First, I would like to say I am VERY unhappy with Sprint at the moment.
There are two distinct points they lie to your face.
First, they call their plan the "Truly unlimited data". That being said, it is only unlimited for standard phones. On plans with so-called "Truly Unlimited data" there is an extra $10 fee for smartphones (premium data charge).
The second time the lie is with the roaming policy. "You get truly unlimited data, but if you roam more than 300megabytes, were going to cancel you.
Who else has thought this is complete false advertisement?!

Roaming service isn't on Sprint, its on Verizon. So when your Sprint phone roams, Sprint pays Verizon for that "borrowing" of the network.
So no, not false advertising.

Maybe if Sprint's data was decent, then we wouldn't have to roam...
Then explain the "unlimited data except for certain phones". It's ridiculous.

I understand what your saying but that's not the point. We pay Sprint and not for crap service. Sprint has great customer service but horrible phone service
Without roaming sprints data AND analog network is absolutely piss poor. It's almost useless to travel with as is... soooo many deadspots even between huge cities on interstates.

It's ridiculous how much Sprint sucks at coverage. In my area, I'm lucky to pull 400 kb/sec download!
Sprint is bad, old news. Its unlimited data cause we can barely use their 3g so it doesnt total that much data imo they got us good.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
How is that false advertising? It's not like they're guaranteeing certain speeds or amount of coverage in your area...you run that risk with any carrier. I don't recall them ever saying "all data plans for all phones are the same price" either. If they want to charge an extra 10 bucks for smartphones, that's their prerogative. I'm pretty sure they aren't the only carrier that does that and I don't think they've been misleading in doing so. As far as roaming goes, Gen is right...That's a different carrier. You have unlimited data on Sprint, not Verizon.
Bottom line: if you're not happy with Sprint, switch to a different carrier. Any one of them would be happy to take your money.

"Unlimited data plans starting at $69.99". That's what the advertisements say. Where is the false advertising? And no carrier gives unlimited roaming data. Nor did Sprint ever claim to.

The 300mb line you used there is the only thing misleading about any of that... Sprint does reserve the right to kick you for over 300 mb roaming but unless your using only roaming, they aren't going too... A good example is people who force roaming to use a different network than Sprint. I regularly use 7-12 legit gigs per month and at least 500mbs+ of it is roaming. As long as your using 55-60%+ of Sprint Data you'll be fine.

The sprint sale pitch is Unlimited data " WHILE ON THE SPRINT NETWORK" & " While on the Now network ( in other words Sprint network)" which means while your using their network not while roaming... You dont have to pay extra when you roam but you cant roam unlimited data.....
Sprints 3g speeds do suck and if you dont have LTE in your area only thing to do is to change carrier .
By the way guys, the roaming want the main part. It was massively the ten extra dollars randomly added to my bill.

Sprint finaly got LTE in Wichita,KS so im happy with the dataspeeds. But even when sprint had crappy data the one thing that kept me with them was their customer support. no matter what happened to my phone i could take it in and most of the time they replaced it right there on the most. most of the time i payed nothing. sometimes i payed restocking fee. and very very rarely did i have to pay the insurance deductible. broken charge port? replaced.

Randomly added is bull****! You knew about it before you signed your contract. So what, I think a $10 smartphone fee is more than fair. The average smartphone user uses 100 times more data than a dumbphone user. I'm more than willing to pay a $10 premium for unlimited data on my smartphone than pay tiered data pricing like all the other carriers.

So I am about to be 14 days in my Verizon contract and they are charging me these hidden fees called Verizon fees and its like $13 a line so in total my bill come to like 180 something with my 19% discount without it was supposed to be 220
But when I did the quote online it was 137 without taxes and my discount included
180 without taxes and no discount
So do the math and this is not including the activation.
End of rant

I just checked my first bill and besides hitting me with all possible kinds of fees (chicago 911 fee wtf?) my monthly access charges are almost $20 more than what verizon web site shows when shopping for a new plan!
I'm having 2 browsers open side by side as we speak and my bill shows $239.94 monthly access charge while verizon store shows 223.95!
for this very reason I switched from sprint years ago! I'll call customer service and try to work something out, but if they think we're all saps they're sooo wrong! I'll be back with T-mobile in no time and I'll make sure all of my friends know who's the best wireless provider! I've never had issues like this with T-mobile!

