Window/Transition Animation Scale Tip - AT&T LG Optimus G

http://www.cultofandroid.com/11143/...disable-animations-for-a-snappier-experience/
I found this article after tinkering with my phone and thinking why does it not transition as fast as my GSII between pages. Not saying the phone is slow, but just not as quickly as my GSII considering the hardware. Well I changed the default Window/Transition scale from 1x to .5x and it makes a difference. The setting is under Developer options. I haven't turned it off completely because that change alone was good enough for me. Hope it helps someone. Mods feel free to move if posted in the wrong section.

SetCPU Useful Yet?

Just moved from my Nexus One to the Fascinate because I need to get on a better network than T-Mo. Rooted about 15 minutes after I pulled it out of the box, and removed all the ****e already. Trying to figure out if SetCpu is going to have any real benefits for me yet. When I loaded it, it read a conservative govenor, and a min. of 100 - max. of 1000.
What I don't want to do is set a sleep downclock or change the governor settings and cause anything to go haywire. Anyone have any input on this? I know the device is new, but it's a Galaxy S variant, and there's lots of dev work already in process. Any input would be awesome.
Edit: My apologies for wrong section. This should have been in General.
I managed to lock up the device with a few profiles, like 200-400 on sleep and 200-800 on charging. Mainly when I get a notification or plug it into usb, it would lock up and require a reboot.
Basically doesn't quite work yet.
It locks up my fascinate when the device screen goes off.
+1 to the not ready yet.

Input appreciated. Figured as much. I'm sincerely hoping we'll see some development after 2.2 hits. I'm used to the flurry of activity in the Nexus section, and am a bit of a "flashaholic" lol.
I don't dev, but I damn well donate.
I hope I made the right call with the jump to a Fascinate. If we get out developed by the Droid Xers, I'm going to cry.

Button Brightness

I searched and didn't see any threads related to this yet, so please forgive me if this has been covered. Is there a way to adjust the brightness of the LEDs behind the 4 buttons on the bottom of the Vibrant? I have seen this touted as a positive feature in articles comparing the Vibrant to the Captivate, but I'd actually rather they were dim or have their brightness linked to the screen brightness setting.
Cheers.

Where did you read that?
I've never heard of this until now and I'm a regular on XDA. Love your idea though
I edited the OP without re-reading and before submitting and it may have resulted in some confusion. It is a fact that the buttons are brighter on the Vibrant than on the Captivate. I have read at least one comparison article where this was touted as a positive feature (although I've also read where it was called out for being distracting, as it is for me). I did not mean that I had read anywhere that the brightness could indeed be adjusted on the Vibrant.
Not sure how you interpreted the OP, but thought I should clarify anyway.
I think there are two options here:
1) The Captivate uses a fixed resistor to limit the brightness of the LEDs
2) The Captivate simply takes advantage of a programmable VRM to limit the brightness of the LEDs
If it's option 1, well ... ****
But if it's option 2, I REALLY hope somebody figures out a way to access it.
I think if someone had figured how to access it w would have a LED notification by now.

Not exactly. Flashing a chip once to use a different voltage at all times is not the same as interfacing with it to allow for flashing notifications.

Perma Temp Root + Autokiller = Awesome

Just something to try if you're using the perma-temp root. Grab Autokiller and set it to ultimate (and just for ****s and gigggles, I did the UI optimization that increases homescreen events to 60), and you'll immediately notice less RAM usage and further battery life.
It's pretty awesome
And no, Autokiller is not a task manager (although it can be used as one).
Findings:
250,275,300 Seems to be the most stable if you multitask a lot.
300,325,350 is for those of you who are like me and don't need to multitask (single app at a single time kind of user).
You can go higher, but be careful. For a test, I like to set it higher, turn off the screen, wait a bit for the minfree settings to close off apps, and then text yourself from another phone or from GVoice. If you recieve it, those values are good (depending on your phone usage). For me, as long as the messaging app can stay open and not get killed off, I'm perfectly happy.
Also, at the second set of values (the higher ones), I'm noticing a distinct speed and smoothenss increase in the Rosie carousel as well as the notifications pulldown.

