I'm stuck in 3g what do I do? - HTC Droid DNA

Ok I know this my fault in doing this but I just wanna know how to fix this. (If there's a way to fix).
So the other day I was poking around and I made the stupid mistake of flashing one of those oversea roms that's non-cdma. Since then I've restored a working rom and several others trying to get my 4g back up and working w/ no luck. I've called verizon thinking maybe they could reformat it for me or do something to reset my connection. That didn't work. I couldn't tell them the obvious so they weren't much help.
They are sending me a new sim card but I just tried my friends 4g lte sim card in my phone and that didn't work either. I'm pretty sure the one being sent wont fix my problem.
I'm stumped on what to do at this point. I've went into diagnostic mode (##778) but I'm completely lost as to what I'm looking for that controls my connection to 4g.
If anyone has anything they might be able to offer me as to help my situation I would be so greatful. This phone on 3g sucks really bad.

I'm not sure if this will work but you can try using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.andirc.lteonfoff
Then set your preferred network type to CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto

At this point there's really no way your radio could have been touched. The only way we can even flash a radio right now is through an RUU and I'm pretty sure you can't flash the wrong RUU. The problem is most likely either a software issue somewhere, or perhaps something on verizon's end that got messed up.
What rom are you running? There is an option in viper rom to access HTC's "hidden" menu which has a "select network type" dropdown. I'm thinking that may be what got messed up. I know there's a number you can dial to access said menu on other roms, but I have no idea what the number is.
If you are on viper go into venom tweaks -> misc -> phone info to find that dropdown. If you aren't on viper it may be worth it to flash it and see if that does the trick. I don't know what else to suggest. I would start there.
EDIT: didn't see the post above me but that app brings you to the menu I'm talking about. Not sure if it will work on the DNA though. Also, I have a buddy that was messing around a bunch with his phone and was having the same symptoms and he said he had to RUU and it was fixed.
So I'd say first, try to get to that menu^^^ either with that app or through viperRom, and if that doesn't work flash the RUU

I would flash dsb's stock kernel boot.img and modules package.

Hey I just wanted to say I fell into the same issue. I wanted to try it and flashed the global Rom and wasnt getting anywhere with it :banghead: I RUU'd back and never had 4g again, even after countless attempts and apps and mods... I got a CLNR from VZW and its been going good. I either blame my stupidity or the fault of the phone since I was having issues with the SIM card not being read at random times. Hope this helps.

I know this might sound stupid but are you sure the last ROM you flashed has the "4G" icon in the drawables folder lol. It might actually be running 4G but only showing 3G. Have you actually noticed a loss of coverage and speed? You might also want to turn off your 3G functionality and see what happens
Sorry if this sounds ignorant, I'm from Australia and we have only just released 4G and it is not that much better yet until it is covering the population

Hey just to comment on this regardless if it was directed to me or not. When I was going through this problem with no 4g I reverted back to original RUU... So at that time it was a stock image. I even went as far as flashing the stock/rooted flashable obtained through here. Still no good. Speed test results came back with evdo rev 0 speed of approx. 1.3mbps down and approx .60kbps upload all the time.. I even switched the SIM into another DNA and got 4g... This was definately device issue... Hard to say if it was due to my curiosity or device was a defect with the SIM card no reading st various times.

So how did you get 4G working? I fell into this issue yesterday. I lost 4G altogether. I was able at one point to switch it over to LTE only, but since yesterday afternoon, I haven't been able to at all. I'm currently stuck on 4G and every time I switch it to LTE only, it just gives me an X with the signal bars. I've had 4G in 100% of my area, but I cannot get it to swap back.
I'm getting so frustrated. I tried my SIM in my Nexus, and it, of course, connected to 4G fine.

Do you mean your stuck in 3g? If so the only way I was able to get this to work was go through troubleshooting with VZW and get a replacement device and claim it was defective.

Yep. I'm completely stuck in 3G. I cannot get it to switch out of 3G at all. The only thing I haven't tried is a brand new SIM card. :/

Are you using *#*#4636#*#* or an app to change to LTE only? I would suggest to change it to the correct one that is mentioned from someone else a couple of posts up.

