I've got a real love hate relationship with my dell, it doesn't do anything its supposed to but I still love it.
I got my dell last year in november, it stuffed up after having it after a few weeks. Wouldn't charge then couldnt plug it in to charge, and couldnt play media. I've been to buzy to get it "fixed" until now. It just came back last week it charges fine, but its still not playing any media and the sd card is blank or has unsupported files. Also when I plug it in to my computer the computer reconigises ive plugged in the dell it but i cant do anything with it.
I've tried restoring it to factory setting, and formatting and mounting the sd card all of which hasn't worked.
My network (02) dont seem to be able to offer up much support. They've offered to send out a new one but im worried im just going to have more problems. They've also offered to exchange it for a differant phone but I dont really want to give up on my dell.
I dont quite know what version it is apart from I know its dell 5 and it has stage.
Any advice atall (seriously anything) on what I can do to solve even one of these problems to give me faith in the dell streaks?
Im at my wits end with it!
Cheer to any anserws in advance
P.s Im new to smart phones so if possiable go easy with me on the lingo
Could it be something wrong with the sd card its self?
Please can anyone help? I would be soooo grateful for any reply.
If you can get a new one then do that. If then you have any issue post again and we will see what can be done.
Is the the original SD card?

i have the exact same problem with my 4 days old streak 5".
(unlocked dell streak, not rooted, no custom rom)
i tried the sd-card in a card reader in win7 with no result. the media was not found. even ubuntu was not able to find it.
also the galaxy s from my roommate showed the same error message "blank sd-card ... blabla".
so well, i will contact the dell support and then hopefully the problem gets solved.
someone tips for contacting the dell support?
i contacted the dell support (germany) and they send me a new 16gb sd-card.
maybe its a known problem with the streak.
i will report if its working properly with the new card.
Well, I received the replacement card today and its working fine so far.
in my opinion the problem was the broken sd-card.
I spent the last few weeks trouble shooting why my phone started to have random lockups/reboots with a growing frequencey. I have through process of elimination found that my external 32gb sd card seems to be the culprit. I used it for 1 week and each day I had my phone reboot itself 5-8 times and randomly lockup while using apps to the point I had to do a battery pull. I then went all of last week and only had to restart my phone 1 time by battery pull *new app froze, found it to be poorly designed* and no random reboots on its own.
I spent last night backing up all the data on my sd card. I kept movies/music/pictures on it but did not run any apps off of the card. I told windows to format it fat32 and then test the card and it said it found no problems. I copied the videos and such back over to the card then installed it. Within 1 hour the phone had already frozen up and rebooted itself.
For reference I am currently running Trigger 3.2 Final with KB5. I have also tried with Project V *forget exact version* and with CM7. All produce the same issue.
If you can think of something else I could try I would be most grateful. I am out of ideas. Have any of you ever experienced something like this?
what brand & class is the SD card?
i saw a deal at target last weekend... $8 for a dane-elec brand 8gb class 4 microSD card at target
i bought it for my gf so she could double the capacity of her current 8gb sandisk class 2 card that she had in her nexus one.
i copied everything over to the new card and after 10 minutes her phone started acting weird. as soon as the screen timed out, it would not come back on. you could operate the phone if you guessed where the buttons were on the black screen; even answer calls!
but you could not get the screen to come back on unless you rebooted and kept it awake.
i thought it was funny that she never had issues until immediately after i put the new card in, so i powered the phone off and swapped the old one back in.
no problems for a whole day. i put the new card back in the next day and it started messing up again.
so we returned the dane-elec and i snagged a kingston 8gb class 4 and tried again. no problems.
i know hers is an N1 but i figured it could be related. good luck!
My card is a Sandisk 32gb Class 4
+24 Hour Bump back up to page 1. Still cant figure this one out.
Have you also formatted the internal and re-installed the rom?
My girlfriends phone was running Axura for like 5 months and started having issues fc/freeze/reboot. I did everything and tried different rom's and kernels still same problems. Formatted internal SD and reinstalled Axura and she's been good since May.
Back everything. Pull the titanium folder. When you reinstall just copy everything back and you should be good. Also check out Br1ck'ds Ginger Zen thread second or third post for ultra cleaning steps.

