Hi all!
Since the 2GB microSD card sold with the device (an xperia mini pro) is becoming too "small" i have decided to buy a new microSD card (a 16GB model).
The question is ... how do i tranfer all the data from the previous microSD card to the new without messing things up?
I have already red somewhere that it suffice to copy/paste using a windows PC. Ok. I got that. But when am i supposed to pull out the old microSD card? While the phone is running (although it sound really bad to me)? After turning off the phone? Or is there some kind of "safetly remove"?
Thanks in advance
Yes you can do but unmount after go to settings > storage > unmount SDcard then swap SDcard and repeat again (providing you are on ICS

Thanks for your answer.
Actually i am runing android 2.3
What about doing like this:
1) turn off the phone
2) pull out the old 2GB microSD card
3) copy/paste all the content to the new 16GB microSD card
4) insert the new 16GB microSD in the phone
5) turn on the phone
Would this be a good way to go?
You can do, enable mass storage on device for faster transfers too

Only one question: how did you do step 2 without removing the old sd card from the phone?

Thanks. Now i am running android 2.3 so that mtp option is in a different path ... i just need to find it out ... anyone still running 2.3 can tell please?
Ok. I found the correct pathway for android 2.3.4 : settings -->Sony Ericcson--> Connectivity --> Mod. Conness. USB --> MSC
So the entire process should follow these steps:
1. enable hidden files/folders in pc.
2. chage the setting "mtp" to "mass storage" in the phone.
3. connect the phone to the PC.
4. copy all files/folders from sd card to pc (i created "Sd card backup" folder in the PC)
5. disconnect the phone from the PC.
6. turn off phone.
7. remove the old microSD card from the phone.
8. put new sd card in phone
9. power on the phone
10. format new sd card with phone
11. copy back all data/folder from pc to sd card
About step 5 ... I guess that the "Mass Storage Mode "(MSM) let the xperia mini pro behave like a "normal" USB stick, right? If so, i am supposed to you remove the phone from the PC through the "Safely Remove Hardware" option of Windows (the little icon in the right-bottom corner of the desktop)?

hi all i have been very annoyed with sonys attitude to getting the sd card mounting wrong even after speaking to them online and over the phone i got the same reply ... this is not a fault with sony this is something you will need to contact the app devs. unhappy with this i tried fixes found on the www all came up with the same problem it all works fine on the phone but not on pc so after a bit of work i think i have a solution
the vold.fstabs in the /etc needs to be tweaked as with all others on the net but this one works with the pc as well.
has been tested on my device if you replace it with the file attached (root access required ) after renaming original to .bak .
reboot device if you get sd error on reboot please delete and restore orginal and post your finding
please note i am not a dev i have some knowledge but just a hobbyist

Hi.
Is this a bug on all Xperia GO?
I don't have any issue with my SD card on my phone, everything are working like it should i believe.
Could you please explain what kind of problem this is? The SD EXT card i believe is the extra memory card you insert into the phone. If so, i don't have any problem with that one.
Thanks in advance

this is a problem with all go and as far as i know all xperia 2012 phones where the internal memory is partitioned to system and user the user is then mounted as sd card meaning that after 4gb no more app data can be installed etc. this means that you SD CARD is unusable for apps and app data (apps2sd) will try to install to sd card but go to internal memory

Uhu, I messed up.
I did everything you said, but right after restarting, some apps (usbotg, media service etc) stopped working and some apps as well, I think they were in internal storage.
One thing, as you were saying, the ext_sd will be sdcard and the sdcard will be ext_sd?
[Xperia Go] are the mountpoints the same in JB?
If I switch my internal and external sd mountpoints using ICS, will a upgrade to JB using SUS overwrite the(modified) vfold.fstab?
Isuspect the upgrade will unroot the phone
can i use in xperia go JB st27i? i tried, but unsuccessfully
I purchased my first smartphone just two months ago so I am very new to this. When I recieved my new phone I found that there was a lot of apps that I did not realy want but can't uninstall nor move to the SD card. I have read so much here and on other sites that "rooting" the device will give me better control over storage I would like to do this but not sure exactly what software I should use to do this.

Thanks guys for the above info, my next question is whats the best way to put "update.zip" file on to pnone SD card after downloading on to PC:
Is it best to:
Copy and paste file from PC to SD card with phone attached to PC using USB cable.
or
Move file to SD card using same set up as above.
or
Use a SD card adaptor fitted to PC USB and move or copy file to phone SD card fitted to adaptor.
Sorry for the above silly questions.

