Recently ive been getting this thing that my phone wont charge on an AC charger straight away.
I have to plug it in my PCs usb cable, then plug it in AC so it will charge i have tried 3 different AC chargers , all Samsungs original ones!
It stopped doing this for a cople of weeks then started again.. ive also tried a couple of roms but the rom doesnt seem to be an issue.. Atn im running NeatROM 4.2 with the stock PhilZ kernel.
Any ideas??

Clean install of stock in the first instance to rule in/out hardware issues. If it happens with a clean install of stock as well; Clean USB port, then replace USB port/flex cable, then return to service centre as probably issue with charging/USB circuitry if the first two don't help.
Okay, ill try an Stock install when i have time.. service center is not an option since i bought it used and doesnt have an warranty anymore.. if i cant get it fix i think ill sell it and let someone else deal with the issue, lol

Might want to check battery stuff as well while you're at it; clean the contacts in the phone/on the battery, maybe try another battery depending on how keen you are. Given how long the phone has been out, original batteries should be starting to die off in their droves right about now (and earlier if you charge/discharge a lot).

Hey there,
My phone drained while plugged in and I noticed after I unplugged it the charge began to climb. Ideas? Anyone else?

Dont want to be the pessimist but my brothers phone did this. He sent it off to samsung and they sent him a bill for £150. Apparently it was water damage. There are other threads on here though have been diagnosed as faulty USB connection on the main board.
Ricey
Well it hasn't touched water.. seems the charge count has stopped going up.

Neither had my brothers, apparently its sensitive that the slightest condensation can cause the indicators to turn. Thats what they told my brother.
Ricey
Just an Android bug.
When charging, the phone thinks it's draining, so it says; it's losing power.
When decharging, it thinks it's charging... Phone Samsung, send some photos (with the phone) and make sure the water-sticker has all it's crosses VISIBLE!
If you don't want to risk a bill yet, then try flashing a different ROM... (First, backup, incase it doesn't work, flash stock ROM via Odin, if that doesn't work, try a different custom ROM, if that doesn't work, you phone's f**ked...)
I will try this tonight when I am home. Thank you for the input. I will post results

Phone will not charge now..
OK... didn't have a chance to flash a different ROM. if anyone has any suggestions on which rom to go with I would appreciate it.
Today it seems that the battery will not charge. It sees that it is plugged in but it does not take charge. The saga continues! I am thinking about getting another battery just to test this out.
You must rule out bad roms by flashing a stock rom .

Another observation: while off battert reads about 40 percent and when i turned it on it says 14 percent

Mine did that like a week after buying the phone. They switched the usb plug in warranty repair.
Has been working fine for ~6months now

ah... so i am going to be paying lol. thank you very much for the input!
Common bug.
What seems to happen with mine is that the battery miscalculated the amount it's drained by when you use it for a while - For example, using google maps as a car GPS. After you get to the destination, and turn off the GPS and Data, the battery APPEARS to regain charge - it's not really, it's just recalculating the amount it was drained by.
A battery refresh will sort it, it's also very common if you reboot/crash at under 50% power. It reboots at around 10% and ticks back up to the 'correct' value after an hour or so.
It gets worse after a few weeks of use, and a battery refresh (full charge, shut down, remove battery for 2 minutes, replace battery, fully charge, switch on), sets everything back to default again and it behaves itself for a while.
Not had it happen for a couple months now, but I've not been dinking around with flashing stuff of late so it's not been crashing horribly (which was the main CAUSE of this bug), in the first place.
Here is some news... tried a different USB cable and guess what? No more charge issues or over voltages.

