Hey guys,
Im having some questions.
Got a new phone and i am going to sell my S II to my uncle but he want it as it comes in the box.
-I am running Slimbean+Dorimanx and it has some reboot issues.
-Now i understand that i need to flash an original rom (and kernel?).
If you have to flash an original kernel also do you do that first or first the ROM?
-Is it possible to go back to ICS, or is this risky to brick the phone?
-And last will the reboot issues automatically be fixed with original ROM?
I've searched alot of post but can't find answers to these questions.

kidding, get a stock rom from sammy and let the flash begin.
Try not to flash a 4.0.4 tho, that's some nasty kernel.
you could also flash jb leak (don't tell him it's a leak), just tell him that is the latest SO for Samsung Galaxy S II and the newest devices fresh outta the box's got it. If he goes for it you can pump the price up and I'll get my 10%...lol

im a bit confused about that part.

3.flash odin

Flash the ROM first. Your phone will restart, but will be stuck on the galaxy SII logo. Turn off phone. Reboot into recovery (which will be the stock 3e one), and do a factory reset. No need to wipe caches, dalvik or fix permissions.
Edit: You can also boot into recovery from your preset custom ROM, before flashing the stock ROM via odin and perform a factory reset. It doesn't matter when you do it.
Also, please remember to keep re-partiton unticked and DO NOT use the .pit file if it is there.

Hello everybodies,
I want to give my Samsung Galaxy S2 to my mum after buying myself a nice and warm S3! ^_^
Here's what I'm planning to do:
1/ Wipe with CWM: /cache, /data, /system, dalvik, battery stats, sdcard and external-sdcard, so really everything!
2/ Reboot into Download mode afterwards and flash a stock ROM
My question is: can I do that? Or if I wipe all this stuff I risk not being able to boot in Download mode?
I'm currently using OlloS2 LPX based ROM.

it shouldn't give u any trouble
Download Mode is part of bootloader, so don't worry and wipe freely :good:
Thank you guys!
I know I could find the answer by myself, but I heard that the ROMs LQ5 and LPM have a chance to brick the phone. Therefore, which is the latest safe stock ROM?
U could tru any aokp based rom...they are all safe...
If not search safe ics kernel in search tool and u ll find.some post about wich kernel is safe and.wich not
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Thanks for all. I just flashed LPX and everything ran smoothly.
I did some research for a friend, that needed an ICS sammy rom and just for sum up, any ICS sammy version released or built befor july are safe. Since 9 of july samsung included the erease_emmc_cap lineain their Kernels. so...
the problem is triggered when u want to make a wipe/factory reset. if not u can use them without problems
Yeah I also read that ROMs LQ5 and above have a high risk to brick the phone if any wipe is used with CWM using the CF-Root kernels of these ROMs. Is this what you're talking about?
I've actually formatted the internal memory many times when changing ROMs. The bootloader and kernel is on a hidden partition.

Hey guys, need a little help here.
I know this is a silly question but still I wanna make sure, nothing goes wrong
I'm on leaked JB XXLSJ firmware and I want to revert back to ICS 4.0.3...So i just simply need to flash back the 4.0.3 via odin, right?
Because i read it somewhere, few people downgrading from leaked JB to official ICS FW had bricked their phones.
So i just need to flash the .tar file via odin or I need to do something extra?

What most suggest is to use a kernel without brick bug just to be safe, though many say it only occurs when going 4.0.4
When I went from LSJ, I installed PhilZ kernel where theres a function for a clean rom wipe (PhilZ settings i think its called)
Then after that to be safe I did the full wipe, cache partition and manually format /system and /data (don't wipe SDCARD)
Then installed an ICS rom again, its always best to do a clean wipe just to make sure because there will be differences between JB and ICS.
I've gone back and forth from ICS and JB many times now and so far everything is ok:good:

4)Reboot to recovery
5)In Recovery - PhilZ settings - Clean wipe for rom install
6)Wipe data/factory reset
7)Wipe cache partition
8)Mounts and storage - Format /system , Format /data, Format /cache
9)Install your ICS rom

Dont be a fricking idiot, That will brick his device. You forgot to tell him install custom kernel after flashing rom.
Just go back into download mode and flash Siyah kernel (.tar) and then you will have custom kernel and ability to boot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset. Once this is done rom should boot fine.

No real need to stay on 4.0.3 though when you can get rid of bug by flashing cutsom kernel on 4.0.3.

this is my wifes phone (I have a Note) I want to know what rom I can go to that is very stable , prefer ics :
Samsung SGH-I777
2.3.6
I777UCKK6
2.3.35.14
GINGERBREAD.UCKK6
sorry but I dont generally mess with her phone , she does have root and cwm touch 5.5.0.4 . There seems to be a wifi problem it turns on and then off , never sticking , I suppose wiping all might help , I hate seeming naive but when I mess with my own phone its all a chance , I dont want to just do that with hers!
There are a lot of stable roms. Do you want touchwiz based or AOSP based? I don't have an opinion on AOSP roms because I've barely used any of them.
For Samsung based roms, Shoman94's roms are very stable and popular. That's what I use as my daily driver. For ICS, use SHOstock2, but for the latest JB use SHOstock3.

