What method/methods did you go about? Honestly not ready to root/unlock but I know I'll get the itch soon. This device is nice as is for now but yea I miss titanium backup and would like to be ready for any custom rom to drop, etc. So if you guys dont mind posting what method or thread you used I'd appreciate it, would at the same time help other at&t users not sure of what to use in the dev section.

It will take care of it all.
Only way is to use a tool? Anyone else go the long way?

I agree hasoons all in one works fast and efficient for unlocking and flashing SU for root. It opens the doors for custom roms quite easily
While I fully trust hasoon's all-in-one, I prefer to do things manually just so I learn more about my device. It was extremely simple. Go to htcdev.com and follow the instructions for obtaining the unlock code for your bootloader. This works for the AT&T version as well, where it did NOT on the original One X(L) in the US, we had to modify the CID. This one works right off the bat.
NOTE: As detailed in the instructions and warning screen, once you go through with the unlock process, it will delete all files on your device. Backup your music/pictures, etc before doing this.
Once you have the bootloader unlocked, push the TWRP recovery .img through fastboot (instructions are on the TWRP website). Now that you have the custom recovery MAKE A BACKUP of your stock ROM immediately! This will backup a fresh install without root.
Now from here, you can sideload the superuser.apk (or if you prefer supersu) or flash it via a .zip (which is what I did). I let my device boot after backing it up, downloaded the .zip and rebooted into recovery and flashed it. From there I installed Titanium Backup Pro and manually removed a lot of the bloatware (AT&T Navigator took a couple times to remove...).
I don't know enough yet to make a custom ROM for us, however I'm poking around on the forums and looking at guides. I'm sure the experts out there will have something for us well before I can pick it up, so I'm confident we'll have something soon. I personally dislike Sense and am excited for CM10, but I'm sure that's a little while down the road.
Follow the instructions via HTCdev.com and TWRP (and other posts here) and you'll be fine. There's also the AT&T RUU in case you botch anything up too bad. All you have to do is re-lock your bootloader via fastboot and run the .exe from your desktop computer and follow the directions to take you back to stock.
Enjoy!

I appreciate hasoon's tool and will most likely use it in the near future, but for now I rather go the manual way. As I've been away from htc for a while I rather do it this way at first to just familiarize myself with the process as chris. I mean there cant be a con doing it manually than using the tool right?
The only "con" would be if you screwed up one of the commands. Even our resident developer Lloir said he used Hassoon's tool for the simplicity.

True lol. I havent even rooted yet, phone is pretty nice stock. Oh believe me, wont be long until I dive into it and probably just break down and use the tool
failed root (AT&T/TELUS model)
I have a phone that is currently bricked due to a failed root attempt assumingly using incorrect boot.img (I have TELUS/AT&T version and I assume the boot.img loaded was for different model. I have since discovered Hasoon's all-in-one tool and can successfully load and launch TWRP (ATT model) recovery but I do not have a recovery file (since I did not have this loaded at time of attempted root). Does anybody know of a way to recover the phone back to stock or any working state?
You can use the RUU file to flash it back to its original form. I don't see a file for TELUS so If that's what you have I don't know if this will work. Make sure to choose the AT&T one if that's what you have.
I'm not sure if you have to relock the bootloader first, but it wouldn't hurt. From memory, these are the steps I took with my One X when I returned it to stock so I could exchange it for the One X+.
- Relock Bootloader by powering off the device, hold the VOL DOWN key and then press the PWR button until the Recovery/Bootloader menu comes up. Use the VOL +/- keys to move up and down and the PWR key to make a selection. Go into the Bootloader menu and choose RELOCK BOOTLOADER.
- Power off the device.
- Install HTC Sync from HTC's site if you haven't already.
- Connect your phone to your computer and then double-click the RUU exe file you downloaded and follow the prompts.
Thank you very much. I didn't know that anybody had an RUU for the AT&T/TELUS model I had searched everywhere and only found international models. I will give it a try to see if it works.

Says it cannot update the phone and to get the correct RUU. I guess it doesn't work with TELUS phones.

Download my toolkit.
Pull the boot.img from my AT&T ROM. Boot into recovery and flash any of the AT&T builds I have from here.
Shut the phone off. Hold the volume down and power button together until you are in the bootloader. Press the power button to select fastboot and have the USB cable plugged in.
Put the boot.img in the kernels folder of my toolkit.
Press the "With this command" and press flash kernel.
Now pray that your phone loads up!
I downloaded your QX senseless v1.0.zip and pulled boot.img from it. I have the phone in TWRP recovery mode but am not sure how to get the zip there to install. A removable drive does show up in windows but it is not accessible. Is there something else I need to do to send the file such as via fastboot or something?

