Hey guys,
Sign this if you want to get back the features this phone is meant to have. I didnt start it, but its from another forum and I thought it would be good to repost here.

Aaah yes. Taking out software features. Sounds just like the Verizon I know. You know, it's the Verizon whose support technician told my gf that the SGS3 is completely root-proof. SMDH
Verizon takes away features just because of how much they hate us. The only way to get them back is with root. This petition will do nothing.
It's worth a try!

Hilarious! The Google couldn't get them to change. I have unlimited data with them. The only option is to suck it up and root. When this contract runs out I'm doing the pay as you go plan with T-MO.

No blocking mode is the feature where you can silence all notifications and calls but let selected calls from contacts come through. I'm in the military and work third shift. I was looking forward to that to silence when I'm sleeping but let certain people through like family and work.
Well, at least one feature we thought was missing is actually there and working - Blocking Mode. It's just hidden, and we have to take a roundabout way to get to it:
Blocking Mode is Present and Working on the Verizon Note 2!
Hopefully since it's there and working it will be officially added into the settings with a future update.

You sir are way more optimistic than I am. I believe that because the feature is physically present however hidden from us, that it's intended to be hidden and if anything Verizon might straight up remove the feature altogether from the next update, not reveal it to us. God I don't know what would offend me more. If they removed the feature altogether in an update or if they decide to unlock it in a future update and claiming it for their own as some kind of new feature that the almighty Verizon god's graced us with..... jeez.

Just wondered if anyone else is using the roam control app and how it's working for them. It worked great on my epic 99% of the time but so far no luck on the photon. Running rooted stock with bootloader still locked. SU popup asks for permission twice just like it did on the epic and it passes the license check but it never actually switches to roam.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know about the Photon but I can tell you it doesnt work for the Motorola XPRT.
It is not working for the Photon atm.
Is there anyone that makes a rom that can integrate this? I used to use CM7 on my EVo4G and I was able to set roaming only
On the latest version of Roam control, you can select "other" under phone type...and it will change it over to roaming...but only for a short period of time before it switches back to the strongest signal. So, he's close with it..just needs to figure out how to keep it locked in.
I haven't had any luck with roam control can't wait till it does cause
my patents live in a dead zone and I need roaming.

I emailed the developer (mrgreg) and asked him if he had plans to support the photon in the future because I did a little testing for him when the app first came out to help him support samsung devices. Here is his reply:
Hi, thanks for the email. First off, I do have plans to hopefully support the Photon in the near future...I was hoping to already have a Photon, but I haven't gotten the chance to buy one yet. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks.
Thanks!

Hey guys, just wanted to drop a line and say hi. I've been wanting to pick up a Photon as a development device, but I literally have not had any time. I apologize if anyone has emailed me and I haven't replied yet.
I need to take care of a few more personal things, but then I plan to work on getting Roam Control to work on the Photon. Thanks!!
That would be awesome as I love your app!

Yes, I needed it for my Evo 4g too. My office at work is bad for signal. The photon is a little better but I would like to have the option to Roam only again.
Well this last month has flown by, but I bought a Photon this afternoon. I have about 2 weeks to get Roam Control working before I have to give the Photon to someone else...so I'll be be working hard, starting tonight!
AWESOMENESS!! Thanks MrGreg!
After a few very long nights, I'm happy to report that I'm able to force roaming on the Photon!
I'm completely exhausted, but I need to do some more testing before I can release it. It does require root access to work.
I'll keep you updated!
You know I will help you test it if you need another test phone...
I look forward to buying this app in the market. This is great news.

I am also willing to do a limited time beta test of the new Roam Control on my rooted Photon. Say a 15 or 30 day beta testing period to confirm it is fully functional on my Photon and then purchase it on the Market.
Quick question for your Photon owners...do you normally keep your phone in "Automatic" mode or "Any CDMA" mode?
I need to pick one for my app...or I suppose I could make it smart enough to give you both options...
I would have to say we keep it on Automatic..