Had the same issue on project v. Random soft boots and freezes. Thought it was the rom. Tried a few things but noticed the external scanning was unusually long. Took out the card and reformat it. Evrything good again.

Yeah I have tried formatting both through phone and pc no noticible difference. It is the external card causing issues not internal. I could try to format internal but when I installed trigger last it was from a clean print to stock format reroot etc. Process. Not sure if that would be the same more or less.

Sending back to front , still cant figure this one out. I have at this point tried a 16gb card my friend has and It had some of the symptoms but not all. What would you guys do to test the SD Card?
Love me some edt, but perhaps try a different rom from abother group. Problem persists im calling hardware issue.

I have has so many screen lockups with my X2 (screen is unresponsive but the physical buttons work), then it comes back with in 1 min or so. I SBF'd the new GB build and left it COMPLETE stock Rooted. NO bloat removed or anything. took out my 8 gig SD card and used Internal memory.
my X2 ran so freaking nice yesterday. fast, responsive, NO freezes and i used it allot all day. This morning, after charging, i rebooted, then when i got to work, i reinserted my 8 gig class4 SD card (i also used a 32gig card and got freezes as well) and within 15 min BOOM i got my first lock up surfing.
i am conviniced that it eaither has to do with the SD card slot itslef, or maybe the X2 does NOT like certian "class" cards?
i would love to see any of you who are getting lockups with screen unresponsive issues to try this and see if you get the same results? i was also getting freezes and lockups with ecliplse ROM when i ran a custom rom.
thoughts???
Interesting thoughts. I'm running a Lexar 16 GB class 6 card with no issues.
My phone doesn't lock up per se. What it does do sometimes is while surfing, the lock screen flashes and goes right back. Every once in a while I actually have to slide to unlock. Is this what you're talking about? Happens stock and rooted. I do use app called no lock and figured thats the problem.
it jsut seems way to strange that it ran perfect all day, the last time i used it with the SD card it was freezing all the time...
seems VERY fishy

yep, but it does not only happen when im surfing.....
I have a patriot LX 32GB class 10 micro sdhc card and I haven't had any of these problems while surfing stock or my main browser opera.
Although my X2 did kill my old Lexar 32GB class 10 microSD card upon a low battery shutdown.
killed it? really? what happend? it just fried?
it is just so strange that not one lock up then as soon as i inserted it within 15 min lock up....
if this issue would get resolved i would honestly keep this phone..but if it keeps happening, i might move to the bionic
My X1 killed an SD card too, that is how I got my X2... Verizon caught an earful. I can't remember for the life of me what brand of SD card it was, but I got it with my Storm 2 in 2009 when I came back to the US.
I have never had any issues with my x2 locking up, stock or otherwise.

After the shutdown hooked up to charger and SD card would not mount.... at all. Took out and tried it on all 6 of my computers (Windows, Linux, Mac) all tried to mount the card... nothing.
IMO 32gb micro-SDHC cards just aren't as reliable as their big brothers. Just recently I was going nuts trying to figure out why Titanium Backup was freezing up -- guess what, bad SD card. Had a 32gb Class 10 card that worked fine since about Easter in the phone, and SDFormatter took 3 hours to "reformat" it. I decided to toss it and went back to a 16gb Class 10. So far, not a single hiccup.

I think you are on the right track; although I believe it also depends on the brand of the card. Almost everything I buy memory wise is Patriot and I am very happy with them. I only bought the Lexar card because at the time it's the only class 10 microSD that my local computer store had.

Uh, okay, if you say so. But I've had three 32gb micro-sdhc cards go bad on me since they became available ... one was a Wintec, the other two, including this latest one, were Patriot.
Just sayin' ...

