MMS and Group Texting Problems - HTC Droid DNA

Does anyone else's DNA not notify them when receiving an MMS or group message?
My lone gripe with this phone is the messaging experience.

Cannot send text messages Viper Rom
I read alot. I don't post alot. Wish I did because I have a legit issue and I cannot for the life of me get it figured out. I cannot send text messages on my DNA using the Viper DNA rom (Version 1.1.3).
Here are the specs if it helps.
Rooted and S-OFF
Radio is: 1.01.01.0110
Kernel is 3.4.10-dsb9938.Cubed.DNA.Stock.System.Write
Rom is ViperDNA 1.1.3

I have the same problem sometimes. I will get a text message but I wont get a notification. If i open my messages it will be there.
I am on Cubed + viper 1.1.3 S-OFF, ENG bootloader.
The problem comes and goes. I did a bunch of system cleaning (cleaning up unused apps/data, cleared cache/dalvik, fix permissions, etc) and the problem seems to be gone for now. But i can definitly tell you I was having the same problem. I suggest doing some of the above and seeing if it changes anything

I am from Australia and I have issues sometimes too running on GSM!. Things like failed texting and even calls failing because my phone thinks I'm dialling overseas. I resolved all of mine by changing all of my numbers to their country code extended file name. for example numbers in Australia look like this "0403045209" but I have now added my country code which is "+61" while using this code the first digit of the number needs to be dropped. In the end the number looks like this +61403045209. Everything now works perfectly fine.
If you are thinking to yourself oh crap now I need to go through and edit them all. The easiest solution is to go to your computer and log in to your gmail, up the top left you will see the "google" logo. Just underneath that you will see "gmail" click on this and change it to "contacts" - This might sound stupid me explaining it but it took me ages to figure this out lol.
I don't know if changing your numbers to their extended country code form will help, but it's worth a shot. For me, if I didn't do this, my phone thought I was dialling overseas. I think it is due to being Verizon, I dunno.
EDIT* I only needed to change "mobile numbers"

Carrier is Verizon. I thought at first I was cleaning to much. I run a very lean setup. Very lean. If its on the debloat list chances are that I have removed it. The problem seems to have disappeared for the time being. I did a standard reboot and called someone and asked them to text me and it worked. Perhaps the problem may have been the radio because I had just flashed it when the problem started.
All is well for now.
As far as fixing permissions... I have a question there. The recovery I use is CWM Touch and it has a fix permissions option, however, the Viper DNA rom also has a fix permissions in its tweak options. Which one should I use? Should I use both?

They both do exactly the same thing. The difference is, with Viper you will actually see the progress as each app is done. Give it a shot!

I pretty much assumed they did the same but I did the Viper one. I like the status and it keeps me from booting to recovery to do the work. Finally something I can do to be a little lazy. Ha. This coming from a man who 2 days ago had never used adb in his life. Now, thanks to the xda forums and research, I have achieved alot with this DNA. Official ota blocking, root, boot imaging, kernels, roms, s-off, superCID, bootloader unlocking... and I'm sure the list will grow and grow.
As stated before, I read a great deal more than I post. I know search is my friend too. Lol. If the issue arises again with the sms or mms problem I will be sure to post on it. Need to get the count up anyway in hopes that should I need more help I will be able to post where it's needed. But it's hard to post a question when so much is easily laid out for you and the development team is rocking out gold.

You never know. It's a possibility. Being a smartphone owner is much like being a true biker. Sure, you love your bike but you always want something more. Never happy with status quo. There is always something to research, something you want to add or do. Now you could get a mechanic to do it but the feeling isn't as good unless you do it yourself. And I have modded my motorcycle withing my capabilities, so naturally my next project may be my phone. I think I will practice with my spare thunderbolts first though. Lol.

I will get a notification, but when I click on the notification in the drop down, it will send me to the individual messages of the sender, instead of the group text, so I have to exit out and then enter the group thread.
Minor annoyance.

i have the same issue.

If you click on the notification between when you receive the message and when the MMS portion of it is downloaded(which is where the fact that it is a group message is held) then this will happen. It is to be expected.