The boot.img has to be flashed hbooot/fasboot mode then the Rom in recovery
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
My confusion was how to load the package. I was unfamiliar with the usb restrictions since my last phone was an HTC magic (android 2.1 I think). I found the information on the ext4 partition and successfully sideloaded the package via the recovery console. To note I did need to use the adb from the current SDK as the one included with hasoons AIO kit is old and doesn't support sideload.
It appears I am back up and running with hasoon's senseless ROM.
I will need to play around to see if it is functioning correctly but so far it booted and knows my carrier..
YAY..
Thanks to Hasoon for the ROM and tools, definitely worth donating to, I will be doing this shortly.

My final method for root/recovery was to htcdev unlock. Then I fastboot flashed TWRP. Then rebooted into recovery and adb pushed QX zip and flash it. Ignore QX boot.img error. Reboot into fastboot and flash boot.img from QX zip. Reboot.

Nice! Glad to hear you're back up and running.
Root to unlock?
I would like to begin with a warning.
Im a complete noob. I want to switch to android with the HTC One X+ as my first android phone.
I want the phone, but I want it unlocked as I travel abroad and I don't want to be locked in a contract.
I realized it AT&T won't unlock your phone even after you pay the $350 ETF.
So
1. Does rooting unlock the phone?
2. Do sites that claim that giving them your phone's IMEI number and paying a fee to get an unlock code actually work? A
I want to know this for sure before I pay $550 ($200 for phone + $350 ETF) the One X+.
Thanks for your help
No, rooting does not SIM-unlock your phone.
Yes, there are legitimate unlocking sites. I'd recommend contacting Hassoon here on XDA as he has stated that he can look into helping users SIM-unlock for a fee.

I have a lot of questions about this stuff. If someone knowledgeable could quote each one and answer them it would be very much appreciated.
1. Currently I am S-Off via Revolutionary but I am not yet rooted and I havent flashed a recovery tool such as Clock work or Team Win. All I have done so far is got S-Off. What is my next step?
2. On the OG evo you just held the volume down and power button to get to the screen where you can flash roms and stuff. How do you get to it on the 3D? I havent flashed Team Win yet it that why it isnt working?
3. What exactly is the difference between S-Off and root? I thought S-Off meant you were rooted and could flash roms etc. What does root do for you that S-Off does not?
4. What do I need to back up? I didnt think of backing up before I got S-Off. Is that ok? What do I need to do to make sure that I can make my phone like it was out of the box with S-On if I need to? Should I Nandroid backup before I root? Was I supposed to back up before I got S-Off?
5. Are there any good Roms out yet? What are the best things I can do once I am rooted?
That is all for now thank you so much!

Ok so do I go ahead and put TWRP on my phone or do I backup first? Will I be able to return my phone to stock if I need to?
In some uncertain terms, S-OFF allows you to obtain root. Imagine root is like the administrator account on your Windows PC (i.e. when you right-click and "run as administrator" you're running a program as "root"). Root of course is the linux user name for the admin, head honcho, whatever. If you had S-ON, your phone would see that you're trying to up your lowly status from user to root, and stop you like a ton of bricks. Or if you managed to hack your phone and circumvent it, s-on would find out and **** you and your children up. (or just take away your root).
Anyway, you need to do 3 steps here to fully modify your phone.
1. Obtain S-OFF
2. Flash a custom recovery, because the default one sucks and doesn't let you do stuff.
3. Install a program that allows you to manage and grant superuser (root) access to programs that require it (such as wifi-tether).
You're on step 2.
You'll need the following. The android-sdk and also a recovery to flash. You can google the android-sdk. The newer one has made things a little complicated, so I will try to walk through that.
When you obtain and install the android-sdk, you'll need to download the platform tools for it. So start the SDK Manager.exe. It'll pop up with some "choose packages to install". Cancel that crap. Click on 'Available Packages' and expand 'Android repository' and select 'Android SDK Platform-tools, revision 6'. This will install ADB, which you may have used in the past.
Power off your phone (pull battery). Hold down the volume rocker and press power button. It should load into a white screen. From that white screen you can scroll down and select 'fastboot' with the power button. Fast boot is how we're going to flash a recovery, in this case TWRP. Get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192077
Throw that img file into your android-sdk\platform-tools directory.
Open up a command prompt and CD to your android-sdk\platform-tools directory.
You can flash the new recovery by entering the following command:
Code:
..\tools\fastboot.exe flash recovery recovery-twrp-shooter-1.0.0.img
What you're doing is running fastboot.exe (which is located in the android-sdk\tools directory, but requires and adb dll file located in platform-tools, hence the topsy turvery method here. You're telling it to flash a new recovery image, and then you're telling it where on your computer that image is.
Once it's done, you can reboot your phone, and now you have recovery. Next you'll need to obtain a super user program so you'll have root. People generally use, 'superuser'. I think the easiest way to grab this is to just download it's zip to your phone and flash it in recovery. Grab the zip for flashing from here.
You should be s-off'd, have a recovery and rooted by now. As a disclaimer, I assume no responsibility if this screws up your phone.
EDIT:
To answer some of your other concerns. You'll want to backup prior to flashing any ROMs. You won't really be able to backup anything of value prior to flashing recovery. If you need to return to stock there are RUU ROMS on the developer forum. If you flash that in recovery, you'll lose root (and I think s-off) and be cast into the world of yesterday. If you're still concerned at this point, I would refrain from attempting to root your phone and maybe have a buddy do it.

