[Q] Can a bad SIM card cause a crazy touch responsive? - HTC Rezound

so let me preface with I'm rooted, s-off, global, not retarded, been flashing roms since 2008, etc. etc. etc.
I did a nandroid, wiped, put a T-Mobile Pay by the Day SIM card, and booted into the GSM MIUI installation. My goal was to test to see if I had the 1900 HSPA+ network in my area, which I unfortunately don't. Seeing as how I still had this SIM paid for for another day, I figured I'd play around with GSM and test the EDGE speeds and whatnot. About 5 minutes into my GSM molestation, the touch screen started becoming unresponsive at times, and began making phantom touches. The best parallel I can make is the "crazy mouse" from the days of yore that always ended with a computer reboot and blowing out the mouse.
Seeing as how I had replaced my digitizer the previous week, I was very terrified that I got a bunk digitizer.
I went to recovery, flashed a CM9 GSM ROM, and had the same problem. Feeling defeated, I put my VZW SIM card and restored my nandroid to see if I could retrieve some data off the phone before doing a warranty or getting a new phone completely, and the screen was completely responsive again!
Has anyone experienced this issue before?

There is no possible way that it is SIM related. Did you pop the GSM SIM card back in and the problem came back?

Any chance you were plugged in charging at the time

I just tried the one sim with 2 different ROMs (system wipe both times) then went back to the VZW SIM.
come to think of it, I was charging, but I always use my phone while charging

Data is dead after removing and reinserting sim. Help?

I have been running custom roms on my droid since the root explot was first discovered, and I have a rooted xoom as well. Last night I rooted my thunderbolt and installed the debloated rom. I don't think it is even related to my problem, as it still worked fine after doing this, but I thought it was worth mentioning. I removed the sim card today, just to prove to my brother that it did indeed have a sim, and after reinsertation, my thunderbolt has not been able to connect to a data network. I do not live in a 4g area, and I have tried reseating the sim several times. I can make phone calls, wifi works fine, but I cannot get the 3g icon, and the browser won't load if not on wifi.. I'm starting to get scared. I can't think of anything else to try. Any suggestions?
EDIT 1: I have intermittent 1x data, but I never get 3g. And when I say intermittent, I mean I get it like right after a call for maybe a minute, then it goes away.

I had this same issue as well when I removed and reinserted my SIM card. When I booted back up I was stuck on 1xRTT. After making a call, they phone locked back on to LTE and everything was good after that. If it still isn't working I would recommend giving Verizon a call. They may be able to reactivate it. I did notice that the problem persisted even though I flashed a couple different roms on the device. I'm thinking it probably isn't a great idea to remove and insert the SIM if you don't have to.
Just an update,
I spent 2.5 hours at the effing verizon store today after spending an hour on the phone. Even after all that time, and giving me a new SIM, they STILL couldn't get my TB to connect to 3g. They said that it might magically start working at midnight for no particular reason, but had no clue what to do (I was actually at a corporate store btw) If it doesnt start working tonight, I am going back tomorrow. I have no idea what the hell is up. I am very tech savvy, and this is just insane. It must be a verizon problem in my area that it wont let the phone reactivate for the 3g/4g

[Q] VZW 4G SIM card not recognized on boot

Rebooted my TBolt and when it started up it popped a big lock screen message about the SIM card not being recognized. Phone booted up rest of the way anyways, but kept popping that warning occasionally.
Rebooted again and it seems to have gone away.
Just curious if this is just a fluke or the sign of something worse to come.
Any one else seen this behavior?
Keep in mind, this is a VZW 4G sim that they installed 10 weeks ago and never had any problems with...no attempt to do anything like use some 3G AT&T SIM, etc, etc.
I noticed this behavior for the first time today, right after I rebooted as well. I immediately tried calling my Google Voice number (didn't want to try calling a friend) and it went through, so I'm not sure if the error message is valid or not.
considering this phone has some of the same insides as the hd7, that does not suprise me.
I get the error occasionally of no sim on my hd7 and reboot always makes it go away. Happened maybe 4-5 times since November.
Thanks for the replies. Only three one time so far, so probably nothing to worry about based on both your experiences.

Have you reactivated a 3g phone on your account? This voids the 4g sim.

[Q] No data connection in the last few days.