[VENT] Sick of bugs in Sense/ROMs!

I never really write anything on XDA and I've been an Android faithful since the T-mobile G1 (the good old days!). I went from a G1 to the Evo 4G and eventually the Evo 3D. I've been rooting for HTC to come out as Android king but I can't handle the Evo 3D anymore. I've tried many ROMs and kernels but I have 3 main issues that just broke the straw on the camel's back:
1. Whenever I try to send a tweet using the official Twitter app, I always get a force close! I've gotten in the habit of using copy/paste to write out my tweet, copy, wait for the FC, open Twitter app again, and paste, with the hopes of having my tweet eventually sent. I'm a twitter addict, this is killing me!
2. Whenever my phone gets an incoming call, I can hear my ringtone and the phone's screen lights up, but the screen is black! This means that I can't see who is calling me, and I am unable to pick up the call. I have to use the power button to hang up on the person and try to call them back. Basically I can't receive calls.
3. This is a common issue with all Sense ROMs, but the Messaging app never shows an accurate "unread" messages count. If I read and reply to a text message and return to the "All Threads" screen on the messaging app, the thread still shows that there are unread messages. This is the most frustrating thing in the world! I have tried installing the MMS.apk from CyanogenMod, but if I attempt to install that in a Sense ROM I get a FC every time I try to send a text.
I tried to love this phone, I really did. The hardware is amazing and the phone is super fast, but I can't put up with these bugs. I have tried using SupraROM, Synergy, and WildShooter with the Silverneedle, Ziggy, and AnthraX kernels. I'm done with trying different ROM and kernel combinations. I really miss my Evo 4G with CM I didn't come here expecting solutions, I just really want to vent. I wish the Galaxy Nexus was coming to Sprint!
Sounds like you didn't wipe everything.

1. To fix this problem, go to settings>applications and clear data for the Twitter app. This should fix the FC. If not, uninstall it and reinstall. I had the same problem and that fixed it. If you can't uninstall it using either the market or Settings>applications, use a file manager and go to /system/app/ and find the Twitter.apk and delete it there.
2. I personally haven't had this problem but many have with custom ROMs, I believe both Eternity and Warm TwoPointThree have this fixed now (as well as many others I'm sure). Do a search, I've seen this all over.
3. This used to bother me as well. It is frustrating. I have found no solution. I just made myself get over it because I like the Sense 3.0 Mms app so much, but sounds like you don't have a preference since you tried to replace it, so maybe try GoSMS, Handcent SMS, or any number of other SMS apps on the market.
Good luck!
The only time I ever experienced #2 was when I was running Warm twopointthree with Tiamat kernel. Switched back to the tweaked stock kernel included with warm and haven't seen the issue since. All in all, Warm twopointthree is pretty much everything I could ask of a rom- fast, stable, SVN access to update without requiring a full wipe whenever I get a spare moment, and most importantly an absolutely stellar team of devs behind the scenes.
P.S. wiping your phone when switching between roms is crucially important and can easily cause a myriad of strange and/or inexplicable issues/bugs/FCs etc. Just fyi if you weren't aware...certainly no offense meant
#2 sounds like a kernal issue only. Ziggy kernals were bad for me.
Why dont u use a completely stock rom? Its faster than any evo4g modded imo

try not using custom kernels for a while..ive experienced the same issues and for me,going to a stock kernel fixes those issues.im on Myn's Warm rom and havent had any problems.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the suggestions. Whenever I change ROMs I always do a complete wipe and use MyBackup Pro to backup/restore my data and apps. Its really a PITA actually with the storage constraints (16 gb SD card, full of data) I usually have to backup everything in phases and transfer parts of my backup to my PC. I hate waiting for the backup/restore and transfer time from phone to PC. I've just really grown frustrated of the evo 3d. This was kind of my goodbye letter, I'm meeting up with someone on craigslist to trade for a Nexus S. Hopefully that can hold me over until I sprint gets an ICS phone *couch*Galaxy Nexus!*cough*. It's been real.
Never had any of these problems.

