Hello!
We have an ICS SGS2 phone here, which I believe has the official ROM
Baseband I9100XXLPS
Kernel 3.0.15.-I9100XWLP7-CL340913
The phone downloads the updates OTA (almost 100MB), then reboots, starts to look as if it is about to be installed, then boots back normally, giving an error message.
(screenshot is attached with the error message which is received).
Any idea what is the cause? how to diagnose and resolve it?
where is the screen shot ?
what updatre is it trying to install ?
The update maybe hidden installtion, in that it updates the kernal or firmaware files that user do not see.

Oops, apologies, It is because I need to click 'upload' after selecting pictures - very not intuitive upload manager...
The update is available again to download after the described procedure - I can keep repeating the same process...
It looks to me that your going to get offered LPT 4.0.4.....which is a pile of crap.
Jellybean should be out shortly anyhow.....
Do you mean the official JB update from Samsung?
Wouldnt I have to install this update somehow, before being able to install the JB update?

No, you can simply install the JB update whenever it becomes available. No need to get the minor 4.0.4 update.
But if you really wanna update your phone, why don't you just do what the pop-up message suggested? That is, simply download and install the update through Kies on your computer. It's just as easy and will probably be faster.

I picked up a used i9100m today and was playing with it and realized i'm still on 2.3.3
the phone is rooted and unlocked, does this mean i can't update it officially? if not, i guess i have no choice but to install custom firmware? if this is the case can someone point me in the right direction? the only mod i know of is cyanogen. also is there a glossary of some sort around somewhere? i have no idea what "flash" "odin" "root" mean...

Ofc u have a choice, U can allways revert back to Pre-Root and update officially, but im not sure if u can do that rooted, and u can install custom firmware if u want, you really dont have to, if u want custom roms (android OS) i would recommed watching inside the SGS2 Android Dev. and if u want stock back u need to flash the stock firmwares: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
But if there is anything ur unsure about or somethings u did not understand about my english please send me an PM
Official updates suck! It takes a long long time before you will see there's an update available via Kies.... So I wouldn't bother. Best way to get latest firmware is Odin (or CWM)
Yep. Use Checkfus & you can flash the official firmware you get from it with Odin.

well, i have an GS2 rooted (android 2.3.4) and sim unlocked with Galaxy S Unlocker.
if i upgrade to ICS when its released, do i loose root?
if I loose root, SuperOneClick will still work if my GS2 is ICS or do i need to wait to an update of SUperOneClick (to supor GS2 with ICS) to root my device again?
well, those are my questions.
thanks in advance.

1) Of course you'll lose root if you go back to stock.
2) Ask whomever developed SuperOneClick if it will work with ICS.

Or you can wait for an ICS custom ROM ...
Hi,
I've rooted my S2 with CF-Root 4.1 and I'm using a 2.3.5 SamFirmware ROM.
Can I just update over KIES when ICS comes out? Will the Kernel be replaced and what Files will be erased?

If you have a rooted rom, if I remember well, Kies won't update your firmware... You have to use ODIN...
ok so just to make this 100% clear (i am a complete noob and i always make stupid questions, so flaming is accepted )
I have a Galaxy S2 with just rooted firmware (XWKJ1). I used an insecure version of this firmware to root the phone following the Odin/CF Root guide. Also I am not using any custom made rom like CM for example... If I upgrade my phone through Kies when the ICS update rolls out will I be able to complete the process succesfully?
Also from what I understand if the update procedure is completed succesfully I will lose root and will have to do the whole process all over again... Is there an insecure firmware matching the ICS firmware that will replace my old one?
Thanks in advance for your help...

Unless the ICS firmware you upgrade to is already rooted, then yes. You will lose root.
Just try Resurrectio Remix v9.6 by westcrip. Its the best ics rom right now.

It was never guaranteed to be released worldwide on a single day anyways. Can you imagine the millions of I9100 users all trying to download the official ICS update via Kies at the same time? Their servers would have an aneurysm.
It would surely have been reposted for download though. Also, it was posted in various languages including English speaking Samsung sites.
I know that it is what it is and there's little point now, but I haven't had my ***** about it yet, except to my wife who is fairly confused about why this is such a disappointment for me.
Now I've had my little ***** attack about it not happening and will maintain it to this.
I dont understand why its such a big deal to get the update. Why not just flash a custom rom?

I've been squeamish after many GB ones had serious issues, for example we'd forgotten our camera when my second kid was born by cesarian and I had a sleep of death on the phone - was doing a Nandroid restore of stock 10 minutes prior to entering the operating room. It saved the day.
That said, I flashed a custom ROM right after that last post and it's been really impressive. I haven't yet found an issue with it. Everything seems to be working really well and the battery life might even be a little better than the GB ROM I was using though it's still to early to say.
I get annoyed with all the banners and the immediate back patting when there's a new RoM that hasn't even been tested, but just to answer the question some people might be asking about which one I was impressed with, it was Resurection Remix. It also happens, thogh, to be the first one I flashed that was a Samsung based ROM opposed to AOSP.
It is still annoying though. I suspect Samsung is merely manufacturing their own hype about this, intentionally, and that is irritating.
i've already installed the pre-rooted ics update following BluechipJ's video tutorial and the system version is 4.0.3 now.
but the tablet still tells me in the notification bar that there is a system update 4.0.3 available and ask me to download it or ignore it.
is it normal or that i've possibly made certain mistakes in pre-root installing?

Hi, i have an S3 and i want to install Jelly Bean.
At the moment i have my device rooted using: Odin3-v3.04_Galaxys3ii.com with CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4
Now to the question: How do i proceed correctly to update to jelly bean? And if possible, get root-access as well? But if that is too complicated i would happily settle with stock JB.
I tried to update OTA but got this error (roughly translated from Swedish): "Access to the software update service is provided to the user in the order they request it. try again later."
Then i tried through Samsung KIES. It finds an update but the program just freezes when i try to install it, not affecting the phone.
Thanks for all answers!

Ok nice! So given that im a noob and all.. Do i need to go to stock or anything before this or can i just load this in with odin and it will all work?
they flash in recovery, all you need is root and custom recovery, if you have those you are good to go, I recommend a wipe, but you could try without, if you find that you have problems with f/c 's then go back to recovery and do a factory reset

Hey,
I have official 4.0.4 ROM on my i9100 now, but minute ago it automatically downloaded Jelly Bean via OTA.
I don't want this update (it sucks, I had this ROM earlier and I downgraded), but it remembers me about downloaded software on the notification panel and via pop-up in 30 minutes.
How to delete this f*%$&* downloaded OTA JB update-package without root ?
Wipe or ROM re-install is not an option.
Please, help. :fingers-crossed:

Ok, I freezed an OTA-***** in app-settings, it works even after re-boot.
Hope, that 4.2.2/4.3 update will be much better than 4.1.2...

JB 4.1.2 wouldn't be so bad if you had done a full wipe after the update (you can always backup and restore stuff).
I have done full wipe... And JB sucks...

Well, you can always Odin a stock ICS firmware (avoid flashing 4.0.4 because of the eMMC BrickBug issue). :good:
I suggest you try a stock JB based custom ROM. Its really good.
I have donwgraded to LQ6 4.0.4 (sane chip).
I don't have enough time to try customs, so I'll use 4.0.4 as far as the 4.2/4.3 will be release.
