Hey everybody. I think this thread is somewhere but I looked and couldnt find any solution for this issue. I have a SGH-i777, rooted and unlocked and all that fun stuff. It was working fine until the other day when I believe the battery was drained all the way (wife's phone, doesn't take care of it). I tried charging it but only thing that would pop up was the battery sign for like 3 seconds and then it would go blank, wouldn't charge. I tried going into download mode and it did so I thought it was just the battery. I bought a battery wall charger and charged it. I then tried to boot the phone but same thing would happen. I tried going into download mode and all it shows is Low battery!! Can't download!! in red. When I plug the phone in to PC or wall, the battery sign pops up and shuts down. Any suggestions of what it could be? Bricked? Motherboard? Battery?
replace the battery..?

It sounds like a problem that I had which ended up being a USB charging port and I was in a battery boot loop and also was not able to get into download mode.first I bought a USB jig which forces you into download mode and the USB charger port which got my phone out of that horrible battery boot loop. And with no experience at all I ended up changing the USB charger port its very easy just look up video on utube.I hope this helps you and here's so pics of the stuff I bought

It could be the charging port, but I forgot to mention that I tried with a different battery after having it on a separate battery wall charger and it still gives me the same issue. Well actually now, the previous battery I had doesn't even let me go into download mode or shows any signs of power. The replacement battery that I am trying does show some sign of life by trying to go into download mode, but giving me the "Battery low!!, Can't Download".

Like I said it sounds exactly what I was going through and it took 8 dollars to fix it so its worth it.http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=190757144194&index=1&nav=SEARCH&nid=91640319289

I have fixed this issue by connecting 3AA batteries together on series and placing the positive from the first AA battery on the positive terminal of the phone battery and the negative of the last AA battery to the negative of the phone battery. You are basically charging your phone battery minus any safety precautions. Leave the AA batteries.connected.for about 5 minutes and you should be good to go. Reset battery statistics when the phone has booted and charged correctly.

So I had an extra charging port and I switched them out and yet I have the same problem. I am going to try your way jmgelba, but I don't quite understand how you connected 3 AA batteries in a series and connected the positive of the first and negative of last battery to phone batter? Did you use wires? Do you have a image configuration to show me or a photo?
Thanks
I used soldered wires on the batteries which were in series, giving me 4.5v.

first of all thank you to everyone who has replied.
So I bought a new battery and I believe the batteries that I tried were bad. So I tried flashing it back to stock ics with odin and all works fine, until it tells me "FAIL". I dunno why its not flashing back to stock. I managed to root the phone and it roots and reboots and shows the galaxy logo but then gets stuck. I left it for a while but nothing happened. I tried to flash back to stock once more and it got stuck on odin and I bricked the phone, luckily i had a unbrick usb jig and so I took out battery, plugged it in and it goes directly to download mode and says
"Product name: SGH-I777
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official"
So I don't know if that means the official ICS is installed or what. I try flashing it again but same thing happens and it fails. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You.
P.S I have been looking for Stock Gingerbread, maybe thats why its not flashing, but doubt it. Where can I get it?
Now it also gets stuck on Samsung Galaxy SII logo after reboot

Go to the download repository (link in my sig) and flash the I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries. That's stock Gingerbread full install with all the files. You can use the one-click downloader, or use the tar.md5 file with Odin. Let us know if that gets you going.

Thats funny cuz I just came back to reply that I found a solution at

It did work and it is back to stock. Freaking tried everything and your solution worked.

Easy Solution
A very Simple Solution:-
I have been seeing the same issue in my sgh-i777, and found an easy alternative.
you just cover the battery output points with a small piece of paper. and put it back in phone to get charge.
This way it will only charge; NOT start /try to start the phone and go into infinite loop of boot.
wait for 15-20 min, pull the paper pieces out and BINGO, your phone turn on!

