Galaxy SII - unable to turn on FW / Stock 4.04 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
wifey is using a Samsung Galaxy SII, unrooted and on stock firmware.
All of the sudden today the phone went off this morning and she was not able to turn it back on. She charges it overnight, but nevertheless she had to put in on the charger to be able to turn it on. The phone was sort of hanging on the launcher screen, one more shutdown and then everything was fine.
With the exception of the WiFi. She can't turn it on. Doesn't matter from where I try it. Status bar or setting, the button goes green for a second and returns back to grey.
Any suggestions what we can try? Otherwise we have to bring it to the service center :crying:

The service center option sounds good to me.
You might flash another stock ROM, or re-flash the current firmware to the phone.
And in recovery mode (shut down the phone, then press Volume UP + Home + Power buttons till the recovery menu appears), you can wipe cache, then rebot normally.
That will only delete the cache partition (and not your data).
Maybe that can help.
If not ... bring it to the service center for repair/replacement.
Good luck !

If it's never been anything other than a stock phone (I.E you've never run anything other than stock firmware/never rooted or messed with the phone), absolutely do not flash anything.
You've got a warranty, use it. The worst thing you could do would be anything that could void that warranty.

Thanks guys. For sure I will not root that phone or flash anything else than stock. All my phones/gadgets are on custom firmwares, but for my wife I prefer to keep it stock
Yesterday evening the wireless was back on, without doing anything. I found a thread related to the issue
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=28036
it seems that a lot of SII owners have faced this issue and it was hardware related.
For now I hope, it will continue to work. But when the WiFi fails once again, it must be the leaking battery, described in the link.

SGS 2 suddenly won't boot up

Hi everyone
My SGS 2 won't start anymore
I charged my phone, then went somewhere, used the phone, put it back in my pocket and the next time i looked at it it was shut down and i couldn't turn it on anymore, nothing happens at all.
theres no problem with the battery (it works on another SGS 2)
I rooted my phone and put lightning rom 1.2 on it. i had no problem rooting the phone and its the first rom since stockrom.
What should I do?
So you mean your phone won't boot anymore? There is no Samsung logo or anything?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
no logo, no vibration, just black
tried normal startup as well as "vol down, home, power"
Recovery vol up + home + pwr release at splash screen .
You can either try the usb recovery jig though this poster says it does not work but in my view worth a try.

Or take your chance and return the phone under warranty .

Did you try removing battery, replacing and then turning on. I had the same issue yesterday and this worked for me.

Tried many things and not working. Sending it in for warranty. At least they wont know its hacked until they fix it. Maybe they wont charge me...

So what happened? Did they work out that it was hacked and were you charged?

Samsung Stratosphere won't turn on, stuck in boot loop, please help!

My Samsung Stratosphere turned itself off sometime and now is rebooting to the Samsung logo, and then turning back off, and rebooting (a couple times earlier it booted to the main android menu, but turned back off immediately afterwards) and when I plugged it into the charger it acts like it's charging and then turns off and acts like it's charging and over and over again, even when the battery indicates that it's at more than half full.
Does anyone know what's happening? (no custom ROMs or anything, it's all standard btw). I took the battery out and everything and it still does the same thing when I put it back. I tried to do a factory reset, but the recovery mode screen always jumps away when I try to activate it (I press both Vol+ and Vol-, recovery mode screen comes up but goes instantly, then the phone goes into a boot loop again).
Please help, thank you!

Hi, I'd recommend sending the phone into warranty, add the phone isn't rooted, you can't do much.

Had same problem on 3 phones. This is a connection problem within the phone. Disassembly & cleaning contacts often helps for a while, but problem comes back. Bumping the phone on the side or top, often allows it to work properly, for a short while, and so does squeezing it, in certain places. Get a new one, since the problem will re-cur.

Grey Battery Logo Loop

Hi everyone,
Recently my Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 has started playing up.
When I power my phone on it display grey battery logo and keeps restarting itself in a loop.
I have two batteries and I use external charger to charge them up so I know its not a battery issue.
Not long ago my phone started going into Odin download mode often and I used to just Press Volume down + Home key + Power to get it to reboot out of Odin mode.
Sometimes it just boots as normal and I am able to use my phone.
In past my phone was rooted and I already tried flashing ROM few times to get it work. I have even performed factory reset few times but the issue seems to not go away.
Could anyone offer me any further advice?
The only way I can get phone working is if I always make sure its fully charged and never switched off which is not really a solution.
Thank you.
You require a service centre .

[Q] Stock Samsung S3 goes "True Detective" on me ...

I have been reading for the past few hours on this forum for this type of a problem that I have, found couple of treads, but not the specific one(maybe I've missed something).
My S3 couple hours ago went on 3% battery while I was getting up from asleep. Checked the phone for messages and missed call.
As soon as I've put the phone down, it made the sound like the phone is turning off. But, it didn't.
I was able to see that the battery is almost dead from the blinking of the screen.
Went downstairs to plug it in for charging. As soon as I plug it, the phone went off.
So, I gave it a few minutes to refresh the battery before starting up the phone.
After power up, it said, Not registered on network. Ok, It has happened a few times before, no big deal, a simple Restart would do it.
As soon as pressed the power button to give me restart option, the phone shut down immediately. No Restart option, no menu, whatsoever ...
Turned the phone up again, and this No Service icon pop up in the status bar. Nor, I have a key lock.
I have been reading the treads and solutions about the Factory Mode that the S3 goes into but my phone hasn't been Rooted, for sure, I bought it from the store, I'm the only one who's been using it, and all of the solutions are for Rooted phones.
That might be the reason why the guys with rooted S3 have those yellow letters on screen and I dont.
All the other "symptoms" are the same.
Mine is Stock, I haven't installed any Room, Root etc ...
I can connect to Wi-Fi, everything else is working fine, but, no Service, no key lock, No restart menu via power button.
Did factory reset, didn't help.
Begging for other solutions.
Tnx in advance
If you are unrooted then claim a warranty repair, as it sounds like your efs partition is corrupt after the unplanned shut down.
You try flashing a full rom Odin, it might enable partition to again be read, but won't make it any worse.
Your thread will probably be locked as it duplicates hundreds of other identical problems.
Check correct IMEI
Network IMEI EFS

But i would return phone to the vendor after trying a factory reset .

Is it possible to hard brick an android phone that has a completely stock rom?

My Galaxy Alpha was completely stock and I only had a few 3rd party Play store apps installed. I had not done anything to the phone, no rooting (was unlocked from factory), no odin, no recovery mode, nothing.
I charged my phone overnight and used it when I got up. I left it on top of my bed and left the room.
I came back to get my phone and my wife said she found it under the blanket and that is was warm.
I looked at my phone and I saw the blue notification light was on. I hit the power button to turn the screen on but the screen did not respond. I reseated the battery but my phone is a brick.
Wifi was on and the phone was set to only update firmware on wifi but my phone was also setup to kill wifi if the screen was locked.
I will get a new phone but I would like to get my stuff off of my old phone.
Thanks!

Looks Like A Hardware Damage :/ Probably problem in display (Completely Turned Off) Due to short circuit or may be another reason but i am sure it is not a software side problem