I was using that app the user posted for the Thunderbolt. It accesses the same hidden menu. I've been switching it via that app, and it will not connect to 4G at all. Right now it's just sitting there with full bars but no 3G or 4G symbol.

Yep. It just stays on 3G. I've taken the SIM out multiple times. I've restarted the phone at least 20 times within the past 1.5 days. I have changed the radio settings. I cannot get it to go to 4G at all. :l
I swapped the SIM to the Nexus to test it and see if I have 4G, and I definitely do. I checked the VZW site to see if it pulled up the Nexus. It did. When I swapped the SIM back to the DNA, it still shows the Nexus. This was yesterday at probably 5 PM when I tried the switch.. :l

I would get the phone relocked, RUU'd back to factory and ask for a replacement. Mention that its not the SIM card because you already replaced it. Ask for a replacement.

Sounds good. I'm on an employee account so it should be pretty smooth with their tech support. Also, the only problem I currently am having is the fact that I have the Employee Edition of the DNA so I don't know if they're going to send me another red one since they've been out of stock with that one since like the second day it was available. I'll call them in a little bit here. I'm trying to back up everything before I RUU and what not.
I hope there is a thread somewhere for me to follow step by step. Question! Do you know if relocking it takes off that Tampered logo?

yeam same thing. at first they told me they didnt have any employee edition replacements. I would ask them or wait until they have one because my replacement has a red back w/o a serial number. :what:

Ugh.. Fantastic. Did they offer you a different phone in return? I might just switch over to the Note 2 or 8x EE if that's the case. :/*
Do I follow this? I don't understand how to load that RUU then.

Well, I did it finally. I RUU'd the device, and it's still stuck in 3G. I cannot get it out of there. So I'm going to call them tomorrow and see what they can do for me.
Do you know if they'll offer me the same device or a different one?

Hey, well if you have the employee edition. U will need to send the employee phone along with the wireless charger if you went with regular DNA with the black back..cost difference...unless you get the droid DNA employee edition replacement.
Now as far as the option to get a different
Phone... Probably the junk razr m or windows 8x. . I wouldn't count on anything besides this as the option though.

Really? I was hoping they would say the Note 2, and I would be happy. Then again, I really want to try that 8X though with Nokia and Verizon going to announce a new phone soon, I'd be better to hold off I think..
Anyway, I'm going to see what they can do for me when I give them a call. While I like this phone, I just hate that I can't make it 100% stock AOSP, and the battery life is so mediocre.
We'll see what happens. >_<

When I was having the issue I was hoping for Note 2 as well...
Goodluck. Let me know how it goes...

I fixed black screen after htc white screen

My friend thought he bricked his phone and wanted to throw it away but i talked him into giving it to me. So when i got itthere was nothing on his phone internal and nothing on his sd card. So am guessing it was bricked but i was able to get into hboot mode so i thought its not brickied so i downloaded a lot of rom and all that good stuff and i came across onnthat worked its even on ics but the thing is i cant get signal so am gonna mess with it some more and see if i cant get a signal i will up date later tonight seeing that am exicited and cant sleep i might have a new rezound for sale later on ebay :0
still no signal
does anyone know how to get signal back after ics update
There's no official ICS update, so if the phone is on ICS then it's running one of the ROMs a dev made. Look in
Settings > About Phone Software Information > More
and see if you can tell which one and then check that thread and see if there's been any signal issues. Mine has the ROM name under "Build Number".
still the same
does yours have a signal and texting or i mean a fully fuctional phone
Do you have an activated SIM chip in it? If not then there's your answer.
signal
Ive read about getting a new radio for signal now Ive used google xda and other forums but have now idea on how to get a new radio would you now how to get one for the htc rezound. I found a page but didnt want to download because it said could give you black screen and I dont want that agian. If you can give me the radio number from your phone so I can download the right one PLZ.
OH YEAH
when I go to the HBOOT screen and it scans file in grenn letters one always comes out PH98DIAG.NBH no image or wrong image what does that mean do you know. sorry for all the ?s but I am new and this is fun learning all this stuff.
sim
YES the sim is in there and it is active using mine from my phone Ive tried everything from removing the sim and putting it back in and rebooting and the back cover is on
Your best bet would be to flash a GB kernel, or if you're on a GB kernel you should flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467329 . It includes the firmware update that will update radio, hboot etc.

^Forgot to mention this derp. But he is correct, you would need a new sim that they would program for the rezound.

Reactivating 3g device permanently disables LTE SIM card

Upon receiving my Rezound last week, I turned it on to tinker not knowing that the phone would automatically dial activation on its own. Not wanting to use my Rezound until I had familiarized myself with what steps it took to unlock/root/customize, I reactivated my DINC.
When I finally got my Rezound to where I wanted it to be, sans Verizon bloatware and new ROM, I tried to reactivate with the *22899 method. The call would go through, you would hear that annoying “programming” music for a split second, then the phone would drop the call and a message would pop up saying "Phone Activation: A Verizon wireless SIM card has activated your service and updated your phone's roaming capabilities." However, this did not work. So next I tried activation through the Verizon Website, which also did not work.
Finally I called customer support and Mike informed me that I would need to get a new SIM card from a store, which I did. FYI, you do have to dial *22899 the first time a card is used but not after, ie. changing to a new 4g Phone. Rezound is good to go. Hope this saves people a week of problems!
TL;DR Reactivating a 3g device permanently disables your LTE SIM card, and you will have to get a new one.

Just to debunk this mis-information before it spreads, doing *228xx does nothing whatsoever on a 4G LTE device at this point, except play the music and then not work. The only reason yours didn't work is because your SIM card was retired. The SIMOTA process implies its own internal push method to activate and whoever told you that was reaching to impress you with some BS. I seem to hear this rumor from time to time for whatever reason. I'm not sure where that mis-information comes from but ignore it.
The only thing that ever needs to be done to activate a 4G device is:
1. Add new SIM card to account.
2. Power on.
3. Ensure data is turned on.
4. If it doesn't go through, repeat step 2 until it activates.
^ This.... confirmed.
Just do a google of "*228 is not for lte" and you will find hundreds of postings saying the same thing. *228xx does not work for LTE phones on Verizon.
When I got my Rezound (showed up at work) I didn't have time to properly move over to it yet, so I pulled the SIM card so I could "play" with it until I got home and had time to properly set it up.
When I inserted it, it didn't switch over properly, called support and they reactivated it without any issues.
Could someone give a step by step process of going from Rezound to an older non-sim card phone and back?
I was going to switch back to another phone temporarily while I unlocked my Rezound. I never got around to it yet, but am curious how to deactivate the Rezound, switch and then go back to Rezound. I remember when I picked up the Rezound, I powered off my old phone, and when I turned on the Rezound it automatically activated. Never had a phone with a sim before, so don't know the process.
From what I've gathered, the steps would be:
1: Power down and remove sim from Rezound.
2: Activate older phone
3: Mess with Rezound and get it set up
4: Power down old phone
5: Insert sim back to Rezound and power on. Phone should automatically activate.
Am I correct?

When I got the new SIM card yesterday, I could not make calls until I *228xx. I had even powered down and restarted, this was the only thing that did it for me to be able to call out. Lol, maybe I'm crazy, but I watched it with my own 2 eyes... AGAIN, this was only because it had to initially activate the card. After that, you should be able to just switch.
EDIT: I called Verizon and they said that it most likely was just a coincidence that it happened to go through after doing *228xx and that it just needed more time to connect to the network. So, I am wrong in thinking that this was what made my call go through. Props to Phantom!

You are correct. You will have to get a new SIM card at the store if you go back to 3g and want to go back 4g.
Also, Phantom, the only reason I argued any of this, was that when I turned on the Rezound last week for the first time, I swear (but could me mistaken) it autodialed *22899, no one told me to do this. This was my first 4g phone/SIM and I assumed this was what needed to be done.

You can activate your 3g device without deactivating your 4G sim. Just call Verizon customer service to switch back to 4G device. Sometimes when you call it takes less than 30 seconds, sometimes 5 minutes-depends on who you get.