#1 - I've never had a problem with the twitter app
#2 - I've had this issue when using the ziggy kernel thats why I don't use it (some ROMs use it)
#3 - I agree with you but I don't get a lot of SMS messages so I haven't had your degree of frustration.
So it boils down to #3 as the only real "issue". I did notice the other day that the lockscreen did have a SMS count. Doubt that helps you at all. Good luck with the new phone and I hope it doesn't have any bugs.. I don't know of any device that is perfect even iPhones have some issues.

I need serious help

I am done with ROMs. There, I said it. The fact is, that they are usually more buggy than the stock ROM, and they really tend to jack things up when you want to revert.
The last one changed the MainVer and I cannot seem to get the phone back to stock. I followed the instructions for fixing Mainver, doesn't work.
Tried to RUU and also use the PH98IMG.Zip from HBoot, but those don't work because the last ROM changed the Mainver so neither of those methods work any more.
I thought I had it fixed by using Scott's CleanFlash tool to push the stock kernel to the phone and it did work for awhile, but now my phone is stuck in a bootloop and I really need to get this fixed, I need to get it to do a real RUU and completely restore the phone to stock. I can then just root it and debloat it and stop messing with ROMs which frankly are never enough benefit to justify the harm and aggravation they cause.
So can someone please point me in the right direction to find a way to correct Mainver so that I can just restore the phone with the latest OTA version of RUU and then leave my phone alone and stop messing it up? LOL

I think I may have solved it. I think I finally got the Mainver fixed and RUU appears to be working, finally.
But I am still done with ROM's until an ICS OTA is pushed out. LOL

It's not all that bad bro.... ROM'ing = patience + experimentation + phone insurance.
That sucks you have been having so much trouble man. The whole change to a device with a only an unlocked bootloader along with the newer android version is really throwing Devs and Users for a loop. There is a lot to learn.
I hope all these events don't make you stray from flashing forever!
Sorry you've had such bad luck. My experience with custom roms has been the opposite. I've taken mediocre phones with buggy/laggy stock roms and turned them into solid, stable devices. Some of the features and extras baked into custom roms are so nice. I'm running Scott's Clean GB 1.6 and it has been 100% stable. I haven't had any fc's or reboots, and everything works. And no bloat!

Yeah, it really is weird. In a lot of ways, I prefer the DroidX and Motorola experiences I had. They may have an encrypted bootloader, but you could still install ROMs and it sorta helped keep you from messing up the phone, and SDLite always worked for me.
Part of me wonders what the ROM craze is all about. I mean, I fall into it myself, but then I ask myself, why do I do this? I have yet to see a ROM that runs as well as the stock one, once you root and debloat it. Sure, some of them look nice, but when you see what bugs there are, how many things don't work, and then the issues that can come up when you have to revert... I dunno... I start out all jazzed up and then more frustrated than ever when they just never seem to work properly...

I think some of the issue seems to be how much you need all the parts to work flawlessly for work. As far as my usage and what apps I use, I really can't complain about any of the builds. I just text, surf, browse the internet and play games and music. I never use exchange, blue tooth and those seem to be the biggest flaws with the leaks. So for me the experience is totally different. I think it really all depends on the users needs obviously. To bad you can't get work to spring for one phone for you and then you can have your personal phone to play with
But even the stock ROMs piss me off. I just did an RUU, unlocked it, rooted it, tested to make sure SU is installed and updated, and neither TI pro or ROM Toolbox can freeze my bloat apps. And Scott's CleanTool was never updated to work with the latest OTA, so I am left wondering how the hell I am supposed to disable all this crap.
There are definitely days when the iPhone and "just working" look very appealing... sigh...
I also think that part of the problem is that a lot of the apps and things are disjointed and don't work properly. There is no real checks and balances in the Androiud world, no review process. Any college kid taking a programming course is a "software engineer" and the results are that half the apps and stuff out there are hit or miss at best. It takes forever to weed through all the crap to find the one or two apps that actually work right...
This inability to debloat is driving me nuts.
This is what I am talking about, the plethora of **** apps out there that just don't work. ROM Toolbox, granted root access, go in and grab an app like Blockbuster and tell it to Freeze it.
says it is doing it.
Still says that 10 minutes later. Have to manually FC the app and then go back in and try another app. TIB does the same thing.
How the hell can you freeze apps or just delete them if neither ROM Toolbox nor TIB can do it?

