[Q] Bricked My TF201 Sent in to ASUS - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Anyone else Bricked there Unlocked TF201 and sent it in to Asus for Repair?
I had tried to upgrade to the latest TWRP with the ADB method (su, then ... dd if=/sdcard/twrp.blob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4) and then rebooted the device. At that point I was hosed . I had Bricked it to the point where it would only display the initial ASUS Logo screen and then go into a boot loop. I figured out that if I used Power+Volume Up it would go into an APX mode, where NVFLASH could kinda of see it. As I understand it, if I had taken the precaution to Backup my Blob file I could have recovered... well, lesson learned.
But any way, I called ASUS and they told me it was no longer in warranty since I unlocked it. I asked for an approximate cost to reload the OS and was told $87.00
Well, after 7 days I get an email telling me I am out of warranty because I unlocked it and the Cost for repair would be...
Parts - $161.00 (Motherboard)
Labor - $65.00
Why do they need to replace the Motherboard. Don't they have the power to just reload the OS?? Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks

I'm italian and i bricked my tf201, so i sent to asus for rma and they repaired it in warranty.
I believe they don't change my mb.

This is the only way they fix this issue. It seems to me that they should be able to push the OS to the bricked prime with a factory cable of sorts, (like the guys over on the motorola forums do) but it looks like they instead just swap the motherboards out... I don't quite understand the process as to why they would need to do this either. Its probably some BS because we unlocked our primes... In this case im just going to purchase a prime with a broken screen and swap the motherboard myself. Much cheaper that way.

Thanks. I may do the same.

I am from Montenegro. I bricked my tf201 with job update. It was in warranty so I sent it for repair. They replaced motherboard, and made a few scratches wile doing that. It wasn't even rooted... I am so pissed off at them. I adored my transformer but this was so bad it ruined my vision of Asus.

Im sure it depends on what their policy is on how to fix it at the repair center. Generally, whatever makes the most money wins. That plus they need to dump all the spare parts on somebody....

They replaced the motherboard for free on my prime =D

Great. I just sent mine in last week and I'm expecting it back today or tomorrow. I don't have a warm fuzzy...

I love my Prime, but GOOD LORD, Asus has horrible support. A couple of rubber feet came off my docking station. They wanted me to send it in under RMA to get replacements.

No, not from Asus. I just got some rubber feet from something else and stuck them on. Asus is TERRIBLE for after-sale support. Much as I love my prime (A LOT), I don't think I'll ever buy another Asus product. They're that bad.

fix for brick
I was considering buying a broken tf201 and swapping processors, but you can get a "refurbished" tf201 for $275 on ebay.
So, instead of sending ASUS $220, I'll buy a semi-new tf201, and use my old bricked one for future parts.
It is a shame asus wont just reload the flash, but I guess it is their business model

This doesn't give you the "hanger queen" for spare parts but here is a place selling a "manufacturer refurbished" TF700 for $419
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Asus-Eee-Pa...34773390?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item257875c28e
Are keyboards interchangeable between the 201 and the 700?

Prime/new prime driving me nuts-dmclient

I'm gonna go crazy here, I can't even begin to explain how much lack of respect I have for this asus organization. So I got my new prime after a month of my old one being rma'ed. That was painful enough, but now I unbox my new C3 model and it comes with Nothing. No charger accessories warranty card etc.
Anyways that's not even my real issue. I power it up after charging it only to find out these new models are on .14?? Seriously??! So now I have the same damn Dmclient force close error as I did my FIRST prime originally. So I basically can't do OTA worth sh$t.
Really? This can't be happening
Oh and for the record I've already tried clearing the cache and data of dmclient
why did you get your first prime RMA'd?
I haven't heard a single person on here have a success story of returning their Prime to ASUS for RMA. Most seem to report them getting a TFP in worse condition than their first.
That sucks ass mate.
I would pm gary and tell him. What a joke.