Your first bill is always WAY higher than it will normally be. Not only do you have those government taxes that EVERY cell network has to charge in your area, but you have your 35.00 activation fees, as well as most peoples first bill has a full month and a partial month of access fess. Then you have your taxes on top of that which are also higher than normal since they are the taxes on the entire bill. If you went to a store you should have gotten a first bill estimation page with all your paper work. I know the in store reps are required to print one and go over it with every customer so they know what to expect on the first bill and dont act exactly like this.

Maybe by raising the ETF, they will reduce their losses regarding those that are taking advantage of the system. Hopefully, they'll pass some of those savings onto us or invest them into their network infrastructure. I was hoping that they'd upgrade their infrastructure with the $10 per month premium data fees but haven't seen it in my area.
My girlfriend got the HTC Hero less than a month before it was discontinued. There have been some updates that have bogged her phone down fiercely. Especially the newer updates to google maps. Her navigation wouldn't last more than a few minutes before FC'n. I was able to cancel her contract and get her a new phone for a reasonable amount of cash.
I would hope that they do not slap a static higher ETF on every phone and instead look at each phone individually. It wouldn't have been reasonable for her to have had anything more than a $200 ETF on her phone. Although I'm surprised that our Evo 3D's don't have a higher ETF and wouldn't be upset if they were.
The 30 day sprint guarantee is a great program and should be adequate time to know whether you want to be locked into a contract with them or not so the ETF is usually a non-issue with typical subscribers.
And as for not caring what the ETF is... I guess you guys weren't with AT&T when they got the Iphone. I was locked in my contract for another year and my bandwidth was horrid. It wasn't until Verizon got the iphone that they bothered to upgrade their network with all that iphone money they had been collecting for years. You never know how sprint service in your area may change in the future.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple was the only reason for ETF's going up on the carriers that have the iPhone.
* Doubled their ETF to $350, and the activation fee to $36; removed activation fee promos.
* Cut the trail period in half to 14 days (from 30).
* Canned annual phone upgrades.
* Killed off the Sprint Premiere Rewards program.
Next up is no more discounts on family plans (already cut from all lines to the first two), and data throttling.
And they're basically scrapping Wi-Max to start building out their LTE network...2 years behind everyone else.
They just went from okay-for-the-price, to worse than AT&T/Verizon within a week. I've had it with 25k-150k 3G speeds and shi*ty ass 4G that's the same fing speed as AT&T's 3G, and that's if I'm within eye sight of the tower.

I agree that all the changes suck really bad for us. I don't understand why wireless carriers discourage users from upgrading their cell phones every year If cell phone manufacturers are going to be making new, top-of-the-line phones every 6 months, then what purpose does it serve to restrict a customer from upgrading? In regards to your comment about wimax being scrapped, I live in Arizona, where there is practically no 4G service in major cities, including Phoenix (6 towers total). I have complained almost non-stop to Sprint about their lack of 4G coverage in Arizona, and to my shock they are actually turning on more towers in the Phoenix area. At the start of 2011 there were only 2 towers in Phoenix. So, although the wimax rollout has slowed down significantly, Sprint and Clear are still turning on 4G wimax in markets that desperately need it.
How many forums are you going to repost this in? Just post it on sprints forums ffs