Yeah, well if something can go wrong for me, it will.
I did a straight RUU, fully restored to stock. Unlocked. Rooted. Installed SU and updated it, and I cannot debloat any of the **** apps.
This used to work. It worked on my GF's Rezound last week, same OS, same OTA, same exact process, but when I do it, it just sits there doing nothing.

That sucks. I've had TiBu hang on backups and restores, but never on freezes. That's really strange. I would look for another app. You could try something like this. Just buy it and try for a second and then refund if it doesn't work right away. Just a thought. Hope it gets better for you.

Just buy rootexplorer and mount to r/o in system and go to app and either rename all the bloatware to .bak or just delete the apk's you don't want like blockbuster etc.. thats what I did and I am not sure why people freeze over renaming or deleting personally.
by renaming to .bak then if you like you can just delete the .bak and viola app is restored !

I was trying to picture the screen and was seeing the r/o at the top.. lol have to press that to change to read/ write to alter the actually files.
Tried that and even after renaming and rebooting, most of the apps are still in the app drawer...
The bottom line is that the last ROM I tried really screwed up my phone. I may have to smash it and get a new one under my insurance plan...

Now, that is wierd did you try deleting them or just moving the apk's onto your SD card from the folder if you wanted to keep them ? There is no reason this shouldn't work that I can think of .

If by revert to 2.17 with all features working (data, calls, 4g) then yeah we've been able to do that, unless you've reverted the VM lockscreen, SystemUI dropdown, and dailer banner, then It's been done.
Why not do the entire post after mothers day?

There are some people with additional issues, though it's difficult to tell if the issues are from trying to fix the banner in various ways or the firmware itself.
That said, some of us need to fix this banner issue. I personally intend to sell this phone very soon in order to fund my Evo 4G LTE. Sell price will obviously be hurt if the thing shows Virgin mobile.
I mean.....It's fairly easy to get back to 2.17 software especially if you are s-off.
The difficulty comes with getting rid of the Virgin Mobile banner and reverting the PRI. Then there's the intermittent 3G issues, and possible Wimax problems as well.

Lot more than a banner is f'd up.

While I would tend to agree normally for things like ROMs and kernels; this is a little different. People are currently replacing their phones over this issue. If he has truly fixed the problem, having this thread before he can get the full guide together and post it up as well as sort out any testing may stave off some of those people from getting rid of their 3d...that said...it probably could have been done in the other thread.

That, and problems such as: 1: receiving messages late and 2: sometimes messages won't send and even toggling airplane mode won't fix the problem until I reboot once or twice, maybe even three times....

Either he never flashed the firmware with the radio part or he is full of it when it comes to removing the Virgin Banners. I can believe he downgraded to 2.17. I have tested this multiple times. I broke my data once, and successfully recovered it. I am hoping for Unknownforce and Freeza to save the day. I donated my radio partition to Unknownforce which I am sure others have done so too.
Please close this thread and let keep the other one going, or at least merge it.

[Q] Any de-bloated AT&T sense roms yet?

I'm pretty down with the HTC One I just recieved yesterday, but the only thing that is bothering me is all this stupid junk AT&T stuck in there. The fact that I cannot tether either is a bit disheartening. I see there are a few ROMS in the developers subforum, but I haven't been able to check them out yet. Do any of those roms fit that description and if so, which one is the LEAST modified?
I've been using Android Revolution HD 6.0 from the international forums. Certain ROMs do work on our AT&T variants. It has basically everything that the standard Sense has, with tweaks. No AT&T bloatware. I've also been getting pretty awesome battery life. You may want to check it out.