Sorry for last silly questions, this is what I have done so far.
Fitted cable from phone to PC USB
SD files seen ok on pc, moved "update.zip" file from PC to phone SD card and disconnected phone from PC.
Powered up phone using: volume+home+power buttons.
Used volume up/down to select .zip file pressed home to install.
Rebooted phone and checked for "superuser icon" it was there so looks like my phone is rooted.
Downloaded and installed on phone "Link2SD" and it worked ok I could open all options, but still to partition my SD card, thats my next task.
I have downloaded "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition v7.6" and installed on my PC ready to partition my SD card I have read a few posts here and other web sites to try and understand what format is best for my Phones SD card.
What is the best format to use: ext2 or ext3 ??
What is the best way to backup/reinstall apps that are on my SD card at the moment ??

This is where I get a wee bit confused regarding formating you suggested ext3 but when you read the information for link2sd it says to format both partitions as FAT32 they say that ext2/ext3 may not work on all phones but FAT32 works on all, have I read this correctly ?
I downloaded "Titanium app" free edition and installed on my phone it runs fine after install but can you use this app to backup apps thats on the SD card to PC ?
At the moment I can't see an option to do this, have I missed somthing?

1. Detecting ext3/4 depends on your kernel. But even if you are on stock 5830i firmware & kernel, link2sd will detect sd-ext even if it is ext2 format. If you are on Rafael Kernel, you can format sd-ext on ext3 or ext4. I recommended ext3, coz most people do that, and so far ext3 is reported to perform best without stressing much life out of your SD Card. I haven't ever tried formating sd-ext in fat32 or heard of someone doing that. So can't say if Fat32 is better than the ext file system or the other way around
2. You'll have to manually copy the backup you made in the "sdcard/titaniumbackup" folder in your SD card to Your PC. Whenever you want to restore that backup, simply put it back in same directory in SD card and run titanium restore process

You are welcome and good luck with ur plans ... One little correction in your post. As i explained earlier that default kernel will only recognize ext2. so format sd-ext in ext2 format to get it detected in link2sd on default firmware. ext3/ext4 is only detectable in custom kernel

Must have misunderstood, I shall use ext2 to format sd-ext.
I may not bother just now doing a backup of old 2gb SD card because the apps I have on there I can re-download when I have set up the new card so I may just delete these apps to get them of the system and start fresh, there not important apps anyway.
Sorry but I meant to ask what would be the best sizes for each partition when I format the 16gb SD card ?
Let me know what you think.

Yes saeed14i Understand what your saying but having 10gb or so on first partition will be ok in my situation as I will only be using for pictures etc and I am one of these guys that uploads pics to PC and does a clean up on a regular basis.
So this is how it stands now, Backed up my apps on the old SD card using "Wondershare MobileGo for Android" ready to reinstall on to 2nd partition of new SD card, formated and created partitions on new SD card using "MiniTool Partition Wizard home edition", I then used "Link2sd" to link apps that were on internal storage, reinstalled backed up apps using "Wondershare" they went straight to internal storage but linked to 2nd partition with no problems.
Note/ I did not link any system apps.
Was a bit confused at first when trying to link apps to 2nd partition as when you open an app in Link2sd it shows a window with info of app and some buttons and I thought you had to use the "move to SD card" but I realised you only use the "create link button", silly me.
As I said above I used "Wondershare MobileGo for Android" to do backup and found it worked well I liked the fact that you dont require your USB cable to attach your phone to PC you can use WiFi and that is what I used and it worked great.
Phone Internal storage before starting was 3.5mb free
After doing all of the above my internal storage is now 118mb free (well worth doing)
I will try and post some pictures at a later date once I get them sortd out.
The whole process of rooting, creating 2nd partition, backing up apps and linking apps to 2nd partition has went well, a big thanks to you saeed14i and other members who posted on this thread. I was very aprehensive before I satarted but being on xda has helped a lot.

With link2sd, U can uninstall useless system apps eg office viewer native email client etc to free internal storage. Complete list is provided by shankay in a. There has been no marked difference in battery use and I feel my phone is responding well with no hickups :good:
Will post other pictures soon with regards to other stuff I have done.
Hey guys, I just flashed over to jellybam and so far its pretty tight. The only issue I came across was my camera. Everytime I hit the icon to bring it up it says that I have no sd card and closes me right out of it. I am currently using a 8gb sd that is fine and not sure what the issue is.
advice?
fyi: i am running s-on
You might try formatting the sd card.