Although im not dead set on changing carriers just because of this, i will see how things pan out with the 1x and 3g upgrades and how the iphone affects data bandwidth availability. Yes most r speculating that it will kill the network but only time will truly tell. As for wimax, most of the early promoters of 4g expected that lte was gonna be dominant in the end and good for sprint that it's basically just a base station software update. Yea sucks for wimax phone owners but hey it is wat it is... in my opinion, i don't expect any companies that i pay for a service to give me anything above and beyond what im actually paying for which is just the service. If they do that's an attractive bonus but i expect that it will prolly cease to exist one day. Sprint doesn't have to give us unlimited data but they choose to at the moment to attract more subscribers. However if that prospect becomes to costly at the demise of their network from overloads then they will remove that option plain and simple. Business is business at the end of the day and money talks.
Its cute that you think data throttling is next up when its already happening. hurrdurrr

I can assure you it's not. My Speeds have been going up constantly (see my sig) & I chew through data.
Also the one of the 2 largest points behind the shifts is to "keep" it that way.
They mentioned that.

When Sprint switches to LTE and i can no longer use my EVO 3d for 4g I wonder if they will take off the extra charge.

Even during the switch (if/when they switch), Wimax will still be available through Sprint. They aren't going to deactivate it.

By the time that rolls out I am pretty confident another evo will be out.

And the extra charge isn't for 4g, its getting really annoying still seeing people complain about a "4g charge" that doesn't exist and that they knowingly accepted

why is Sprint still advertising and selling WiMAX phones? especially for my zip code that not only dose not have it and never will! why on earth should someone pay $99.00 for evo3d, marry sprint for 2 years knowing darn well they will be forced to break contract! where is the FCC or there consumer groups?
seriously, there has to be a law. now if they gave them away, no contract, and no $10 data monthly, that would ale sense.

They still sell them cuz their wimax is still in use and they don't have any lte phones yet. So no it isn't illegal.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
They're juuuust beginning to roll out LTE, and Wimax is in far more places right now.
Besides, sprint can't just throw all their existing phone inventory in the trash, especially when there are so few (if any?) LTE phones available yet.
No LTE phones, WiMax is still up. LTE won't even be large for another two years.

what happens when I sign 2 year marriage and you shut down in 1.5 years? sucks cause that are what they are doing!

They are keeping WiMax up until 2015. They've already nixed any new WiMax phones this year. Everyone will be out of contract by the time they bring WiMax down.

This is exactly right. WiMax will be up until everyone's contract is up. I believe they stopped bringing more WiMax phones also.
So by 2015 WIMAX will be completely down?

No idea. All we know is that they signed agreements with clearwire to keep it running until 2015.

so the question remains, what happens to my Photon (or any WiMAX device) in 2015? What if I want to keep Photon? I used to work with a guy that had a 10 year old Sprint phone with SIM card (I know cause I lost 10 bucks to him!), maybe I want to keep photon for 10 years.
my point is, your double screwed by Sprint!!! You get screwed by Sprint by paying for a phone that everyone knows will be worthless in 2015. Then in 2015 your forced to pay them (or another carrier) again because what you have is junk?
im fairly sure what its gunna turn into (look at iden for proof) is that all the towers with wimax will have it until either they need that slot for something else, or the wimax card dies...

Why would the Photon be junk/worthless just because of no Wimax? If what you are saying is true then my Photon (along with many others) is worthless right now because my area never has had nor will ever get Wimax. I still find it very useful and a great phone without it.
Sprint cannot continue to support older products forever. If they did then there wouldn't be enough money to put into newer technologies and therefore could not stay competitive. This is why everyone offers upgrade credits/new devices to customers after a few years. Sprint is no different than say, for example, Samsung, which released new model TVs every 4 months and drop support for older models around 6 months - 1 year. It sucks for the consumer but to keep up with competition they must pursue new technology and provide it to the public in a timely fashion. Old products don't make the money, newer products do.

