Hello all,
I was just wondering what your impressions were re, the most stable ROM out now, the one with the least issues. Is there one that seems to be most hassle-free? I'm not nessasarily looking for a lot of bells and whistles...
Thanks!
Used to enjoy Theory's ROMs but felt that every few weeks he'd discontinue a ROM and release a new one. If you want a sense ROM that has a good following, I'm gonna be taking a look at SynergyROM, or if you want a non-sense ROM (AKA AOSP) I'd go CM7 (CynergyMod 7).
I'm aosp fan personally. I've used Cyanogenmod extensively, as well as Omgb. I'm currently running TheROM V4 and it is rock solid stable and very responsive. Not many bells and whistles. Just vanilla gingerbread.
It depends on what you want aosp or sense
For me I'm an aosp girl I'm running cyanogenmod 7 v1.7 loving it and. Ill give the kernel I'm using for battery life
If I don't want aosp anymore I always go to. http://teambamf.net/
I love das bamf! or if not go to http://themikmik.com/forumdisplay.php?1004-HTC-Thunderbolt-Developer-Forum I personal really like chingy's roms
I don't like Droid theory just saying
If you like sense, I really like Chingy's Gingeritis 3D.
Second vote for Gingeritis 3D. Stable and great battery life if you just use better governors.
Definitely the wrong forum, bro.
been rocking cleantheory to shiftsense for the past two weeks. both have been rock solid. DT is stopping development though, so take it for whatever that means. i think at some point all ROMS eventually lose development. hopefully whatever you choose is good enough for your daily driver if you dont like flashing over and over.
ShiftS3ns3 by DroidTho3ry rocks - give it a shot.
I think I'm going to give Gingeritis 3D a try. I'm not a pro at flashing new ROMs... i've only done it once (running BAMF 1.3 now). Is there anything special I should do? Is it just like flashing the BAMF ROM? (can I do it from ROM Manager?)
Thanks!

DT mentioned that he's taking a break, so hopefully he won't be gone too long. His work is better than stock.. HTC ought to hire him and get out of his way.
If you want Sense ROM, can't go wrong with SkyRaider Preview 2 or ShiftS3NS3.
If you want AOSP based ROM, SHIFTAO5P hasn't given me any problems whatsoever.
If you can live without the 3d, skyraider preview 2 is rock solid.

FWIW, I have been pretty pleased with the Synergy ROMs and I'd be running one now but...... I was one who fell victim to either the ROM Manager update or the CWM update and now cannot restore any of my backups. I tried various earlier CWMs w/o success and finally un-rooted, installed stock, did the OTA update and I'm back 100% stock.
I mention this because it's relevent to the question..... Battery life is good, the stability is excellent and, once customized to my liking, I really can't see much difference other than the "billions and billions" of crap apps VZW and HTC have added to the phone. If I could get rid of them I'd be just fine with the stock ROM believe it or not!
I'll probably re-root at some point and it's VERY likely I'll go back to the Synergy ROM because it works. I've had rebooting problems with other ROMs I've tried and I'm no longer in a mood to experiment, maybe later?
OK, it's later. I rooted, using Revolutionary, used Titanium backup to remove VZWs crapware and then figured why not? and installed the latest Synergy ROM.
I guess I just can't live with a non-rooted phone for 24 hours..... <sigh>
i keep trying out different roms all the time(sense & aosp based) and find that i'll keep going back to Synergy. it seems the most stable just i having issues with settling with just one rom.
Everyone has a different opinion on what stable is. I think CM7 is plenty stable, but there are those that disagree for whatever logical/illogical reason. Mainly, if you aren't prepared to encounter issues either brought up by your own experimenting or those of the ROM developer, I would stay with what the phone came with and be happy you have a phone that (sort of) works
If you are more brave, then read on.
If you read the comments about most ROMs, there is no such thing as a 100% infallible, will never ever let you down, stable ROM. ROMs are generally bleeding edge and users accept the fact they may have bugs in exchange for the phone doing more than what HTC and verizon allowed them to do. However, ignore most comments, because those are generally just people that screwed something up either knowingly or unknowingly. Like people that go the the hospital (for those that have family members that work at one), not everyone is ready to admit they did something stupid and have it on public display