Don't buy a new battery!
Before paying for anything;
while the phone is running, pull the battery...
2. (Leave the battery out) Plug your phone in, if it recognizes the charger, leave it to clear the RAM properly, plug the battery back in, boot into CWM and wipe battery stats! Once done, take from charger, unplug battery, plug it back in, then leave the phone powered down, and plug charger in. Leave it for an hour or two, then boot into Android. Now it should work fine
It's a problem with your usb charging port. It will progresssively get worse and ICS will keep telling you that its paused charging due to overvoltage. The only way to truly fix it is to have the charging port plus circuit board replaced. Happened to me a week back and I tried virtually everything- stock roms, removed root, replaced batteries etc. None of that worked. Some posts said it was a port problem. Went to a tech guy I knew and he confirmed the issue when he disconnected the port. It was relatively cheap for me to fix but some people have climed that samsung charges a large amount to fix it. You're better off trying to get it fixed on your own. If you're on warranty, try and claim it
Ok let me start my sad story. Months ago i upgraded to ICS and all was fine untill the phone started giving me that error " charging paused voltage to high". I used my nandroid to go back to GB and it was the same. Since then i changed Ics versions, now im on Cm9. I used contact cleaner spray and it actually worked for a few days. Then i got the problem again. In the last month there was no more "voltage to high" error but the phone was not charging anymore, usb or ac, unless i reboot the device. Then it says its charging but it doesnt say USB or AC, just charging. And today it stopped charging period. No matter if i reboot or not. The thing is that i bet you will all say its the USB port, and i might agree but if the micro usb port is broken tell me why odin recognize the device instantly in download mode and flashing goes smooth or why when i use my USB OTG cable my flash drive connects flawlessly and the copy operation runs perfectly? I dont get it, thats why i need help because i love my Sgs2. If there are other threads i appologize but im a seaman and im sailing alot hence my online time is either very limited or expensive.
Thanks in anticipation!

Obviously a problem with the charging circuitry. You can replace the board yourself apparently (not something I'd try), you can send it in for warranty repair or a local non-Samsung authorised repair shop should be able to repair it fairly quickly I would have thought. We see this problem on here all the time.
You could always try another battery and/or charger if you still think it isn't this problem. If you do have the same issue with a new battery/charger, then it's definitely the problem.
You've done everything you possibly can to rule a hardware issue in/out (you've gone back to stock, back to GB, cleaned the contacts), there isn't a great deal more you can do other than the above.
Hi,
Since 1 week now I have some huge difficulties to charge my GS3. For exemple when I plug it before going to sleep, in the morning there is only 50%. Sometimes I plug it and it stop the charge itself (not at 100%), i have to move the cable a little to continue the charge.
I tried several cable and plugs, nothing change.
Does anybody experienced this? What can I do?
Ps : I already read this post but I didn't find any answer.
Thx
I presume you charged the phone through the AC power? I had similar issue prior which was resolved once I wiped my Battery Stats. Is your phone rooted?
yes my phone is rooter I have omega V35 ROM and i already tried to wipe the battery stats and nothing changed
Im sure you have also clear cache, wipe, reflash the ROM? Its highly unlikely that all of your chargers are malfunctioning, If the phone is still within the warranty period, it may be time for you to visit Samsung Service Centre (SSC)...but unroot first!
same issue here

no i didn't tried to reflash the ROM cause it was working great with this ROM before, I contacted samsung and they will repare it but i need to find the bill first. Is it really necessary to unroot the phone? Installing a stock ROM is good or is there something else to do to unroot it?

unrooting is in reference to returing to stock ROM. SSC will invalid warranties to rooted phones.
i just reflash the ROM and the phone is still very slow to charge.
I will send back to samsung i think.
i just installed the Omage ROM V38 and i still have the problem, you can look at this graph :
Take battery out for 10 minutes. Plug back in and see. If not possibly battery port issue, my wife's had to be sent back for it.

So different USB cables didn't helped? That usually does the trick. Other than that try kernel such as yank kernel which allows fast charging option.

First flash STOCK ROM and see what's gonna happen.
If the problem still persists, send your phone for service.
Make sure there are no signs of custom ROMs and Kernels.
Solution is the CABLE
Here is a confirmation of the solution from Turkey: It IS the CABLE...
Check the cable end that goes into the S3, if you see 5 places but with only 4 wires, it charges VERY slowly... However, I used a $5 charger which had 5 wires in the end that goes into galaxy S3 and voila!

