Why would you power down, when the sleep state is as efficient as it is? Do you all turn your devices completely off while you're not using your tablet, or do you just let it sleep?
Picture: My device sleeping for ~8 hours.

I turn every electronic device off at night when I'm going to sleep.
Its just a personal preference, I just don't like things running and getting wear and tear when I'm not using them at all.
My phone gets turned on when I wake up, but my tablet usually doesn't get turned on until almost 16 hours later due to work and school.

More than a preferenc, one needs a good, logical reason not to shut if OFF.
BTW: OP your attached picture doesn't open up.
Thank you both for your excellent opinions. This will make for a good argument. I'll do a little experiment... I'll charge my tablet up to 100%, and let it sit in a sleep state for 24 hours, and we'll see how much battery drain it experiences. Check back on Tuesday.

No one doesn't. I don't feel like shutting it off. I see virtually no battery drain yet apps i use for news feeds, twitter, etc are instantly available at a moments notice. This thread will be complete personal preference, I am aware there is no right or wrong answer here (you seem not to have that awareness) but in my head, there is no logical reason TO shut it off.

Some people have a need/desire for being able to receive and to know about timely updates of email, news, text messages and calls incoming to cell phone (via apps like cloudsms, tablet talk), etc whether it be for work or just for pleasure. It still baffles me why wptski thinks people have to justify it. Use the tablet however you want to use it. There's no right or wrong way. Where the heck did you read that it was horrible and awful to let your tablet sleep? Why do you think the makers of this tablet (and every single tablet ever created) incorporated the ability for the device to go into deep sleep, a state in which it consumes next to no battery?
I use my Nexus 10 as an alarm clock, and to receive calls and texts with Google Voice; I need it on at all times pretty much
I don't shut mine off. I turn wifi off when I'm done with it and have zero drain. I like to be able to just pick it up and surf the net or play a game. I don't like to wait for it to boot, plus I have a fair share of widgets on my home screen so it usually takes a while to load.

One has a reason for everything they do. If it's for real time receiving, emails news, etc., fine, that's a reason. To charge in sleep mode overnight without the previous mentioned reasons makes no sense at all.
I use the sleep mode if on battery when I leave the room for whatever. Sure they all have that feature but do think it was intended to be used as the for all extended charging times?

There you go, a reason. I didn't say it was right or wrong, just simply asked, why, which seemed to really bother some users. The one thing that I'm aware of is that there are some people here that don't like anyone to question why they do something.

It's just like Plug and Play. Do you unplug your mouse after you stop using your computer? I'm sure you don't. Apply the same principle here and you'll see why it makes it more tedious (I.e. makes no sense in my opinion as well) to shut it down instead of just pressing a button to go into sleep( where it uses little to no battery) and have it ready for you at a moment's notice.

No, I don't unplug my mouse but it's not ON. I don't dim a light either, I shut it OFF. More tedious??? Are you serious??? Mine boots in 13 seconds! Nothing is that important that I'd need to use my tablet in a moments notice. This is a difference of priorities in life and may have something to do with age groups.

I disagree. Since turning the tablet off has disadvantages versus sleep, one needs a good reason not to use sleep. Turning off the tablet takes more effort than tapping the power button, or in my case simple using the magnetic switch. Additionally, when you want to use the tablet again it takes less time to wake the tablet. Also, apps will be in the same state that you left them and you can receive notifications, alarms, etc.
The advantage of turning the tablet off? Saving <1% of battery or saving a whole 1% of battery if you are leaving it overnight.
But in the end you're probably right, it is perhaps more than a preference for some. I would akin habitually feeling the *need* to always turn the tablet off to some type of OCD.