It bricked itself that's how the first one died. Turned out to be the motherboard.
I did PM Gary on March 1st, havnt' heard from him once. Why would I attempt to PM him again? Pointless
I ended up getting the .21 to work manually...but now I have screen bleed on the new C3 Series. WOw what a disaster ASUS

Kind of sounds like maybe you got a returned unit... Or maybe I'm confused: was the C3 directly from ASUS or one you bought at retail? If it was a replacement for your RMA'd unit, maybe they assumed you kept the power adapter and cable when you sent your other one in?
Just trying to understand what happened here...

that's not usually always the case with replacements.
I know personally doing laser printer return exchanges with Lexmark that they don't include any of the peripheral components. They instruct you to send just the laser printer and to remove the paper, power cables, toner, photoconductor kit, and trays.
ASUS probably operates in the same fashion.
I know Best Buy also will only warranty exchange the parts you bring in and will open your replacement and take out the parts you didn't provide for the return exchange.

Why?
If they ask you to send in just the tablet then all you should get back is a repaired/replacement tablet!
Or are you saying they should give you a whole new set of peripherals every time an item is replaced?

What I'm saying is, give me my god dam cloth back and warranty information. Yes it's trivial but i sent it back to them in the first place. So give it back, it's not frankly that hard.

I know this is besides the point that they forgot to return things, but why did you send in the cleaning cloth? Were there not enough microfibers or something?
Dude go to Walmart and pickup the microfiber cloth in the electronics section sold from GE. It's like 5x the size of the cloth that comes with the Prime, it's thicker and it comes with liquid foam spray for only $9.99. You'll forget about that miniscule old cloth in no time.

Post RMA Experience with Prime.

I know I probably shouldn't bother posting as its probably similar to a number of other threads that have been around recently but I really had to share my experiences since I got my prime back from RMA.
I had a number of problems with the prime originally and I was regretting my purchase with a number of problems but was happy to give them a chance to RMA.
After receiving it back there where a couple of things which I spoke to them about and got resolved, I then updated it with the .21 software, since then, its been like a breathe of fresh air.
- I got splashtop working to my home pc and was running microsoft word/excel on the prime as it was native. Was absolutely excellent and ran perfectly
- Downloaded some games from the play store, and had such a nice experience as well as awesome graphics
- Played a few snes games through the HD cable to the TV using an xbox 360 controller, absolutely awesome again, a portable console for sure
- Got the beta of tapatalk 2 which runs so well on the prime which has let me go through all of the forums I normally use a PC for - definitely worth a purchase when its fully released.
- Internet browing using the STOCK browser has been fantastic, a couple of pauses but not enough to bother me, preferred it over dolphin and chrome as well
Summarised up, it has been probably the best thing i've used for the last few years, and I think with the new .21 software it is a now an excellent device.
Anyone thinking of buying but are worried about software, IMO can relax and go for it.
Sorry if you guys are all sick of hearing all this kind of stuff, but I was one that had problems and since RMA and update they have been completely resolved and I couldn't recommend it more now - and that includes people that I would only recommend ipad too before.
P.s. I recommend getting google cloud print set up, then download a program called Cloud Print for the prime. Can print perfectly from the prime

Out of curiosity, what were the issues resolved by the RMA? And, what are the first 5 digits of the serial number?
Issues I had where:
Light bleed,
Faulty Keyboard,
Non Existent GPS (still around, but will be happy once I get a dongle)
WIFI was weak
Lots of crashing.
.21 software fixed the crashing and my wifi seems pretty good now (better than my desire hd), they replaced keyboard and the screen is bleed free.
My serial number starts: BC0KA and was purchased on 6th Jan in UK.

RMA Issues
Hello,
I recently found out that my transformer prime had a soft spot on the back shell and it was causing creaking, I also have a dead pixel on the front.
I want to return it, but there were a few problems.
-The RMA number was recieved on March 14th, today is April 9th, and I'm not sure if its too late to send it
-I accidentally unlocked the device after rooting it, and I tried to factory reset and now I'm stuck in clockwork recovery mod and I can't get out
-I am not sure if this is still fixable
I'm not sure if this is the right thread to go to, but I really really need some help.
They have to receive it within 30 days of the RMA issue date.