Can anyone confirm this?
My stock Samsung cable has those 4 connections instead of, what looks like the 5 that can fit in. And it charges so slowly!
9/10 its the cable. I don't know bout what is said above. Mine charged fast then suddenly started charging slowly. It was to do with the kernels usb charger stability detection.
Changed cable and all good

So if I install stock Android, will that change the kernal and therefore fix the issue?
I don't see why I should have to pay and wait for a new cable, even if it's only a few quid and a few days :/

All Samsung kernels have the detection. Whether changing the kernel or cable fixes it or not is not knowable.
all you can do is try. can you not borrow a cable to test it? Surely you know someone with a cable?
yes, mine s3 to does charge slow i have the Purelook HD rom please help, take my phone on charger from 4& next morning about 50- 60 & only charged!!
I have a similar issue here, although my problem only started with latest arhd 25.0 Rom, never had this with previous roms of arhd....some times the charge is very fast , then next time it will charge to 19% then stop, then next time it's fast then will be very slow... very intermittent, I have changed chargers. Still same results, going to try wipe the battery stats to see if that helps.

Hi Guys I've looked at loads of other related posts for this but nothing seems to be the same as mine, let me try and give you a bit of background on this it wont be perfect as it is my sisters phone and she doesn't know anything. my sister left her original charger at her boyfriends and therefore had to use a cheaper non-stock one she had. Every-time she used it her phone would play up do things like open the car mode and keep rebooting, she didn't think much of it and used it anyway. Her phone died (ran out of battery) one evening and she used the strange charger to charge her phone overnight this however seems to have caused issues since then it wont boot it goes past the Samsung boot screen then the o2 boot screen then just repeats (sounds like a boot loop) note the phone has never been rooted and is still 100% stock.
So this is the issue I figured using ODIN and flashing the stock firmware would fix the issue but I cannot for the life of me get the phone to pick up on ANY computer at all I've tried different charger cables, different computers, Different OS's, cleaning the port and pretty much everything else the internet has currently had to offer. I really am at a loss here I cant use recovery as its not rooted I cant use something like Kies Air or mobile odin as I cant boot into the room and using ODIN is im unable to connect to any computers.
So I guys I'm reaching out to you here what can I do to fix this I really need some advice
Thanks in advance.
Say hi to your sister for me.
Oh and her battery must be dead because of the charger.
Usb port could also be busted.
Get another fully charged battery and check it out.
PS: I didn't even read the thread.

Done.
Change usb port, it's busted.
If in warranty...well have them take a look at it.

Do you think there is anything else I can try I don't want to jump directly into replacing parts/handset.
If it's a hardware fault, not much while you can do other than change the part. The part itself is cheap, isn't even hard to swap it out

As of last night, whenever I try to connect my phone to either my outlet charger, my xbox, my computer...anything, it never even charges. The icon on the screen still says, "Connect your charger" even if it's connected. The sound doesn't even come on, and the battery icon doesn't move when it's connected (obviously, because it's not charging lol). But the only way I can use my phone is by charging my battery first. (Luckily I had a spare battery that I had already charged) and now I'm looking to buy a battery charger so I can switch battery's whenever I want. It'll be a pain in the a**, so there must be a way to fix it. Sometimes when I disconnect my charger, the icon pops up saying, "USB Connected". I've tried 4 different chargers also, and still no luck. I still haven't bought my warranty so I don't know if I can still do that and exchange it.
Any suggestions? I already tried different battery's, removing the battery for a couple of minutes, charging the phone while it's off (it seems to work but the battery icon goes from 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and to full, then back to empty, and it does it again, but it freezes and it takes awhile and then finally it does it again, but it doesn't really charge.)
My phone IS rooted, and I have ShoStock3 with Clockwork Mod. I'm thinking of reverting back to my Clockwork Backup from March but I don't think that'll work. I don't want to loose anything from my Internal Storage that I may have stored.
Please help

Is there any way I could fix it? And is there anyway I could clean it if it's dirty?
By the way, what's that charging port USB Dock Connector for? I've never seen them before so I dont know what they're for or how to use it.
Edit: Nevermind, I did my research and found out what it's for lol. I don't think I'll want to go that route, I hate taking apart computer's or phones because I'm not good at following instructions and I sometimes loose the parts lol.
This has happened to me three times. It's the charging module. You have to get it repaired I'm sad to say.