If I remember correctly, I think that version of the Siyah kernel was put out by zedomax on GalaxyS2Root website. That kernel combined with UCKK6 was always a problem. In fact, that package was always a problem.
Anyway, the kernel has ClockworkMod Recovery. You should decide on a good rom, as discussed above, download the zip file and use usb to transfer it to the sdcard on the phone, then boot into recovery, perform a wipe data/factory reset, and flash the rom. It doesn't matter that you are on Gingerbread right now. You can flash either an ICS or JellyBean rom because the package will contain the complete system and kernel and modem, everything.
---------- Post added at 07:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:08 PM ----------
Enter recovery by holding down all three of vol + vol - and power buttons continuously until it boots into recovery. If it won't boot into recovery, then it might be a bad flash.
Thank you, I got the siyah kernel from a thread here, when I first got the phone (off ebay )it did in fact have the wrong kernel,I used entropy flash back to get back,I guess I did something else, but I will use one of the roms you mentioned ,glad we have you here ,I've been messing with wp7 the last few years and finally getting back to android (cept been playing with boot loaders in a500)

It is exactly that, a counter, and the only purpose of it as far as we know is warranty protection, so I would say no, it's not important. On the other hand, most folks don't like the splash screen with the yellow triangle, but you can remove that easily enough if you still get it on boot.

Ok, I purchased a Galaxy Note 2 (Verizon) that is already rooted and is running Jelly Bean's Build 4 by BeansTown106. Love it but want to get the latest and greatest Build 7 on it. I'm a bit confused as to what steps I need to take to do this. I know all the information I need has already been posted and I have been RTFF but I'm kind of lost as to what I have to do FIRST. I mean, it's already rooted so I'm not sure what I need to do first as most of the guides are for stock unrooted phones. I don't know if I have to go back to completely stock or what. Please keep in mind I am new to this regarding ROMs on phones so what may seem obvious to you may not be to me.
Sorry if this has been asked before but I did search and the only thing I found close to my question was from two years ago.
TL;DR
Bought phone already rooted with custom ROM, how do I "upgrade" to the newest version of the ROM?
THANKS!
Download rom, put it on root of sd card, boot into recovery, do a backup of ur current rom, wipe system and cache, install new rom, I wipe cache again and then reboot system. Done.

quick tip
going from one rom to another as in going from Jbeans to Coolrom its mandatory you wipe data, cache, & davlik
going from rom to updated rom as in Jbeans 4 to Jbeans 7 its not necessary to wipe data, (ive never had issues)... might wipe cache and devlik but not data
ALSO
probably best to download titanium back up to backup all your apps

I wouldn't recommend not wiping unless the dev specifically says not to. Some people may not have problems, but most do and its more work in the end. If you don't wipe don't ask why something isn't working or why it's acting up. Beans thread is full of people asking how to fix problems that are only an issue because they didn't wipe.
Follow up question that I can't seem to find a concrete answer for...I am unlocked, running Beans 6 on VRALJB (never took the OTA) with perseus 31.2. If I want to flash a VRALL4 rom (say beans 7 or Eclipse) do I need to do anything beside the standard of putting the rom on the SD card, wipe data, cache and dalvik cache? In other words, does flashing the ROM upgrade me to the new baseband, or do I have to do that first?
Thanks

Updating the baseband is separate from the ROM. Place it on your SD card and install from Recovery.
So I would flash the VRALL4.modem.zip first and then whatever VRALL4 ROM I choose (after wiping, etc). I am guessing after flashing the modem I would NOT reboot before flashing the ROM, correct?

Try to flash the rom but make sure to have a backup inside your phone just in case it doesnt works, you can take the battery off and plug it back one and then restore the backup. If that doesnt work you can always return to vraljb stock, update and unlock.

I managed to install CM9 on it but it says gapps crashed every time and it restart itself and repeats
Make sure you are getting a clean flash... wipe data, cache, dalvik cache.. and then go to mounts( in cwm ) or advanced( TWRP ) and wipe system ( format it in cwm )
Also make sure you have a good download.. that can cause many different issues... from boot loops to force closes.

Do you have a good download or a better rom or even a good md5 to flash to go back to stock?
I am having a lot of problems with this tablet, sometimes it crashes, it bootloops, sometimes it just freezes and sometimes I need to force restart it so much times till it boots properly because it freezes while booting a lot.
also whenever I connect it to the PC it seems to have problems.
It used to be my sister's so I fear she broke it
Thanks for the reply
@arboy2
You can find the stock rom at sammobile.com
Also.. make sure you have an ICS bootloader... almost all the custom roms require that bootloader. You can find it at pershoot's site and flash it with Odin.
As far as good download's with md5's go.. this forum doesn't seem to use them as much as most forum's. So what I do is download a rom twice and check the md5's against each other.. that's not the best way, as you could have 2 bad download's, but it's something.. lol
If you can't find the stock 4.0.4 ICS rom at sammobile... I think I have it.. somewhere I also have the ICS bootloader..
But if you're new to flashing and Odin... I highly recommend doing some reading and watch QBKings' video's..
I would also recommend(once you know that you have the ICS bootloader)that you use the infamous TWRP recovery.. it is the best recovery for this device ( I believe )..
ICS boot loader here http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/roms/cm10.1/p4wifi/US_LPL_4.0.4_bootloader.zip for p4wifi