The system is programmed to automatically retire a 4G LTE SIM card when you deactivate it for any reason at any time. Anything other than that is purely an anomaly.

What misinformation are you referring to? 100% my sim was not retired. 100% I deactivated and reactivated without a new sim. The misinformation as far as I am concerned and with my personal experience is in the subject of the post. Also since this came up I was on the phone with Verizon this morning for other reasons with an agent that was claiming 13years with the company and I asked him about this scenario. According to him it doesn't retire your sim. I have another Rezound in the family and for kicks I'll try to do it again tonight. Working as intended or not I wanted to report my experience. I am curious have you even tried this yourself?

Considering the job I have, yea, I "try it" probably 15-50 times a day and I have seen 1 occasion where a 4G SIM didn't retire as it was intended to.
I think you may be misunderstanding the entire situation though. We are talking about when you have a 4G phone active on your number(123-456-7899)and then you activate a 3G phone on your same number(123-456-7899), in that case it retires your 4G SIM card. If you then want to re-activate your 4G device, you need a new 4G SIM card.

Rezound International on ICS Leak

So I put the latest .10 ICS leak on my phone yesterday because I can't wait for the OTA since i'm leaving soon. I downloaded the 4G on off app and am thinking I should be able to pop in any SIM card and it should work on GSM. Is the phone unlocked? Also I might need to use my normal Verizon SIM to use in Italy and Spain. The verizon reps said if I left it in it would work just fine. Is this true? I currently don't have any GSM cards to test with and I've been looking everywhere for the answer but no success. Help would be amazing.
Thanks in advance
For full GSM support I believe you need to install one of the custom roms with it added...

With GB or the ICS leak you probably can get basic calling and texts with a GSM cell company sim card.
With the conrom ROM you should also get mms and data to work. Supposedly everything works.
Also, I suspect gsm antenna is not in the extended battery cover, so you should use the standard back cover that came with the phone.
I personally have not tried gsm in my rezound, so the above advise might be incorrect. this is just something I am interested in.

p.s. T-Mobile sells a $1 sim card with 10 minutes of talk time, an internet deal. So you can buy this $1 simm to test with.
p.p.s. You will also need to go into the settings and add the apn settings for the cell company whose sim you are using. data and mms won't work without this.

With GB or the ICS leak you probably can get basic calling and texts with a GSM cell company sim card.

Thank you so much. I just need calling and data and mms to work. I'm just going to google how to change the APN setting as you said. Thanks a lot for the help man. I have the ICS leak which is supposed to support global roaming straight from VZW.
Well, there is a thanks button you can click on.
I do not know much about Verizon's New global roaming, bit I suspect it will be expensive per minute. Using a local cell company's sim card probably will cost less for long visits overseas.
I wrote an app called HZUTILS which can also do the radio changes like the LTE on off app. My app is free, also does a few other functions, and if you click on an advertisement I earn a few cents.
The CONROM is available in the development forum. During installation one is asked GSM or LTE. no easy switching back and forth. I suggest you make a nandroid backup first with Ramon ra recovery or the touch recovery. Restoring the backup is a method for returning to LTE. Or one can reinstall the conrom and select LTE.
If you look through the development forum you will find other gsm ROMs. The CONROM does both LTE and GSM, was made from the latest .10 ICS leak, and sounds like it is very reliable.
p.s. let me know how this works for you.
Thank you but I don't wanna root my phone really.. I forgot something last time and almost bricked it. Well not really but it was scary. My only question is really can I just switch it from your app as it is now because I can or must I have a custom Rom for some type of reason?