Skyraider with Ziggy's kernel is EXACTLY this. It has average to good battery life though. Everything works, including it being compatible with call recording and incredicontrol (voltage control app). It also has the notification tweaks that no one has quite duplicated and I have grown to love.
I find Synergy to be an excellent rom as well, but the themes available do not suit me at all. It does support everything with good battery life and also adds HTC Hub which is awesome. It also has DConfig, which I just have not gotten a great benefit from but I guess some might.
The theory sense rom was smooth as silk, and seemed to be a happy medium between the first two I posted.
Chingy's rom is VERY slick, but very vanilla. The fact that it is Odexed makes theming harder I think, but for me that means I cannot replace the HTC browser with the AOSP one, and I HATE THE SENSE BROWSER lol.
ALL AOSP roms seem to have squashed most of the crappy battery issues and get great battery life now. This added to a FAR FAR FAR better bluetooth stack for better use with wireless devices like Jawbone, AND compatability with PS3 hardware make them an awesome choice. The ONLY problem is the lack of reliable network location. This means google maps works perfect, but your web browser can and will put you across the world sometimes, as well as weather apps etc. This rules it out for me for now.
Hope that helps
Shifts3ns3 has been the best for me, while I liked synergy, it had more bugs and seemed much slower to me, shift has the useful 3.0 features without the slowdown of a full sense 3.0 rom

Experts out there. Looking for your opinion and preferences.
I am currently running BAMF's SoaB ROM with Sense 3.5. I started having some Sense restarting issues, especially when returning from apps. So I decided to reinstall GoLauncher and haven't had any problems since.
So the question I have is this. (I have only recently rooted, so I am a noob)
If I don't really plan on using sense, and I don't really miss the sense widgets, are the AOSP roms faster in terms of screen transitions, opening apps, closing running apps, memory maintanence, power consumtion?
Is it better to have Sense or give AOSP roms a shot? Or should I find a Senseless ROM?
Reason I have not just gone and done the instillation of anything else, it two fold. Time is limited to me (Mondays are my free day, so I am catching up on other things) and my wife is still unhappy that I have rooted and installed a custom ROM, so doing it again without data would really piss her off. Happy wife, happy life.
So any opinions, advice, recomendation, etc would be great. Thanks again guys and gals!
Whatever you do , do not flash ics android 4.0 its unstable.
My opinion if you like a lot of theming then go with sense 3.5/3.0
But if you don't care about the looks and just want a fast stable Rom go with Aosp roms they are faster

I found Sense to be difficult to theme to my taste, hard to change icons, fonts, etc. But using an alternative launcher I can go theme crazy! Thanks for the information, looks like AOSP 1, Sense 0 so far!
I guess what I ment to say was all the widgets look good on sense , but it might just be the Rom you Downloaded that causes the force closes. What phone do you have ?
Whoops, forgot the important stuff! Running a Thunderbolt. And the ROM was fine for a good month, and it seems to just be internet based programs that cause it to restart. When returning home from those like internet explorer or inbrowser, it flashes to the white screen then back to Sense. No biggie because I rarely have reboots now, and its still pretty quick. And battery is fantastic!
Then it all depends on your taste just read all the bugs when viewing a ROM. I'm running a sense 3.5 ROM and prefer if better then Aosp. Hope I helped.
I was wondering what you guys would say the most stable ics rom is??
Ive been using scotts senseless rom and its been ok just a few problems. before that i had his cleanrom but i just cant like sense that much something about it kinda turns me off..
what do you guys think?
ima add one more question to this thread.. Where i live my signal is finicky as it is but im thinking running ics has made my signal drop is this a problem or is it just me trippin out?

I'm running CleanROM 2.3 completely desensed and it's as stable as Gingerbread.
yeah i was thinking about going back to it to many system ui crashes and other lil bugs in the aosp roms is it updated to the 4.0.3 with sense 3.6?
&& how is it desensed?
I really didn't like the battery life on cleanrom 2.x or desensed. I switched to cleanrom 1.6.5 and getting nice battery life.
I found Nils business sense ICS to be the most stable. But the small pluses of ICS didn't make the cut compared to the battery life and ease of use of Gingerbread. Especially once the new wore off. Back to CleanROM 1.6.5 for me too!
All of the ics roms have the same root issues really- that being blue screen flicker, etc. I'm on nils currently cause I like his out of the box notification mods.
Ics rules but I think may go back to gb (until an official) for some issues that are irking me. Vid chat doesn't work on skype, gchat, etc. Can't crop pics or do certain effects in the gallery. Beats eq is not working correctly. Again, most of these are probs that follow all of the ics roms and the devs have done a fantastic job -but I may just end up going back until these talented folks get their hands on an official build. I think they've reached a point where there's not a whole lot left to do with this current build. But like I said, what they've managed to do with this early build is damned amazing.
i flashed back to clean rom and desensed removed everything and so far it seems alot more stables im not getting any word that things are crashing even when making calls like it did before not to shabby i say plus the gallery from the camera i was having that problem in senslessrom
You guys running ICS, can someone confirm whether the folders are the new ICS folders like the Gnex has.
do you mean the folders in the launcher? then yes if you have the stock ics launcher
I'm loving Business-ICS
The skins, overall stability is pretty awesome. The one huge issue is battery life. On stock, I had it to where I could get at average just under 2 days of battery with my extended (2750mah) battery. With this ROM, with almost nothing running, and leaving the screen low-use, and LTE turned off, etc, I still can't get more than 6 hours at BEST on a full charge! Is anyone else seeing this? Do I need to look at flashing to a ziggy kernel or something? Or is it just part of the leaked ICS that the devs have to work from?
I was getting 10 hours on my stock battery running senseless ics rom with a hour of navigation and pandora on pretty much the whole time (lte disabled) +texting+ facebook and what ever else and i was left with more than 25 %
I've been using Scott's senseless since it was launched its an awesome rom but alot of fc's figured I'd try tachi's senseless 4.0 (which is based off one if Scott's roms) with the USB fix and HTC mms fix and runs super stable best senseless ics I've tried so far. Sounds like there are some pretty good rooms on the way though. Feel free to try them all out and find what you like best though.

