[Q] Custom ROMs - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

this might seem like a stupid question but this is important for me.
I've used so many custom ROMs and I've loved many of their features and disliked a few. Sometimes you like the graphics but then the ROM is heavy on the battery. Etc..
my question here is.. is there not a way to get certain features of a ROM while using another ROM? something

Try reading themes and development for the mods you want .
If they are available as a separate flash .
Then add to whatever base rom you want .

Is there really room for so many "original" ROMs?

Please, don't get me wrong, but last time I counted there was near 30 ROMs.
Which of them are really "original" and deserve to be here?
More than this post deserves to be in development!!!
But he does have a point!
The dev forums are for development threads only - not for discussions. If you don't understand that then don't post anywhere.
Edit: I've msg'd a mod.
A lot of the "roms" in this thread are not "roms" but "kernels", and yes they are original
Its all about choice mate simple as that if you want to build a rom you can as can many others its nothing but a hobby .
jje
its all quite pathetic really the state of this forum. Mods have made a crap decision, the vast majority of people know that but they dont want to go back on it and look stupid.
They should get over themselves, its a bloody forum to help and share things. If they wanted to tidy up the development section a bit then the answer is quite simple and been mentioned many times.
Have a ROM section, a KERNEL section and a THEME section
a rom is a rom is a rom, stop sodding about with them.
They changed it this way as a temporary solution because of the crapload of roms in there. They're working on a new interface to make everything easier. Stop *****ing now okay?

[Q] [New classifications] The next step in this forum. ?

Isn't it time to rearrange the forum a bit?
I can't find my way through all the [kernels] [mods] [devs] etc.
I opt for something like this for the development forums:
Galaxy S II Original Android Development
- Roms
- Kernels
- Mods
- Etc
Galaxy S II Android Development
- Roms
- Kernels
- Mods
- Etc
Galaxy S II Themes and Apps
- Apps
- Themes
What do you guys think?
Its already the same, all you have to do is search with the appropriate keyword.

OP makes no sense here we have a question posted in the wrong forum .Making more work for the mods who have to move it to Q&A.

Search bar is your Friend. as Bala said, its already arranged for easy search anyway.
personally instead of original development and android development id get rid of both and just have seperate sections for
Roms
Kernels
Themes

I don't like the extra hassle of having to search, I'd rather have this big pile of everything organised.

Agree with this.
My preference would be to start off with a section purely for those that know nothing .After ten thousand posts in that section they are then allowed to read the FAQS and GUIDES for the more complicated stuff .
jje
how would you then classify a rom that has a custom kernel and custom themes, like the new ics.
it would fit into all three categories. Would you put a thread in each with the same subject ?

No, it would go into the ROM thread as that is why people would be downloading it. No one downloads a whole Rom just for the kernel do they.
This is my opinion and not the opinion of XDA.
I'm all for formality and having things easier but then is it easier to complicate a user??
My answer would be yes you give people more options it leads to more confusion.
Such as still people not knowing what a development area is for posting in even though Q&A is just above ^^ or is it General this post goes in???

Separate sub forums for ICS & GB

Dear Modes...
Is it possible to separate the Android Development forum to sub forums as GB roms & ICS roms.
Its becoming very crowdy and confusing now....
Hope someone is listening...
+ 1 yes, yes
I actually was thinking the same but, when ICS ROM gets officially released (probably in a few weeks), development will only be on ICS ROMs and GB ROMs will be a thing of the past.
But still, I would love to see separate space for ICS ROMs...
This is a great idea - MODS do it
Yet another poster who should know better and post in the correct section instead of messing the forums up with inane posts .

+1
Great idea !
I don't think I've ever seen sub forums on XDA for separate OS iterations, so I doubt it.
By the way, this is a question probably more suited for PM or at the very least Q&A forum, definitely not Android Development...
1) Absolutely should not have had a thread created to pose this question.
2) I don't see the point of splitting the forum further purely along the lines of different Android versions. Having separate forums for the different variations of the SGS2 is fine/necessary, splitting the I9100/T forum into ICS & GB, meh.
all i think is things just need a bit of a cleanup, all the roms that have touch wiz and sammy stuff should go in the original android section and aosp themed roms and heavilly themed roms should go in android development, either that of have sub sections like they do on hd2
Most of the so called custom ROMs are photoshopped icons + JKay's mods. Once ICS gets official and JKay ports his mods to it, Gingebread "development" will disappear on its own, so no need for separate sections.
What we really need is to move all photoshop+JKay stock roms from Original Development to Development, so that original development section gets cleaned up a bit.

I was thinking the same.
Is not a good idea for me. When will be released officially ICS will have no sense to have two sub-forum.
Not supporting the idea. GB forum would be a desert in a few months, so they would have to merge it back or delete it.
it's a pain find all the info the "Newbies and Noobs" need. +1 I think forums need a cleanup.
Some post from Android Dev are full of the same questions! over and over again.

You hit the nail on the head noobs posting same question over and over . Why is cause they wont search and dont even read the instructions .So whats the point this is a developers forum not a help forum .Rule is if you are to lazy to search read and learn you dont belong on here .
XDA does not cater to the IWant I Want Know Know crowd .

I think this is a great idea, especially for us noobies out there!

Hahahaha i'm not a Android Dev but when i read some topics about "ROMS and FW" i just want a gun to shoot those noobs.
I think a better idea it's rise the amount of helpful topics to new members. Some like 15 or 20 Seriously!

Please suggest a rom to me, coming from SGS2

Hi,
I recently switched from S2 to S3. I was using a lot of roms on my S2, mostly Leomar/Checkrom and later on I swapped to cm9, because I love the look of Android 4.
Now I got hands on an S3 and to my disappointment, I have to read about a lot of problems when it comes to JB, even on stock release. The fact that Samsung didn't make use of project butter really baffled me.
So now I am looking for a rom with the following (hopefully possible) aspects (I don't care if it is aosp or stock, but I guess it has to be a stock rom):
+Fully working Bluetooth for my car audio/phone
+Smooth UI (best possible without butter on S3)
+No bloatware, but new sammy features should be working
+AOSP look/theme, if possible (master vertumus still doing his magic )
JB would be nice, but I would go with ICS too, at least until they fixed their JB rom.
OFC I recently ran over the forum pages and for me it looks like checkrom (either ICS or JB release) would be a good fit for me.
Thanks!

Please try roms out yourself.
Kthxbai Inb4lock.
Goto rom threads
Read changelog
Have a look on the rom
Read feedback
Choose one
Download and flash
《swagged from aokp》
OP, please read up and try them out. There are numerous options I know, but each rom/kernel will perform on each phone differently and opinions will vary also. Thank you.

[Q] I need sumbodeeh to help me

Hello everyone, not really new to this forum, but just created one account. xda noob. try to search all over the xda forum and googled, doesn't seems to answer my question. So, please, help me out.
SO. The question is,
i am looking for a ROM that is pure, super pure, ultra pure, without any customization for my i9100G that is running kitkat. Something like SuperNexus, but to my knowledge the project is now closed, and I am a freak person I can't live with the bug inside the rom (browser flashing bug). so is there any ROM that provide the pureness and cleanness that I am looking for?
Thanks!
Rom recommendations are forbidden here. You're expected to make a nandroid, go over to the two development sections, read some rom threads, and try out some roms. Expect mods to close this thread presently.

opps. ahhh rom recommendation....sorry.
As said before, ROM and other recommendation threads aren't allowed on XDA.
Why? Well, all the developers work really hard to bring users top-notch ROMs, and some are different from others. There could be feature packed ROMs that compromise on performance, or minimal ROMs with lagless performance, or there could be the best of both worlds. Either way, choosing one ROM over the others, for whatever reasons, can be rather disheartening to the developers who work long and hard.
What do you do now? Only you can answer that question. Flash a few ROMs, see which suits you. Who knows? You may end up happy with a ROM that could've gone unnoticed if you had got recommendations.
Happy flashing!