I recall, a few months ago, reading a very long multiple page posting about people having various levels of success with stock GB and changing the radio setting using LTE on off app. People were successful with phone calls and texting, but had difficulties with mms and data.
People did strange things to get data working, and it only worked for some people. I think it involved driving the phone in a car to get somewhere with no cell signal, then back home? Not sure, as I don't recall it very well.
Then people started typing in the APN for their gsm provider. This evening, just for fun I tried typing in the APN for T-Mobile into .10 ICS leak rezound, and it would not get saved. No error message. Verizon appears to have locked out the capability to add a non Verizon APN. So, yes, I think a gsm ROM is needed.
BTW, there must be plenty of rezound owners using GSM who can more confidently give you more concrete advise. They can tell you what they tried, what worked, what didn't, and what is the best approach. I think the answer is a GSM ROM, or paying high roaming charges to Verizon.
Alright ill just try and get a sim off someone on at&t and see what happens. But thanks a lot man I hope I get an answer from someone doing it. You were a lot of help ill let you know how it goes!!

I just received the official Verizon ICS in the last hour. I am poking around looking for the global feature, since it is THE promised reason I bought the phone. Offhand, I do not see the global feature anywhere . Network mode still only shows' LTE/CDMA' or 'CDMA only' as the choices, so it seems that 'global' is still not official from Verizon in the ICS as just shipped.
The LTE ON/OFF app seems to have a few more options than when I last looked, but I've no idea what's may have changed.
I put in a tmobile SIM card and changed the settings in the app to GSM and wcdma and it worked calling and texting! It didn't have data but if you go to mobile network settings and access point names I feel like you could add the apn and be golden using data and mms over gsm. I'm Hoping this is the truth but I don't have anything to test it with

I'm on the leak from three months ago, in Afghanistan. Popped in a sim card from a shop on base and it works with no problems. Calls only though no data. I'm using the extended battery. Had to use the lte on off app to put it in gsm.

GSM switch gone in ICS OTA?
Looks like option to switch to GSM is gone. Dialing *#*#4636#*#* does nothing...
that option to show network modes when dailing *#*#4636#*#* is removed in latest RUUs and official OTA, but however you may flash any of ROMs available to get GSM

So SMS worked with the ICS OTA, both send and receive? Last time I tried 2 months ago under Gingerbread, GSM calls were fine, but could only receive SMS text, could not sent texts, and never got data to work.
I've spent over 1/2 of the last 3 months overseas, so this is a big deal to me. Even if just the calls and SMS send/receive work, I will be pleased. VZ told me the global feature is not in this latest Verizon ICS OTA, but maybe the inner workings are there and they just haven't put in the frontend and any VZ profitmaking carrier lockouts?
I am off to South Africa next Friday. Sounds like I will have to get an MTN sim in ZA and try again when I get there. Maybe this ICS OTA will have some value to me afterall. I'll try to remember to post back here, whether it works or not. If it all works, however, I'm pretty sure the posting will only be redundant info, since my screams of giddiness would be heard around the world... afterall, I've been using an old unlocked GSM RAZR flip phone when I travel.

The LTE ON OFF app still seems to allow access. However, until I get overseas I'm not sure how to tell if it is truly switching/working
I only tried receiving a text/: sorry I can't confirm sending. But if you flash a gsm Rom which I might everything works

AT&T can't call, signal drop

So recently my phone has been acting strange. When I try to make a phone call I get no dial tone then the call ends. But sometimes it goes through. Sometimes the signal bars will drop and then I'll get the no service icon. Then again other times the signal will drop then switch to E and the call will go through.
I've tried multiple radios and builds, and now I'm back on stock hoping AT&T will get me a new phone.
Any ideas or suggestions concerning the issue or trying to convince AT&T I didn't mess with the phone?

So after trying to get my issue fixed at an on site corporate ATT, I could not replicate my issue because they probably have a cell booster in the building haha. So they gave me a new SIM card which did jack.
A couple days later, I contacted support online which did some troubleshooting with me. Then I was asked about warranty... I told the truth: unlocked, rooted, custom Rom, stock, unrooted, relocked.
Apparently this was not an issue. As long as there was no screen damage and the water marker was good, they said I was covered, which surprised me but maybe I'm just under informed.
So they sent me a new HOX+ and I sent my old one back to them. Now my issue is completely resolved, for now... I've heard many go through the same back and forth with these devices

Or may be finally they woke up....
In India at least we can do whatever we want to do with our devices (software wise)... and warranty is still covered . And technically it should!

