Doubt it'll work anyway, but it was worth a shot. If you have a second to sign it, and feel it may be worth it in any way. I just want what everyone else has on their Note 2, and feel I shouldn't have to root my phone just to get some stock features. Ridiculous.
Or you could enable unknown sources and download the .apk and install it that way.

SPlanner Widget missing is probably a bug. It is on the phone but broken.
Blocking Mode doesn't seem to work with CDMA, which is probably why its blocked by CSC.
APN editing is blocked via CSC but could be unlocked by Verizon if someone didn't want to root.
The wifi thing isn't a missing feature, but its definitely an annoyance.
What else are you referring to?

Then on what basis are you making the claim of it being a CDMA issue? I just made a thread in the Sprint forums asking users to report their experience with Blocking Mode, or if they even have the ability to use it stock out of the box. We'll see if it really is a CDMA issue or not.
This thread is a bomb ready to explode.

It is a theory? Ever heard of them? It doesnt work for vzw jb gs3 users either from what I read..
I probably should have said Verizon's network instead of just cdma. I always forget about Sprint.
It seems to be network related because the software is mostly the same between variants.

Well there goes that.
So either Verizon's network has problems or they're being jerks and purposely butchered it so it wouldn't work.

I see you're complaining but you didn't state the reason why you are petitioning for. Can you be more specific?
Petition
I'm going to attempt to try and post a link, the best I can. I just want the features that should be included on the phone, without rooting it. I do plan on rooting the phone, however as the workaround for the bootloader has only just been accomplished recently, and a lot of the stylus features have yet to be worked into most of the ROMs, that I've seen anyway, I'm holding off until something special perks my interest.
In general, I'm just against Verizon butchering the phone, and needlessly at that. I'm not bashing rooting, or saying I don't want to, I'm simply saying I don't want to root the phone to gain access to stock features that should've been included with the phone in the first place. Its just a little backwards from my view.

Yeah that petition is going nowhere.
Heck, TMobile just got Multiwindow in an OTA last week. They didn't even have the function on stock.
Meh.

You could always change carriers. I don't see verizon changing their ways but there are other choices if it bothers you enough to start a petition.

Who are we ask for features from Companies?
Only thing we can do is, give feedback. Companies don't listen to us for their decision. And definately not Petitions.
Its a good thing that you have started the initiative, and even i have participated, but the thing is, it don't work
I would say if you're that upset about Verizon's lack of features either root it and fix it or go to another carrier.
I guarantee Verizon could care less about some silly petition.

I do not currently have a solution, just posting my question/idea (that i'm sure someone thought of already but just in case).
Has anyone looked into trying to disable whatever it is that's causing our temp root to stop working after 5 minutes.
I disabled some of the automatic system services that start up, and was able to with the temp root method. Using apps such as "Autostarts (paid)" and "Gemini App Manager" I disabled all the VZW bloat and then some, but still lose root shortly after applying the process. I was wondering if it's possible to find a process (if that's what's causing us to lose root) to disable to allow perm root?
There are a lot of auto-start processes, though I did disable a lot of them, I'm not sure what they all do so I was just guessing. I'm not trying to brick my phone, so if it's not possible to get perm root this way, I'd like to know if I'm wasting my time . If any devs have knowledge or experience with this please feel free to chime in . Thank you.
Not sure about all that, but I was wondering about that whole HTC sponsored root process... whatever happened with that? They promised an official way to root their phones not long back.

They did, but the carrier has the final say. Verizon, wanting to be in control of everything, obviously said no.
I am sure there is a way to game the system and get it working... Internally these phones are basically the same when they use the same SOC.

