I've recently been dealing with a frustrating problem. When touching the capacitive buttons, I have to touch slightly above the back, home, and menu symbols in order to get a response; touching the symbols directly yields no response. Originally I thought it may be the ROM but that is not the case as I get the same results when I boot into recovery and touch the buttons. Is the digitizer going bad or are all of the EVO LTE's like this and I just never paid it any attention? The phone has no physical damage or water damage to it. I'm half tempted to take it to Sprint and get it replaced but I'm running
hardware rev 0003
S-OFF (LazyPanda)
hboot 1.12.2222
....and don't want to give that up...
Everything else as far as the touch screen works fine, it just seems like the buttons have become misaligned. Is there an app to check or calibrate the buttons?

so as most huge problems start out, I got what I thought was a good deal on Ebay.
it's a touch pro that they claimed worked great but the touch pad wouldn't respond. All other controls functioned normally and only 4 months old.
4 months is pretty close, I got the touchpad working by re-soldering the 4 connections on the ribbon cable. but the navi pad only responds in the up-down directions. none of the other buttons on the front work, call buttons, home, back and enter all stay black and do nothing. What's strange is that up and down work
I reflashed it with a stock sprint ruu. then hard reset a couple of times. Nothing helps. I'm trying to get my hands on NAVDbgTool.exe, but i think that will only tell me what I already know. it's not working.
any ideas?!!
try to get the whole assembly. on eghey. also i heard there was an website that specialized in getting htc parts. i cant remember the url though.
I just missed a whole keyboard, screen, and everything a friend was selling. The whole top half of a phone, would have been just what I need.
cracked navipad
So, If any one has an interest in this. I think I solved what's going on here.
we know that the navipad is touch as well as having hardware buttons below.
my up and down directional buttons work fine. but no enter and no home ect. Home, back, and the two call buttons have two on either side and then the directional left and right. so in the left and right sides there is only 1 hardware button on each side meaning that it relies on touch to know where your finger is when you're pressing to know what function to perform.
I got looking really close at my navipad and holding it at angles near light i can see really fine cracks on the left side. So I'm guessing that it being broken is keeping the phone from getting a touch response so it can't assign a function to the press if it doesn't know where my finger is.
but the enter button is also touch sensitive and only works for the first few seconds of the boot cycle or when the device is off and doing a hard reset with voldown+enter+power.
So, at least it's a simple fix if I can find a directional pad somewhere.
Touch pro and Diamond interchangeable?
Does anyone know if the directional pad / Navipad of a Touch Diamond is the same as the touch pro? att fuze looks similar, but looking at a close up picture its obviously different.
I have a similar problem...please visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561892&page=2
My evo 4g lte has been wonderful with MeanROM. I have noticed one peculiar thing with the capacitive touch screen. When I brush my finger slightly above the panel and not touching it, functions activate. Or sometimes when I'm entering data I'll make a motion toward the screen but not touch it and it triggers. This is disconcerting because I'm afraid that I'll dial out inadvertently or save any entry when I'm not intending to. Have any of you noticed this same behavior? Is there something wrong with my touch screen? Also, this behavior exhibited itself even when the ROM was stock.
I tried doing the recalibration on the keyboard but that didn't help.
Thanks,
Jon

its normal. happens on mine and my original evo. these screens are crazy sensitive. just gotta get used to it
You obviously have some psychic powers!!
It's because the screen and most touchscreen these days are capacitive. They rely on electrical impulses that the body naturally gives out therefore you can be close to the screen and without touching it, it'll register the touch
My screen seems to be touching itself lately. Random phantom clicks are happening, mostly in the area just below the notification bar. It doesn't happen all the time, but I have been unable to pin a potential cause down. If the worst happens, and it goes completely nuts, what would you do? Are there reasonable options for replacement screens? Anyone know what replacement options are offered by Verizon? I have insurance.
Phone is rooted and running JellyBlur. This behavior has persisted through different ROMs, so I don't think it's software related. If I end up taking it in to Verizon, I know I have to return it to stock, and I really don't want to do that if I can avoid it. Thanks in advance for your help.
Update: It seems there's something weird going on when I use the volume keys. It causes the screen to register a press on the top center. Any idea how to go about fixing it, or is it even worth looking at? Used Galaxy Nexus phones aren't that expensive, after all.

Interesting. I have had the same problem, but it's intermittent and very rare. I discovered it when I had set the keyboard to allow volume keys to move the cursor while typing. Pressing one of the volume keys resulted in unwanted characters appearing. The same volume key press kept producing the same unwanted characters.
Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas.
I had a similar issue and ended up buying a used TBolt on ebay for $60. A replacement LCD/digitizer combo is about the same price. I went with the whole unit so I could make the transition with little downtime, but swapping the screen out of these phones is really simple.
Hi,
I just got an EVO 3D today as a replacement for my old phone that broke. I noticed that the touch screen records some of my touch inputs a bit to the left. So when I touch backspace, it actually types 'm' and when I try to touch p it registers as o. I don't want to go to the trouble of going back to the sprint store, so would calibration.ini work still on ics?
Yeah, you should be able to go into settings under display and recaliberate your screen
Mine does the EXACT same thing. I rarely can type a p to save my life (although it is more tolerable using Swype). It seems like the right 5% of my screen is unresponsive.
I couldn't find any calibration under Display in settings (I'm running a sense 3.6 custom Rom). Where exactly is it?
I'm afraid my digitizer is messed up, but I don't get the craziness of ghost presses and such. But this issue happens for me on every Rom so I'm leaning toward a hardware issue.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hello guys,
While I was using, all of a sudden, the soft keys and and the lowest area of the touch screen is not taking any responses. The touch screen works fine in other areas. I tried enabling navigation keys on screen which comes at the bottom end and hence that didn't work. .The screen is responsive above that. phone never fell down. It was well protected.
Tried resetting, didnt work. Same issue is there even when I open TWRP. The navigation keys on twrp also will not work
What do You guys think? Is the keys dead?
Kindly help

That's a hardware fault. If you believe that it has not suffered any external damage, you may want to open it up & make sure the ribbon cable for digitizer is completely seated to the board.
Otherwise, you may need a new phone.
I'm sure there was no external damage. Well protected with case, Screen guards on, Never fallen from my hand. Not even a single scrach on phone
Will it work if I change the digitizer?
:crying: I have same problem too
I'm gonna try replacing the Digitizer.