1. Your next step would be to flash the recovery (twrp is a good option) through fastboot, and then run the permanent root.
2. volume down and power button will get you to hboot. from there (once you have flashed a custom recovery (twrp or clockworkmod) you just scroll to recovery, select it, and it will load up. and yes it isnt working because you havent flashed it yet.
3. S-off is security off on the write protected partitions of the phone basically. it allows you to flash custom recoveries, roms, kernals, etc. Its a lot deeper than than, but thats the gist of it. Root will allow you to run certain apps on your phone and give them heightened privileges.
4. there isnt really much you can back up before s-off. other than temp rooting and doing titanium backup for your apps. thats fine that you didnt do anything but there isnt a way to backup s-on. you can get back to s-on but it sounds like it is pretty complicated. i havent personally tried s-on again yet because i have no interest in having s-on haha. you can nandroid backup before you root, but i personally did it after root.
5. there are a few roms out, but if your not a flashaholic i would wait for a few days or a couple weeks for the roms to be refined. in the meantime just enjoy tweaking your device and not having to re-root every time your phone reboots haha.
Let me know if you have any more questions!
Hi, My AT&T One X+ is stuck in a boot loop after trying to root. I think the problem is that I was using a method to root a non-AT&T One X+. I had the boot loader unlocked, and I have tried to factory reset but it goes into a boot loop. I am stuck, and I don't know what I can do.

Using something for the international version on the AT&T version is definitely your problem. I do no understand why people can not read. You will be lucky if your device is not broken depending on waht tool you used. Now to try and fix, Go into the boot loader using power button and volume down. Go to fastboot and flash the STOCK AT&T RECOVERY. DO NOT USE AN INTERNATIONAL VERSION THEY ARE NOT FOR YOUR PHONE. Run the RUU with a locked boot loader. Alternatively You can flash AN AT&T RECOVERY and use the sideload option to try and place a AT&T ROM on the phone. Use recovery to install the zip.
WARNING: IF THIS DOES NOT WORK I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT WORK.
I think it's very hard to completely brick these phones with S-ON. You should try running the RUU and start all over again, using the all-in-one toolkit and follow the instructions here.
The similiar thing happened to me just the other day.
Heres what I did
Relock bootloader
Download stock AT&T RUU
Run RUU
You should have a stock phone now. That's what happened with mine anyway. This is my experience. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.

How did you do it? Where can I get the stock rom, and how do I flash it? I am new to android phones, I just switched from iPhone where everything is pretty much the same for every phone. I need as much help as possible. How do I relock the bootloader, and will AT&T be able to tell it was unlocked?
Search within hasoon2000's posts. He has the stock ruu posted somewhere.
I don't have htcs instructions in front of me but I'm pretty sure they explained how to lock the bootloader when you were following their instructions to lock it.

This is the RUU you need:
http://www.htcruu.com/?dir=EvitaRE
Not sure what the exact steps are to flash it as I've never done it but I think it would go something like:
Boot phone into bootloader and connect it via USB to your computer
Lock the bootloader, from your computer run: fastboot oem lock
Then from the computer execute the RUU .exe you downloaded above
If you downloaded the all-in-one toolkit, you could instead select "Relock Bootloader" and then "Do Command" and follow the instructions.