Actually yes I do. No where does it say in any manual whatsoever for any tablet or smartphone that you are to turn off the device when charging. Before you I never met anyone who followed this practice. I see turning a device off as supposed to be used for when you are done using a device for a long period of time and dont need it to be on. If we are supposed to turn these off anytime we stop using the tablet or to charge, why would companies bother to spend so much effort looking for ways to bring the device into such deep sleep levels and bring its sleep drain down to next to nothing? Also, if we were supposed to turn a device off then no one would allow charging while connected to a computer to transfer files. You claim we all need to have some great reason for not turning the tablet off, and we are all giving you one. You just wont accept that reason and feel there needs to be a greater one. Yet you have not given any better reason as to why you feel a tablet must be turned off between uses. Also when you first started this debate with your question as to why, the wording you chose implied that we were all wrong and you are right, and everything you have said since then goes more to that mindset. If you don't like that people take what you say the wrong way, then find a different way to say it that isn't so offensive.

I usually don't turn off my devices while charging them either. I did turn my N10 off to charge it one day recently in hopes to charge it as much as possible in a short time span, but I really have no idea if it helped

If I would have that asking why somebody did something would cause such a turmoil. Where do get that I expect a great reason to leave it ON while charging overnight? Just a reason is good enough and I got a few. If you have a reason to, leave it ON. Now if somebody leaves it ON every night while charging but not for any of the reasons mentioned it wouldn't make any sense.
If you think that I've been offensive, you can't take criticism very well. You can't be asked why you did something? C'mon!
wow - I didn't expect the bloody spanish inquisition!
almost sounds like an android vs ios thread...
Still Charged Up
It's mostly just your unwillingness to accept that some people see no need to turn it off at night, whether they have a specific reason or not. Glad you've come around though, and I hope one day soon, you'll turn off your wifi and let it SLEEP.

Hola!
So I really really REALLY like SGS2 and would love to get one. But before I do, one question...
I like to keep my phone plugged in and turned on while I'm at work or at home at the computer. But having done some reading, I see that SGS2 is susceptible to the screen burn in issue. Is that true? Should I not get it in that case?
As I said, I REALLY like the phone, but if I need to change my usage habits just to avoid a known issue, I'd rather look for an alternative.

^^ Ditto!
OP - SGS2 is NOT for you. Further if you like to keep a phone plugged into computer at all times, I suggest the much cheaper MagicJack.
yes, I'm aware of what type of screen it has, thank you. That's the reason I asked about the issue.
I've never had a phone with an amoled screen, so I can only go off of others' experience.
What I'm wondering about is if there are any solutions that would go along with my usage habits. I don't remember what phone I was reading about (Nexus One?), but it had a feature where it would display a moving clock screensaver when docked in. Something along those lines when plugged into USB? Or maybe there are some new technology improvements in SGS2 that I don't know about?

If you're going to leave the screen on for a long time every day on the same screen, there will be a burn in. But I imagine with normal use (even for extended periods of time, but the screen changes screens often) there shouldn't be any problems.
So I'd probably skip on this phone if you leave the phone on for 8 hours on the same screen. Maybe the HTC Sensation? Also a VERY good phone, just not as good as the SGS2 ^^

Yeah, my main concern is when I'm at work, since I'm at my desk most of the time there. I'll probably have to settle on the Sensation after all. As you said, it's really nice, but not quite as good as SGS2. Such a shame >_<

I text a lot and get a bunch of emails usually. It really annoys me to have to turn on/unlock the phone every time I get a notification. It's nice to see it a glance when it's on the desk in front of you.

text app like handcent allows your screen to turn on when you receive a message with a popup message, you can read it immediately and reply instantly without pressing any extra button.

Yeah, I actually use it. But I don't always read the texts right away while working. And if the phone is unplugged, it will go back to sleep after a popup shows up.
It's just a personal preference =)
Its funny how lazy people have gotten.
I had original sgs2 for about a year and left it on bright screens with random things on with no burn in issues.
Had sgs2 for a month and have left it on overnight while on lockscreen(bright orange) and others and have no burn in issues.
I haven't personally seen any claims of burn on these forums or sgs forums. Just mostly people asking about it.

Ha, have to admit, I'm pretty lazy
But that's interesting that there's been no reports of it happening... Hmm wonder if I should just say F it and go for it. But then again, I guess you'd have to be consistent about leaving your screen on for long periods of time. I doubt it would burn in if you leave it on for a night or two.
Why don't you go search some of the SGS and variant threads as well as the Nexus S. They use the same screen technology and have been out a lot longer. If they aren't experiencing issues you probably won't either.