My sister has a Samsung Galaxy y phone running Gingerbread 2.3.3 (not rooted). She plugged the phone after it ran out of charge and saw this screen (pic attached) with the battery icon empty and a blue triangle with a crossed out battery symbol inside it. The phone would not power up
We tried everything : checked charger, plug points, usb charging, taking out battery and cleaning contacts but everything is fine.
Please help if anyone knows what this is
NOt sure if it will help anymore but this happened to me, I couldn't figure it out. TO make a long story short. I got another battery at full charge, put phone into download mode and used Odin application on my PC to get back to stock . Phone booted and worked fine with charging and all. It might be the port but i'm not sure
Only when my phone goes under 50 percent does it not charge now. Its odd. I am getting a replacement phone soon.
Edit- I'm using an At&t galaxy note.
What solved the problem
Well, my sister just took the phone to the service centre coz it was within warranty. Those guys gave it back to her with a new battery and some patches installed...they were not prepared to say which . Anyway, now her phone is fine. Seems to be something exclusive with samsung devices.
Battery issue
I had the same issue with my unrooted HTC Evo 4g a while back, when the charger was plugged in it would charge for about a minute then I would have a blue triangle on my battery icon. I replaced the battery and all was right again hope this helps anyone else who reads this even though it sounds like your sister's issue is resolved.
Okay so I know it was the phone that got messed up. I had originally been rooted with a custom rom and the issue occurred randomly. Come to find out, after I odin'ed back to stock with a spare battery at 100 percent the phone started working normally but... Once the phone got back below 20 percent or so it started not charging. It was so odd. Basically it wasn't the rom or the battery. I used 2 seperate batteries. It was definitely the port or the phone's internal memory got corrupted. It was weird and maybe it will never be pin pointed what the issue was but in the end if the phone went below 50-20 percent it wouldn't charge. Note: If the phone was put into download mode, I could leave it on the charger and it would charge no matter what, so technically I could have lived with the phone only charging in download mode until I got it over 50 percent, then I could of charged it in the car or other chargers.
I went back to the store once I Odined back to stock and they just gave me a new phone, thanks to Warranties. If anyone gets stuck with your phone being rooted and rom'ed, just go to download/ODIN mode and charge your phone up until you can odin it back to stock, then take it back to the store for a replacement if your within warranty.
Problem solved. Just flash it with odin
This problem can be solved by flashing with an odin a firmware with pit and bootloader. The tools are provided in the link. Download it and flash your phone.
download it from
d-h.st/PF5
Before flashing download the usb drivers and install it.

press thanks if i helped
I have read similar threads but want to make sure I did not miss anything...
My Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 device seems to be totally dead:
Pressing and holding power button does nothing
Pressing power and Volume Up and Volume down buttons do not get into download mode
Removing the battery and holding power button for a minute to do s oft reset and drain power did not help
Putting the unit in a freezer bag and into the freezer for an hour did not help
Leaving it charging overnight did not help
Using USB Jig method did not work
Here is the sequence of events, as best as I can recall, that led me to this state:
Device was rooted with CWM recovery installed and Android 3.2.4
I then installed FoxHound PsychoMantis 2 custom ROM so I could try ICS (bad idea for a noob)
I ran into the problem "Unfortunately, Samsung keypad has stopped" and device making it really slowwwwwww!!!
I then tried to go back to the stock version using Heimdall 1.3.2 and heimdall-frontend (build from source for my Ubuntu 11.04) and the XXJVU_heimdall.tar.gz heimdall firmware package. At this point the device was fully charged and I was still able to get into recovery mode but was getting "ERROR: Setting up interface failed!" from heimdall-frontend when flashing.
At some point after this I must have turned power off to get out of download mode and then could never turn the device on after.
I ordered a USB jig from Amazon and tried the USB jig method but that did not make any difference to the problem
Is there any thing else for me to try? If not, is Mobile Tech Videos JTAG service my best bet?
Thank for your help and patience with a noob.
What instructions did u follow to do this operation? I think its interesting people think they'll get more help if they put Noob on the page somewhere. "I'm a noob." I'm gonna try that with the IRS next tax year. "Sorry but I can't file this year.". " why not sir?". "Oh. I'm noob at it.". "Oh **** really?! Nmind then its all good. No need to file."