My personal favorites would have to be by NilsP, lllboredlll, and Scrosler. All are pretty stable roms.

I must echo that Tachi's 4.0 rom is pretty good (with the fixes). I can't wait until we get a fully working AOSP rom. Scott's are good as well (the CleanROM 2.3 is actually a bit better than the Senseless, but... has Sense).

Yes, I'm talking about the launcher. When I had the GNex and I created a folder, it showed the icons stacked on top of each other rather than the plain folder that GB has. So the stock ICS launcher on the Rezound shows the icons like the GNex does? I'm asking because I was worried that Sense would not have that feature.

do not get ics all are unstable and i bricked my phone doing this well my friends extra phone I had to wipe the phone completely clen and starting over. I am downloading all roms tring to find something that works again. but like all post ineffabilis is the only one that comes close to restoreing the phone. I will update later to see if I can restore a dead phone but leave ics only until offical update.
Has anyone tried both of these ROMs on the Amaze? I've read all 46 pages of the Revolution forum and several Energy. Both look like they meet my needs. But I'd like a good comparison between them.
My needs:
- Close to stock feel/look (like the blue themes)
- Ability to remove pre-installed apps/bloatware
- Wi-fi calling (must have due to my location)
- Better battery life
- A bit snappier
- Free tethering would be a bonus
I've read that some have experienced texting and mms sending issues with Energy and some say that Revolution is outdated.
I realize YMMV, but I'd appreciate a comparison between the 2. Thanks.

I'm loving Revolution right now... And I ran Energy since the day it came out.
It has the stock feel and way easier to customise. It feels better than the stock Rom I just came from.
They're both easy to debloat and deodexed.
I use my phone so much that I get roughly the same battery life on both.
Both ROMs are very fast and snappy.
I would recommend both... But I'm preferring ARHD right now.
MrMako777 points out a good point though in another threas. ARHD is 1.36 build so no WiFi calling, so if u need that, then Energy would be better (although I prefer stock rooted over energy)

Hmmm. That's a little confusing. On the Revolution Thread, it says that there is "improved wi-fi calling" (from Post #1, ARHD 1.1.0 release date 19 Nov 11). Maybe since I need to have wi-fi calling, I should go with Energy.
Have you had the opportunity to test wi-fi calling with either one? Any issues (notably, the sending problems with Energy or the lack of capability with ARHD)?
Thanks again!
Sorry... Revolution is identical to stock as far as UI look... It is built on 1.36 which the stock 1.36 didn't have WiFi calling. I haven't tested it on revolution, but WiFi calling does work on Energy ROM. There's also a modified messaging apk that fixes a time stamp issue with texts.

Oh certainly... Wallpapers, Ringtones, Sounds, and even lockrings can be personalized on ALL rooted ROMs... NRGZ28 just has a heavy blue theme on his Rom... On the statusbar icons, dialer, app icons... Etc...
XBoarder has a pretty sick 3.5 ROM also that I'm a big fan of. You can find that at android-dev.us.

xboarders sense 3.5 rc1.7, great rom (my DD) it's fast, stable, and had great tweaks. though it doesn't leave much room for themes, as m10tools for 3.5 was never well adopted.
for stock 3.0 with a ton of mods i recommend bulletproof 2.5, if ARHD had a current version that would be my go-to as mike1986 is a solid dev.
Good to hear about u liking blue... U will prolly be best off with NRG ROM.
I like the 3.5 (its called Sense 3.5 RC1.7) for it has 3.5 features compared to 3.0... I mainly like the snappiness and loon myself.
Here's what I do. I flash a ROM using 4ext. I backup its stock load. Then I customize. After I have it the way I want and am sure its running stable after I modify it, I do a another backup and delete the old backup. Then I format all partitions (except sd) in the recovery's wipe menu and flash the next ROM... And repeat