Unlocked bootloader=no warranty. Sorry to break it to you, but even if you get your prime to Asus your RMA will most likely be DOA. The only avenue I can suggest is emailing Asus and pleading your case.

How do you accidentally unlock. That doesn't sound legit. There are massive warnings when unlocking. It would be impossible to do so. Sounds like you acted before you thought fully about it, and are now having unlocking remorse and are trying to cook up some story.

I just recently did a RMA, had the green camera issue, couldnt wait til classes were over as I needed it for some etextbooks but i wanted it fixed asap.
called the asus number for rma, was quick and simple and easy. they sent me a fedex rma thing where it was prepaid.
i noticed a lot of people had to pay to ship it back, but it wasnt the case for me as they paid for shipping it back to them.
I was wondering for those that had to send it back for rma, did you all had to pay to ship it to asus? weird.

They just sent me an email with a checklist of things to send to them and the address.
Not with me they asked me to box it up myself but they paid fully for shipping and handling costs both ways including arranging pick up from a location of my choice.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-6
I did mine through FedEx, for them to box it and ship standard was $30, ASUS didn't offer to pay 1 cent. Since they fixed a problem under warranty I'm going to raise hell for my $30 back. Being as they fixed a "warranty" issue they are basically admitting there was a manufacturing fault with the unit which makes it their responsiblity. I'm not doing anything until I get my unit back and make sure it all works right first

Another Prime down 40 pins are all bent

Hey guys i need some help. Well my the 40 pin connector on my prime are all bent and now it doesn't even want to turn on anymore, i'm assuming its because of that. Does anyone whether this piece is something that can be bought online somewhere? I really don't want to bother calling ASUS cos i kinda already know what they'll say. Besides, my warranty is voided anyways.
Or does anyone know of a good repair place for tablets?
my Prime is two months old and the same thing happened to me. I just sent it in for RMA. Seems to be a common problem.

I thought your Prime warranty was voided? Did you unlock it? I'm asking as there seems to be some discrepancies on what constitutes an unlocked bootloader voided warranty. I hear conflicting reports....some people are saying that you're totally screwed and I'm hearing others are getting RMA's due to some manufacturing hardware problems. Just curious if you're unlocked but yet still getting an RMA. Thanks.

I sent mine on April 24th, they received it on April 26th. Just checked the status and it says completion date May 2nd and has a Fed Ex tracking number. Cant wait to get it back. I was expecting a lot worse with all the RMA nightmare stories I have seen
Bit off topic but still on topic. If you guys still have that little plastic clip that came with the original packaging, I would use that to protect the pins when not in use. This is what I do. It doesn't look that bad without a case. I don't even notice mine because I have a case.

Terrible RMA Leeson for potential customers

Bought a new TP 64GB from Amazon. Worked for 2 days, then the computer stopped recognizing it. MANY MANY calls to Asus "support" had me jump through all kinds of hoops trying everything to get the thing to work. Finally I ship the TP to Texas at MY expense for RMA. I finally got it back an hour ago UNCHANGED. They never even tested it to see if they fixed it. Now I call and get ANOTHER RMA, and have to send it in again. Never buy another Asus product. Period.
lesson*
Ha! I'm not laughing at you my friend, but just the situation in general. I just got an RMA # for this annoying LCD mura that I have as a result of Asus' crappy displays that they used, but I doubt I'm actually going to use it since the only thing worse than their product design is their RMA process. Judging from the majority of threads on XDA, you should probably just be happy that they didn't break it on you and either blame you for customer-induced damage or just ship you back a broken tablet. Asus sucks.

That was my thinking exactly. The OP states that after 2 days there were problems. Within that short of a time period I would have been going straight back to where it was purchased and asking for a replacement or refund. (online retailer or not).

exactly. they go from a company - Amazon - that is pretty much the gold standard for customer service amongst online retailers where they could have easily dealt with them and had a prime in their hands within a few days to trying to RMA it through Asus when there are a million threads and horror stories already on this board. makes no sense.
the LAST thing you should ever do is try to send it back to the company to fix when you can get a new unit.