Looks like you flashed some i9000 firmware. Depending on how far the flash went, you may be bricked to the point of needing a JTAG repair. I suggest MobileTechVideos, they've had good reviews.
[Solved] Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 wont turn on
I finally decided to take the device back to AT&T as it was under warranty. It turns out the problem was a dead battery! It was a shocker to find out that this device will not turn on if the batter is dead (or not installed) even if the power is plugged in. Can any one explain how this is possible and why Samsung chose such a questionable design? It seems to means that to troubleshoot a dead phone one must have a working spare batter!

I've had some issues if my phone dies I just can't get it back on yet either...
I've found that if I pull the batt plug in the usb put in the batt and go into the 'forced upload mode' (as long as I'm able to still get it that far I can bring it back)
the problem I have is that sometimes it seems like it goes into this mode, and then restarts... after a while i'm able to get it to stay in this mode, and then i believe it is able to charge the battery;
I don't know what the deal is, I tohuhgt that charging while device off was now enabled (I believe before if the device was so dead it couldn't load a kernel it couldn't charge or something like that)
anyway; i thought that was in the kernels maybe it's not maybe i need to use something else, maybe our problems are unrelated -- my best advice ... try to get it into downloader (I have a kindle Fire charger that is 5v 1.8a or so, more than the phone needs but I stick it on there and then fight it off and on for sometimes 2 days...) it's *#$(# annoying I can tell you that -- but it ain't quite bricked ... Good luck broseph.
I am having a problem with my Galaxy S3 when plugged into USB. It wont recognize the USB connection via laptop or charge via laptop or Samsung charger. Tried three official Samsung cables and chargers, 2 computers, and still nothing. The only time it recognizes anything is when the phone is in Download Mode. In which I can restore firmware and everything else. However, no matter what firmware I put, it still will not recognized the USB or charge. If anybody has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
There are different drivers that need to be installed. As it recognizes the download mode seems like CDC driver is installed, but if you download kies, it should install all the necessary drivers automatically. Did you try it with a different computer? If this doesn't help then your last option is to factory reset.
Hope this helps

Downloaded Kies. Has all the correct drivers. Tried two different computers. Have two Galaxy S3's, swapped out batteries. Both batteries are good in one phone. The other phone just wont recognize USB or charge in any situation. Factory reset it 3 times. Cleared everything off the phone. Didnt change anything. Factory ROM no kernel hacks or anything. Cables are genuine Samsung that came with the phone. Used mine and my friend's cable for his S3. When you plug the phone in when the power is off, u can see the battery, but then the screen goes black and doesnt charged. Also we charged up both batteries fully using one good S3 proving both batteries are good. Im out of ideas..Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it!!

Well if you say, that you did a full wipe, just curious that after factory reset did you restored it from a backup or started new. I recommend start new. Even if this doesn't help than it definitely seems a hardware problem. Get it checked.
Just wanted to share. I had a Iphone 4s and suddenly it stopped charging through a wall charger and used to charge through a usb, after numerous restores I got it checked and there seems the problem.

I have the exact same problem on my note 2, have been searching everywhere but cant seem to find an answer.
First of all hello xda, long time reader, first time poster.
I know it's been a long time since the last post, but instead of starting a new thread i suppose it's better to post here.
I got the same problem a few weeks ago and tried everything software-wise and still nothing. I noticed that when i turn my phone on i get a notification "USB connector connected" which leads me to believe that something is keeping the connector busy and unable to charge/connect exept when in d/l mode. Has anyone found a fix for this yet? I'd like to try and fix it myself before taking it in for repair.