I did search before creating the thread. I saw some people reporting burn ins on other phones, but wasn't sure if anything has been improved lately technology-wise that could prevent the issue. I guess not...
I do realize though that it's quite early to see such reports on SGS2.

yes you can and will burn in your AMOLED screen if left on all the time.
my nexus one actually has in the instruction manual to not use the phone for more than 30 minutes of screen on time. that's actually written in the OFFICIAL manual. perhaps later generations of amoled from samsung got better, but burn in still will happen.
note: i use my nexus one with screen on for 3 hours at a time, but i just dont leave a static image in one spot. i'm constantly web browsing etc so no real issue of major burn in. however my status bar did get burnt into the screen after the first month of owning the nexus one. not bad, but present.

Don't use any 'app killers'... It's probably constantly just killing apps that are relaunching, then killing that app that relaunched, then the app re-relaunches... You get the idea.
Also, FRX06 is no longer supported. Shouldn't have anything to do with the phone not sleeping, but if you want to pursue this further I'd like you to be on the newest build. Thanks.
I was under the assumption that froyo is the most stable build and that the latest doesn't support gps. If i misread will add the latest tonight.
How do i stop it from launching apps i dont want then? i have no need for news to keep popping up like it does, we have the same issue on my gfs android phone all this stuff she doesnt want loading always loads up.

When he says FRX06 is old, that's because FRX07 is out, not because of Gingerbread, start over from scratch with FRX07, disable GPS, verify it sleeps properly (green light), then install apps slowly and make sure it sleeps after you install one, once it stop sleeping remove the last app you installed. Voila.
Thank you for clarifying that. I put FRx07 on just now shut off gps/wifi and the orange light by my ear speaker comtinues to stay lit, no apps are opening aside from "stock" apps those that were included with the os

Make sure BlueTooth is off in WinMo before launching XDAndroid. That was keeping my phone from sleeping initially.
Lol I learned my lesson that night, i still use winmo until I get this figured out. I love the ability to put this on my phone just hope I can figure out whats causing it. The battery drains to fast to consider using it full time for now though.

The only things to my knowledge that kill sleep (now) are:
BT being on in WinMo (put WinMo in airplane mode, soft reset and let WinMo boot back up in airplane mode, then hit HaRET.exe...)
GPS being enabled (disable thru Settings -> Location & Security) - this is an issue even when the GPS icon is not in the notification bar. Just trying GPS and having it enabled will cause sleep problems.
Stupid apps not working correctly. Not sure what we can really do about those long-term, but sometimes apps do not give up wakelocks correctly and prevent the phone from sleeping. I actually got the WeatherBug Pro app for free from the Amazon store one day, and used it for a little while... then realized it was killing sleep on my device and promptly removed it.
If there's anything else killing sleep, let me know - I'm not aware of anything else that could kill sleep assuming you're on FRX07.
Lots of stupid apps. Facebook, anything that does background autosync (like gmail, gcalendar, etc. - I turn off all the autosync options whenever I see them.)

I too had major battery drain issues and it really seems to be down to certain components. I have a RHOD100 running FRX07
In particular, I tried rootfs 20110721 last night with a full battery at about 21:00 and i'd swear it would have been dead by 02:00. So I have gone back to rootfs-20110716-245f68a. I am using this with kernel 20110718_223029-package. My battery was 100% at 08:15 this morning so three hours later, it's now at 80% so I'm very happy with this.
C
Ok now im curious if I may have "misrepresented" the issue. So here goes..
The orange light that while in WINMO that indicates the phone is charging. That light is constantly on while I am using android. After having upgraded to the FRX07 I clicked the lock button and the light went green but again stayed lit. I guess the major issue here (to me) is that these lights are not shutting off at all. in winmo if I unplug the phone the orange light goes off, the green light stays lit only temporarily. Is this an issue that is common?
I still notice a faster drain on the battery then one might expect thought I dont know how to quantify it as I dont know how to tell what % the battery is at only have the graphic up in the menu bar.
Regarding the Kernels and all in the above post you have lost me, I dont know what is meant by running something under a different Kernel, are you saying you reverted back to FRX06 and the battery issue is fixed?

