[Q] Android SDK wont update - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, i'm currently developing a game that i wish to release on the play store; however i have run into a problem.
Due to my laptop freezing when ever it felt like, I purchased a new laptop for Christmas that is running Windows 8 [HP ENVY 1158].
Now I cant seem to get the sdk to download the updated APIs available because i get an error that looks like this.
"didn't let me post image link, check attachments -.-"
I've searched high and low for a fix from re-installing the sdk, jdk and multiple versions of eclipse, ive tried port forwarding, dual booting windows 7(which brought its own problems), downgrading java version i'm out of ideas and forums to search. if you have encountered this problem in the past plz help
Thoughts * i have a feeling it might have something to do with the newest version of java released Dec 12th, because the sdk use to work on my other laptop until i updated to test my theory out, and now it also has issues of its own now. Has me wondering if its a android sdk compatibility with the new java 10 *

I think that is java's problem...
Try using Oracle Java 7 JRE-JDK.
I use it with no problem...

Have you started it with administrator rights? On Windows 7 this error appears if you aren't running with administrator rights.

Windows 7 64 bit and HTC Sync

Hi,
I know there have been threads on this before but largely they just mention installing the Vista 64 bit drivers (done that). I'm running Windows 7 64 bit with the Vista 64 bit drivers and MCR 2.8 (although I was on stock and 2.2 with the same problem). HTC Sync on the phone just will not find it on the PC. I can mount the SD card with no trouble, just problems with Sync.
Any suggestions as to what I can do? Please feel free to direct me to another thread that I've missed so long as it's not just about the drivers.

In addition to HTC sync and the drivers, have you tried getting the android sdk? I know that I had issues with HTC sync finding my phone as well when syncing it to Win7 x64, so try following this guide here, it might allow HTC sync to view the phone properly. The guide teaches you how to setup adb-usb drivers which might trigger the application to know that your phone is there.
I had the same problem, turns out one of the task killer apps that I had been using had killed the sync process. Might be a plan to check if the same has happend to you.
Florida.
Hi Princedwi and Florida,
Thanks for the replies. I'm confident that my sync process is still running as I've tried numerous reboots of phone and PC so the task killer wouldn't have had chance to stop the process. However I will give it a go just to make sure.
Regarding the SDK, I'll try that when I get home. I used to have the SDK installed but then I did a re-install of windows and haven't bothered installing the sdk yet. May well work, I'll let you know.

Hi,
Ok tried it at home. The SDK isn't installing in the same way as I remember it doing last time. A DOS box flashes up and then disappears when I run SDK setup.exe.
Any other ideas?

2.0.18 is out now... should be W7 compatible -

I had to install the Vista 64 bits drivers twice to get them working properly. The first time my hero appeared as "HTC Hero ADB". Rebooted, connected to USB, opened notifier, selected PC-Sync and reinstalled drivers (always choosing the folder where HTC should be leaving their drivers). This second time it appeared as "MY HTC" and it worked fine then. So just try again until you see the magic word "My HTC".

Because from android 1.6 setup process has changed in SDK. Normally it opens a windows from where you can add the version of android SDK you want and install the driver.

Same problem here with windows 7 64bit. Not sure if it's related to java environnement installed (For example when i installed JRE on my win7 64 the JAVA_HOME env variable was not set, i had to do it manually).

Nope for now but if I found the problem be sure i'll post it here.
Ok I found the solution. My problem is that I've installed only the JRE but according to the requirements (developer.android.com/intl/fr/sdk/requirements.html) we need the JDK also.
So i've uninstalled the JRE 1.6 (64bit) I had, and installed the JDK 1.6 (32bit as i saw many ppl having problem with 64bit and android SDK). And it worked, I run againg the "SDK Setup.exe" and it opened the windows as intended.
I had the same problem, even with 2.0.18. what I did was install HTC Sync 2.0.18 (with the drivers copied in Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Vista_x64). then go to device manager, ADB interface, update driver, browse for a list of compatible software and choose My HTC.
after rooting it (although I'm not sure this is the cause) it happened now and then to fail to get recognized by the computer so I followed the same steps to update the drivers to My HTC.
I can't install HTC Sync 2.0.18, it gives an error about some resource file not found and closes. I tried on two different computers with the same result. Anyway 2.0.8 works fine here after I reinstalled the 64 bits driver until it was detected as "My HTC".
the same for me.
after update to version 2.0.18 my win7 64bit didnt find my phone anymore...

