Will the lock screen delay on AOSP ROMs for this phone ever be fixed? Call me crazy but it absolutely drives me nuts and is really the only thing holding me back from flashing some of these cool new ROM releases.

As much as I'd like to take your reply as inspiration, I wouldn't know the first place to start. On top of that I'm mildly incompetent when it comes to this stuff.
turn off you lock screen if you dont like the delay... i dont use it at all and my device never pocket dials or does anything random.
^^^ +1
No lock screen.
Interesting. I didn't even think of that. Does disabling the lock screen reduce the screen on and off delay?

yessir that's why I posted :silly:
When I got to thinking about it wasn't sure if the screen delay was actually tied to the lock screen. I just assumed it was since those actions usually go together.
Anyway. I'll give that a try. Thanks for the tip!

Okay so today, for some strange reason my phone has decided to give me a fairly thick, red outline/boarder around my screen every time I touch it. It also flashes up randomly without touching the screen. It's starting to get on my nerves now.
Any ideas on how to fix please?

What rom are you running? Any of the ICS leaks or official samsung roms?
Could be one of the developer options, There was an option I found which flashes the screen and shows touch and screen update data. Check under there. Settings--> developer options.
Other than that it could be a faulty connection to the screen.

XXLPH rooted.
& Okay thanks, I'll take a look at that. In development what would it come under?
& I doubt its a faulty connection, but I guess it's worth looking in to.

Yeah ics roms have that. It is in the developer options but I can't remember which option it was. Maybe Google will help. Just remember to reboot for it to take effect I think.

What it sounds like it the dev option mentioned in the title got turned on, possibly while you were checking things out. Dont know what it means but I actually turned mine on just to check it. It is definitely in the developer options. Hope this helps
Hi,
I just wonder if it is possible to port face unlock feature to evo 3d? Maybe developers can do it after ICS officially released. I have no idea what galaxy nexus has more than an evo?
PS. this can be a dream or maybe dreams can be true

are they easy to use? i mean if they really do the same thing like galaxy nexus. and what about battery drain? last of all, do you know any app which can do its job clearly?
Visidon app lock works really well. Free version only locks apps, paid locks whole phone. No extra battery drain that I notice.

do the research your self just search voidlock or something like that...and after your done post what you find... =))

Most likely, with the impending release of ICS, face unlock is a general feature of ICS that probably will be included with Sense 3.6 OTA.

it looks more annoying than fun imo
saw some people at work playing with it on a galaxy s and a sensation
had to be in the right light - and repeated attempts to get a lock...
good idea - but as said - fun for a couple of days.
photos also are a bit of a flaw... maybe they should make you do several movements instead and recognize that.. but again probably more annoying as you may keep getting it _slightly_ wrong
Bad lighting will render it useless. And it takes more time to unlock.

Google pushing faceunlock so hard, and the truth is its almost useless.
This is almost the same thing Apple did with Siri and we all ridiculed them horribly.

They should combine it with the normal pattern unlock. So if the light is too low you can still unlock it with the pattern.

This is a solution, but the fact of the matter is that it takes me 1/2 a second to draw a pattern and its takes the camera at least 2 seconds to unlock the device. With that combination i would simply draw my pattern every time unless i was trying to show someone how the facial unlock works. And dont think im alone, cause i know most people who would use the facial lock feature are those who already have a password on their phone, and ive seen countless threads on how to get rid of the initial lockscreen in favour of only having the pattern screen. With the number of people who are lazy enough to not want to double swipe it leads me to believe hardly anyone would actually use the facial unlock unless it was flawless and faster...
To tell you the truth my pattern is a simple L from top corner to opposite bottom corner. And although simple and easy to draw, chances are nobody would ever guess it.

you can do that in lots of ways too... 1, 2, 3, 6, 9.... 1, 2, 5, 6, 9 etc.
Just for kicks, I think it would be cool to have an optional soft key mod; I know AOKP has the option to turn them on or off. If anybody is interested, I could look into porting them over. I'm no dev but I have Eclipse, all of the SDK stuff, and Photoshop; so I'm decently equipped. All I need is a little guidance :b.

From what I can tell the images for the softkeys would be in the systemui
if you set your dpi to around 160 or so you should be able to get tablet ui on your phone but with some Fc's on certain apps so those have to be replaced with market replacements

Just tried this. Doesn't work. Editing bools and strings in xml doesn't seem to work at all with this device. At least not without some extra work. Probably because of sense.
why?
why would you want on screen soft keys? it just seems kind of redundant to have the actual buttons and the on screen soft keys

Umm... no. Its not. For it to happen to a lot of people on different roms and kernels? You really think its a kernel issue?
It's probably an issue with cwm and it's also probably related to the type of kernel. To say the truth, I don't think it's that big a deal. It has posed no real problems to me when flashing, and if anything, removing the battery will do the trick. A minor inconvenience in an otherwise perfect tool.
yes, i encountered this issue too. I wonder how to turn off phone from recovery without take out battery
But NOT big deal for me

Its not a big deal, but its annoying. You'll have to wait till your phone boots to be able to turn it off. Taking off the case, then taking off the battery cover and taking out the battery is a lot of work to just turn your phone off.

You are completely right. However, it's a free tool.
I mean, even the stock Samsung firmware gives Fc and issues every now and then and they do get paid by us users (both on acquisition and through Google adds, and free marketing data)

Pardon my ignorance, I have seen S2W mentioned many times in the Team Venom Viper thread but I am not able to figure out exactly what it is.

In viperROM i'm pretty sure you can set S2W for unlocking the device at the lockscreen too
I noticed the name wasn't really said here so yea. I believe its called Swipe2Wake or S2W. You can get it from cubed kernel or viperROM.
My first thought was it'd drain alot of battery, but it really doesn't so don't worry about that. Handy feature if you want it!

Agreed. Ive been getting really good battery on the latest cubed and w/ s2w. Its especially useful when im walking with it only using one hand and dont wanna have to finagle it around in my hand to get to the power button even though I have rather large hands. (DNA + Otterbox = even LARGER)

Just to correct something. You need a kernel with s2w to work. Viper lets you toggle it if your kernel supports it, but viper itself doesn't make s2w work.
