Hey, im new to the RAZR, coming from HTC Evo 3D with CWM it was very simple to do so , also the htc form was very organized in the way that they had a "sticky" that was always updated with new roms and kernels. To say the least i love the RAZR but would like to speed er up a bit as i was use to my evo being clocked at 1.8Ghz aha, so if anyone could help me with ways to OC with a new kernel or even a stock rom thats either ICS or JB but OC and clean with few bugs looking for something stable. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated ,
Thanks

Try to use the expert version of motomizer.
However it seems Razr can only oc to most 1.4ghz using stock rom

You could try a new rom like Cyanogen mod 7. It should work. Also use setcpu with it.
2.1? Time for a new ROM! From what I understand Gene's latest ROM supports overclocking, if you want to keep Sense on your phone.

Its dependent on the kernel, not the rom. If the kernel doesn't support higher frequencies then you wont be able to overclock. I'm not aware of any overclock kernels for 2.1 on the aria but somebody else might.

Only reason I stay on 2.1 is 2.2/2.3 aren't smooth for me. But isn't it possible to edit the sense kernel to support overclocking?

Yes and this was already done in new roms (Cyanogen mod) based off of an overclockable kernel.
Okay. I need a 2.1 compatible OC kernel. Not CM

There is no reason to stay with 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 are hella smooth on this phone.

Try cm7 with my custom kernel, it's very smooth.

Thats just it. I want a smooth sense, but that's like impossible with this phone.

I put the Liberated ROM on my gf's phone and it runs nicely, without overclocking. Throw in setCPU and there should be not much that can slow it down.
Ehh. I think ill just go back to an iPhone or maybe stick with getting the Inspire. This phone ruined Android for me.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Well with that attitude you might aswell get an iPhone, it seems to fit your personality better.
Having said that... normal 2.1 sense without OC is smooth as butter, as is liberated 2.2.2 with and without OC. Or, if sense is what you're complaining about, install CM7 like others have suggested to eliminate it entirely.
I'm sorry you don't like your phone. I always like to try mine out at the store before I buy them.
Well where I got my phone they don't let you try them out. I was just going by what people said on here and else where for my phone choosing.
But the main issue is, I use my phone like a laptop almost. I check xda all the time. I use it for entertainment. I text almost 24/7. I also use it as my only music player, as my mp3 players never last long. But then phone doesn't perform well enough in most or all categories. Iphones kind of do, but I consider them overrated and bland. Even with jailbreak. I like HTC sense because its got enough eye candy, and its very user friendly. I also prefer CM7 as well due to its blazing speeds. But I want to have a phone that suits most of my needs, and I don't know if my thoughts on the inspire are correct or not, but I think it would suit me perfect, as the aria definitely does not.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
You would be better suited to get a phone with a larger screen and armv7 processor. The inspire has both of these although the battery life is not as great out of the box. I would also recommend the Samsung captivate, as it has a super amoled screen but not front facing camera. CM7 has just added support for it as well.
Sent from HTC Aria - CM7 NIGHTLY + Drowning Kernel
Well I don't really need the super quality screen of the captivate, as I'm not a freak on screen quality. But I'm near my charger quite a bit, so bl isn't a giant issue either. My biggest issue is speed and screen size. I have to type in landscape with the aria or I mess up every other word.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
I suggested the Captivate because it has an arguably better screen and can be had for cheaper than the inspire. The inspire will seem awkwardly huge coming from the aria (3.2" vs 4.3"), where as the captivate is still a step up at 4" but easier to handle with one hand. Also with ARMv7 processors you get REAL flash support (10.1+) whereas the Aria (and any other ARMv6 phone) only gets Flash lite 3.1(?) this is a huge caveat for me and will probably be my excuse to upgrade.
Well when I first got the aria, it was because looked down on touchwiz. I wanted a phone I could like out of the box, then root it for more fun. The aria sort of hit that spot, but I think the inspire will hit it out of the park. I really like sense, and thats my main reason for getting a sense phone.

Well now I'm checking out the atrix. 50$ upgrade refurbished, sounds nice to me. Future proof myself and get rid of blur and well be all good. Right?

