Still on ICS, NO update thru Kies... Can I change my CSC number to get official JB updates?

Help!
My phone was unlocked when I brought it, and I dropped it and smashed the screen a few months ago. I got the screen replaced and when I got the phone back, I noticed there is a 'N' on the notification bar of the right hand side, next to the signal bar. I also noticed that when I turned the phone on and off, the orange splash logo comes up, to which it never did before. I can not check for updates from the device, and my baseband version is I9300BVLH1. I am convinced its the same phone, but I just want to know if this has happened to everyone, or have I been screwed over by the company that replaced the screen. And when will I get the 4.1 update? Thanks a lot

Dont update,ICS is better....

"N" on notification bar is for just to notify you that a new msg, missed call or any about any event.

Who knows when you get the update ask the phone vendor .
orange splash logo reads as orange brand phone they have your update .
Base-band is nothing to do with an update is the modem .

LH2 is the latest Orange FW, they don't have JB yet. You can flash the UK (BTU) ROM from sammobile though for JB

[Q] Vibration stops working after update to latest Samsung Official Firmware

Recently just got my GS2 and I love it (coming from iPhone 4 and use to have HTC Magic). But I encountered a problem with my phone the same day I got it which is that the vibration stops working after I updated the phone to the latest firmware provided by Samsung through Kies.
I've tried going into the test mode *#0*# and just select vibration but the screen just turn black and the phone won't vibrate. I am trying to find the official firmware for my phone but I can't seem to find it anywhere. My phone CSC is different from the one on the Official Firmware thread. I can't remember of the top of my head what it is but if it helps, mine seems to be an import set and the CSC starts with J.
I've tried doing a hard reset through the OS but it also didn't help. What I am trying to do now is trying to find some way to reflash the OS but Kies don't allow me to do that and I am not sure where to get the official firmware as I am afraid that if I flash it with other firmware that is of a different CSC, my warranty may not be honoured.
So just wondering if anybody here got any tips and helps to solve this problem or do I have to send it back to the shop?
One try Kies emergency firmware recovery .
Two a factory reset .
Official firmware for your phone is only on Kies Samsung stock Samsungs not phone providers .
Two choices one service centre Samsung
two is the unofficial route of flashing via Odin stock firmware . Samsung will not refuse warrant but seller may .CSC may not be for your area enter APN settings yourself .

I also noticed a lack of vibration today. Could not get it to work whatever i did, but I did not update it... In fact I didn't do anything except trying out my new Samsung car holder with it.
I suggest you use this thread for further analysis.
I debranded mine last night but couldnt follow the final step. Now I`ve plugged my SGSII into the pc Kies can`t tell me what firmware version I`m
using. Even worse, as I`m a new user I can`t post on that thread to ask for assistance! LOL
I wish i`d left it well alone now, all I wanted to do was debrand it so I could update to KE7. Sigh

Debrand mean remove bloatware and does not give you an update path .
You can try a factory reset and wipe all data see if Kies picks up update .
Or use stock rom KE7 via Odin or the current update KF1 .
KIES will update original firmware when its available but may not pick up stock firmware .

Just flash KE7 without doing any debranding stuff and hard reset after the device starts for the first time.
Cheers jje, I`m assuming if I want to use stock rom that means I need to root the phone? I`ve never dabbled in that side of things before and was rather nervous just about debranding.
I almost wish I could undo what I`ve done and just wait for Three to send out the update. I`m assuming thats not so easy?
Eureka, suddenly i noticed that my phone's vibration ability was back when walking to a shop with my headphones in. It seems like the headphone jack somehow influences things. Maybe a bad connection between these components?
Maybe you should try this out to confirm this?

What a Sorry?

Why I have this picture when i turn my SGS2 on?Just after lock screen.
THX
Something has become corrupt have you changed or installed anything lately?
Are you on Orange? It looks like the error that the new KE2 firmware gives when you put an Orange sim in the phone. Either flash KE1 to get rid of it or just hit OK and ignore it, most people who get it say it doesnt have any effect on the phone, but some say the battery life is worse. There is a rumor about a KE3 firmware coming soon to fix, but until then it may be worth flashing KE1 IMO.
This is all assuming you're on orange of course
you may have to restore to factory settings. It happened to me once and only that solved my problem.

You look to be on Orange with XWKE2 firmware
So what to do?? re flash with ke1?
That will cure it but your battery life will suck . If you force close it , it turns off to flight mode and then comes back .
It will only do it if you restart the phone , it force closes then resets itself back to normal.
You may need to long press on the power button and re enable data network mode
Usually cured by reflash firmware or just a kernel .
But i would try factory reset first .
jje
If your on Orange UK Network then you can downgrade the firmware to KE1 that will stop it . You will have to wait for the next firmware release to see if it has fixed the Orange UK issue .
Be aware though that I have noticed battery problems with KE1 and I live with KE2 as it has better battery performance for me . It only force closes on phone start up so not a biggy really .
If your not on Orange UK , then hard reset the device ( BE AWARE THIS WILL ERASE YOUR DATA) and see if that works .

tried that didn't work. Hell I don't care though. I'm getting a replacement due to screen problem on mine and I bet that will come with KDD by default.
Actually it will be interesting since it will be a new batch from Samsung, CPW all around London have been waiting for it for two weeks. I'll report on which firmware Samsung decided to put on the newer batch.

