I just rooted my Milestone X2 and downloaded ROM manager. I want to backup my phone before I start installing ROMs so that I don't break it by accident. However, when I select "reboot in recovery mode" my phone reboots but there's a triangle warning symbol with a droid guy standing next to it. If I press the volume button I can reboot the phone but I can't get to recovery mode.
Help please?
ROM manager doesn't work for the X2. You need tenfars custom BSR.

If you look in the general section as well as the development section of this forum, you will find all the tutorials and files you need. They are "stickied" so they show up as the first topics in that section. Here is one for backing up your ROM which includes the recovery you need for this device.

A factory reset (clearing data) will do the trick. There are likely other ways as well.

Of course, it's possible. But, you have a little risk.
Follow the below:
(Using the rootexplorer)
1) First, delete file /system/bin/mot_boot_mode
2) Rename /system/bin/mot_boot_mode.bin to /system/bin/mot_boot_mode (Very important)
3) Delete file /system/etc/razr_cwm_boot.cfg
4) Last, delete file /data/.recovery_mode
5) reboot
Recovery does not boot anymore. You must be using the RazrBootstrap app.
Good Luck with Razr!
i dont see any razrbootstrap.apk?

this = cyanogenmods for razr?
So how does this differ from Razr bootstrap recovery? Doesn't this just do the same thing? And, does this get us closer to a full sbf if we need to get back to full stock? as I understand it, there is not recovery file yet?
I'm in a Verizon Razr btw.

This will automatically boot you into recovery.
For example, if you flash a theme (or anything that doesn't format data) and something go wrong and you are stuck in a bootloop, you can volume down + power to reset in recovery so you can restore your backup or whatever.

Understood, so still no recovery files, but keeps you from getting stuck in a boot loop or recovering from one. Thanks for clarifying!.

I had rom manager from clockwork mod and selected download clockwork mod recovery (I wanted to flash a custom rom, and my phone was already rooted). This instantly booted me into clockwork recovery and I can't get back to a normal reboot. If I select reboot, it just gives me the clockwork symbol for a while and then goes back into recovery. If I pull the battery out and reboot it goes straight to recovery. No matter what I do I just get the clockwork symbol with the orange arrow and the hat and nothing happens i just get put back into recovery. I could really use some help and would appreciate some suggestions. If I need new odin/kernel/rom file or whatever please give me a link... I'm not sure where to get them now that megaupload is down...
Thanks for any help guys

This explains your issue, search for entropys unbrick thread and follow it, should fix your issue. Don't install ROM manager.

Unbelievable.
Did you try using home button to select or was that just codeworkx kernel that did that?
..anyway.

Are you pressing the power button or the home key? If your pressing the power button it would bring you to the cwm symbol that your saying happened. If that doesn't work go to the stickies on the devolvpment section for our phone and download the return to Stock package. Then try to flash that. You should be able to play around with the mounts on cwm to get your computer to recognize it, then flash the return to Stock package. In the future, never use rom manager, it screws up our phone.
Hope this helps.

Not really.
I'm rooted, but I don't know how to install a ROM. Please help!

If you search the forums you will find many guides to this. Best thing is to find the ROM you want and look at their instructions.
Download the BSR (boot strap recovery) and then download which ROM you want. Then install the BSR and go into the app and press Install Recovery, then press Recovery Mode after you plugged your phone into the wall. It will shut down then boot back up into BSR and use the volume rocker on the side if the phone to go down the list until you get to Install zip from SD card and use power button on top to select and then select chose file from SD card and navigate to where you have the ROM you downloaded. Then select it. It will ask are you sure, select yes. Also before you install zip, in the BSR, select wipe data/factory reset and also select wipe cache. Then select reboot system now and there you go! It will boot up to the ROM you just installed!

Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110389
In there, choose a ROM you would like. In each ROM's thread, they give instructions on how to install them. Check the droid X2 development forum for guides and multiple how-tos.
Hope that helps
Yes that's a quick, generalized guide to installing a ROM, but some roms may be different, such as CM7. bfmetcalf said it best though. Find the ROM you want and follow their instructions. Sometimes people post videos on Youtube also.
Hi all,
I followed all the instructions and search the web and successfully unlock the bootloader and root the phone. I also use fastboot to install CWM but for some reason, every time I go to Android Recovery, it went into Android system recovery <3e> and not CWM. I tried flashing the CWM through the link provided in "[Answers] Solutions to Common Problems - Look Here Before Posting in Q&A", both CWM 5.0.2.0 and CWM touch recovery 5.8.1.8 and it still goes to Android system recovery <3e>.
I also tried using ROM manager to flash CWM and yest again it goes back to Android system recovery <3e>. I got the exclamation mark with triangle and the android logo when I select Android Recovery, and just hit volume up and down the same time to get into Android system recovery <3e>.
Am I missing something? Has anyone encounter this issue and can shed a light on my problem? Thank you in advance for reading my post and thank you XDA for the wealth of information.
I had the same problem. After some searching I found the following (I think here on XDA):
" There's a file in /system/etc/ called install_recovery.sh that may need to be deleted for the custom recovery to stick. You need root to remove it."
I did this...actually just renamed it, re- flashed CWM and was good to go. Hope this helps

THANK YOU sooo much for the tip! :good:
It works and I have the wonderful CWM now. Thank you again

I wanted to install CM10.2.
my phone was stock Galaxy S3.
first, I rooted it- that went fine.
then, using ROMmanager, i've installed Clockworkmod Recovery- this was also successfull. i've managed to boot to that, and i also performed a complete backup. BUT I DIDNT HAVE IT FLASH THE ORIGINAL RECOVERY i.e. Odin download mode. (first mistake)*
then i copied the CM10.2 files to the phone, and used CWM to install it from .zip, but i forgot to WIPE the phone and FACTORY RESET first. (2nd mistake)**
now the commom problem occurs that after succefully installing CM10.2 it is stuck on the swirly cyan boot screen. but it doesnt go anywhere.
unfortunately when i try and enter recovery mode, it just goes back to the ODIN mode and i cant do anything.
PLEASE PLEASE. help me
*crying
Recovery is volume up + home + power
Download is volume down + home + power

Thank you thank you thank you
however stupid my assumption was, and however simple your answer,
you just saved my virtual life. THANK YOU
a new problem surfaces
now that i've been able to boot in recovery mode, i did wipe disk and factory reset.
but now i cant re-install the CM10, because the .zip file is no longer on the SD card (seems it's rather empty compared to before)
when i plug it in the computer, i dont see the device like before, so i cant copy files onto it.
what should i do?

On a general note, read my "understanding the basics before rooting" thread linked in there.
