If you made the backup with CWM before then it won't work with TWRP recovery. You can only restore a TWRP backups with TWRP Recovery. And vise versa, you can't restore a TWRP backup with CWM Recovery.

You are in the wrong forum!

I think I understand what your saying. The toolkit may have worked for your phone but flashing i9300 ROMs onto your device could mess up your phone. If you have a working TWRP Recovery, my suggestion would be to flash a ROM/zip file made for your device and first see if it works. And of coarse try and make a backup to see if nandroid backup is working correctly

I hope it wasn't the i9300 ROM that bricked it.. You had plenty of warning
Anyway.. Hope you get it sorted. You may need JTAG repair if it is truly bricked. MobileTechVideos provides this service with a quick turnaround. Good luck!

Galaxy S2 boots into CWM - SOLVED!

Just bought a Galaxy S2 2nd hand after having over 3 great years with my HTC HD2 running latest MIUI ROM.
Thats the good news! The bad news is that I am suffering from "S2-Noob-Itus" and am in a right old pickle!
I rooted the phone - no problems, and SU was installed.
I then headed over to GalaxyS2Root.com & used these instructions:-
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-r...ckworkmod-recovery-on-rooted-galaxy-s2-i9100/
Now my S2 wont boot up - it hangs on the normal S2 boot screen - I have the dreaded triangle with exclamation mark - wait about 20 seconds & then the phone boots into CWM .
It wont boot in the operating system
Get the following errors on the CWM screen
ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.1.4
E: Cant mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Cant mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Cant open /cache/recovery/log
E: Cant mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Cant open /cache/recovery/last_log
Haven't a clue what any of this means, and would dearly welcome any help.
I am beginning to wish I'd stuck with my ancient HD2
Everything seems to very complicated when it comes to "hacking" the Galaxy S2! I mistakengly assumed that by moving to a native Android device things would be much easier!
What a wally I am!
I can boot into Download mode (Vol Down + Power + Home) if that helps to fix tis mess!
Thanks in advance for anyone responding to my cries of "HELP!"
Cheers
It is possible that you tried to install CWM kernel made for a different framework/version. Try flashing the original kernel for your phone's current Android version, that will fix it.
You can get the original kernels for unbranded phones from this thread:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Alternatively you can try to find the right CWM kernel in the CWM thread, though it is advisable to first get it back to working state.
Hope that helps!

Suggest you use XDA firmware and instructions not that from other sites or at least ask on the forum you got the stuff from .

Thanks for your response; for sure I deserved that telling off - and probably more!
No excuses - sadly I was "led up the garden path" by a well meaning mate who has an S2 - but its my phone & I should have known better! It sure will not happen again!
After checking back with him this afternoon, in actual fact it was the "Chainfire" method that he used - my mistake!
Fortunately - he had the good sense to make a note of the original kernel which was:-
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100BUKJ3-CL647431
He did make some notes - ODIN version used (ODIN 3 v1.85) & he flashed GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_4.0.1.4.tar - presumably this was the wrong version of CWM?
You say:-

Can you elaborate further? I am not sure what CWM version to use with Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100BUKJ3-CL647431.
I have tried a search for "2.6.35.7-I9100BUKJ3-CL647431" across the forum but have come up against a brick wall.

KJ3 firmware and Kernel
So as per Chainfires instructions
I would use
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KJ3-v5.0-CWM5.zip
Unzip and flash the tar as PDA in Odin should give CWM and root .
Dont bother with the Triangle for now get root working first .

[Q] No signal after rooting and can't get to CWM

Hi, I have a problem that I applied the wrong CF root v6.4 onto my s3 lte i9305. My baseband become Unknown.
I tired to use the CWM Recovery Tar for i9305 to try to root the phone again. I am able to successfully apply via Odin, but i tried with no Autoreboot then pull battery , then to boot wih VolumeUp+power+home buttons. It just hangs there forever.
I now can either boot normally without baseband, or boot in download mode, or boot in normal recovery mode but not CWM.
Please advise how I can fix the baseband problem?

Anyway to recover the EFS folder without backup?

Where did you and how did you originally backup EFS folder .
Baseband is modem you can flash a modem through Odin .
Why not turn your phone off and read the basics first .

No you dont - you only need to do that if you want to send it off for warranty/repairs
You may want to factory reset after though in case you still run into problems

First welcome screen used to come in portuguese then later after flashing for 4-5 times,it came in english. But the touch doesnt work.I tried factory restore..but it doesnt work..Phones memory is showing up when connected to computer..Somebody Help me bring my Phone back to life! Thank yu!
Looks like you flashed a file for a galaxy note 2 and not an s3.
You need to be careful and flash the right files to your phone or you could end up with a hard brick.
Have a look at the stickies on how to root.
Oh and make sure you have an international galaxy s3 9300 as that is this forum your in.

you flashed the wrong file (Note II), the process is correct but you need to flash the cf root/auto-root file for the S3 as mentioned! Try it again with it and see if it fixes your issue.
You Might wanna flash a stock firmware in odin first before you try rooting.

One take to a service centre is best as you have a big problem and zero knowledge .
OR
You could try flashing CF Root recovery from development then booting to recovery format cache system data sd card and preload .
Then download mode and flash stock rom via Odin .

If you phone connects to your PC then try completely resetting the phone using Kies
Start Kies, then go to Tools then Firmware Upgrade and Installation, this process will wipe the phone and reinstall the latest firmware, you will need some details from under the phone battery but just follow the on screen instructions.

Oh..got it now..
Jst out of curiosity..how does rooting some software destroy hardware?
ANd Cnat I jst change that destroyed part instead of Whole Motherboard>?
No.
You can destroy cpu, gpu by overclocking badly, overvolting, eventually internal card can be corrupted but all those scenario aren't linked to a simple rooting procedure (which is only writing two files on the system partition...).
You need to have a good diagnosis, either the digitizer is dead, or the connection of it on the motherboard. Our the motherboard.
Replacement won't be cheap especially for motherboard.

[Q] Somebody call Columbo!...

Hi all.
I think i have killed my Galaxy S3 i9300!!!
I rooted it and installed the Paranoid Android rom, but then decided to go back to stock rom as I couldn't access the play store.
Now here's the problem... I wiped dalvic cache and did a factory reset, but stupidly wiped the system at the same time.
There is no operating system on the phone at all now and my pc greys out the device when I plug it in.
Odin did recognize the phone, but I couldn't flash a rom to it as it kept getting stuck at 'nand write start' in all versions of odin.
When I try to start in recovery mode (volume up, power and home) I get the green android instead.
I read that it's game over if you can't enter recovery mode.
Have I killed my s3? :crying:
Possible you have damaged the NAND .
wiped the system at the same time>> then you just flash a stock rom via ODIN .
What phone have you what stock did you flash .
You have already posted this why start yet another thread ??

Sorry for the double post, I thought that the first one may have been in the wrong place, it won't happen again.
I never got to flash any stock roms at all because i'm new to all this and I assumed that doing a factory reset was going
to put me back on the stock rom automatically.
That's when I made the mistake of doing the advanced wipe and ticking the system box.
Excuse my ignorance... but is it possible to fix this even if I don't have recovery mode?
Thank you for your help.

Flash stock rom via Odin in download mode .
#
doing a factory reset was going
to put me back on the stock rom automatically. NEVER ever it just restores the last firmware flashed .
i'm new to all this and I assumed that's why we have multiple faqs guides and instructions .

Can you point me in the right direction for the correct stock rom please?
I'm fully aware of the faqs and guides, but I just wish I had read them BEFORE trying to do this!
What shall I do if I cannot get past 'Nand write start' in Odin?

You could try Keis first, if you don't have it install it, start Kies up and then go to Tools > Firmware Upgrade and Installation and follow the on screen instructions

you still got download mode good, just goto samfirmware and download a firmware from there
will he have lost his EFS having formatted his system?

I've read up on it and I see the importance of the EFS now
Am I right to think that if I have lost it, then the phone is pretty much useless?

I tried flashing official rom, but Odin got stuck at 'Nand write start' and Kies wouldn't recognize the phone.
Thanks for your help, but I think it'll have to be the service centre now!

Use Kies intilisation or whatever to chose your device and serial.
If that wont work flash recovery and then use recovery to flash a stock based rom.

[Q] Can't get into recovery

Dear users,
I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300 T-Mobile version).
I know I have to post this in the developers part, but somehow I can't post there (I have no permission?).
I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439 and I'm stuck on the custom recovery part.
When I flashed it sucessfully, I disconnected my usb, pulled out my battery (as I should). Then, I tried getting into recovery mode (volume up, power + home button at the same time).
I get a samsung logo with GALAXY SIII (and GT-9300), with a little red dot on the upper-left corner. When I keep holding the buttons, the screen goes black and the logo re-appears. When i realease everything it'll freeze on this screen, and when I hold the power button it will just reboot (to my phone, nothing goes wrong then).
I should see some blue text at the top of my screen, and then a custom clockwork should appear. But no, I don't.
Can anyone help me? I can't get into recovery mode now.
Thanks!
can you get to download mode volume down+power+homebutton
if yes then flash a stock Rom and it should be fine
also this is the right place to post

Yes, I can get into download mode.
The problem is that I want to root my device, and the guide tells me that I need clockworkmod custom recovery.

What do you mean CF auto root?
And where can I find such a stock rom? Sorry I'm a noob at rooting and flashing. Will this erase my data? Because I just performed a new install.
If your phone still boots normally into Android, you don't need to flash another rom.
Search for the CF Auto Root thread on XDA and follow the instructions to flash that...

NO its a question its not development.
You can ask in a relevant development thread after ten posts .
The link in your first post is not for this phone and may brick a I9300 .
This is I9300 forum what phone do you have ???

You can get SuperSU from the play store
It might say I9300 but the link you post says .
I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2046439
IS NOT REPEAT NOT for this phone it says Verizon Galaxy S III Android Development
How far in bricking your phone by following those instructions have you gone ??
Do you try flashing a stock rom via Odin or just pay for a new motherboard .
You either do not have an I9300 and have possibly bricked your phone or you are in the wrong forum if you have Verizon Galaxy S III .

Do you have t mobile UK or are you state side?

I didn't brick my phone (yet), I just couldn't get into the recovery, but I reflashed the stock recovery, I can now get back into it thanks to someone who gave me a link to an auto-root feature.
I have root access, superSU and stock recovery, everything works fine. Flash counter reset to 0.
Thanks guys!
P.S for the one who asked: I have a GT-I9300 T-mobile (Holland, The Netherlands). Where can I get the clockworkmod/TWRP anyway (if i want a custom recovery?)

Ok, and I won't see any difference to my phone or something will brick? (except the change of the recovery, are you sure this is the right one?)
And when i got this clockworkmod custom recovery, can I change boot animations and stuff?

Follow the links. You can see at the post if they're in the right device forum or not.
Or just take yourself directly to the international i9300 development forums and find them there.