Sorry, here's the link to the page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023
If you do decide to try it, make sure to read the entire original post before you do. There is instructions in there about using the volume buttons to select items in the Aroma installer. If you don't, your install may freeze.
I'm hoping we'll be able to flash our AT&T Ones to turn them into the same thing as the Developer Edition that's sold directly by HTC. I've been keeping on eye out for news of this becoming reality but haven't seen anything so far...

if you have an unlocked bootloader its basically the same thing as the dev edition. and once we have S-OFF we will be able to flash official RUU's to the phone
Would the De-odexed ROM allow me to remove the crap AT&T put on the phone? If so, this will probably be the route I'll go, well, as soon as I get my extra dropbox space anyway.

Can't you use the tool kit (in the Android Development section) to root and uninstall via Titanium? I've always done that with stock roms in the past.

Nope the System partition is write protected, so once you reboot all the crap comes back.
+1 for ARHD 7.0, running flawlessly. I'm totally new to Android and flashing ROMs, the ARHD dev and the threads over in the international forum make the whole process easy to learn. I played with the phone for about 2 hours before I became completely fed up with the AT&T claws dug into every aspect of the software, coming from an iPhone I had not realized how bad the bloatware problem has become.

Yeah, what really got me was that even after a day or two of using the phone, the AT&T Address book sync message would still pop up. I had already declined it and stopped any syncing to it. Then, to top it off, after I had already been on several long calls using the phone, the CityID message pops up saying that I'm now in a trial period? It made me decide to go ARHD without a regret. De-bloated, stable, and battery is great for me.
Also went with ARHD. Working wonderfully so far.
Everyone can flash Int'l ROMs with no trouble. ARHD is a great ROM with a great Dev. Give it a try. A make sure you read before you start complaining about LTE signal strength.. The official ATT ROMs fake your signal to make it look better than it is. The Int'l ROMs are the actual strength.

Thanks for the tid bit!! I'm thinking about this ROM as well. The only thing I really need though is Wifi Tethering. Do you know if it can do it without paying AT&T for it? I'm sure some ROMS will have it soon enough. I would even use FOXFI if it would work.
With the ONE I just can't seem to get around AT&T. I'm in the ball park like many others who think tethering should be free. I get the whole "you are paying just for your phone service" and not your laptop or ipad and such; I just don't agree with it, so won't ever pay for it. I'll pay for MP3's, I'll pay for Apps, I just don't think I should line AT&T's pockets for something I already pay for "DATA".
Ok Rant Over. I got out of control there. I apologize.

With ARHD you can turn on Mobile Hotspot and everything I just don't know if ATT will pick up if you're using it. I know with CM, I've used tethering and ATT never said a thing to me. So I'm guessing use it till they send you something.

I posted a ATT Wifi hotspot mod in the dev section yesterday for stock/rooted (deodexed or odexed)
Also - I may be off base, but as far as debloating is concerned, we should be able to do this with an updater script in a recovery flashable package where it's just deleting the packages we don't want. As long as it's done in recovery it should stick on reboot. If we want to start a list of what should be removed, I can put a script together to remove them via recovery and we'll see how it works. (Edit - Working on it now)
Edit: well it removed them from /system/apps, but a few are still showing installed. Guess we'll have to get rid of the data they've created as well? Still playing... either way i managed to get these out of /system/app/:
ATT Device Help, Address Book Sync, Amazon Kindle, CityID, Drive Mode, Family Map, Hot Spot (ATT's), Locker, Messages (ATT's), myATT, navigator (ATTs), Promo Widget, Ready2go, SmartWifi, YPmobile
Sill playing..
Edit: Almost there...
Running Renovate on my AT&T HTC One and it is great. You guys should check it out. Clean rom with AT&T bloat removed, great battery, and some great tweaks.

Here it is. A flashable package that will remove all the ATT bloat described above. Let me know if anyone runs into any issues, or see anything that's not getting removed that should be. I recommend wiping cache and dalvik after flashing.
Im running stock Odexed AT&T rom from JMZ found in development section with Thoravukks Kernel from international HTC one found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2229300 which allowed me to delete all of AT&Ts bloatware from the rom since the kernel Naw read and write. Plus Modaccos xposed framework which allowed me to remap the menu button to the back button by long pressing it. And let me say its running beautifully. No issues at all everything works. Plus i get to keep my AT&T signal icons which i prefer.