[Q] ADB on Windows 8

I've been unable to install the ADB drivers for the Nook Tablet on Windows 8. I get as far as browsing to the folder which contains the inf file after clicking on Have Disk... and I get a message saying Windows could not find driver software for your device. I've tried on two different computers.
Has anyone had any luck installing the ADB drivers for the NT? I'm running Windows 8 RTM.
question: why would you have windows 8...
whatever
If I am correct I heard you need to disable drivers signature checking by Windows (google it, shouldn't be hard) and then it works like 7.
get you started:

Because many people are allowed to have it for beta testing as well as corporate enterprise testing. It isn't pirated if that is the reason for the why followed by the whatever.
my bad homie, wasn't accusing you of nothing
but my reply did it work?
(Shrug) I didn't post with the problem I was just addressing what seemed like a possible disgust emotion brewing for having pirated software. Just wanted to set the record straight for those not in the know about Win 8's release status.

[Q] Android SDK install fails

Trying to install the most recent version on this new computer, after downloading the SDK and continuing to install, it isn't detecting JAVA developement kit, right after you hit next to install the software it goes to the next window saying it can't detect Java, and I'm certain it's there.
THoughts
Have you updated? I think oracle pushed a new update recently, they may have changed install path
think so
the page where it gets hung actually has a link to oracle, i went and downloaded package 7u7 for windows, I alredy had it on the computer anyway, that same window says if you think its on your computer go to environmental variables and put it HOME_JAVA which I did, and I still can't get past that window......i hate this lol
Hmm, well I haven't had a chance to set it up on my pc nor have I had any inclination to do so. My only source of internet is a sad WiMAX connection under 1Mb, the 3g in my phone is faster sometimes. Every once in awhile I get a little over 5 but most if the time its too slow for any sort of large files

I'm no expert, but your OS might be important information. What are you running and was the phone interfacing with the laptop before you started?
Major driver issues?

It's beyond me, I've seen and had plenty of issues trying to get ADB working with Android and windows, once I had to install Linux to get things to behave correctly. But a straight up crash like that is out of my league...You could try everything from scratch with a Linux distro?
I have slicked my computer running windows 7 while trying to get ADB working, to try and resolve issues that I probably created blindly poking around. They're some drastic ideas, but I'm pretty sure the issue is with your OS and not with the phone.
Have you tried all usb ports? Different cable?
Check the Windows event viewer for errors in the system or application logs, or maybe try a selective startup in Windows.

[Q] JRE in Archos Gen9 101?

Hi all, I want to have JRE installed in my tablet (Archos 101 G9 8GB + MicroSD 32GB Class10) in Android I already know it is completly imposible, but having an other OS is my option, I tryed having Ubuntu in chroot, with ''complete linux installer'' but I didnt used it so much. Then I installed Ubuntu with this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392167
I installed both 0.21 and 1.0 Beta (found in one of the pages, I dont remember what page), but I was having problems with multitouch, and then, I tryed Plasma Active 3, is what I have installed now, I like it because it is 100% compatible, works everything, but, I dont know how mer works, I dont know how to install programs, or if there is JRE for Mer or not, which is what I want.
What do you recomends? come back to Ubuntu and try to solve the multitouch problems? chroot? Plasma Active 3?
Thanks!
85 viewvs and 0 replys, being ''xda'' I expected somthing better.
I did some changes, with Plasma Active I cant install any program, I dont know what commands it uses, but anyway is a linux based OS for mobiles. I did chroot in Android to Ubuntu, and trying to install JRE says that my OS is ARM and dont install it. I supose it will happens in Plasma Active too.
I have one quiestion now, runing Ubuntu natively, I supose I will have the same problem right?

You will probably have it.
Natively or chrooted, you are still on arm. I tried some googling around, and people just told each others to use openjdk to run java.
Can you test it and report back?
apt-get install openjdk-6-jre
Browser plugin is called icedtea-plugin if I remember correctly.

Thanks for your help.
I tried it, but I installed openjdk-7-jre, and icedtea-7-plugin, because I need the latest version of java, but when I use ''java -version'' it says ''1.6.0_24''.
I have both versions, default one (6) and 7, using ''sudo update-alternatives --config java'' I can select what version I want, but if I select the version 7, It dont work. (says: couldnt open libjava.so)

I did not find direct fix, but you might get something out of this bug report:
