[Q] Rooting? What am I doign wrong? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've reflashed my phone with odin back to I9100XXLSJ/I9100OXXLS1/I9100XXLS6. I've tried various unsecure kernels but I can't get any past the yellow triangle. So that I can use super-one-click to root the phone.
What am I doing wrong?
Is it because my phone is still locked to my carrier? Must I unlock it that way first?

That software says it requires root. I'm trying to get the phone to boot an unsecure Kernel so that I can root the phone. I'm not getting past the triangle.

which kernels have you tried? I think it may be in the kernels..
Why not revert back to stock rom, root and then flash leaked JB 4.1.2?

International card? try entropay.com.
Remember to get mobile odin (it's got the everroot option, so you'll never worry about rooting again), titanium back up pro (well...back up & freeze apps), betterbatterystats (to check what's goin on with you batt in case needed), cpu spy (free), busybox instaler(s) from the market.
For network unlocking, try this.
Damn, should get a comission for all this

thanks for all this info.
Entropay has me on hold for review. So I can forget about getting instant payment.
There are only 2 companies selling Google play store credits with electronic delivery. One in Walmart and canceled my order because I was not located in the US, which is stupid because it's electronic delivery. And the other still has not replied to my order.
I already tried that program but it does not work for me. I do not have a GPU assisted laptop to get the code, and the replacing the NV_data.bin did not work for me. It still asks me for the code.
This is so daunting just to do something so simple like pay for something. I'm at the point where I'm willing to pay $5 bucks commission to anyone that will buy me and deliver a 10 dollar google play store code.

And you're sayin' that google wallet turned down your cards? try support, always works.

The app is free here on xda, have a search for it.

Trying to unroot

Okay, this is driving me nuts. I've found multiple posts on how to unroot my phone but ALL the links are dead for Odin and everything I need to do it. SOMEBODY PLEASE throw me some links that work and instructions! I rooted it with the one click root method thing. I gotta get this thing back to stock so I can get my replacement since the screen is cracked.

Thats great...but when they go to test it and find out that its been hacked, Verizon is going trace that phone back to you and charge you for the replacement. As the poster above stated, its not worth the risk when it takes 5min to odin back to stock.
they actually still can tell that the phone has been flashed even if you odin back to stock. The only way to truly completely hide that the phone has been rooted is to use a usb jig and reset the custom binary download counter.
But they honestly don't care. This is all much ado over nothing.

On the new devices that have flash counters yes...but from my understanding not on the fascinates or older devices. Maybe Im wrong tho?
I was pretty sure that the fascinated had this counter as it is triggered when Odin flashes the phone.
Anyway, I'll try to look into it if I get time.

Warranty Question

My phone broke so the power button no longer works. I called AT&T and they are going to send my a new (or refurbished) phone. My question is what would be the easiest way to reset my flash counter so they don't know i voided my warranty. the way i see it i have two options:
1. Buy a jig really fast and use that
2. Flash an ICS rom and install Triangle Away ( an app by chainfire).
I'd prefer number 2 but as my power button is broken, I would not be able to manually boot into download mode when i'm done to restore the stock rom. Would flashing an older version of miui or any other rom with an option in the interface to boot to download mode work in my case?
Any input is appreciated. I would really not like to pay $400 is they found i voided my warranty.
Sounds like jig is the.only real option. Maybe find someone locally who has one?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
You have 10 days to return it, I think.
You can also buy the parts at a local Radio Shack or other electronics parts store. You need 401,000 ohms across pins 2 and 5 (I think, typing from memory here. Verify before acting.) It's not as easy as a jig, but can be done in a few hours or less.
Best bet is to make it yourself if you can handle basic soldering..Otherwise find an ebay seller within a few hundred miles that has a good rep for fast shipping. Tough to navigate w/o power, good luck!

You can also boot into download mode buy powering off your phone and holding volume up and down buttons and hooking your phone to your computer works for me everytime.

Google wallet issue possible fix.

