Anyone else experience less stability after flashing the "stable" build of cm10 for the i717?
I had random reboots once to three times a day.
Whereas before updating to the stable build I had none of this.
I did a factory data reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, rinse and repeat, than flashed the "stable" build.
Stable aside from the random reboot..
Which I didnt experience before the "stable build"
I have since ditched cm10 for padawan v8. (Which sucks)[supposed to be oc'd but doesnt oc the device]
Looking to go back to cm10 wondering if anyone else had or is having the random reboot issue?

Yes, basically EVERYONE has random reboots in Jellybean on the i717 since we don't have JB blobs or kernel source. Some ROMs are better than others, some kernels are better than others, some users have less problems than others, etc.
Use hotcakes jb v3.02 kernel if you can find it. There was a thread in general. Should make any cm10 based ROM alot more stable.
Here's link to thread.

Doesnt explain how the previous "unstable" version was stable for me? Ill try hotcakes too.
"Stable" build is a relative term. It does not mean rock solid. That version is yet to be released. I actually found that the recent Nightlies are just a stable, if not more stable, than the old "Stable" build. Try em out.

The nightly prior to the stable release gave me much better results. No force reboots etc..

I am new to the rooting / rom / kernel game and done some research. I am just wanting to double check to make sure this is the correct one for me.
This is the rom I am wanting to use: [ROM][4.2.1][19/01]Slim Bean - I9100 [RC1]
My phone is rooted and I have done my rom backup and titanium backup of "All user apps + system data".
I just want to make sure this is the correct rom for my phone so I don't brick the damn thing lol.
My Model is:GT-I9100Android Version:4.0.3Baseband Version:I9100XXLPSKernel Version:[email protected] #3
yes, that rom will work.
be advised since they are starting with a new base, you may find it full of bugs and FC.

Would you suggest maybe going down a couple versions then?

Why not try CM9 (ICS) or CM10 (JB 4.1.2) or CM10.1 (JB 4.2.1). CM10 looks like stock Android but has some good tweaks. Alternatively if you would prefer as close as stock as possible try the rom you mentioned but get previous base version until they release final of JB base.
When you restore from Titanium its not "recommended" to restore the data as well if you have changed android versions. (although i generally ignore that advice)
the cm10 nightly from 22nd installed on my new s2 a breeze, i just installed a non stock kernel first.
I went ahead and installed their 3.1 version and had all kinds of bugs, so I went ahead and flashed the 4.2.1 version. Everything works great except my damn clock keeps restarting. I get a message "Clock has stopped" and then it resets to a random time. Then I reboot and it grabs my time from my provider again....
Anyone have any idea?

Do you know why stable releases disappeared from get.cm/?device=i9100 and why the last stable is 9.1 in get.cm/?device=galaxys2 ? (sorry I cannot post links)

Did you look for people with the same problem(s) as you in the rom-thread? If not, you can better ask there in the specific thread.

Because CM9.1 was their most recent stable version. CM10 was never really finished and the development went on to CM10.1, which is still 'under construction'

Hi all
I Tried many cm10.1 based roms, but i must admit that comparing to stock ICS 4.03 which i came from they area all much slower.
I tried:
Pure CM10.1
Rootbox
Slimbean
ParanoidAndroid
...
I cant find post where people are grumbling abut cyanogenmod performance..
Maybe im doing something wrong?
I always do Wipe data/factory reset, and wipe dalvik cache during every rom install.
Does anyone have such conclusions?
What do you mean with slower? Are you using stock kernel?
I only tried Pacman rom 4.2.2, and Rootbox 4.1.2 but they aren't slow with me
Sent from the Matrix
Antutu and quadrant results are slower, phone responsivness is not so good as on stock ics.
I tried booth siyah and dorimanx.
I noticed that as well.. It was moreso in the keyboard that it was really apparent, I've never had to go back and correct myself so many times because the keyboard was lagging so badly that it couldn't keep up with what I was typing. Chalked it up to bugs, reverted back to my backup and figured I'd wait until the next stable release is out and try again.
Keaybord seems laggy only because of PIE settings enabled. Try to disable them.
I full wiped and reflashed Rootbox + siyah again. It seems quite stable right now

Rootbox is one of the fastest roms Ive used,so I dont understand you and that other guys comments. And are you talking about speed, since your now talking about stability.
Odp: [Q] CM 10.1 based roms are slooow
Please understand: i had above problems until reflashed rom again. Reflashing and then again instaling apps is a bit waste of time for me, and i thought that someone has similar problems.
I didn't find similar post, tgat is why i asked a question.
Your post is not helpfull.

Hi Guys,
Might be a bit of a noob question but I'll shoot it off anyway. I'm currently happily running SS3.11 with UTMS_Spyder CM10.1Nightly with ICS EU 4.04 Stock on XT910. :victory:
Everything seems to work like a charm and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what benefit there is to taking everything back to stock and flash the JB EU OTA?
Seems like until Hashcode and Dhacker get CM10.1 and AOKP running properly with JB Kernel I'd actaully be loosing functionality?
Any devs care to comment / clarify?
Cheers,
Phil
It's really just personal preference. There used to be a whole list of things that didn't work on AOKP/CM10 however Hashcode/Dhacker have worked extremely hard to iron them all out, it's really impressive. CM10 just updated to using the JB kernel meaning there is no more graphic tearing and battery life is almost the same as stock. Bluetooth problems were fixed last month. I think the only big bug left is automatic flash on the camera (however this still works when setting manually).
But to answer your question, technically running stock you are losing functionality. CM10/AOKP are running 4.2.2 while stock is 4.1.2 (I believe), meaning there's a whole bunch of features missing in stock. CM10/AOKP are being updated nightly meaning they will only improve while stock... well it's just stock. There wont be another update unless something is seriously wrong or Motorola decides to upgrade to the next AOS. Stock also includes a crapton of bloatware which slow down the phone. Even if you manually remove/freeze everything, I still believe CM10/AOKP to have better performance than stock any day. Hope this answers your questions
Sv: [Q] JB OTA vs CM10.1 or AOKP
I just love the customizations that cm 10.1 gives you. I can never go back to stock again. I also run the hotplug governor un order to save battery (one cpu shuts down when not in use) with noop scheduler. This tips were given by the poster above! Try cm and you'll never go back!

Is there an AOSP ROM that works with the leak JB kernel that the camera and tearing is fixed or only the soak kernel?

Many thanks

Well then... I think the decision is easy. Wait for Moto to release JB Fastboot and the amazing devs here to make a root tool and update CM10.1.
Why take a step backwards from available functionality for an official OTA.
Cheers Guys,

Thanks, I was running AOKP previously but have paid version of Juice Defender which started complaining that it didn't like ASOP base and I should switch to Cyanogenmod. Besides that compatabililty issue though I do really like AOKP ROM.. and did find it both fast and very stable.
Any 4.2 roms worth suggestion, I installed the new un-leaked JB and i lost root leading to safestrap being lost also. I had CM10.1 but i lost the .zip file and CM10.1 appears to be only for the ICS kernel. So back to my main point are there any STABLE, good roms with 4.2, thanks.
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162827&page=1 good stable AOKP rom and it has Kexec

Actually I think cm10.1 works now with kexecs too as some bugs were caused by the ics kernel... But my information is only for xt910

CM10.1
I think CM10.1 is a pretty good one. Their are some bugs, like no auto camera flash and gps , but its good for daily use. Also u schould have a look at the PAC ROM.
Max
CM10.1 is a pretty good ROM. It uses kexec. So, no matter if you have installed ICS or JB kernel.
Please visit the development section to find a ROM which fits your needs most.

So right now I'm running Task650s AOKP with Siyah Kernel, but an old version, thats still Android 4.0.4. In addition, I only have CWM 5. A lot of the KK ROM threads say that CWM 6 is required (and some JB ones imply the same thing, or tha I need JB bootloaders), but the one I want to flash (PACMan) doesn't have such a warning, but I'm still a bit apprehensive. Will I be fine if I just wipe, flash PACMan + GApps and reboot? Or is there an intermediary step I need like flashing a new kernel, and if so which one do I need?
Thanks guys

Well pacman isn't based on kitkat so I think you're good to go, the newest nightlies for that are still based on jellybean right? Or has it changed? I haven't downloaded one in a like two weeks.

Yes, you will be fine, as long as you install a JB kernel first (either STI or AJK 4.9 AOSP). I would suggest you install Milestone 1 (the download link is labeled PAC Release), instead of the nightly. Nightlies have a reputation for being finicky at times, so if you want stability you'd be better off sticking with known stable releases.
And don't forget to flash the gapps either, or you'll run into other problems.