True... tricking the unlocker to think a phone is a different model is the hard part. Probably best to just hack in anyway.
Wish HTC would be tricky and leave a deliberate backdoor for us with a wink followed by inattentive gaze. Wishful thinking I know...
Of course for security reasons said door would need to be made so that physical access to the device and a computer would be required. Thats the hard bit right there.
As it stands I will probably be picking one of these up on the Amazon penny sale. Unless I choose to go sprint and then get the Galaxy S 2... (more of a fan of HTC devices though so who knows) Dropping t-mobile possibly... unless they give me a darn good reason not to.

Haha, I've often wondered that too. If HTC really is trying to be DEV friendly, but they have to pander to Verizon as well, why keep patching the holes? Why not just leave a hidden backdoor that's not too easy to find, but that a skilled DEV would know where to look?

I highly doubt Verizon would have any clue about anything to do with where the code is placed to "patch" a bootloader. Their degree of any form of coding expertise when it comes to these things seems minimal at best.

It has me thinking i might hold off on rooting my evo when i get it, but was wondering if anyone else had the same thoughts?
Yeah, the stock experience will be great, but I'll be needing root to remove bloat. Just seeing one sprint app on my phone makes me want to kill a squirrel or something...
rooting doesnt necessarily mean going straight to aosp. especially right at the beginning there will be root + stock to remove bloat while keeping all the Sense perks. I know im gonna be flashing a stock rom
i'll be rooting not only to remove apps i don't want; but also to tether.

Totally agree on that however I do see one large benefit to rooting... Battery life. That's what drove me to rooting in the first place. I would love a new kernel, SetCPU, and a stock-like ROM that had no bloatware.

Never really thought of the extras, I rooted my evo on the first day i got it to sense 3.0, never really been on stock longer than a day, i forgot you had to pay for tethering. lol, the only sprint app i keep is sprint zone to check my usage and upgrade even though i have unlimited. So i guess i will be rooting. I guess im gonna use my early upgrade, the galaxy iii kinda looks cheaply built.

Was just reading a thread in one X forum pointing out how HTC is now essentially using the dev unlock 'may' void your warranty to avoid doing any repairs to unlocked phones. Even HW repairs, pretty shady. It doesn't matter so much in the US, as we generally handle issues thru service providers, but I thought it was an informative read about HTCs policies moving forward.

Wasn't this an AT&T only thing? That they are making HTC lock the bootloader and not allowing dev unlock?
Part right. Yra. AT&T is forcing HTC to make unavailable HTCdev unlock. The point of that thread is that HTC realized that if they allow for bootloader unlock they can ignore any warrantee claim of any unlocked or relocked phone, even if issue is busted power button or screen. Read the thread. You'll see what I mean.

Any answer to that question will be a complete guess. That will not be answerable until the phone comes out.
It can be assumed that ALL android phones are rootable. Some just take more work then others. Other then that, we won't know anything until it exists.

If this is a useless post I'm sorry, I just want to help if at all possible. Long story short I have a Verizon Galaxy Note II that I picked up and some things about it have lead me to believe I am in possession of a test device. I.e. silver markings across the front of it, a serial number, exposed wireless charging leads on the back, and it appearing as a "4g test device" in my account. I already soft bricked the thing once trying to root it. My question is, is there anything on this device that could be helpful to the community? I just wanted to throw it out there before I do anything stupid with this thing. Thanks.

I do not have a picture of the apps that were running on it as I soft bricked the phone it's running on a different image atm.
The two leads on the back are for wireless charging. The other stuff I don't know about.
You might try getting a hold of someone in the Dev threads as they would be the ones who would need things. I know that AdamOutler has basically unlocked the phone already but I might try to get a hold of him.
Where did you get the device from? All Verizon has the wireless charging set up. But the other things don't know.
Did you get this from Verizon or another actually retailer? Or was this an eBay / Craigslist purchase? Definitely get a hold of Adam though...maybe it has an old version of the OS with an unlocked bootloader

If there is even any good stuff.
Didn't VZW say they beta tested this phone a long time ago slightly before the release? My guess it is just one of those. I forgot, but it was posted up pre-release in a long winded post from another forum. Basically said that VZW didn't think N2 would be a big seller and wanted to test it out in the field first/found that more people enjoyed the white version as well.