I've missed having PTT since I gave up Nextel for my HTC Mogul. But this news has got me stoked, and glad I've stayed with Sprint. Coming in the form of an Android application, this is rumored to connect with all past, present, and future Direct Connect phones...
http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/20/sprint-leaked-memo-direct-connect-now-android-app/
Anyone else able to get excited about this?
UPDATE: Released today, September 16, 2012. Only available for the Kyocera Rise in the Play Store. More phones to follow, but no information coming from Sprint about what or when...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qualcomm.qchat.dlc
Here's a video demonstration of the application from Sprint:
Not really, I always found it annoying. Nothing more annoying than listening to conversations in your super market by some wanna be thugs talkin to his baby mama

Hell yeah! PTT works great in the field. @
Always saw it as useful to people who can't be bothered to take off gloves or drop tools, like construction workers or garbage men. Its just instant speaker phone, right? I just remember a few friends having it and hearing that annoying chirp and listening to a conversation i'm not a part of. Pick up the phone and talk if you aren't preoccupied, chances are people aren't impressed and find you annoying.
PTT could be a blessing or a curse.
LONG time ago, I worked as an IT in a hospital, and was given a huge-ass iDEN phone. While it was great for my purpose (people in another branch could always get in touch with me), I grew tired of thug wannabes dialing random numbers and trying to see if they find a female on other end. Always pleasant when you sit in a meeting and all of a sudden *chirp* yo baby wassup! And no, I always had to keep this thing on, even during meetings. Company policy.
But other than that, it was great. Looking forward to it on Android, as long as you can set privacy settings, and maybe ability to reject callers on initial callup.
Sure, "Thug Wannabes" could be a problem. I grew up in a country part of Central Florida, and EVERYONE has it. They still run it. My dad just got rid of it recently. So, I'm glad it's coming back. There was a way to make your conversations go through the earpiece and not the speaker. Some people just didn't have the decency to do it that way.
Here's my take... If they are using their Data Network for this, than it's going to be worthless, the already existing TikL, is AWFUL if you don't have a decent signal. If it's going to be based off of their talk/text network, then I'm all for it, it would probably work much better.

I use tikl very often and it generally works fine even with only one bar of signal. I think it is by far the best PTT app for android. Tikl also has a privacy setting for all those who don't like that people can just chirp and start talking. With the privacy on no sound can come besides the chirp until you respond.
Well i do agree over hearing conversations can be annoying it wasnt just thugs everyome was guilty of that. I work in construction and always have 2 phones on me. My gs2 ans my i756. Alot of times its so loud i cant hear my gs2 ring but i can hear the 2 way on my nextel. It would be nice for my girlfriend to be able to 2way me if its something important.

HeyTell works pretty well for what it is.
It will be interesting to see if the app Sprint will be using is true time direct connect or voice storage.
The down side is the speakers on some android devices are horrible, EVO 4G and EVO 3D come to mind. Thats one of the main reasons i went to the Epic Touch, better external audio.

Doubt it'll work anyway, but it was worth a shot. If you have a second to sign it, and feel it may be worth it in any way. I just want what everyone else has on their Note 2, and feel I shouldn't have to root my phone just to get some stock features. Ridiculous.
Or you could enable unknown sources and download the .apk and install it that way.

SPlanner Widget missing is probably a bug. It is on the phone but broken.
Blocking Mode doesn't seem to work with CDMA, which is probably why its blocked by CSC.
APN editing is blocked via CSC but could be unlocked by Verizon if someone didn't want to root.
The wifi thing isn't a missing feature, but its definitely an annoyance.
What else are you referring to?

Then on what basis are you making the claim of it being a CDMA issue? I just made a thread in the Sprint forums asking users to report their experience with Blocking Mode, or if they even have the ability to use it stock out of the box. We'll see if it really is a CDMA issue or not.

I probably should have said Verizon's network instead of just cdma. I always forget about Sprint.
It seems to be network related because the software is mostly the same between variants.

So either Verizon's network has problems or they're being jerks and purposely butchered it so it wouldn't work.

I see you're complaining but you didn't state the reason why you are petitioning for. Can you be more specific?
Petition
I'm going to attempt to try and post a link, the best I can. I just want the features that should be included on the phone, without rooting it. I do plan on rooting the phone, however as the workaround for the bootloader has only just been accomplished recently, and a lot of the stylus features have yet to be worked into most of the ROMs, that I've seen anyway, I'm holding off until something special perks my interest.
In general, I'm just against Verizon butchering the phone, and needlessly at that. I'm not bashing rooting, or saying I don't want to, I'm simply saying I don't want to root the phone to gain access to stock features that should've been included with the phone in the first place. Its just a little backwards from my view.