Thanks for the link, I had a link to a bad download before. My only problem now is that the phone is not detected by the computer anymore. Is there anything I can do? Is there a certain mode that I need to be in for using the RUU?
I was able to get my computer to detect the phone and install the drivers. The RUU is currently running. I was wondering if anyone could help me to find the right method to root my phone.

Search around the forums for the stock ROM. Make sure you use the right model RUU. INTERNATIONAL AND ATT are not the same. Once you've located the RUU, use hasoons toolkit to relock your bootloader (there is an option for that). ATT will be able to tell if you've relocked because it says "relocked" at the top of the screen when you run hboot or fastboot.
The RUU will install the stock ROM once you launch the program from your PC. it will take about 5-10 minutes to do so. Once it completes your phone will reboot and it will be stock. Let me know if you need help flashing a custom recovery and ROM

There are many ways to root.
1) install recovery using hasoons toolkit
2) install recovery using fastboot or adb.
There are other ways but #1 is what I recommend. Very easy to follow instructions

Just go flash a custom rom. Everything will go back to normal then.

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to root my Dinc 4G and I have a few questions before I do it. New to this so please bear with me.
Do I remove my sd card when I root? I know it wipes the phone and since my backups are stored on the removable card do I need to worry they'll accidentally be wiped too?
If I use Hasoon's toolkit to root, will I be able to later choose to go s-off? My computer is running Win XP since I primarily use my tablet and have never needed to upgrade to a non dinosaur computer so I can't use Racun's s-off method as it says it requires Win7. If I do eventually upgrade my computer, will I be able to achieve the higher level of control over my phone?
I hope these aren't stupid questions. Thanks for your help!
you cant use hasoons aio toolkit it doesnt work with the newest ota. back up your sd card bc it could be wiped. so copy and paste all your files to your laptop.
---------- Post added at 10:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:02 PM ----------
if you dont have access to win7 download ubuntu (linux) and use the dirty racun through that. its really easy to use/set up and if you have any questions about dr head over to unlimiteds support channel theyre really nice.
Just as reference for you I did the dirty racun method twice without any issues on Windows xp but you need to make your own decision on if you want to attempt it I'm not advising just giving you my experience.

Thanks for the info, guys! So I guess my next question is this, because I'm new to rooting and extended control of my phone, I'm not looking to do anything crazy, just remove bloatware, run better backup apps, and maybe flash a new ROM (probably Viper). I'm learning as I go, but would you guys recommend s-off for me considering I'm not looking to go nuts with changes to my phone. I'm nervous about bricking my phone because I went too fast so I'll slowly make changes as I understand more and more. Is this making any sense? Can anyone point me to a thread that explains the post root processes a little more newb-friendly like? I guess I was counting on using the toolkit to do most of it...

Using the FakeCID method, you're less likely to brick your phone, but you will void your warranty as you must sign up on HTC Dev, and provide your serial number (it's in the token).
Using s-off, you don't need to use HTC Dev at all and you gain much more control over your phone and can do bad things if you aren't careful...
That said, both methods are proven and both work well. I suggest to go directly with s-off and do your homework before flashing anything. (i.e. make sure it's for this phone and make sure its something trusted and always check the md5.
Good luck with whichever you choose. This is a very good community, so if you get stuck, there is usually someone to help.

If you just want to start with having root on the stock ROM, then yes, you can flash a superuser package. There are two steps after S-OFF:
1. Install a recovery (either TWRP or CWM)
2. Flash a superuser package (either SuperSU [CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip] or SuperUser [Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip])
+1 to what md said, or just install a recovery and then viper as it already has superuser

The second part of your response is understood, but could you help me out a bit with the first part? i downloaded the file from the link, where do i go from there? I understand it has to do with the temproot process but does it do it automatically or will I still have to type the scripts? Thanks, you've been very helpful so far. I'm used to car forums (an area where I'm often the expert), where people are far less friendly and even less eager to help one another...it's a nice change.

