. I cringe whenever I picked up the previous phones because of the creaking it would make. It makes the phone feel cheap, and quite frankly it shouldn't and thankfully Nokia agree.
I have had my current phone for a day now and so far no problems have developed so I am hoping for the best.
mine was fine until I dropped it twice in the same day (within about 10 minutes of each other) once on concrete, then for some reason decided to drop it again and it bounced off 3 different objects, since then you can hear a 'click' if I press down on the top of the phone in the centre near the front.
bit miffed as I have a scuffed corner now on an otherwise mint phone, have had it for a good few months tho so the novelty of how shiny and nice it looks has almost worn off
I have the white one, a friend of mine has the black one and has no issues with creaking/clicking on the case, but then he has had a silicon case for it since the day he had it, maybe that's helped?
Well, I have had the phone for 5 days and the squeaking/clicking appeared yesterday. I realized that a part of the body feels "hollow" inside so I proceed to disassembly the unit.
When I take out the cover noticed that in fact there was empty space between the case and the board. I put in some supplement (I had to try with several ones until I found the piece that let me close the phone with no extra effort or excessive pressure). Once I get it right, put the parts toghether again and the squeaking/clicking was gone. Also it doesn't feel hollow like before.
I think is a problem with the material expanding and contracting under different temperatures and because it doesn't have a true anchor to the sides (it goes in and out very easy, no extra seals on the sides). Pretty nasty thing for a High-End device.
PS: My carrier (where I bought the phone) said that it was "normal" and refused to replace the unit. Normal my ass!
Aside from that I'm very much inlove with the 920 and WP8.

I hope your supplement is a material that does not generate static electricity. Otherwise your fix may damage the phone beyond repair. Things like paper, cardboard, plastics like bag material that is not treated, cloth, and many others all generate static when in contact with other non conductors like the inside of the phone body. Just a warning from an RMA tech who has seen ESD damage from bad fixes and the customer stuck with a voided warranty.

Yeah, it was non-conductive material. I sort of a tech guy so I know a little about that. I used something that I commonly use as aislant and vibration cancelling in my PC mods. But thanks very much for the warning anyway. :good:
Following the case, after keep ranting about that flaw with my carrier (and phone vendor) I'm with my second unit now, also yellow. I noticed that the power/lock button is lower that the volume and camera buttons but its not a problem (it is lower compared with the firt unit, if this one was my first surely I was going to think that this was the original design).
I've been looking like a paranoid squizo for other defects but so far, so good.
Pretty lame for a high-end phone and a WP8 flagship. Even if its just a batch. Still,, I freaking love the OS.

Problems with Xperia z2

So far I have see those problems and those make me think twice before buy it.
1- getting too hot easily. Not only when recording 4k videos some users find it getting too hot while browsing Internet. That's not acceptable. I don't want it to be blown off in my hand.
2- screen is dim. I thought that's since I watch the videos on YouTube. Other phones such as samsung s5 and HTC One m8 has got a lot brighter screen. If it is sunny you can see your phone screen that's not good for people especially in hot countries.
3- gap issues. I don't know if this is a big issue but still shouldn't be like that.
4- speakers. So people are happy some people are not. Some people are having issue with income calls they say it's not loud enough and only one speaker works.
Those are so far I can remember/told by people here. Maybe that's why it's been delayed for release who knows.
Do you guys have any other issues with the phone? Please let us know £550 for pay as you go phone is a lot of money I don't wanna regret after I buy it.

1..... All phones these days get warm when in use, id be more concerned if it wasnt heating up, as for the 4k recording it doesnt bother me too much, its not a feature ill be using anytime soon and im assuming the related software can be fine tuned and updated by sony so it doesnt strain the processor as much
2......Im in great britain so not the sunniest place but weather was quite bright over easter weekend and i had no issues seeing the screen outside
3......As long as its not affecting the water resistance, who cares. If in doubt either treat it like any other phone near water or get it tested by sony
4......Speakers im 50/50 on.... the sound is crisp and clear, just not as loud as other phones. The sound is supposed to be mono on an incoming call, it also cuts to one speaker on my blutooth speakers and on my galaxy if i have headphones in and recieve a call the right earphone cuts out

yep id definately be concerned if it didnt heat up while im using it, just about every electrical item i own heats up when in use, if it doesnt then its probably not working properly.......
I dont mind gaps...... as long as they dont affect the waterproofing, my z2 appears to have a couple of (extremely small, less than 1mm) gaps, but im not about hide it away in shame or demand an exchange for a cosmetically perfect handset.......... unless of course they cause the phone to die a watery death, but i doubt that
and finally i'll stick with my overall opinion of the speakers, but as for the one speaker dropping out ignore anything i said, i was mistaking what you was on about with something else.... my bad lol
I have just received my z2 this morning - opened the box and found the phones back glass panel is raised above the edge of the phone in one corner by 1mm or so.. from the Power button to the bottom corner.
It spoils the whole feel of the phone as its easy to catch the glass.. I imagine its going to get damaged quickly
So I now have to contact company I got it from to arrange a swap, or send it off to Sony.. probably at my own expense.
Premium phone and price with not so premium build quality.. This should never have passed Quality Control.