Prepare by barricade yourself as CIA will come by as soon as you press "Install" on it. They will put you away forever...
Which Samsung update are we speaking about? For the Samsung hub?
You are probably safe to install it but since I do not know for sure which update I can't say for certain.
Nothing will happen except you lose beeing rooted. Root again you'll be fine. I've done this several times
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Do you mean "Galaxy Security Update (GSU)" that just appeared in Samsung Apps?
I installed it and it just started some service, no idea what it does exactly (I'd like to know that).
Guys, I rooted my phone with CF KErnel, switched to Ninphetamine Kernel and now Kies refuses to recognize my phone as "supported for upgrade" (GT-I9100 does not support firmware upgrade). I flashed the CF Kernel and tried again, but still Kies refuses to update my phone. It doesn't really check if there is a new firmware thus making it impossible to upgrade.
What do I have to do to make Kies recognize my phone again as "supported for upgrade"? Why does it suddenly refuse the CF Kernel (KF3)? It recognized my phone but since I updated Kies a few days ago to the latest build it rejects my phone.
I got the update by going to "settings-about phone- software update-check for update".
I don't know what version it is. Thanks for your help.
Switch USB debugging off, dude!
Kies via WLan, USB Debugging doesn't matter that way so it's not the issue.

I just downloaded an update from samsung as well. Hopefully this firmware update will make my battery life last a bit longer but I did see something that seemed a little funny to me.
I checked to see what was changed within the "About Phone" section and I see that the Kernel version ends in a " [email protected] #2 "
I'm a noob, but that just seemed a little wierd to see the word 'root' in the kernel description. My phone is completely stock.

Your phone isn't rooted. It's just the description of the kernel. Guess Samsung's developers use Dell
Any ideas how I can make Kies recognize my phone again? Please

ah, thanks
just to update on battery life after the firmware upgrade
today, i unplugged the phone from the charger at 8:15 in the morning, made a phone call, used gtalk, browsed the web a little and checked my email. At 11:25 am I'm at 96% battery life. What's the big deal right?
Well, before the firmware upgrade, if I unplugged the phone from the charger at 8:15 a.m, and checked the battery at 9:15 a.m, I would be down to 95% without even using the phone!
So after moderate usage and 3 hours later, I only lost 4% battery. That is truly a pleasant surprise.
small sample size, i know, but just wanted to let you guys know what I've found so far.
so neither root nor the kernel are the reason that Kies behaves that way, we just updated on Kies on the Laptop and connected the unrooted completely stock sgs2 to it and it said the same thing "GT-I9100 not supported for firmware upgrade" even though it is completely stock ... Kies ftw!

Jelly Bean Bricked !!!

Hey guys
Just to let u know. Today I got Jelly Bean official update, on official unbranded phone in UK with original untouched software and after few hours phone got completely dead !!
Maybe wait with your update until more info will appear around UK.
oucccccch that sucks. did ya update through kies or OTA update via phone. If you have a rooted phone and attempted to update OTA it will fail. kies shouldn't give ya that issue.
If your phone is still running stock rom and zero binary counts. take it to Sammy store somewhere.
EDIT: remember if your phone is rooted you can always go to download mode and flash any Rom via Odin. it's not a problem.

I will definitely go tmrw. I hope it's very very rare case.
If you are one of those people who can't be bothered to waste 2 weeks on repair, you could try using a Jig. Thus hopefully allowing you to boot into download mode, and flashing stock firmware with Odin.

Sounds the same to me. In the morning I got OTA JB. I was charnging it in the evening. I think last time when I unlocked it and texted was around 11pm, and then after midnight no response. I took battery out for a minute. But nothing, no any sign, even after I plugged in. Nothing.
Recovery Mode
Try to boot into recovery mode. Turn phone off by taking out battery, put it back then press and hold(in the following order) volume down+home bottom+power, remember to keep them press until you see a screen that shows a yellow triangle with a warning sign, release all bottoms and press volume up. Them you will see recovery menu. If you can boot in recovery you are in luck and is something you can fix yourself with Odin 3.07 and a stock rom.

[Q] SGSII Update from Keys after using ODIN

Hello good people from xdadevelopers,
PREREQUISITES:
I come to you as a noob seaking some answers. Somewhere in November I bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 from Orange that came with the Orange Branded software. Because the phone kept switching off (the Sleep of death bug, i think) I sent it in for service and it came back with the same problem.
Seeing that Samsung Keys does not have an option to restore the phone (as I could do from iTunes for my iPhone) I reflashed the phone with 4.0.4 Android XXLQ5 osing ODIN. The phone works better now, still get the SOD, but not as frequently.
The problem that I am facing now is that I cannot use keys anymore to update and since the 4.1.2 Update should start shortly I don't know what I can do to pass to the new version.
QUESTIONS:
1. How can I do a software restore from keys to the new Android version once an update is available?
2. Are there any precautions that I have to keep in mind since I have the LLQ5 version installed (I used the emmc checker from the store and my chip is "sane")?
3. If I flash the Orange version back from Sammobile, will I be able to use Keys again?
I have also added a screenshot of how the phone battery stats looked after recovering from a sleep of death issue just in case you know if it's another problem and I missed the diagnostic.
Link for screenshot: http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach.../3/5/4/7/5/Screenshot_2012-12-03-16-46-42.jpg
Thank you for your time,

Hi Peaceful Droid,
Thank you for your answer. Could it really be that simple as flashing the official ROM and then the phone is yet again accessible through Keys?
If this is the only thing I have to do than thank you
This phone has been a pest since I bought it. I don't know why Keys doesn't let you to simply make a restore to get a stock phone as you could in iTunes. There it was that easy, just connect the phone and click restore then set-up as new iPhone and problem solved. Back to stock in 30 minutes.
Thank you,
Andrei Doru Tudose
Yes. remember always read the instructions carefully and do it step by step and you will never face any issues...