I don't see any issue here at all, whatsoever. Simply a misunderstanding on your part, probably because you haven't taken the time to read and research how this port works.
Orange = wake
Green = sleep
The LED should always be on while in Android, representing the above conditions. It's really that simple. When the phone is plugged in / charging in Android, it cannot sleep - so the orange LED will be on, representing the device is awake.
I'm not talking about when the phone is plugged in, that is expected as you say, but when I have it unplugged and am using it the light continues to stay on.
just like the other thread of mine you commented in (video playback) for what you feel is not appropriately educating myself before asking the question I did read up on this issue before asking same result no concrete answer. If I overlooked it due to either to broad of a search or to narrow then I apologize. I am not trying to offend anyone here but I feel like your being a bit harsh towards me for not knowing all the answers to the questions i am asking.

The light is always on in Android. Green light always on means it's sleeping properly. Don't compare it to WM, it is not programmed to operate the same way at the present time.

just like the other thread of mine you commented in (video playback) for what you feel is not appropriately educating myself before asking the question I did read up on this issue before asking same result no concrete answer. If I overlooked it due to either to broad of a search or to narrow then I apologize. I am not trying to offend anyone here but I feel like your being a bit harsh towards me for not knowing all the answers to the questions i am asking.

The only reason I'm being harsh is you're not getting something very simple.
LED is always on in Android. Always always always.
Orange = wake
Green = sleep
The LED will never be off in Android, and these are the only things that the LED currently represents in Android - sleep state. Nothing more, nothing less. As was stated above, don't compare the LED to WinMo - it's not even close to how that is programmed at this stage of the game.
If the light stay's orange, then that's Bad and means that the phone is not sleeping and so is likely to be the cause of the battery drain.
Can I suggest that you download "Battery Indicator" from the Market. It gives you a number in the top bar so easy to read the battery level at any time.
On your microSD Card, you will see three files - rootfs.img and the kernel files zImage and module.... try downloading and replacing these with updated versions. Rename the rootfs and zImage files but do NOT rename the module file. You can see the links in my earlier post.

