I am having issues installing any ROM on my DX2.
I rooted via ezSBF on 2.3.4 and i cannot flash any ROMs. I have root access (verified with root checker).
I've tried to flash almost all of the 2.3.4 ROM's available and i keep getting the error:
"set_perm: some changes failed
E:Error in /sdcard/cm-10-20121007-UNOFFICIAL-daytona.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted."
That's the error i recieve with CM10 A2, but it happened with AOKP, PA, as well as others too.
So i really don't know what's wrong, maybe my phone doesn't have the correct permissions set?
Any helpful advice/comments are appreciated.
Thanks in advance. :fingers-crossed:
Make sure you are using the right Bootstrap file. There are two. One for stock and I think Eclipse uses it. In the CM7 thread, there is a Bootstrap specifically for CM7. This is also the one we use for CM9, CM10 and all other ROMs based off those.

I'm on stock 2.3.4, would i still need to use the one for CM7?

I have read that you can use the CM7 Bootstrap for everything. But the way I do it is I use the Regular Bootstrap when I'm on stock (usually after an SBF) and switch to the CM7 one after flashing a ROM. I just keep both apk files on my device at all times and instal the one I need based on what ROM I am on.
---------- Post added at 03:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:13 PM ----------
I just realized you are on stock now so the regular one should work. Try the CM7 one anyway and see if that works for you.

As do I, but recently i haven't been able to flash anything. :crying:
BTW. Pete's Root Tools, Motorola One Click, and Zergrush never grant me root access and i have no idea why.

Do you make sure to turn USB debugging on and check "unknown sources" in settings before running them?
Yes sir.
The only way i've been able to obtain root is via ezSBF and (ironically) it uses zergrush to root the device.
I haven't been able to root it with just the .bat file.
Have you tried to sbf in rsd and then use the magic md5 iso?

I've never used the magic md5 thing. I always SBF then root with the 1 click root tool. Use the regular bootstrap and wipe cache, dalvik and data then flash a ROM. It has always worked with no issues for me.
Yeah that used to be me until the one click tool, pete's, zergrush, etc. all stopped working for me.
I was flash-crazy, now i'm just lucky to even get my phone rooted at all.

I have had the X2 for roughly 3 months and am now at the point of wanting more from the phone. I have been attempting to root using gingerbreak, enabled debugging and have attempted root 3 times giving 15 minutes for the program to complete root each time. After each time would fail I would reboot the phone to give a fresh start and verify that I do not have superuser. Each time I am left with Gingerbreak continually stating that it is rooting and running exploit yet it never moves forward.. no reboot.
Ideas?
Second question: Can someone please lay out a clear path to applying a new rom on this phone. I previously used the Eris which while it was a pile it would root and rom in 5 steps all of which were clearly outlined in one Thread. Is there a thread like this that I am just not finding? It as I read through the forum it seems like this has gone rom a 5 step process to a 50 step process involving a home computer and 7 different programs.
Can someone clear this up for me?
If u are on android 2.3.3 u can't use gingerbreak. Gingerbreak only works for x2 on froyo(2.2.2)
U need to use petes one click method for rooting Motorola devices running gingerbread .
I am indeed on 2.3.3 I will give that a shot.
Any idea on the second question?

U will need the system recovery apk that was ported from the ATRIX for now to flash roms. Pretty much just download the zip for rom. Place zip on external sd card.
boot into bootstrap recovery((we have a REAL one on the way from koush but for now the ported world just fine u just NEED to be PLUGGED INTO THE WALL as if u r charging for recovery to come up)
Then go to install zip from sdcard. CHOOSE zip from sdcard. Press yes to install. BE VERY PATIENT. DO NOT UNPLUG PHONE UNTIL ALL DONE AND U CHOOSE REBOOT SYSTEM.
then again be very patient as it will take a while to load the new system while booting. I can sit at the bootanimation for a long time. DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY unless u wanna screw it up.
But before installing any roms first make your nandroid by going to backup/restore ams choosing backup. I always put it on my external sd card. This way if u don't like the rom u can go back to where u were before by choosing restore instead of backup.
And it's usually a great idea to wipe data/cache from recovery before flashing also.
Hope this helps.

I would also recommend looking around the droidforums.net x2 section for some info on flashing. There are a lot of stickies there but I like this site better. More active over here usually.
I don't know what info is in the development forum here but it may be helpful if it has been updated. I never looked at it really. Good luck. Stay informed. Don't.do anything u aren't sure of unless u wanna learn how to sbf(which u should learn anyways just in case...its fairly simple)
Edit: ignore.

Has anyone been able to get the update from Motorola after using the one-click update?
Have tried several times but unable to keep the file. Is there a download for the update that can be saved prior to the install?
look in the development section

Basically, use RSD to flash the SBF directly. You will lose root in the process, but you can run whatever rooting method you used again to get it back.
Hmmm... Mine upgraded just fine. I had origionally used the one click Root. Granted i lost root when I upgraded but that was just one more click after the upgrade.
Thank you for the website location.............I will try it.
BTW, what does SBF mean?

System Binary File.
BTW, RSDLite is very easy to use no matter technical skill level
SBF the earliest file, I will add a link to the post where I was able to fix this from, you will here a lot of people think you uninstalled a system app. Chances are, you didn't. I will post the link by 3:00pm Eastern Standard, it is 6:52am in Connecticut, so I am barely awake, lol.

You have a faulty phone.
I am at work right now, just reading my personal emails and saw a new comment on this thread. I will post more information when I get home at about 5pmEST, I have more info. It is 1:30pmEST now.
Edit: It is 5:27pm EST, sorry about the delay. Try what KTT16 said. Reflash the oldest version of a sbf, Version: 4.5.1A SUN-154_5-CM.
Let us know your results.
Wipe data, re flash sbf is what I do to get out of trouble. Youll probably want to back up apps and data first.