Okay for the last two days I haven't been able to connect to google wallet or add a google card. I rooted my phone and I see the unsupported devices showing. Tried to add and failed stuck on initializing . I called google wallet they told me there is an issue on there end and it will be fixed wait a couple of days. So today there was an update. I did the update tried again. Didn't work. So I cleared the data and reset the setting in google wallet. Same issue. Then I thought maybe if I unroot and try it maybe it will work. Well in the #SU app u can hide the root so the phone thinks its unrooted. Under enable root . Uncheck it to disable it. Reset and cleared data google wallet. Tried it and it works. Well I'm probably late about this. But I figured I let I guys know maybe it will help someone. Thanks for reading. If it did then hit that thanks. Peace.

I called the money network and they said they were having a problem with EVO let's and that they were working on it. I think I'm going to exchange this one anyway.

they have the evo activation service shut down to try and fix the problems we are having.. so no matter what until they turn them back on you cant activate your account.
The way I did this is if your rooted disable Su. In the Su app. Then go into google wallet reset app in settings. Exit. Then go to applications in settings then go to all on right. Find wallet. Then clear data. Back over to wallet activate again. Setup password. Try to activate prepaid card again. Make sure you take the update in the play store if you didn't before doing any of this. Let me know.

I called g wallet customer service again and they said that the update will fix it for some, but they are not finished with all of the maintenence on their servers. Until then (they will email me), G wallet will still be broken for some. I think that this possible fix is just a coincidence.

Query: does this problem only affect those who rooted before using Google Wallet on the stock ROM?
I want to root but I am afraid of losing this functionality. My Wallet works on my stock ROM un-rooted, obviously.
It has nothing to do with being rooted or not... They have turned off the service for new phones to fix the problems.. so if youarent already active.. your probablyout.of luck.

[Q] Avoiding/resetting the TMo flash counter?

Is there any way that maybe I've missed to either a) root the TMo GS3 without triggering the counter (I saw methods for AT&T and others) or b) reset the counter after triggering it? I've searched and searched without finding anything. Is there anything out there or would it be fairly simple to create something? I'm willing to get my hands dirty to create this if somebody is able to help me through he process.
Are the methods AT&T users use reproducible for us?
Bump
I'm looking for a way too. Havent rooted yet till I find a way. I have 30 days to try out Tmo through costco but I want to root so I can restore my apps+ data back via titanium.

Costco is the best! Great prices on phones too! There will be a way to reset it eventually. That is my GUESS.
Okay, I've found the process for creating the proper files so this can be done. It'll just be a specific Odin file, slightly tweaked from a stock Odin file.
I've never tried this before although it seems to be fairly standard with Galaxy devices. I don't believe ANYBODY has ever tried this on a T999 before.
I'm thinking I'll have something to test with this weekend. Anybody interested in helping me to test this? If you do, you do so knowing that this may
1) trigger your counter anyways, and
2) brick your phone into oblivion and make it blow up and kill your dog
If anybody's willing to take the plunge, I'll chime back in later to coordinate the testing. I need others to risk triggering their counter as I have 1 and only 1 device with the counter still at 0 and I want to personally see it successfully in action before I publicly release it. But if I miss something and trigger my counter, then I'll never be able to test it again until we find a way to reset the counter.
Thanks for taking the initiative. Hope you get successful results.

Anybody else interested in helping test? Remember, I'm probably going to brick your phone and make it turn into a Decepticon where it'll kill your goldfish. And more realistically, if I mess it up, it'll probably be a soft-brick that will require a stock Odin flash and/or it'll trigger your flash counter.
So I'm mostly finished creating the file for this but I'm stopping. mrRobinson beat me to it, and apparently did so last night!

Bypassing pattern screen lock

Hey guys,
I have a device which i need to unlock (screen pattern lock).
I have no details regarding it's google account/PIN or any other method that allows unlocking it without using the pattern.
I tried downloading aroma file manager that allows access to the password file and delete it, but when i tried to install the aroma manager (through recovery, from an sd card) i keep getting these errors:
e: footer is wrong
e: signature verification failed
is there any way to solve this?
i can't access the device, so i can't enable debugging mode and things like that...is there any solution, besides wiping everything back to factory settings?
thanks!

The only way to bypass is with a nowipe tar. If you don't know what that is it's probably too much of a PITA to attempt.