Does your wifi work? I have the same problem and it seems it appeared along with a wifi problem on my frx7.
With a fresh install everything worked fine. after a couple of days (without modifying system) wifi was broken (gives an error if I try to turn it on) and the phone didn't sleep.
I make it short:
Yeah another wifi/ battery thread. But the only one with an actual solution for pi poor battery life after 21 update. Some people reported it helped also with the sod.
Wifi sucks battery dead.
Some people let all sorts of juice sucking bat-control apps running to find out that stock app reading is not lying: The bloody wifi never turns off even set to do so in the settings and just kills the battery of the device.
If this is your workaround you owe me a thanks . If you are an Asus employee testing poor battery issue give me credits in the fixing OTA by repairing the 'never' settings:
Go to
settings, w-lan,advanced (click on the three dots in the upper right corner, there it is), keep_wifi_on_during_sleep:
Instead of setting it to 'never', set it to 'only when plugged in'.
Now put your machine in sleep, wake it after 30min or even much less and BOOOOOOM! here we go:
You will see in the battery settings, that your wifi just has stopped pausing. Depending on how long ago the battery cycle has started you will see two shorter bricks instead of a long one as before. While waking your machine concentrate on the battery icon and you will notice the wifi-icon popping up just a second after you have woken the screen.
Of course this works also with shorter breaks but I'm not sure what is the shortest interval. Longer sleep period opens the gap in between two wifi-sessions wider. So this makes the working proof easier visible for the eye.
Sort of really a shame that Asus, Google and Nvidia have hybrid, wrongly programmed and even forgotten settings in their setup. (see my thread about the multitasking of the HTC1X http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599214 Maybe helps your multitasking issue.
But as we know, nobody is perfect .... except for xda!!
And then, many report, they don't have this problem at all. Very strange that not everybody is affected by this blind setting.
If this solution doesn't help your device,I am sorry for you. Maybe you have to stick to the bat-control app and learn how to read it, or RMA your device.
Did the job for me.
So I am ready for summer to join in, got enough juice for the IPS+ screen to stun the sun the whole day lun . Rock'n Roll
Edit 121002:
JellyBeans workaround as well.
Edit 120616:
Thank you Asus that the .28 firmware makes my workaround obsolet. Now get rid of this arm5 coding and let the bugger run !!
Edit 2:
Title changed from 'Asus you owe me a blowjob' to something less attractive for trolls.
Should be an obvious solution for everyone. But took me a hell of time to use the next best (second) obvious setting for my w-lan and get the battery saving.
Edit:
Please don't abuse my thread to flame, blame or mob your boss, retailer, dog or whomever. Only confirmation or non-confirmations welcome. If you find another or better or additional solution in the future or the past please feel free to post it. I did not have the time yet to check for the actual amount of powersafe but regarding my normal readings we are gaining the whole lost lot back and don't need to throttle down or ruin our eyes. I reckon the bat is gonna be better because now some of the ASUS optimisation hits some ground.
If you want me to fled off, I have stolen your ideas or you are an ASUS employee with no job-offer, don't PM me.
Thanks
I have been using this setting for a while and while I do get better battery life using the "when plugged in" setting than the newer "disconnect during sleep" setting, in general battery life is still worse in .21 than in previous builds and for me WiFi alone still accounts for more than 60% of my average battery usage according to the battery settings menu. For all of my other Android devices the screen is the largest single user of battery.
It does not happen to everyone. I have it on "never" and as soon as i click the power button, wifi turns off... if i wake the tablet right away (2 or 3 seconds later), i see the wifi reappearing and reconecting. So, for me, the wifi turns off instantly.
In the battery graph my wifi line is nonexistant whenever the tablet is sleeping.
I believe the wifi options are implemented correctly (sort of). But for some reason, it doesnt seem to work for some users.
Another way to save battery is to increase the wifi scanning interval... but that is for when you are using wifi.
I guess, for those experiencing the battery drain, it may be a good temporary workaround to use the solution mentioned by the OP.

another way to MAKE SURE you save battery is turn the darn thing off and shutdown and then when you need it's ready to go. I been doing this more recently and it defeats the purpose of tablet, but hey, when i need to use it, after the boot up its on. not trying to be funny.
Let's not get carried away. While a good suggestion it's far from a real solution for all the people that are encountering this issue. It's kind of like suggesting just turning off your tablet when your not using it to prevent battery drain.

Nonetheless, thanks for the redundant tip OP.
Auto flight mode
I always install an auto flight mode program that will turn off the wifi when the screen turns off since most widgets prevents the system from turning it off and going into deep sleep.

Your way takes far too much time for me to act spontaneous. With my changed settings it's doing it automatically again, just as was intended the 'never' setting. Unless you charge the tablet by cord, the wifi turns off while you put the tablet asleep. I say settings are messed up.

to the OP, have you noticed that when you put wifi to stay on only when plugged in, when in sleep, that it takes a little while for wifi to come back online? meaning if you use the setting you said, then put the prime to sleep unplugged, then wake it back up, wifi doesn't connect back immediately. it takes a few seconds to come back online. that's the only thing I personally don't like about it.

yeah but personally this means to me it's working correctly. For the wifi to come back on instantly it would have to keep a connection and just not transfer data, when in deep sleep it completely turns off the wifi radio. When you wake it back up the radio turns back on, and it needs to connect to the AP all over again. This means the wifi was in a deep sleep (actually turned off the tab is in deep sleep) and it is working correctly.
I really wonder why every thread in this forum sooner or later becomes a trolling/flaming thread....
So guys, as usual (*sigh*) please stay on topic.
Trolling and flaming won't be tolerated but will be rewarded by other gifts like infractions and bans.
@OP: You might think about stoping posting in red: It usually implies a high rate of aggressivity towards other members.
Even if this might not be actually true in your case, other members still might missunderstand you.
On topic: This "fix" is really known since like, dunno, Froyo times? At least this setting is there already for ages.
Apart from that it should be obvious that turning off the Wifi drains less power.
However, you had good intentions so don't destroy them by flaming other members.
If you feel attacked by any post, just report it (obviously this goes for all members)
Thanks for clearing up, Diamondback,
What has been known since Froyo x.x is still worth mentioning. Many user have just started their android career because nowadays the hardware and the software are worth it. And once in a while talking about an old known tip is worthwhile especially since nobody else did.
@ demandarin ;-)

I've been using this option since day 1. The problem is not that the wifi doesn't sleep. It's more so that it sucks way too much power when it is on.
I have an iPad2 3g as well which I received as a birthday gift so I kept it and with wifi and 3g always on, I still get 5-7 days of use.
On the Prime its dead under 2 days if always on and 3-4 days if off when asleep.
So it's most likely an optimization issue or driver issue.
Maybe the transmit power should go to low when asleep rather than staying strong.
Who knows. Regardless this can be fixed by Asus if they really look into it.

Actually the iPad has it's SW architecture on the plus side. I think the high battery drain on the TFP (and/or Android in general) is also strongly linked to the number of apps synching in background.
Maybe it can be fixed with drivers. Lowering transmit power sounds good. Could be that Asus optimized to much for the folks complaining about wifi performance....
The setting to turn off wifi while the tablet sleeps makes no sense for my use case. I mean for a wifi only device, it makes not much sense to turn it's connection to the outside off. How will I then receive notifications on gtalk, mail and so on? If I would like to safe power that way, I rather turn it completely off.
For a phone with 3g / edge data connection it might make sense. This applies for the 3g iPad as well.
I agree, it got a bit worse with .21 but for me battery life is still awesome.
Thanks anyway for bringing it to the mind of new users. Although I wouldn't call this a fix but a workaround.

Yes, I agree about the drain but isn't it probably because of the stylish casing! So nothing we can change there, but Asus could clock it down while asleep as you suggest.

My iPad2 goes ding ding ding all night. Lots of apps syncing. 3 email accounts. CNN app, and multiple other apps.
But I think iOS uses a very low power state for background sync while in sleep compared to Android.

Not sure if it's relevant because this was posted for the GS2 but it could also help with wifi drain on the prime.
from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25876666&postcount=3
"FAQ
Q: Wakelocks "wlan_rx_wake" wake up my device constantly what I can do about it?
A: The problem is neither Android nor the kernel, but the router and the (Windows7) network. In the network properties, uncheck "IPv6", disable the service "IP Helper", "Shell Hardware Detection" and "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service", which provide ongoing Traffic. Then they scored again 98% of deep sleep."
And how you disable ipv6 on your phone/tablet is with a script but the value in the file gets recreated everytime you turn wifi on and off. So if you disable ipv6 then turn wifi off, then back on, ipv6 will be enabled again. I got around this by a tasker profile that will run every time my tablet connects to a wifi network. So it disables ipv6 right away again. You could do this in an init.d script(or in sysctl) as well but then you have the issue of it resetting itself if you turn wifi off/on
If you have tasker create a new profile for when wifi is connected, then run a shell script task, and check run as root. This is the command echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/wlan0/disable_ipv6
to enable it just replace the 1 with a 0. You can also run the command in a terminal window if you just want to test it. I did it for my phone, and I just set it for my prime so I'll see if it drains less battery with it off..

