Question regarding RUU - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I am running latest firmware and want to do RUU again. I am S-OFF,unlocked and rooted.
So to do the same, I have to follow the following steps, correct me if I am wrong:
1. Relock the bootloader using "fastboot oem lock" in fastboot mode.
2. Run the RUU.
3. Unlock bootloader using HTCdev.com website and steps mentioned there.
4. Root again.

Soff means u can flash anything so u prbly don't have to do anything special. Just get to fastboot USB and Hook it up then start the ruu

i thought the issue would be that the stock RUU wouldn't run if it saw that the bootloader was unlocked. similar to how an official OTA won't run if you have a custom recovery (not really the same at all except for the net result)

I just did fastboot oem lock and ran the RUU and it worked perfectly
Thank you guys....

No, once you are s off, you remain s off forever. After running ruu, i unlocked it via htcdev and then rooted it. That's it.

Is it okay to run the RUU (2.13) for hboot 1.19 if I am on hboot 1.12 (s-on), unlocked and rooted? I know I'll need to oem lock to run the RUU but want to make sure it has no ill effects.

Yes you can run a newer ruu than what you have but not older. Also after you run ruu, you will still be s-off so you shouldn't need to htcdev, just flash recovery then a rom

The one think I didn't see mentioned and needs to be done is that before you run the RUU is that you need to boot into fastboot USB then run the RUU.
I don't believe you can re-lock your phone if you used the HTC method. It states right on their website that once you use their method there is no undoing it.

In fact, I can relock after followed the HTC method to unlock the bootloader. just enter into fastboot and issue:
fastboot oem lock
Good luck!
I'm yet to see an ruin that works with hboot 1.5 and ive tried maybe 4 or 5...they all fail for me with unknown error.

In my experience that's backwards. You have to lock the bootloader (fastboot oem lock) before you run the RUU.
hboot 1.5 is smart program lol. it restrict us in many ways...
the only method to re-install RUU's (or putit on stock/unroot) is to lock the unlock hboot then re-flash RUU

Stuck on Hboot 1.58, S-On, with no rom installed

I'm lost as to where to begin. I'm currently looking for sprints ics ota zip to try and flash and can't find it.
My phone is currently on Hboot 1.58 with S-on and no Rom installed. I can't install any old roms because of the hboot. Any direction would be helpful

Sounds like you're in a pickle. I don't think the ruu is out yet.
I can only think of 1 thing that'll work, although their might be other options. Try to downgrade your hboot using unknownforces method. I don't think you have to be in the android system for it to work.
Not sure if it works on hboot 1.58 but I don't see why it wouldn't.

i can't attempt unknownforces method because i can't flash a .zip. It'll give an error about older/newer hboot before it starts updating.
also i've already tried using HTC's dev unlock, but it gives another error regarding older/newer hboot
Just install one of the new ROMs and do the wire trick to S-Off. Then you can downgrade your Hboot. Virus has a stock rooted ROM in the dev section. I used that ROM when I did the wire trick. Now I'm back on Devil Toast with eng 1.04 Hboot.
Edit- Just noticed you said you tried to do HTC unlock but can't. So you're saying you are S-On Locked without a ROM? How is that even possible?

As long as your LOCKED S-ON, and not RELOCKED S-ON, take that thing to a repair center. If they don't have the Sprint ICS RUU (which I doubt they do) to restore your phone, they'll give you a new one.

Well if you install the newest hboot and need to run fastboot commands, you do need to unlock.
The Jbear 2.25 hboot works fine on this update if you need extended capabilities. I have flashed the jb2.25 and back to the stock 2.27, I made flashable zips for both stock 2.25 and the 2.27 hboots have flashed between them all on this Patch OTA.

load a non engineering hboot? I'm not faliluar "non engineering hboot".
An engineering hboot allows extended fastboot commands while locked...you can only run them when you're s-off. Just flash the OTA RUU before you run those commands and you'll be fine. That will get everything back to stock, hboot included.

easiest way to get the non engineering hboot its to ruu. that way you can minimized the risk of bricking when going back to s-on.
what you should do is this:
back up your rom.
back up your internal sd card.
flash ruu -3.14.605.12-
do the steps for s-on
check to make sure you are s-on
then you will be at 100% factory out of the box phone.
*** please make sure you are at 80% or higher on battery life and have some free time. this might take up to an hour to do successfully. ***

Can you boot into a rom as normal, or are you stuck at the bootloader screen?
If you're stuck at the bootloader screen, then I would find a way to unlock your bootloader (try HTCdev, hopefully it will still work) and then flash a recovery, a rom and then finally a kernel. You might need to run a stock RUU before you can re-unlock your bootloader.

Your bootloader needs to be unlocked to be able to flash a recovery; it must be locked to run a RUU. If you don't have the stock recovery on there then the only way I can see forward is unlocking with HTCdev.
If it's failing, you need to post some output as to why. Copy and paste the error text, or better yet, take a screenshot and post it here and people will be able to help you more.

Why are you wasting your time when you don't even understand the basics? This is another example of people that jump straight in without reading. Then expecting the community to clean there mess up......
For your bootloader to read "relocked" you must of unlocked and locked the bootloader atleast once. Why can't you remember how you did it?
Your best bet it to search your email for the unlock code HTC sent you the first time you unlocked the bootloader, download and flash it, then flash a custom rom.
Good luck
