hello, i just got my tablet s today and this is my first tablet. i tried setting up the tablet like my phone but with a tablet i have more real estate per home screen so i'm only using 2 pages. but, my concern was the widgets, expecially the social feed ones. i got used to timescape so this different socialife app is kind of a let down. it rarely updates even though the frequency to update is at 5 minutes. and is it just me or does the wifi turn off when it goes to sleep? is there a way to get timescape on here? if not, is there some way i can make the socialife app more efficient? and i got to ask, this is my first tablet so i don't know the answer to this, but why are the widgets that are like huge on my phone, smaller on the tablet?

I've had my Sony Tablet S since the 12/12/2011 and so far have been pleased with it.
Recently though, I've been experiancing lag on the homescreen, despite a factory reset and using other launchers and it wasn't until I read someone's rather harsh comments about it's shape and feel on another forum today, it made me think about returning it.
Does anyone else experiance lag at all, I find that on the lockscreen, when you have to move the little circle across to the out circle, my device does this slightly laggi'ly and the homescreen at times can create lag despite not many widgets.
I've always bought Archos products, had many of them and wanted a change from their new G9 range after seeing a few issues, but with the terrible HD play back and lag of built in media codecs (Yes I know about the other players, but it would be nice if it was all on the default video player) that have I made a mistake in buying it?
The gaming performance on the Sony is simply fantastic, I cannot praise that enough and the Tegra support there, something the Archos cannot do.
Any example of lag, would be coming out of an app like Browser, The homescreen for a few seconds, maybe 5 top is very laggy and then goes.
Many thanks.
er, try another launcher?
ADW, Go Launcher, Launcher Pro....
I've had my tablet s for less than a week, and my experience was also a bit horrible (& my first android device), everything was laggy: lockscreen, homescreen, apps, etc... until yesterday when i checked the installed apps and it turns out the tablet came with 2 versions of the market app, ver. 1.x.x and ver 3.x.x (i have no idea why) but i uninstalled the ver 1.x.x and now its f%$# fast, i doesn't lag at any point (i suppose THAT was the problem & solution).
Im still using normal stock apps and launchers, but maybe you can check that and see if it works for you.
Mine is pretty snappy so I'd say you either have a bad unit or an app causing the problems.. Are you using a task killer? If so delete it immediately as they cause far more problems than good.. Android does a great job managing the OS and task killers often stop processes that are needed.
Maybe try another factory reset and add apps one at a time, use for a bit and if no lag issues arrise add the next app on your list.. Keep doing this until you find the bad or problematic app... If you have lag right after the factory reset with no apps added then you probably have a bad Tablet and I'd exchange for another as defective.
My .02
Weird, I have no problems at all, sometimes when it stas to be a bit laggy, I do a normal reboot, at all goes perfectly normal..

No problems here... I've had the 32GB version since September.

This phone ticked the minimum requirements i had when looking for a tablet.
Upon testing the display models of several tablets, the sony tablet was blazing fast against all of them. So from my experience, it is the smoothest I've seen or used.
Thanks guys, I'll take a look at several new launchers and task killers today.
I guess this subject might need some explaining.
My parents are going on a trip in a month and they have there heart set on taking a smartphone with them.
What they need is being able to call, text and mail.
They also want to be able to use it as a backup (just in case) for finding their way. So just in case they get lost to find out where they are on their map or use the gps to guide them for a little while.
So basically, calling, sms, mail and gps.
They don't need to be able to change a lot of settings.
So, I was thinking about installing their (yet to buy) smartphone with a simple home screen and the settigs they would need.
To keep them from accidentally messing anything up, I was wondering if it is possible to password protect settings and stuff.
So, does anyone have an idea on:
-how to protect settings etc.
-a good homescreen
-other things like very simple gps app for example
...
I know it's a lot, but any help is much appreciated.
Bada? Much easier than android...
But why do you think, they'll mess up settings?
I was just thinking that if they happen to end up in a settings screen or something they don't know, they might press something wrong.
But on the other hand... I just have to tell them to press the home or back button in such an event.
About bada... I feel stupid now,but i didn't know about it.
The reason for android was that I have an android phone and would at least be able to offer some remote assistance if necessary...
I saw the samsung gt s5560 or something today ... That interface lookes rather simple, maybe I should take a look at that.
Thanks already, more ideas are always welcome ;-)