Nah, I said on the other page it was the one that came with my Storm 2. They didn't give me a new SD card when I upgraded last October. So I used it in my X1 and that is how I got my X2. I am a very influential individual when it comes to Verizon. Almost every phone upgrade on all 4 of my lines have been free in one way, shape, or form Me, paid for Storm 1, got 2 free, paid for X1, free to X2. My mom Eris to Inc 2 for free, my brother OG Droid to X1 AND X2 free. I don't ever settle for the bare replacement.

but will they install cm7 for me?
I'm curious if anyone decided to take their nooks in to get them repartitioned. Also curious how it worked out for anyone who did.
I had mine done yesterday... it was a complete img flash... so anything you might have on the internal memory will be gone, anything sideloaded... it took about 20 minutes as it has to be deregistered and brought back to original new status.. then then flash is done.. then it has to go through all that again...
I asked how much I was getting back.. 8GB ... so they split the 16GB between them and you...
Had to reinstall everything I had sideloaded and figure out where I was in a book .. OH lost all my achievements in the different Angry Birds... LOL
Got home and put my CM7 mSD disk in... booted up fine

Great to hear you were pleased with the results. I assume you were running B&N ROM, with CM7 via SDCard.
I am internally debating handing my baby over to them, using the xda method, or leaving things be.
Swyped from NT CM7.1.Alpha Final using XDA Premium
That is great to hear cuz I am so mixed up with the repartitioning on my own. Did you go in with 1.40 or 1.41 and did you walk out with 1.42? Do they do it right away or do you have to come back later and pick it up? I guess I want to make sure I get the same tablet back.

Yes.. running the CM7 using the mSD version...
When I got the Nook Tablet (Christmas gift).. they paid for 2 year warranty.. so in a few years.. I will probably just move it to internal.. just want to keep the warranty that was bought and not have them have wasted the $...
I rarely boot into BN... loving CM7

I had 1.4.2 on the Nook.. it came back with the same... I walked in went to the Nook desk told her what I wanted.. then sat right next to the her while she did the steps on a sheet of paper and the mSD with the img on it.. like I said.. I think it took about 20 minutes.. maybe less.. overall was pleased with it.. would have liked more back. lol but oh well 8 is better than 1
I recommend just doing the xda way. As another user mentioned already, they do a factory reset on your device, so it takes out all your content. If you do it yourself, you can atleast restore your data. What seems to happen is that, they do a factory reset, turn off the device, put their sd card in, and then boot via the cable connected to a wall adapter not by powering on the device normally.
Re-partitioned mine on Monday morning

I was not asked for a receipt or anything. I was told to come back in 20 minutes. When I returned 20 minutes later, I was asked if I had a 8 GB Nook Tablet or a 16 GB tablet. I told them it was a 16 GB tablet. I was again told to come back 20 minutes later.
I watched the desk where my Nook was undergoing surgery and saw a female employee take over from the guy that had been working on it. About 15 minutes later she asked me to log into my B and N account. She continued for a minute or so then told me it was done. She also took me to the "Settings" page and showed me the new settings. I had 5.91 GB for B&N content and 7.99 of 8 GB available for "other storage available".
All in all a painless procedure. My NT was taken in completely stock and unrooted.

To bad there was no way we could get a hold of that mSD so the devs could work with the image so we could do it ourselves that way.
Update
My wife works at B&N and is doing the memory update to hers today. She works mainly with the Nook sales and will be trained how to do the upgrade. I'll post the results later... hmm... wonder if the zip drive is with her.
I've been debating trying to do the repartition the xda way myself or take it into B&N. Not sure my skills are up to the xda way but want to make sure I can re-root it I get it back.
Did you get your NT back with version 1.4.2 and were you able to root it easily?
Thanks,

I went to B&N to do it last tuesday. process was smooth, but it did update it to 1.4.2. I also unrooted my device prior to taking it there (after backing up with CWM of course). When I took it in, I was at 1.4.0 unrooted with the stock recovery flashed, not cmw
After leaving there. I popped my cm7 sd card in, ran the app to flash CWM to internal then flashed my CWM backup. and poof, I am back to CM7 running on my sd card, and rooted 1.4.0 internal. Quite simple really.
Now I just hope someone works out a SD card version of the B&N firmware so I can put that on the sd card, and put the CM7 internal....
The advantage of the XDA way is that you decide the size of your partitions and save the extra time recovering everything, even CWM.