I'm running the stock ROM rooted and all. After using cynogenmod for a bit I switched back to stock and I can no longer overclock past 1200. Can someone explain or help me out.

I think we cannot over clock (OC) with stock kernel. Try Entropy's kernel or Siyah. I am using CM and Siyah and I can OC. I didn't try with stock kernel however.
Thank you. I'll try it and get back

I was able to overclock to 1.452 stock rooted with Zedomax kernel using Tergrak Overclock from Android Market... give that a try
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777
Kernel bro. You need a kernel with the abilities to overclock. Stock kernel can't.
Tegrak in the market. Buy the ultimate version for oc as high as ya want + core and internal voltage tweaks.
The free version lets you oc a little & no voltage adjustments.

This may sound a bit patronizing but if you cannot over clock due to the wrong kernel and not realize it, it may be best to do more research and make sure you understand what's going on before trying to over clock.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
It does sound patronizing, but I can't blame you for trying to warn him/her. A lot of people have experience with computer OCing though, and may be new to Android.

I understand that people overclock their computers, but overclocking an android device is different since you cannot just boot into the bios, thus I encourage people to research before trying something they may be unfamiliar with. Otherwise someone will have to end up hoping their warranty/phone insurance or whatever will cover something going wrong due to overclocking.
you can only overclock with a kernel that is compatible with overclock
Do you really need to over clock? I haven't seen a reason to on this beast of a phone. Its not like the captivate was.

How does this thread keep getting bigger? Problem solved in 2nd post, finished in the 4th. Lock it down, Red5.
Ok, so I've been having issues since I downgraded and I've searched everywhere for an answer. Running meanrom 4.8 was hboot 1.19 but dg'ed to 1.12 and lazy panda. The only custom kernel I can get to boot is Enoch, which still causes screen tearing, but still boots. I've tried zarbos kernel on every setting and it causes serious issues with the screen starting with boot animation, then reboots. Same with cm10 and aosp kernel. Mean kernel seems to give me the best luck on speed @1728, but is lacking in governors. Only thing close to that I can get is 1512 on Enoch.

Mikey does not recommend using custom kernels on MeanROM they mess with his tweaks
Ah, that makes sense, but I have the exact same issue with aosp and komodo as well, no matter where I set the clock speed.. I appreciate everyone's input and apologize for my ignorance on this matter..

So, I'm not sure how this is, but I can over clock on meanrom kernel to 1809 with no problems. I'm wondering if it's not the governors that my phone doesn't like for some reason..
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I have the same issues. I can run the latest Enoch fine and Super lte with the mean kernel oc to 1.8 but other than that kernels just bootloop Im on hboot 1.15.
It's more than likely a voltage issue. Search out viperboys voltage script. I flash it after I flash any kernel because I had the same problem

Put my wifes TB on skyraider zeus (Bamf). The stock kernel seems a bit laggy with very poor battery life. I have been looking for a solid OC kernel, but it seems as if any of the links I find are dead.
Can someone please help me out with some options to run with this Rom, suggestions and/or links?
thank you in advance.
Me personally I would use imoseyon lean kernel. By far the best kernel for the t bolt. I can give you a link. Remind me what sense version that rom is.

So I have had this phone for about a week and the ROMs/kernels I've had on it only go up to 1732mhz. I started looking for jb ROMs today and came upon this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831841) so using it for the first time I noticed I had tons of profiles and a clock speed up to 1944mhz. I attempted to go past my usual oc and I got to 1789mhz but after 1832mhz my phone freezes...why do these kernels or ROMs have high clocks that I or others can't get to without issues? It just makes no sense for something to be there that can't be used w/o issues. Anyway if anyone can please tell me how to get higher clocks or am I doing something wrong? Any help will be thanked.

It seems all newer kernels can't go higher than 1670 MHz. I tried it too, but had reboots. I'm on ICS ROM now and OCed to 1836 MHz and it works just fine with Cool kernel v5.4

I use Cool ICS v18 and kernel that comes with the ROM. I think you can use ICS without a problem on your H-boot. Make a backup of your ROM and try. If anything goes wrong, you can restore your previous ROM