'app lock' can password protect apps and settings from being opened. It's free on the market and works well.
I wouldn't password protect settings, that way they can turn GPS on and off as needed without running it constantly.
Google maps/nav should work fine. Set up a simple toggle widget on their screen, I suggest Widgetsoid, but there are others. Tell them what the settings do, or in Widgetsoid turn labels on. Flashing a rom with notification toggles built in would help, since they could directly turn on/off GPS and data without being taken to settings screens.
I would also install a launcher that will allow you to lock the home screen so they can't accidentally delete the widgets/shortcuts you've set up for them. Never used it myself but I believe ADW launcher can lock the home screen but there must by others.
I can confirm that adw ex allows you to lock the homsecreen, so nothing can be changed. If you buy a phone with touchwiz, then you can lock settings and use quicktoggles in the notification bar. I can't live without them now. On a side note:widgets could possibly simplify the homsecreen.
App lock and ADW are good ideas (I actually use adw on my tablet).GPS widget on home screen can be very usefull too. Thanks for all the sugestions already!
I got a mail yesterday that they have seen some smartphones they seemed to like. I don't really know them myself except that there's only one android phone (if my web search is correct off course)
The phones they saw:
Nokia lumia 710
Nokia lumia 800
(those are WP7.5 I think)
Samsung galaxy+
(only android in the list as far as I could tell)
Samsung galaxy wave III S8600
(This one is BADA I think)
So I might just wait for what they decide to do, a first look at them on the web seemed to sugest that they're all fine for what they're looking for. They all seem to have the possibility to use gps with some (free) maps as a backup and off course sending mail.

I have been having a problem with my Prime coming out of sleep. When it wakes, the screen starts blinking like it can't quit refreshing. This is not the same problem as others have had with the screen "tearing" in youtube and live wallpapers, etc. It just keeps refreshing until I reboot because I can't do anything else. I thought it might be from a widget, so I removed all widgets and it still happens. It seems like it gets worse from some widgets that scroll and update, such as Tweetcaster. I posted a video of the problem here:

If anyone has seen this or can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
John
Big trouble. Someone's hacking into your tablet. LOLjk but its probably a launcher problem. Get a new one and see if that works.

Anyone else having any of these problems or other problems? My home screen farthest to the right , whenever I add news or weather widgets to it they vanish after every restart,
When I first got this and it was HC my gallery loaded all my facebook mobile uploads into the tablets gallery, its not a big deal that its one but I liked having it there on HC
Facebook wasn't very good before but now its almost crippled
I'm using a Samsung Note 2 ---after doing some theming and homescreen setups I noticed it has lost its "zippiness"... now I have probably at least 15 widgets running on 5 different homescreens...I had a live wallpaper but disabled that...no real difference.
A lot of the widgets are from the UCCW and are just cosmetic and simply a few colors. Does that matter? I am using Nova Launcher Pro so any special setteings would be very helpful.
Also, I am using Juice Defender but I can't figure out how to keep sync off...I want it completely off unless I am using my phone. I keep finding my news feeds are updated (they are on my lockscreen and I see them refreshed in the background)...Is there a way to do this (phone is rooted too) I want to block EVERY app from even trying to sync unless I am using the phone. Thank you very much
The easiest way to stop all things syncing is to swithch of your wifi and data connection when you are not using your phone. I once had a great app that switch the data/wifi on and off automatically at a user defined time period ie On for 5 minutes every 2 hour + when the screen is on. Worked really well. That was on my SGSI. I have not needed it since getting a Note II. 7+ hours of screen time is plenty for me. I have currently only 6 widgets and use greader for my news needs. greader is set up to only sync when it is launched.
The cosmetic widgets you are using should not effect the battery but will probably effect the zippiness as they need to be drawn and redrawn with every page flip.
Other reasons for a lack of liquidity would be lots of ram greedy apps running such as Facebook amoung others. check which programs are running and how much ram they are using.
Ditch Juice Defender! No other phone can match the battery life of the Note II. If you are having problems it is probably you (the apps you installed) that is causing them.
Hope you find a solution.

Good idea. thanks for the help..... I notice when I kill my ram the program shuts down FIFTY (50) apps/processes. I figure that's my problem right there...best screen time I can get is like 4.5 or 5 hours...probably those 50 processes are doing it to me...battery options doesnt' show much. Is there a program like HijackThis (for PC) but for mobile that will give me a list out of everything running? Thanks again
Do you remember what that app was called?