I would just like to say thanks and let you know that I had SOD problems on my prime (as bad as up to once every day in frequency) for a very long time since .21 came out, after trying your work around (several weeks ago) ever since I have not had a single SOD sleep of death issue whatsoever.
I always suspected it was dock recharging causing the SOD fault but maybe it was a bum wifi stack or something, so thank you very much my tab is much more stable because the suggestion you've shared with me.
Unfortunately it does not help any flickering or GPU bugs I tend to get on occasion. I truly hate .21 it is so god awful for GPU, SOD and storage I/O.
I should just man up and downgrade but meh, sif i have the time do it
But yeah, thanks heaps, your workaround is an awesome suggestion.
If my HTC EVO LTE was a human being and it had died the way it did, you bet your techie bottom that CSI and possibly Mulder and Scully from X Files would have been involved.
So with that being said:
It was a regular day. Woke up in the morning. Kissed my wife good morning, and grabbed my EVO to play around a bit. Then we headed to my in-laws business, of which we are in charge in the weekend. I usually take my laptop, so as I always do, I got easy tether going and proceeded to plug in my phone into my laptop. I have an application called droid wallet, which allows me to keep track of my finances. I intended to log something onto droid wallet, but I did not want to undo my tethering connection, so I simply reached behind the laptop without unplugging the phone and turned on the screen. I did so clumsily, and I accidentally turned the phone screen back off. When I attempted to turn it back on, it simply did not. I suddenly went, wtf? I kept on clicking the power button repeatedly, to no avail. I proceeded to unplug my phone from the computer. At this point, I realized the phone was not responding. I did long power button press, many short presses, everything I could think of. When I plugged it back into the charger, the charging light no longer triggered on. I hurried it to my local best buy (I got black tie protection) and they told me the phone was done for, and proceeded to give me a new one.
It was too late when i realized....at some point during the beginning of my vacation, my phone automatically switched to storing everything onto phone memory , and a whole trip's worth of pics and videos of a very meaningful vacation with my wife was completely gone.
Things like this are common with crappy build phones like samsung, as it has happened to most people. But HTC? They have never failed me like this. Do you guys have any idea wtf happened??
no comment on what might have happenned, but you should look into the picture auto-upload capabilities. I use the one from dropbox, but I think you can do it with google+ also.
this is the SAME issue that happened to my EVO YESTERDAY!!! the screen would jsut go off when i made a call, i couldnt power it back on and now i get NO charger light!!! ahh!
im going to the sprint store today to get a new one hopefully.
I think you screwed up and did it wrong. Maybe if you kissed your phone good morning and played around with your wife you wouldn't be having problems.

And everyone please, as the OP, I think I have the right to say please STFU already. No more Samsung vs HTC debates, I thought I was clear in my previous posts. I intended this thread as a troubleshooting thread, not a debate one about manufacturer reliability. I do apologize, because I did bring it up in the first place, but I also quickly shot it down. What I said in my OP post about was not meant to troll. It was just meant to express my disbelief in HTC failing me, as personally, it has never done so before.
with the above being said, I do have an important development:
One of the things i disliked about this phone in the two first weeks I had it is that it became really hot on my ear when I used it for more than five miutes. To the point that I had to pull it away and set it to speaker mode for a little while for it to cool off. I thought it was a common EVO LTE thing, but surpirse surprise, my brand new EVO does not have this heating issue at all. It called directv today to haggle down prices (successfully, if i might add) and I was on the phone with them for at least one hour +. No heating at all. THere was another poster on here (first page I think) who said they had the exact same thing happened to them. I would love to confirm if the "burning your ear in less than 10 min" issue is directly related to sudden deaths of this device??

FWIW, I work at a repair store and I had one of these returned EVO LTE's to work one. Phone was completely DOA, could not power on, no indication of charging when plugged in, triage laptop didn't react when it was plugged in, pressing and holding power button for 60 seconds didn't work, lights on four capacitive buttons didn't flash, etc etc.
I had another known good EVO LTE that was returned because of buyer's remorse so I popped it open, disconnected the battery (which I knew for sure had at least 50% charge), and swapped it into the dead LTE and same deal-- phone still refused to power on.

OK first let me apologize for any side tracking of the thread. Sorry!
How do you pop it open? I'd love to be able to take the battery out.

with the above being said, I do have an important development:
One of the things i disliked about this phone in the two first weeks I had it is that it became really hot on my ear when I used it for more than five miutes. To the point that I had to pull it away and set it to speaker mode for a little while for it to cool off. I thought it was a common EVO LTE thing, but surpirse surprise, my brand new EVO does not have this heating issue at all. I called directv today to haggle down prices (successfully, if i might add) and I was on the phone with them for at least one hour +. No heating at all. THere was another poster on here (first page I think) who said they had the exact same thing happen to them. I would love to confirm if the "burning your ear in less than 10 min" issue is directly related to sudden deaths of this device??

Looked at a dead one "personal experience", under a lighted magnifier.
What I saw was a pin tip sized drop of solder, near the sdsocket. Seemed like an overheating issue, with what I assumed was a fuse. Though it could just have been a bad assembly which tested marginally with reduced burn in time. Just saying.

As mentionr earlier, Dropbox is the way to go. It's free or 2GB and easy to increase your free space. Enable auto upload and pictures and videos automatically upload to a "camera upload" folder. You specify if upload only on wi-fi or either wi-fi or 3G. It s SO convenient and definitely worth a look.
Go to dropbox.com or use http://db.tt/WYZmyfxT and I'll get free referral space.
Had this just happen to me... Was on the phone and it completely died on me. No charging light, power button hit long and short. Nothing worked.
But... The holding the volume and the power buttons at the same time trick worked. I am now back on and ready to go. Thank god, I just got this damn thing set up the way I like.

Shifted from Outer Space
Well I've seen many mixed feelings on this gear S, for the first time in years this is one device that has peeked my interest, so I picked one up having the least expectations I possibly could have and man has it truely exceeded everything I thought it would be limited to.
So my first thing I did was burn through the battery as fast as possible by trying every possible thing I could do with this thing to get the "yayyy new gadget buzz" out of me and with heavy use it'll fly through it's power source, and it sure can be a fun gadget, afterwards I gave it a full charge and changed the settings to businesses/everyday normal use (turn on when I touch, don't notify me when using my phone, 7 important notifications, always no mobile signal because i make it feed off my grandfathered unlimited plan , and etc...)so that i use it truely as a extention of my phone and not solely a stand alone(but very nice to have that option), because carrying my phone with me is standard and i don't plan on leaving it behind on purpose just to be able to so my phwatch off because it's not important that people ask me "wow what is that on your wrist" this is for my personal entertainment and use, and not to be recognized for, but anyway after a full charge and 1 day of use after changing the settings to "NO SHOW OFF MODE" LOL, I'm down from 100% to 79%, even with a few "I gotta touch this thing moments", but that alone has me well off to feeling like this is a good purchase alone.
It gives me the convenience of not having to pull my phone out to see who's calling, i have my phone on silent and when my phwatch vibrates i check my wrist and judge within a few seconds of not having to fumble around in my pockets to answer or not, same with text. There have been many time where i pull my phone out or chase my phone down in another room and get frustrated that i even had to grab it just to ignore it, or wonder why all this for nothing.
I truely think if you're looking to get this thing then you wanting it alone should be enough to justify getting it's your money spend it, you can't bury it with you, enjoy yourself, but for me it was the fact i wouldn't have to buy watches as I can change the face to my liking and soon will be able to change the straps to coordinate, and to come along with all the extra features i didn't get it for makes this feel like a steal.

Welcome aboard the exclusive Phwatch train and join the club for posers! I can 100% relate to everything you said and I think my experience on day one was exactly the same as you.
It certainly is something to show off. I have invented new (and often painful) ways to position my arm to fully maximize the chances of my friends/colleagues catching sight of it and asking about it, I am only too poised to start flicking through screens to amaze and astound them. Followed by the inevitable "How much did it cost?" of course, which when I tell them further astonishes and astounds them
I have been using the sleep app and really like it.. I normally get 4-5 hours, but now that I can see it I am up to 7 hours of sleep. It makes a difference when you can see it (at least to me)

Hmmmmm, I don't find it to be comfortable to sleep in ... Maybe they should create a comfort band specifically for sleeping.