Yeah, back the files up on your pc/laptop. In storage options, it'll allow you to format the SD Card.

ok well before I do that, I am looking through the settings and I do not even see a place where I can format a sd card. Where would I do this?

Hi everyone!
Here is my first mod for Galaxy Ace 2,
This mod allows move applications to real sd card, applications will use real sd card for datas (like games). And you can do it without root!
Installation progress:
1-Move applications on sd card to phone's storage (If exists)
2-Download Modded_VoldFstab_Installer.zip ( at Attachments)
3-Copy it to SD Card
4-Power off the phone and open recovery
5-Install Modded_VoldFstab_Installer.zip
6-Select "reboot system now"
How can I revert it?
1-Move applications on sd card to phone's storage (If exists)
2-Download Original_VoldFstab_Installer.zip ( at Attachments)
3-Copy it to SD Card
4-Power off the phone and open recovery
5-Install Original_VoldFstab_Installer.zip
6-Select "reboot system now"
Note:Don't try this package on gingerbread! It will brick your phone!
Note2: Tried on XXMC8
This is like 1001 thread here about vold.fstab mod.Why did you opened thread for this and why it is in development section?
Normal memory swap. Go out with this, is xxx thread about this
If there was a Modded file there was always a original backup

I have not seen a zip file that can be flashed via the stock recovery in any of the other threads, so I think this is not such a bad idea.

Thank you!
Finaly a vold.fstab that works like it should.
The others I've tried continued to move the apps to the 1.2Gb phone drive, this one finally moves the apps to the real sd card like you say... Guess 1001 threads are good after all

It doesn't make sense for me.
The only cause to swap data to sd is that games are bigger than the internal SD. But this does the other vold.fstab you can find here, too.
So why to use this one?
Sent from my GT-I8160 using xda premium
Because using the one included in Italian Job the "Move to SD" option doesn't move to the real sd, apps are still going to the virtual sd card of the phone.
Try moving some apps to the sd card and you'll see the available space of the virtual sd card go lower. This means that when we get to 1.2 Gb of apps we get an error message saying that there is not enough space even thou the real sd card may have plenty of space. I'm talking about the apks, not the data from games, data from games goes to the correct place.
The vold.fstab included here solved this problem for me, apps are now going to the real sdcard.
For what use this? Good ,big games have .obb file and this go to sd card
I have ace 2 one year and I never use all space for apk. Allways is free something like 600-700mb. Old moded vold.fstab is ok. Better do (if possible)
On stock vold.fstab (1.1/1.1/ext.sd card) I want to instal games directly on external sd card. Some games have that options but not all.

Well, I can tell you that many games/aplications apks occupy more than 100Mb (Anomaly Korea for example) and that every game/aplication I've installed had the option to move to sd (talking about going to Application Management and selecting the move to sd option after the game is installed). if you dont move them to the sd card and install a few big games, you will run out of space fast, I know I did...
Also I believe this is how the move to sd SHOULD behave, moving stuff to sd, dont you?
How install in italian 1.0.0?

Look at available space in your 1st screenshot, now install a few more games with big apks. I can suggest Plants vs Zombies and The Room, you probably wont have enough space for both and will need to move something to the sd card to install them both.
Big games don't necessarily use a lot of phone space, some put most of the info on the sd card in the obb folder, but some don't, usually the data downloaded when you start the game is put in the sd card, and the data downloaded from the play store is left on the phone.
Regardless none of this invalidates that an option that is supposed to move stuff to sd card wasn't doing what it was supposed to do.

Ok, agree. If you want 500 apps installed the internal app storage is too small (i never get it filled up... )
But if this happens, I still have the 1gb internal sd to move them...

Odin is a tool to flash files to the phones partitions, e.g. recovery or a full rom. You will need to open CWM then mount usb storage, copy the rom you downloaded to sdcard and finally install it by selecting install zip file.

Not likely that there is an option to mount as USB in recovery as most phones with JB or newer do not have the mass storage protocol built in as most phones use MTP now. He would have to use ADB to push a new rom to /sdcard (or adb sideload) or use Odin like was mentioned earlier to rewrite back to complete stock.

There is no matching stock rom for odin. The phone has a micro sd card slot. Means that copying the rom to the micro sd card and flash it will be the easiest way.

There isn't an OFFICIAL official tar file for it, but you can get back to 99% with the files found here: http://d-h.st/p94 via Odin. But yea, forgot about the SD card slot, that probably would be easiest. I'm just used to adb in these situations.