Hello all,
I have had no data connection in the last few days. solid signal, but no data. i have done almost everything i can do and still the same result. switched back to Rev.A and i can get 3g "ok", not sure whats up. Any suggestions? I also reflashed the Mr2 radio and no change.
Another thought is my SIM card might have taken a dump. Id be willing to take it into verizon and get a new sim but dont want to unroot, revert to stock. got way to much going on with my phone to just start from scratch again : ( just so i can "try" if a new SIM would work. what would happen if i took my rooted thunderbolt into a verizon store for a new SIM card?. Would they Deny me service?or put a note on my account stating i have rooted and voided my warranty?. Just curious as to what would happen. they would deffidently notice right off the bat because of my sense 3.0 rom, kernal, gingerbread, signal icons, lock ring, signal bars, spash screen, boot animation and sound, etc...
need help guys! thanks in advance! : )
Well I know you said you don't want to but just make a nandroid backup before you unroot and stick it on your pc for safe keeping. Then when you are re-rooted just wipe everything and restore the backup and you are EXACTLY where you were before. Plus with Revolutionary re-rooting takes all of 5-10 minutes.

Talk to the guys there. Get a feel for them... The guys at the shops near me couldn't care less about a rooted device. As long as the software isn't the issue, which a bum SIM shouldn't be, they shouldn't really care. I'd feel them out a bit before assuming unrooting is a must. You might get lucky.
I will send this thread up. This is exactly the problem I am experiencing. The Thunderbolt has perfectly good network signal but data connection is not working. It complains about "SIM card not found" when entering the Settings and APNs. The SIM card is detected by the device otherwise, it's possible to save contacts to it and retrieve them. But 4G data is completely dead.
I visited a VZW store yesterday and received a new SIM card but the problem is still there. I have also tried to reflash to the latest leaked radio without any solution.
The ROM used is the latest Synergy Nightly.
I begin to consider the possibility of restoring the Thunderbolt back to stock and get a replacement but it would be good if this problem can be solved.

[Q] No Backlight or SIM functioning: Went through Washer

Phone went through the wash. Took out battery, let dry for over 2 weeks. Rooted with factory Tmobile GB ROM. It's clean and everything works except for the backlight won't come on, and it resets the phone with sim(works fine in airplane mode)(sim works fine in another phone).
Since I tried the sim card, it took it out of airplane mode at boot, and the phone keeps resetting after it fully boots(5mins). Is there a way to make it default to airplane mode?
I've heard of people reflashing the rom after dropping the phone, or other software issues to get back the backlight? Any ideas?
You try a different SIM card? Maybe the SIM card contacts are corroded due to being washed
Ya, no go. So if I end up getting a new phone, what should I get? 12mp camera would be a nice upgrade. Sony Xperia Ion, T, or V?
Only problem with those is you have to buy an unlock code for $45 to use with another carrier.
Can't find a way to do it yourself. Any other suggestions?

Random drop from 4g to 3g - Sim ? Icon

Hey everyone,
I've been delaying action on this but the OTA update got me into gear.
For the past few months i've been having an issue where my phone will drop from 4G to 3g, and a SIM icon with a ? will show up. Toggling airplane mode or restarting the phone fixes it. Because I wanted to dodge today's OTA, I went ahead and rooted via STUMP, but the issue is hard to reproduce (i have a screenshot). I always ensure that my network is set to LTE/CDMA instead of Global, but it almost feels like its auto-switching at some point (maybe when the signal drops)
Im thinking next step is to get a replacement SIM from VZW. My fear is that the SIM wont fix it, i'll need a hardware replacement, and the one they give me will have shipped with ioRoot/stump/bump patched.
Anyone have this issue and resolve it completely without a full replacement? If so, how? Ive tried a battery pull but that didnt help, ive never removed the SIM on this phone
Thanks!
Happened to me before and I ended up getting a new SIM from VZW and then activating it and it didn't have an issue after that.
Not with my G3 but with my RAZR MAXX

Just so you know, I was recently having some strange 4g to 3g drops (you can read by thread in this same Q&A section). They were under very different circumstances, but one thing that remained constant was not amount of resetting or reflashing other roms fixed them. After exhausting all other options and thinking I may have to try and get a new sim to see if that fixed things, I took a last ditch effort and used the .tot file and lg flash tool to fully wipe the device back to 100% out of box stock. After doing this my issues have vanished. I'm thinking something got seriously hosed in the radio somehow, and granted I never got any "?" notifications so it's a long shot at best, but something you may consider if all else fails!
If you have never pulled your SIM before, you might want to pull it and reseat it a few times, just to make it self-clean. Save a trip to Verizon, maybe.