This should never have passed Quality Control.

give it back to place you bought. do not give a single penny for returning it. its not your fault and it is not supposed to come out from your pocket. do not get it fixed get a brand new one.
faulty phones make me think again why the z2 is postponed so many weeks ahead. there is definitely something wrong with this phone in one point. overheating, out of shape design, gaps on the top of the device, speakers etc.

Do you think they would have solved all these problems by the start of May (which is when most people get their phone)? If not then all these delays would have been a complete waste of time...

Start of may is not guaranteed for release. Some companies giving date for 24th of may. Hope everybody will be happy at the end of the day but Sony is not doing well so far. Postpone is a really bad start and faulty phones comes up after waiting months or weeks is more disappointing. If you are not ready for launch do not announce your phone.

I cannot get a decent close up using my OneX..
I'll hunt out my normal camera and see if I can get a decent close up.

You can see the glass panel is raised above the aluminium frame.

Damn, that's really poor workmanship. Let's hope your replacement is perfect and you don't need to wait too long

Oh man there are a lot more problems than I thought. People complaning to Sony directly instead of telling people here . I think Im right with my opinion never buy a newly released phone there are always problems at some point. Wait a month or so and get them after. My wife bought newly s4 when it was out the phone was getting far too hot she was scared to use it cos it might blow off on her hand. we complained and got a brand new one which is okay. All my old iphones were the same some had sound problem some had glass problem.
It seems that Sony were in so much of a rush to assemble the phones to get them 'out there' that quality control suffered big time.
Am gonna make sure that mine is perfect before keeping it even if it means returning it time after time.
Am hoping all of these build issues are solved when its officially released in May

LG G5 hollow sound when tapping the middle of the screen

Hey. Just got my new LG G5, but I've noticed something weird. Namely, when I tap the middle of my screen it sounds and feels a bit different, like either the screen was raised there or there was nothing beneath it. I'm wondering if I'm the only one experiencing it.
EDIT: The best test is to repeatedly start tapping it in the middle in quiet surroundings and then move to edges and say if you can hear and feel the difference.
UPDATE: LG's support response is that if the touchscreen works properly there is no basis for RMA.
Bump.
Is there a screen protector on it? If not definitely not normal. I'd ship that to LG asap. I am not experience this issue and haven't heard of it from others.
Side note man I feel bad for a lot of you users. I don't got any of these issues so many of yall have. LG G6 will definitely wait few months before I get it. Had a few lower-mid range LG phones. A lot of these issues seem to carry over to LG G5. Which is unacceptable for a flagship device.

No screen protector, but maybe it's because of the modular build? It makes sense that it wouldn't sound so hollow near the edges, since the phone has something underneath it there, whereas beneath the middle of the screen there's only a battery, which is removable, so it might not be just built too well. I suppose that I should ask LG themselves about it. Anyway, thanks for your comment.

Yeah I was thinking that too. I am not noticing this issue. Maybe other's could give feedback for him? My sense of touch not the best lol. LG might be of help. I do notice that on a lot of threads lol. Maybe 3-5 comments and 100+ views.

I have the same problem but the noise is slightly different but not too different unless you're trying hard to hear it. How severe is this problem for you?

You may want to consider the fact that other people viewing this thread have no such issue with their handset and have no input to give? The obvious solution would be to send it back to LG if you are unhappy with it...or..live with it?
It does not appear to be an issue with the actual functioning of the handset though..
My G5 actually makes some strange noise when you shake it. Kind of like something went loose.
But it only happens when one specific battery unit is inserted.
I didn't measure the the thickness but I assume it's related the little difference in thickness of these batteries I have.
Hope this might help.

If they don't have the issue then they can simply vote "no" in the poll.

That would make sense. They might have left some space there in case the battery is thicker, so that it wouldn't get stuck.

If I'm in quite surroundings I can clearly hear the difference. I don't notice it that much when I'm in a busy place.