Yeah that petition is going nowhere.
Heck, TMobile just got Multiwindow in an OTA last week. They didn't even have the function on stock.

Who are we ask for features from Companies?
Only thing we can do is, give feedback. Companies don't listen to us for their decision. And definately not Petitions.
Its a good thing that you have started the initiative, and even i have participated, but the thing is, it don't work
I would say if you're that upset about Verizon's lack of features either root it and fix it or go to another carrier.
I guarantee Verizon could care less about some silly petition.
I am very disappointed at the rate development is going for this phone. I thought sprint note 3 dev was dead. They had more development for the phone than the Verizon version. I switched.... should have stayed.

It's because of Verizon.
Could you be more specific? What functionality are you missing? I mean, is there some specific feature your phone doesn't have? Seems like you might just be bored. My Note 3 does about anything any other android phone can... and then some.
Smart thing to do would have been to check before you switch. Personally I like being able to make calls without losing them and having service everywhere. You have 14 days to go back.

Safestrap allows for a lot of customization for roms and such. Part of the problem is the locked bootloader, and so far every person who starts a thread to crack it gets locked. People, one person more than others on here, seem to be against allowing anyone to unlock it and instead recommended people to drop over $700 on a "developer" device since they did and lock any thread that ventures away from that. Hopefully someone won't get too irritated by the attempts to block progress on here and will actually accomplish this instead of being lazy and just saying "go buy a developer device". Until then, thank goodness for safestrap and the roms we do have now.
+1
I was with Sprint for four years. I was constantly flashing ROMs, kernels, themes, etc. chasing a myth that there was Dev software out there that would improve Sprint service. I live in the 2nd largest metropolitan in the U.S. and I couldn't get service at stadiums and other highly populated events. It was downright frustrating and embarrassing having a flagship phone that couldn't send/receive texts, use data, and sometimes not even make calls. Yeah, I was duped by all the false Sprint advertising. But not any longer.
I like AOSP. But what I like more is a reliable service that allows my phone to work virtually everywhere.

Little by little, Android is becoming iOS. Starting to get very annoyed with the limitations in recent updates. First we get permalocked if we accepted 4.3 OTA update. Now I found out in 4.4, Google has prevented write access to external storage?! And there's no way around it without root? SIGH. Not not only can I not root my phone, but I can't even write to my SD card without plugging it into my PC? What's next, take away our widgets and ability to change launcher/interface? What happened to the old philosophy of Android? It's OUR devices and we should be able to do what we damn well please with them.

That's not good enough. Sure for devices like the Note 2 it would allow a locked phone to become unlocked at any time. But what about devices that never got unlocked like the Note 3 and other future devices? This doesn't resolve their situations.
Also, yes I agree with you OP. I refuse to "upgrade" from this phone to anything else any time soon considering the way these phones are turning into locked up garbage. I'm so grateful for all the work modders and hackers managed to do with this device which allows me to run something as amazing as Cyanogenmod 11 right now. I saw what the stock 4.3+ ROM's look like, yuck. Imagining being stuck with that "forever" is like a nightmare only I'm awake.
Anyways there really is no better alternative to Android at the moment or foreseeable future. If you want a smartphone with even a hint of customizability then Android's your only option.
You are not seeing the big picture. If you want phones that you can hack away at and are not secure there are plenty out there. Verizon and AT&T teaming up with Samsung have gone after large military and commercial contracts with these phones. Therefore they have made efforts to make them as secure as possible. You can thank all the hackers in the world pulling email and banking information off your phones for that. And you probably can throw in thanks for the locked bootloader to all those that returned their bricked phones under warranty.
As I said, you have choices, Nexus, HTC, developer's editions....etc. You just need to do a little research before buying.
Agreed for many of the UI changes. But I understand. They have to appeal to Ma and Pa Kettle.
Hopefully at some point they will embrace custom ROMs with a special model like Linkysy did with their L model. But I'm guessing not.