Yes. This can absolutely be fixed by flashing a different kernel. This is for those who prefer a fully stock experience, minus the bloat.

Thanks tons! Looks like all the AT&T crud is gone! Totally appreciate this. So far no issues.
And no bloat returns after 2 reboots.
Just wondering, is this 100% uninstall?

[Q] Specific ROM Help

OK, so I haven't posted much in this forum in general because I haven't had a need to really. I find what I need read and move on. But because of that I can't post in the developer section to ask this question before I flash this ROM so I will ask it here. So I'm going to take the plunge and flash Newts NOS m7 ROM. But after reading about 60% of a 949 page thread I do have some confusion. There were some updates and patches I'm going to call them for a lack of better term. I don't need to run any type of beast mode kernel. So what patches or fixes do I need to add in order for everything to work on this ROM? And I'm choosing this one over the alpha Sense 5 ROM based on data working with Verizon and not working with the alpha. At least nothing has been posted that it's working in all aspects now. I appreciate the help and hope that I can be rocking the NOS rom by tonight before I go to bed.
Really? No help out of 60 views?

If you install the full rom, you don't need any of the patches.
Well I have the full app plus a couple of the other downloads that are mentioned to have off the bat. But has the ROM download been updated with the patches that fix stuff? Thank you for your response by the way.

3.0.7 is the only thing you need to have as of today it contains everything, patches are minor small updates and newtoroot usually will tell you what patch you need when they are released.

So you are saying that the kernel patch, the call patch, and the other patch are all included in the 3.0.7 build and I shouldn't worry about them even though people are having issues with the ROM in certain areas such as what the patches fix? I'm asking for clarification because I can't afford to screw up my one and only phone. Besides Viper Rom this Nos 7 Rom seems to be the best out there for what I want until the update comes out. This is me being cautious and doing my research. I don't want to sound like a jerk. Just trying to have everything lined up right.

All you really need to worry about if it says full Rom or not. If it is a full Rom flash it after that there is nothing else to do.

Thanks for the help. I should just take the plunge but like I said before I'm just trying to do all the research that I need and to be as well read on it before I just jump into something. I'm not a first time rooter or flasher of ROM's. This one just has me timid because even the latest posts in the thread of the ROM is saying there are data issues. So I hope you can see where my concern is coming from. I'll flash it tomorrow and see what happens from there though.
OK, so I just took the plunge and did the flash. One problem I have right off the bat is that Gmail keeps closing and failing. I can't have that because all of my most important e-mails come in thru that. So is there a fix or do I just have to go back to stock?

You won't get any help if you don't tell us what you did..... I have never heard of ANY rom that gmail doesn't work.
and YELLING AT PEOPLE DOESN'T HELP EITHER.
Well, it wasn't meant to come out as yelling. And I didn't do anything but install the ROM just like everyone kept telling me to do. Oh and the weather on the lock screen is broke too. It always says no weather data available.
Well nothing like feeling even more of an ass. I never saw the replies I had already gotten from you guys. I guess my page wouldn't refresh. I'll wipe it and re flash it on I guess. I did all the stuff I needed to do before flashing it so I"m in the clear on that one. I'm not sure as to what all the extra apps that I've never seen before are but I'm ok with that for now. Oh, um isn't there suppose to be a swipe screen to wake feature on this ROM? I can't find it.
So G-mail is back to working now. I reflashed the ROM and did a cache and dalvik cache wipe. I also did the lock screen patch and volume to wake patch. I still don't have weather on the lock screen though. And the little click sounds that are turned on for me for when I unlock or lock the screen....yeah I can't hear them.
So, everything works now. Go figure....well minus those sounds that for some reason I actually really really liked having turned on before I flashed this. Maybe they will just start working again too.

So, in other words, all of your problems were self inflicted.
Do the flashing process properly next time and you won't have these issues.
Nope not self inflicted. I did the flash exactly the way I was suppose to. Not sure why flashing it a second time worked but it did. Now to figure out how my nanddroid back up got deleted.....or if it's just hidden and I don't know where it is. I use TWRP recovery by the way.