A little late to this, but I am having the same issue in southern US. Made a thread about it, but no responses. I never found your thread because I was looking to specific I suppose. I determined that the HSPA antenna actually failed on my phone. You can have full LTE signal then when you make a call you get one bar of EDGE
This makes my FOURTH AT&T HOX+. First one had a loose speaker that buzzed. Second had a radio issue that caused random static and interference during calls. Third one has this problem. Let's hope fourth is a winner. Gah, I used to love HTC, but four of the same phones with manufacturing defects?

[Q] UNBELIEVABLE issue

Had a Rezound from Asurion running 4.03.605 and Hboot 2.27. All was well. Left Los Angeles on 12/21. Arrived the next day in the Bay Area on 12/22. And since then? Not able to make or recive a call. All else works: 4G, internet, texting. Just calls. On the phone with Verizon for 1 hour, resettting all data info to my account and phone, no luck. Two hours in store getting new SIM and resetting system...no luck. Another Asurion replacement sent....new SIM card and THE SAME THING! Issue was escalated to Verizon networking team and I spent two hours on the phone yesterday trying to determine issue. Now if the SIM card and all matching items (IMEI) matched up, it should all work, right? The same SIM card was put into two different rezounds...one rooted, one not (fresh out of box) and neither could make a call. The tech finally stated that the software on the phones was the global leak of 4.03 and not a release authorized by Verizon...my reaction - "What?" The tech went so far as to suggest installing the last global leak - 4.05 and new radios and see what happens. Did just that...AND STILL NOTHING. Phone is perfect. Just no phone. Call goes out, connects, then lost. Same for incoming. No one seems to have a solution except blaming the phone software, tower differences between here and L.A....on and on. I find it all BS....because if the plder 4G SIMS are not compatibile, wouldn't many people across the USA have issues? So I come to ask for some of your thoughts. I am plagued right now. Have lost income due to my lack of access and reachability. And being two months shy of my anniversary for an upgrade, the great Corporation will not budge and get me a new working phone. This is a nightmare. I only imagine that as soon as I get back to Los Angeles, the phone will "miraculously" work again.
FYI: I had my original Rezound running 4.05 and Hboot 2.28 back in July 2013...came to the same trip LA->Bay Area. Never had a problem.
Thanks for your time all!
New Sim and different phone with same issues really points to the issue being with the carrier... Not much you can do unfortunately.

ust outta curiosity...do you have data roaming and everything enabled under mobile network settings...that would be my only guess....if not then yes it is verizon...the fact that on 2 seperate phones there is an issue is what gives it away...there is a leaked hboot and radios of hboot 2.28 and the 2.23 radios but idk if this will help your issue

Of the two phones I have in my possesion, one is total stock 4.03.605.....wiped it clean. No calls. The other phone I hacked with Hboot 2.28 and the current radios + 4.05 software....still nothing. A lot of what the senior tech told me is that no phones use those big old SIM cards anymore. Heck, he couldn't even find ONE store that a similar phone I could swap my SIM into in order to see if a call could be made. 1 week now with no phone and no restitution from Verizon. All they want to do is seed me to the Edge program. No dice. I'm fighting this to the end It's clear as day this problem is WAY beyond my control or the phones....all on VZW.

OR....you can get a micro sim from them and buy a microsim to normal sim adaptor like this one http://www.walmart.com/ip/Small-Min...-Adapter-For-iPhone-4-4S-4GS-4th-Gen/28911641 ....im actually doing this currently with a straight talk microsim in the rezound....but again did you ensure all roaming settings are enabled under settings>mobile networks

Done it all with the roaming settings, thanks. But as we all surmise, it's Verizon's problem...old phone can't connect with current networks. They need to admit this and get me a new phone.
8 days with no phone capability and counting.
Just tell then it's your work phone, and that you need it for your job or else. Even most prepaid companies like SraightTalk would replace it of it was your work phone. ST even upgrades you, because it is their fault and not yours.

Two phones and two different SIMs... Very unlikely to have identical hardware issues in two different refurbished phones that is region specific.