When you reach step 12 of the unlimited.io process, extract Inc4GUnlockV5.zip to a new folder and open RunMe.bat. This starts the script. When you choose option 6 from the script, it will perform all of the necessary commands for you. Just follow the instructions that appear in the command window.
By the way, in order to use any of these S-OFF or unlock procedures, your phone must be on the latest update. Check by going to Settings > About > Software Information, and make sure you have Android Version 4.04 and HTC Sense Version 4.1.
Could someone explain step #8 in Unlimited.IO's DirtyRacun instructions? It says to RUU my device while in fastboot. My understanding is that I place my device in fastboot by powering down and then holding up or down volume (please clarify) and the power button. Do I simply connect my device via USB cable? Do I have to enable USB debugging? I ask because it mentions the debugging mode a few steps later. Once the devicem is in fastboot, do I simply run the ruu.zip on my desktop? What file from the zip do I use? I downloaded the zip and placed it in the file where i unzipped the DirtyRacun zip file. The rest of the process seems pretty straight forward but i am new to this so as much detail as possible is appreciated...basically, I need a step by step lol. Thanks.
Put the ruu on the root of your sd card you don't need a computer but when you flash the ruu your phone will be completely reset

You don't need USB debugging turned on until after running the RUU, as your phone will be factory reset during this process and you'll have to turn it on again anyway. I suggest running the RUU.EXE from your desktop with the phone attached, but you can do it either way.
IIRC, you don't need to be in fastboot to run the RUU.EXE method. As long as your windows drivers are working properly, you just need the phone connected.
However, later on when you do need fastboot, here's two ways to get there:
To get into fastboot with just the phone:
Make sure phone completely off (battery pull will really make sure)
Press and hold down the VOL DOWN button
While holding the Vol Down button, press and hold the power button until you feel the phone vibrate a moment then release the power button. Keep holding the Vol Down button a bit longer
The white HTC screen should appear, then the fastboot screen.
Another way to get into fastboot is to have your phone connected to the PC and use adb:
Open CMD window
Connect phone via USB cable
type: adb reboot-bootloader
Once you are there, you can plug in the USB cord connected to your computer. The "FASTBOOT" should change to say "FASTBOOT USB"
I followed all the steps and it said s-off was completed successfully, but now my phone has rebooted and there is not unlock ring or apps on my homescreen...i can swipe down to reveal the dropdown menu but other than that nothing...what did i do wrong?

Hello,
My amaze 4g is currently running GB with the bullet proof custom rom i found here a couple years ago.
The boot loader is unlocked, and it is S-ON.
I wanted to try and update my phone to an ICS rom such as NRGZ28's energy Rom found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362759.
First attempt, I factory reset the phone, cleared cache and cleared dalvik cache and flashed the rom. I chose the option to install it using the stock HTC kernel. The installation went smooth without errors until the final reboot to finalize the installation. The phone gets stuck in the white screen with the green htc logo on it. I recover using Clock Work Mod and everything is back to the old GB setting.
I assume it is because i have an outdated kernel so I go to NRGZ28's thread and download the stock kernel he has posted there. I flashed the kernel using Flash Image GUI apk. This is where the problem happens. After flashing the kernel, the phone is stuck on infinite loop at the above mentioned htc screen.
I flash the energy rom with the newly flashed stock kernel and the phone finally gets past the htc logo screen, but freezes shortly after during the blue animated splash screen and proceeds to repeat this. I can get into boot loader just fine, but am unable to get my phone working again even after a Clock work mod recovery.
please help!!
There is a special process you have to follow when going from GB to ICS, you can't just flash the latest kernel and expect it to work with ICS.
I would do a full wipe/factory reset, then follow the instructions here to upgrade to ICS stock, then you can install whatever ICS ROM you want:

Are you able to get into the bootloader, fastboot, or recovery? I'm unsure of which HTC screen you are talking about, if it is the one before trying to boot into Android then I would just ignore it for now. If you're having trouble relocking the bootloader, you might try this toolkit, which includes a tool to relock the bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493905
All this stuff can probably be found in the HTC Amaze Bible, which you should probably familiarize yourself with before messing around and potentially bricking your phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679486

The all-in-one toolkit is not recognizing my device. Not sure if it's a problem with windows or the toolkit.
Also, it seems the toolkit only works if you are able to actually get to your phone's home screen, which I am unable to do.
So frustrating.....