This a true story? Why would you get an RMA from Asus when you could have just returned it back to Amazon and got a new one? I've received 5 Prime tablets from Asus RMA department and all of them had issues. If you actually read some of the older posts in here when everyone was RMA'ing their Prime's most people had like an average of 3 RMA returns for one tablet. The RMA process just made it worse.
hate to be one of those "cool story bro" guys, buuuuut this seems to be an exception. haven't seen a bad rma experience posted in at least the last month. sent mine in for a camera and lcd screen mura issue and had it back in hand within 12 days good to go. they've gotten a lot better. also, have you tried using any other computers? if they sent it back and its still not working, have you considered that your computer might be messed up?
anyways, good luck either way! i love my prime and although asus kinda screwed up with some aspects of the tablet, i'm super happy with it. cheers

Yes I checked other computers and the tech support folks had me try that and a bunch of other stuff as well before giving me an RMA. The tech people were fine. I just think they didn't test it before returning to me, or meant to send me a replacement and sent the original; back by mistake. I have been surprised at this experience for I did my homework before deciding to buy the prime and it was rated #1 in most reviews.

Yes I tried all those ideas and the Asus folks had me check all those things as well. The port does work for charging, but is no longer recognized by a computer. It seems to have happened to a number of other primes too because I've seen other descriptions very similar. I put up one post where I asked people who had this issue and sent their prime in to RMA to report what Asus found when they completed the repair, but no one was willing to respond. I was going to report what the problem was when I got mine back but Asus didn't repair it, they just returned it..........
In all honesty, they received mine one week and was fixed and returned by the beginning of the next week. BUT, I can say that they did use some tool to open the case which scratched my freaking paint in some places I guess they figure just be happy we fixed it. In the paper work included in the return box somethings said fixed - void warranty, what does that mean.

Found a place that repairs Transformer Prime

i've had my asus transformer prime since it was first released.
haven't had any issues or damaged or cracked my screen.
i'm just very careful with my tablet, but i'm worried i might slip and drop my tablet and it seemed as if there aren't any people who were able to fix their prime for a decent price.
so i kept searching on google and ran across this place.
i haven't tried calling them since my prime is fine.
but i just figured i might share my findings and i'd like to hear your feedbacks on them.
i am not related to this place or work for this place, i just found the site. do not ask me questions about them i do not know.
if they happen to be a scam or what nots do not blame me.
BUT!! they do WALK IN REPAIRS if you live in SAN DIEGO.
so if you live in san diego and go an ATP with broken screen, try them out and let us know!
that is all.
thanks
they also seem to fix rooted devices a well. so try them if you bricked your device!

" We carry out a range of repair services, including damage and fluid spill repairs. We also perform upgrades of operating system (Android), memory (RAM) and hard drive, data recovery, Wi-Fi network setup, system checks /tune ups and more."
I think I want them to upgrade my Android to Jelly Bean, upgrade my RAM to a Bajillion Jigabytes, and upgrade my nonexistent hard drive to one that exists!
(For the n00bs, that was sarcasm and this company doesn't know what the fark they're talking about)

These are just 'laptop shops'. Normally they carry a number of common LCD's for replacement. They can do tablet LCD's at request.
That said, they are lifesavers when you need a new screen. Happened to me. Got recommended to a place just like you mentioned. Walked in, lappy LCD replaced in 20 odd minutes. It is a good service when you need it.
And that said, they will probably tell you anything to get business, there are load of these places around. Nothing new.
Do they improve Wifi, fix ANR's, fix the GPS or the IO performance? How about the LCD mura?
Hardware repair ………….$99-$149
Software repair/upgrade ….. $99-$199
JTAG specialized unbrick service ….$169-$199 Attempt ……..$119
Liquid Spill Cleanup …… $199-$219 Attempt …… $129
ouch $$
Seems cheaper way than rma still