I have exact same problem. Seemed to occur out of the blue. I took it off the car charger and everything appeared as normal until the next day I go to charge it with wall charger and no response, except for the grey battery image appearing for 2 seconds when and only when powered off and plugging in the charger. Tried many cables/chargers to no avail. There is also no response connecting to a PC, when the phone is on.
For the moment I can charge the battery(s) with an external charger and still use my phone.
I made a simple USB cable current monitor once to measure current consumption of portable devices. Just a 0.1ohm resistor in series with the USB V_BUS (+5V) pin. Since this fault occurred, the V_BUS pin current after plugging in the charger, starts off 250mA for few seconds while the grey battery image appears then the phone shuts down with a 5mA residual current. Clearly the battery is not being charged. Previous to the fault, V_BUS current during full charge is around 950mA. I'm sure its a hardware problem.

Hi all
My phone was shutting off instantly without any reason for couple of days and then I would turn it on. My battery was also acting weird. Sometimes when I turn it on it was showing 30% battery while before it was at 70%. Today, it turned off and wouldn't turn on. I tried Vol Up/Down+HOME+Power button and Home+Power button but it wouldn't turn on or go into recovery/download mode. When I put it on charge, charge symbol shows for a second and then it would turn off and then again on and off and continues forever.
Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.
Either your battery is not accepting charge or is not getting any charge.
If you know someone else with an S2, ask to borrow their battery to find out whether your phone will boot.
I've a suspicion that you're going to have to replace either the battery or the USB charger port.....or maybe even both.
But the first thing to find out is if the phone boots with a 'known good' battery.
my wife says I'm a phone geek....
I'd have to agree......

Thanks a lot buddy for your reply.
An hour ago I put the phone on charge for about 15 minutes and the battery charging symbol stabilized. Then I pressed Power button and phone booted and was working fine. Then just to check, I shut off and it won't start again and came back to the same old problem. I would definitely battery from same phone and will let you know about the updates.
Regards,
Its a very weird problem. I have put the battery of my brother's SGS2 in my phone and the problem is same. Then when I put my battery in my brother's mobile then that mobile shows the same problem. After switching batteries many time, my brother's SGS2 with its own battery would show the same problem. In other words that mobile was dead also. Then I plugged out the battery from the other mobile and left it out for some time and plugged in again and mobile was ok.
After that I didn't risk to switch batteries again. I have the feeling that problem is not at hardware end. For some reasons my mobile's software is corrupting batteries. I remember to have re-calibrated the battery couple of days ago with software named "battery recalibrate". I am lost at what the problem might be and what to do anymore.
Pls help.

Any idea/suggestion to boot the device.
Jig to force it to download mode
Just for the record. I discovered the solution to be ridiculously simple. Battery pins connection was loose and by just putting a foiled tissue paper at below corner of battery to strengthen connection of pins, all was back to normal. Ahh! it was such a relief.
Happy days glad you sorted it:thumbup:
Hello everybody!,
My name is Ferdi and usually if i need help i can find it somewhere on this forum but for this problem I searched the whole internet but couldn't find a thing about it
The problem:
Last week I turned off my S3. it went out for 1 second, suddenly after that the screen turns on again telling me: Downloading, do not turn of target.
So i didn't turn it off because i thought it was actually downloading. it wasn't downloading but it did manage to get my battery empty real quick.
When my battery was empty i tried to charge it at home but it didn't respond to anything (different chargers, connecting it to PC etc.)
I got a new battery thinking my Li-Ion battery had its best time, this new battery did wel and i was able to charge it when it was on.
after i put it off once more it showed the same "Downloading" message again and i pulled out the battery so it wouldn't get empty again.
Tried to reboot a minute later, S3 booted like it was supposed too.
Summary:
The thing is that I can only charge it when it's on.
Does anybody know what I can do to fix it because i turned it off again leaving the battery in it and the battery is now empty and the telephone does not respond to anything anymore.
Thank you very much in advance!
Kind regards,
Ferdi

Thanks for your quick respond,
do you think it is a pure software problem?
the main issue for me is that i can't boot it into download mode even now because it won't charge when it's off and the battery is down.
Charge your battery in an external charger or someone else's S3.
Download a full stock rom from sammobile and flash using odin, follow instructions from 'how to return to stock guide'.
Once stock then test charging function, if still the same then hardware fault - you'll need a service centre.