Well, this phone was really easy to unlock/root. The custom recovery has a lot of interesting options--I see how easy it is now to switch between ROMs when you get bored with one!
For those that are lurking and may be intested in my experience (b/c you'd like to try something like this):
- The "How To Root HTC Ruby" was very helpful. for the overall rooting process Post #2 was a bit confusing (I think there are some links missing). I basically went to the HTCDev website, registered, and followed the unlock instructions on the site.
- I used the Clockword Mod custom recovery (as opposed to what was suggested in the above post). A good thing to note is that when installing a ROM it says to do a reset/wipe, the author generally means through the recovery, not the device (I ended up doing both since I didn't know about the option in the recovery).
- Once the recovery is in place, adding the ROM is as simple as downloading the ZIP, copying it to SDcard, rebooting to recovery, and loading the ZIP. If I can do it, just about anyone else can, too!
- After installing the Energy ROM, I could not get the WiFi to work. Rather than read hundreds of posts, I did a search on that thread and found an updated kernel in Post #4. Followed the specific instructions and problem solved.
Now that I have been running this for a couple of days, only a few things that I don't like:
- Random reboots. Though I did have them on stock, they appear more often now.
- The HTC Trace keyboard acts much differently than on stock. For example, when swiping some letters, words I've never used pop up and choices that I expect don't appear. I presume it's because NRG customized it for himself.
- It is REALLLY blue. If you don't like blue, this is not the ROM for you! (Did not mean to rhyme that but if works.) Blue is my favorite color so I don't mind it that much. But because of the way he has themed it, some screens appear much darker than they should. Also, within the tray, there is no distincition between background apps (like WiFi calling, JuiceDefender, etc) and Notifications (package updates, email updates, etc) because the theme is so dark.
Overall, now that I've "got my feet wet" with this ROM, I may actually look at others. But this was a great place to start.
I got no reboots with Energy ROM. I've never gotten a reboot (unless I was testing something in alpha/beta stages) on this phone. And if u used 4ext recovery, you wouldn't have had the broken WiFi because you don't have to flash the kernel separately.
Sent from my HTC Amaze running Sense 3.5
i never had any random boots with any rom besides Bliss Sense 3.5 ( My FAV Sense 3.5 but was never released stable ............
Maybe I got a lemon device. Though I talked to a t-mo rep who has an Amaze and he said there are occasional reboots.
I may try another ROM and see if that helps but I doubt it will.

Hi...I'm new to the world of rooting and such...I rooted my Thunderbolt last week using the one-click program (found from different thread on XDA)...Now, I would like to install a more current rom since ICS is still not available. Also, I would like to improve this phone's perforrmace (I know it can do more).
There are a lot of different rom's at there and I am looking for something stable and does not cause any loss of phone features(very important)...The sense interface is nice, but I do not know what else people are using. If possilbe, something that is not an all day affair to download, setup and so-on.
Please give me some thoughts (I know this is very subjective, but most of you will have better insight that I do about what will work and the level of difficulty to set-up).
Also what happens to the phone when future updates are released from either HTC or Verizon??
My phone is Sense 2.1, Gingerbread 2.3.4 and Software(Radio??): 2.11.605.19710RD.
Also, will I have to worry about things like different kernels or radio upgrades??
I appreciate everyone's input in advance and I know there will be many thoughts.

HTC finished our ics build and we are now waiting on Verizon to decide whether or not to push the ota. If you're looking for a stable rom and everything works then try thundershed 1.6 or any rom with that as a base. They are all very good roms. I personally prefer sfkcm7.2. As for ics liquid ics is really very good and most of the issue with it are minimal. If a working camcorder is a must then its not for you.

Sidebar: Currently, my Standalone GPS Services icon is constantly flashing in the toolbar and draining the battery...only way around is to manually toggle off & on the service...This started after I ran v6 supercharger script...Did I do something wrong or does this script not work well with the Thunderbolt??
Thanks again,
ghdroiduser
The only thing I would suggest that you download is 4ext recovery. There is a thread for it in the development forums. It will replace clockworkmod recovery with 4ext recovery and it is all touch screen. You can buy the full version from the market and I will say it is worth the money. If you dint have titanium backup that is another that you should download. You can get a free version from the market. Don't worry about otas once you flash an aosp rom. That has been disabled in the rom to prevent bad things from happening. Most sense based roms have it removed to but if you get the notification then postpone it as long as possible and Google how to disable it. I know the name of the file that needs to be renamed I just don't remember exactly where it is located.

Agree with the Thundershed recommendation. It has been more stable than the stock phone with with better performance and way better battery life. Everything works including the wifi hot spot.

Thundershed is great and all the roms based off it are good too.