Being a test device, it could potentially get radios and other ROMs before the release devices, but it sounds like that got wiped out in a failed root attempt. Also, the test device could have a signed and unlocked bootloader, but one probably couldn't dump it from the device for flashing anyway. I'm sure it is an early test device, as there are likely hundreds of other test devices, Note 2 and otherwise, for people to test and use before VZW gives a :good: to sell, or decides to pursue other devices.

It's because of Verizon.
Could you be more specific? What functionality are you missing? I mean, is there some specific feature your phone doesn't have? Seems like you might just be bored. My Note 3 does about anything any other android phone can... and then some.
Smart thing to do would have been to check before you switch. Personally I like being able to make calls without losing them and having service everywhere. You have 14 days to go back.

Safestrap allows for a lot of customization for roms and such. Part of the problem is the locked bootloader, and so far every person who starts a thread to crack it gets locked. People, one person more than others on here, seem to be against allowing anyone to unlock it and instead recommended people to drop over $700 on a "developer" device since they did and lock any thread that ventures away from that. Hopefully someone won't get too irritated by the attempts to block progress on here and will actually accomplish this instead of being lazy and just saying "go buy a developer device". Until then, thank goodness for safestrap and the roms we do have now.
+1
I was with Sprint for four years. I was constantly flashing ROMs, kernels, themes, etc. chasing a myth that there was Dev software out there that would improve Sprint service. I live in the 2nd largest metropolitan in the U.S. and I couldn't get service at stadiums and other highly populated events. It was downright frustrating and embarrassing having a flagship phone that couldn't send/receive texts, use data, and sometimes not even make calls. Yeah, I was duped by all the false Sprint advertising. But not any longer.
I like AOSP. But what I like more is a reliable service that allows my phone to work virtually everywhere.

Little by little, Android is becoming iOS. Starting to get very annoyed with the limitations in recent updates. First we get permalocked if we accepted 4.3 OTA update. That's not good enough. Sure for devices like the Note 2 it would allow a locked phone to become unlocked at any time. But what about devices that never got unlocked like the Note 3 and other future devices? This doesn't resolve their situations.
Also, yes I agree with you OP. I refuse to "upgrade" from this phone to anything else any time soon considering the way these phones are turning into locked up garbage. I'm so grateful for all the work modders and hackers managed to do with this device which allows me to run something as amazing as Cyanogenmod 11 right now. I saw what the stock 4.3+ ROM's look like, yuck. Imagining being stuck with that "forever" is like a nightmare only I'm awake.
Anyways there really is no better alternative to Android at the moment or foreseeable future. If you want a smartphone with even a hint of customizability then Android's your only option.
You are not seeing the big picture. If you want phones that you can hack away at and are not secure there are plenty out there. Verizon and AT&T teaming up with Samsung have gone after large military and commercial contracts with these phones. Therefore they have made efforts to make them as secure as possible. You can thank all the hackers in the world pulling email and banking information off your phones for that. And you probably can throw in thanks for the locked bootloader to all those that returned their bricked phones under warranty.
As I said, you have choices, Nexus, HTC, developer's editions....etc. You just need to do a little research before buying.
Agreed for many of the UI changes. But I understand. They have to appeal to Ma and Pa Kettle.
Hopefully at some point they will embrace custom ROMs with a special model like Linkysy did with their L model. But I'm guessing not.

What happened to the old philosophy of Android? It's OUR devices and we should be able to do what we damn well please with them.

A fix is in the works.

None of the alternatives have the S-pen or any analogous stylus, which I regard as essential.

Then perhaps a carrier that does not lock bootloader like Sprint or T-Mobile?

Assuming I lived and traveled exclusively in areas where one of those carriers had a decent signal, that could be a good approach. Unfortunately that's not the case.