Here are some more instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575550&highlight=relock+bootloader
It seems as though the problem is with ADB communicating with your phone. Type in "ADB devices" to see if it is detecting your phone.
Also make sure the file "fastboot.exe" is in the same folder as your ADB file that your command prompt is using.
---------- Post added at 03:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:03 PM ----------
Also are you in bootloader or fastboot when you are trying to do this? I believe you should be in fastboot.
To enter fastboot: Boot into bootloader (hold power and volume down button), scroll down to fastboot, hit the power button.
Now try executing the fastboot command using adb. (remember to make sure fastboot.exe is in same folder as adb)
Alright, so I got it relocked by hooking it up to an old tower. It seems it was an issue with windows not recognizing my phone for some reason.
NOW, there's a new problem. On the bootloader menu, on the top it says "RELOCKED". I choose the recovery option, and it immediately takes me back to the bootloader menu displaying a "Security Warning" message under "RELOCKED".
I am going to cry.:crying:

This is good... I think. You can now move on to the next step in these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575550&highlight=relock+bootloader
You have to rename the RUU to what is says in that link, place it on an external SD card, then reboot into bootloader. Then it should automatically install the update (there might be a prompt, just hit yes).

You can flash any *ICS* ROM you want. There's another process if you want to go back to GB (though I'm not sure why you would want to).
You should be able to use the Toolkit to unlock the bootloader again, and I would recommend flashing the 4ext recovery while you're at it. From there you should be good!

Thats fine now since you are locked you can download the ruu file pertaining to your phone/carrier and put it in the root of your external sd card and boot into the bootloader and it will automatically detect the ruu and start updating. however you must rename the ruu appropriately (depending on which carrier your phone is) for T-Mobile you rename the ruu file ph85img and it detects it automatically. Good luck

Yep I was just overreacting. After I renamed the ruu file, everything fell into place and my phone is now functioning with ICS.
So apparently, my phone isn't rooted anymore? is this normal?
Flashed 4ext using the all-in-one tool kit. Nothing happened. Can't run any apps that require root. I'm confused.
Yeah, that's totally normal after flashing an RUU and relocking the bootloader. Just re-root, here's a really easy tool for it: http://theunlockr.com/2012/05/01/how-to-root-htc-amaze-4g/

That tool doesn't work for some reason, even though its the tool I used when I first rooted my phone. I just went and did the fastboot flash unlock_code.bin to unlock my phone again.
But for some reason, I can't get 4ext to flash... I went through the steps in the link you provided but my phone doesn't show the app nor am i able to access it through the recovery option from the boot loader menu.

Could you find any guide? I need to be able to stock a m9 ...
This is a fairly easy process. BACK UP YOUR STUFF BEFORE YOU READ ANOTHER WORD. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Make sure you have ADB w/fastboot set up on your computer. If not, search for 15 second fastboot adb in google and install it. Make sure you have the HTC drivers installed, as well. I usually can't do this unless in install the latest version of HTC Sync for some reason.
Relock your bootloader: Turn off your phone. Hit Volume down, and power until you get to the bootloader screen. Go to download mode by hitting the volume keys and hit power to select. Plug your phone into your computer. In cmd prompt, make sure you have your phone connected by typing adb devices and hit enter. You should see a number, which represents your phone. If so, type in fastboot oem lock to relock your device.
Turn on your phone and make sure you don't have the option in your developer settings enabled to allow bootloader unlocking. If so, turn it off.
Go to the HTC website. Download the latest RUU for your phone. Download it and run it. After this does it's thing, provided you didn't change too much from your phone before like SID/MID, or make your m9 look like the developer version, you should be back to stock in around 15 minutes.

You realize, of course, that you are posting to the USA HTC ONE M9 forum for AT&T, correct? If you want an international base for your phone, read the post I made below and use the correct RUU from the HTC website.

Here is the most reliable way to return the stock to your smartphone https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120731364 For Europe.Important! Initially, the firmware must be installed 4.30.317.12
Okay, I've been pulling my hair out for the last few days trying to figure out what the HELL I have been doing wrong. This whole damn time, I've been trying to use the internal SD storage to manual flash the RUU, to no avail.
I have since found the right RUU version available for download, instead of using the RUU exe and such that HTC has (And failing all the time mind you).
I used this guide: http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-restore-htc-one-m9-to-stock/
And for some ungodly unknown reason EVERYONE AND THEIR FREAKING GRANDMOTHERS keep saying "SDcard"! NO! It HAS to be the EXTERNAL SD card. It makes me wonder if anyone even LOOKS at what file manager programs calls the extsd, It USED to be sdcard... Back on devices that ran versions of android before JELLYBEAN. We're on Marshmallow and higher now, come on, get with the times!
I thought I needed to re-flash the recovery because of a red triangle, but I didn't remember that it does that by default when s-off'd. Access recovery by holding power, and pressing volume up once.