I can flash other other roms with no issue so i dont think this is a faulty phone at all. I do have the 1.3 oc kernal running also.
I had a faulty phone that wouldn't SBF, so I figured you did.

I was just told that Motorola has just fixed the issue so now everyone can update.
PLEASE TRY TO UPDATE AGAIN.
IF NOT PLEASE DO A FACTORY RESET THEN UPDATE TO THE LATEST VERSION.
Let me know your findings, then if that doesn't work do the sbf.

I had to SBF this way, but read the comment from user: "tbhausen".
He writes: Motorola has re-issued the 198_6 build to address this problem. Also, 198_7 is available in the MoPho dev subforum
-----
Try what I wrote in my last post, if that doesn't work, try the instructions in the above link, these are the same instructions I gave you earlier, just a more detailed version.
ok so this my make me sound like a noob but if i do a factory resett thru the phone will it remove my custom rom or should i do it thru cwm?
You aren't that that much of a noob, lol.
You will lose your Rom anyways, so after you SBF or Factory Reset, everything will be gone, and you will have to start all over again.
Yes, throught CWM.
By the way, even as a seasoned Senior Member, I still find myself asking noob questions on occasion.
So download the update put phone inti cwm and clear cache and data factory reset then let update go? Thinking out side the box
First you should do the update.
If it fails,
CWM factory reset.
If that fails, SBF then update.
Post your findings.
okay so i was rooted before the ICS OTA and used voodoo but that failed.... it says i have a protected backup and when i try to restore it, it says successful but it is not, and the little box saying if i have root access never becomes checked. so is there a way to fix voodoo and retrieve my root that way? if not, how can i root my razr maxx? ive heard about matt's tool 1.6 or something but i CAN NOT find it! the site it is on blocks it from non-members but when i tried to become a member, it wouldn't accept my login creds. so i tried again and again with different emails and it just wouldnt work so its safe to say im pissed and tired of that site. please advise? or link me?
and on another note- what is the best way to install a custom rom with the razr? i did it with my old D2G but i want a refresher. and also any suggestions on good roms for it? 99% stable please haha
thank you!!!!!!!!
If you're already on ota ics, and rootkeeper apps aren't restoring root, then I would try a fresh root method.
As far as Matt's utility, you'll be able to find that at droidrzr.com. There are different versions, so I would suggest reading up on which ones do what to see which one suits your needs. I used version 1.7 to pre-ota my maxx, but haven't rooted because I haven't felt the need to. One of them (or maybe all) can be used to root ics.
As far as what rom to choose, all I can say is try a few out and see which one works best for you. There are a couple good ones, but with devs being so limited on what they can put together, nothing will be absolutely perfect. I would recommend safestrap recovery because it works in a way I haven't seen other custom recoveries work before and it seems pretty solid to me. Used it on my last maxx, this being my third because of my job now ruins my phones (welding).
Hope this helps.
EDIT:
Can anyone post any links for alternative download for Matt's utils. I just went to the site and like this fellow said above, its not letting me in either, though I've logged in there plenty of times before.....
Strange. :-\
EDIT2:
And safestrap is an app you can download from play that will install the custom recovery for you after you have achieved root. ;-)

An option is to use Bootmenu (by Whirleyes) to setup a second system (webtop). To use it you need to be on ICS and more info can be found on this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720351
The benefits of it is that you dont affect your mainsystem, so you can always go back if a rom gives you some troubles.

Hi,
I have an XT 910 and its system version is 672.180.41.XT910.Retail.en.EU and it's running ICS 4.0.4
I was given the option to update by motorola but i couldn't, it just keeps failing, I thought it's possibly because I had superSU when I rooted my phone so I clicked full unroot, and super SU disappeared but it still wouldn't update.
I would like to either try to get the update to work, or see if I can root my phone again and flash a custom JB rom like Liquid onto the phone, but sadly have changed to a macbook and not sure how to do these things on a mac!
Any light shed on me will be greatly appreciated...
Thank yoU!

Emmm, it prompts me to download the file, then when it finishes downloading it prompts me to install, when i hit install, the phone reboots, then goes to the Motorola startup logo, then the android thing moving, then the bar under then android goes about 1/4 of the way and the phone boots back into what it was, when it finishes starting up it'll just say "software update failed!" something similar, no coding what so ever....so I'm at a bit of a loss!

Ermmmm, I ought to understand this but I'm not sure what it means. Where do I obtain RSD lite, and if I reflash it does that just restore the system to the factory original, or would I be better off trying to flash it to JB instead?
I'm personally not too fussed if I can just get the official update to work...

Google is your friend. The reflash does restore the system files, you need to update to jelly bean from ICS, because the fastboot files for jelly bean are not released yet.

I know, i have been Mac and Linux user. But you need Windows to do that. Most of the things or programs are for Windows.
Right so I've got as far as getting windows, and RSD lite... i've got rsdlite v6.0
But I'm not sure which rom to flash, there seem to be loads of roms on the market but i just can't tell which one's the official update one.
I've found this thread that seems to suggest something similar but it doesn't seem to be a rsd lite thing...
would anyone be able to point me in the direction of the correct fastboot files I need? pleasee?
Thank you

I am new to the whole rooting process But I rooted my s4 and it seemed like it rooted fine but then I lost the root after restarting .After backtracking I found out that I didn't update the binaries on Super SU and if I try to do it now it says installation failed. When I reboot the phone the Android with the unlock comes up, but when I run root checker it says not rooted. Should I just start the root steps all over again from the beginning( can I even do that without bricking the phone) or is there a certain part of the process I should continue from safely? Thx in advance guys!