That theroy is wack and I can prove it!! I'm 50 years old and went to Vegas and my "Old Product" worked just fine with and without the blue pill upgrade!!!!
It would be nice if we were offered the option to upgrade Photon, even if it cost $$$If you notice, you rarely see me in the Development Section here. I dont change ROMS every other day like some. Once I get my phone how "I" like it and it works, I leave it alone!
Well, maybe I'm missing the point here...but...I'm in the Midwest in a city (of almost 1M people) that was promised Wimax 4G 14 months ago. Sprint 4G has never come here. We even were shown on their coverage maps as 'Coming Soon'. My Photon works just fine on 3G & Wifi...I turned my 4G radio on once just to see if 4G was here, nada.
After 2015, when Wimax is turned off, my Photon will work just as it does today.
(BTW...I'm happy to continue to pay $10/mo so Sprint can build out 2 4g networks for all of you, while ignoring us entirely. Sarcasm intended.)
So...you might feel screwed in 2015...every bill I pay today...I pay to build out 2 4G networks that I might see by 2015 when you've started to feel pissed off. At least you'll have options for 4G phones that will work, and likely Free Phone options by then...I don't even have that option.
I mean, 3 years from now, who knows what technologies will be on our phones by then? Phones will likely be completely different, making our Photons dinosaurs, just like the Pre in my desk drawer...
The photon would become a 3g only worldphone until Sprint converts all of its spectrum to LTE.
You are paying the extra $10 for unlimited data. Sprint is the best bang for buck national carrier. Once you put it in those terms, you'll feel better about it.
All of the carriers are migrating to LTE-only. You're not going to have a mobile phone last you 10 years anymore regardless of carrier.
The good news is that your wireless experience is going to improve more often.
Stop crying about it.

@dorelse, exactly my point! I buy a new car with navigation system, when car arrives it dose not have it and im promised they will get it. then you tell me that option is not available?
the above would not be bad BUT, by selling WiMAX sprint knows for a fact people in areas like ours don't have it and never will! take out the 4G promise. cool but now they are false advertising!
JMO!
Sent from Photon 4G code name "Neo" using XDA Premium!
You still get WiMax wherever it's available. It's not false advertising. You have a choice. Would you rather pay $300 for a Verizon phone that has bloatware, overpriced plans, unstable 4G network that goes down every month, data caps, and crappy battery life? How about an AT&T phone with data caps and crappy service? Maybe a t-mobile phone with throttled data speeds from a carrier that might not exist in 2 years?
You bought a phone that can be used anywhere in the world. You got a WORLDPHONE for the same price as any other top-shelf device Sprint offers even though it has the capability of having superfast data speeds in certain areas. You are paying a relatively low price for unlimited phone data which no other US carrier offers anymore. You can even use this phone as a netbook, nettop, and media center without paying extra plan charges.
Seriously, get a grip.

I will tell you this and that's that I agree with you 110%. As someone who lives in an area that was promised 4G service by the end of 2010 and still does not have it and never will, I think Sprint sucks balls and has a lot of guts charging "premium data" charges. I pay the same amount as someone in L.A. who has 4G but they get much faster service. Is it fair? No. is there anything that the FCC or anyone else will do about it? Probably not but I do have a suggestion and I am willing to bet would work at some point. Someone needs to find a lawyer that is willing to take on a Class Action case and then the print customers who dont truly receive any "premium data" can join in and get compensated. If anyone wants to do it I'm in for sure.

He's got a valid point especially about the premium data charges we all pay and dont all receive service for. Sprint claims they are because of the phones capabilities but they have phones that do not incur the charges and have some of the same data results on 3G. Premium data should only apply to 4G areas. Bottom line.

Makes a point but the $10/month extra is not for WiMax but unlimited data whether it be 3g/4g. At least, that is what Sprint tells us even though the WiMax data is what really costs them the most.
As far as I know there is only one Android phone in Sprint's lineup that doesn't incur the extra charge which is the Samsung Replenish and that was set to change anytime if it hasn't already.
But put all that aside for a moment, even with the extra 10/month it is still a cheaper plan than anyone else. If they weren't already charging the extra 10 I would bet their rates would have been raised already to cover it so the point is basically moot.
The stock part of my phones says 3g .. But the custom rom says 1x ... Sucks when it says you're covered but really not.. And please let's not start on 4g..