here is the boot image from the B & N mSD card for the partitioning of the 16gb Tablet.
Had mine done this morning. It took less than 10 minutes.
I had mine repartitioned this past weekend. I originally was running 1.4.0 with root by Indirect and decided I wanted to stay stock and play with CM7 on SD. I backed up a few files, then did a factory reset to unroot and took it in. It took them about 15 minutes. So now I'm completely stock internally (with a bigger partition), and I'm playing with CM7 on SD.
I took my nook into the local B&N today and had the repartition done. Used CWM stock recovery and nook unroot to return to factory settings before I took it in. Went in with 1.4.2. and the whole process went very quickly and smoothly. No one asked for receipts or checked for evidence of past rooting or even asked many questions at all. All I had to do was re-register when it was all over. When I got home, I rooted again using Albert Wertz's newest rom (4.6) and again, everything worked perfectly. I'm now rooted on 1.4.2 with the new partition sizes. Couldn't have gone better.
Thanks for this development and having such a great forum!
I have been reading the forum for a couple of months now and I need some help.
I'm running CM7 on a NT8 from a 8GB class 4 Sandisk MicroSD and it keeps rebooting into the B&N environment. This usually happens when I'm running the Pandora app; unattended. This is a new exchange due to cosmetic issues.
Had similar issues on first one, except less frequent. But could also cold start it into the CM7 environment as opposed to this one which needs to be plugged in to a power source to boot into CM7. I have re-flashed, re-downloaded and re-flashed, uninstalled and re-installed apps while troubleshooting but have yet to find stability. I am looking to be able to cold start into CM7 and have a stable long lasting 'ON' condition. In the meantime I would like to be able to backup my progress and pick up where I left off if re-flashing is required.
Reboots back to [B&N]...
Is Any one else having this issue? I have scoured without any luck.

i run cm7.2 internal... . but do you have another micro HC sd card laying around collecting dust ? . it would be a "no risk" action to build / flash yourself a second booting card. . was it mentioned that "not all cards" work very well ? . the card "needs" to work well at 4KB random i/o. . do you test your cards with : Crystal Disk Mark ? ( is free ! )
hth...
I am also encountering this issue. This is my first time trying this out, and I was following instructions found here by CelticWebSolutions and I installed everything to a class 10 PNY 16gb sd card and extended the last partition to use up all the space on the card by using MiniTool Partition Wizard. Everything seems to be working perfectly except it randomly reboots itself back to the stock B&N homescreen. Any ideas or suggestions? I should add I tried using Crystal Disk Mark on the card 4k gave 3.742 mb/s read and 0.015 mb/s write (which i don't know but i figure its kind of low) white 4k qd32 resulted in 4.137 mb/s read and 0.025 mb/s write. If the card is the problem, should I look into just exchanging the card or getting a different brand?
i'm going to 'stick my neck out' and say that sounds low. . i've test out some cards where the value is fifty plus times greater / better. . and i also read that it is tied to the voltage. . was said that it works better ( trouble free ? ) with the lithium charged up. . i think the senior devs ( fire / kernel ) are doing something with the voltage regulator . . .
Thanks for the reply O.F. I 'm enjoying playing with CyanogenMod that I'll just back things up and dive in to internal. I'll keep trying all the different solutions I find here but by the weekend I'm rooting. I think I lost a little focus messing with this 16GB microSD that will just not take. It acts right for storage but will not flash anything. I agree it has a lot to do with the flakiness of the cards. Crystal Disk Mark is a solid.
I have been experiencing this problem as well. I've been running CM7 dual boot for about a month now on a SanDisk Class 6 card. It was running okay up until last week, at which point I was asked if I wanted to update the ROM.
Ever since the ROM was updated, it's been rebooting at random into B&N until finally last night, it wouldn't let me boot into CM7 past the skating Cyanomagen guy at all! Very frustrating.
...thinking of returning the Nook and getting the Samsung 2 7.0 and not having to deal with this.
Thanks to the developers for their time though.