Aha! A familiar face, always welcome to see you here
I decided screw it, got a good deal on a 3D with my early upgrade (wasn't due till June of next year) and honestly, I'm pretty damn happy with this out of the box.
Thanks, will give it a try.
I'm experimenting now with higher settings. I'm currently trying out 250,275,300.

Welcome aboard brother! I can't wait to ticker with this device too. This weekend I'll be able to get away from work and try this out.
How much decrease in RAM usage did you notice with your finding?
Bumped it up to 275,300,325, still not stability issues yet.

Well, right now, I have about 320 MB of free RAM. I get that "free RAM" is a performance myth, and that unused RAM is useless. But the benefit for me is less battery is being used.
this is good info, thanks
Keep in mind that the higher you go, the less stable multitasking will be. I'm kind of a "single app at a single time" kind of user, so I can afford to go quite high. For instance, if you set it really high, and start listening to music, and then go into your Gmail app, there's a chance that the music app might automatically be killed off.
Homescreen Optimization setting? That's not in this all is it? So how does that go. I'd like to try that one too.

That's in the "Adanced Settings" section of Autokiller. TO find out what they all do, go here: http://andrs.w3pla.net/autokiller/kernel. Keep in mind, not all of them may make a difference on your phone.
The specific one I'm talking about is this:
UI
Increases "maximum-events-per-sec" to 60 for smoother Homescreen scrolling and transitions.

I haven't looked at the build.prop at all, so I don't know if this was already set or not.

Just a heads up, sometimes the perma-temp root doesn't always hold after a reboot. If it doesn't, your autokiller settings won't work until you re-root.
Can't wait till this temp-root dance is over

That's why in the advanced section, you make it apply the tweaks after 2 minutes, which should be enough time to get it all temp-rooted again
Good call on this liquid! Thanks for the heads up. Phone is running great!

Had to push mine from Ultimate to the next step down. Sense was having to reload into memory sometimes.
we'll see how that works. it was nice seeing 250mb free though. lol not sure how much battery it actually saved. have to test that tomorrow.

Screen brightness on 2 different sgs2's

Hey
I had the chance to play with a stock sgs2 today, stock 2.3.5 software.
Mine is running lite'ning rom 6.1 + #k2-18 kernel which works great
But I noticed a big difference in screen brightness
My phone is back from when sgs2 was released this one was 2 days old.
I tried to lower brightness on both phones to minimum. Mine was alot brighter, its weird imo. Any clues on how to explain this? Is it Rom related ?
Anyways, for some time ago I found some script somewhere here on xda that would guide into some settings to manually lower brightness on the screen. But I really cant find that topic anymore :/ even google isnt my friend on this one..
I always run the light on lowest, because I can easely see stuff on the screen, and would like to lower it even more, to save some battery
Can anyone help me find that topic?
Thanks,
and happy new year!
Regards Rasmus
Denmark
The SAMOLED-display is the "problem". The brightness decreases rather fast and they have a tendency to burn in. Besides that all of them are different. This was best seen when people found out about the yellow-side-problem. Some had, some didn't, some had more, done had less.

but as far as I understand Rasmusvm, he said, that his screen (the old one) was the brighter one, that's why he's confused...
check if the display settings are consistent on two phones.. there are 3 options Movies, Standard and Dynamic. There is bit of difference between the settings.
But I can not think of any other software settings that may make difference in screen brightness... it's probably hardware thing
Yes its my screen that is more brither than the new sgs2.
It wasnt a little bit you barely would've noticed, there was a huge difference thats why I find it odd..
But Im still looking for that guide to change screen brightness
I finally found the topic I was looking for

Thanks all,
Happy new year
Sorry, I got that wrong and it's in fact strange....

[Q] Looking for older cm7 based ROMs

I have been searching and flashing over and over again to find a CM7 based ROM pre RingLock. My reasoning is the Lag in the CRT off animation, it absolutely drives me nuts, and yes i realize i can turn it off but even then there is a slite lag when locking. For some reason I recall Dorians RedPill hybred not being like this but i have reflashed it and it to has Ring Lock. However if someone can direct me in how i can speed up any current CM7 CRT off animations i do not have a problem doing it but i have asked and have not been helped. Thank you all in advance and I hope this does not lead to a mess. I can endure all the criticism and if this thread should have never been started i apologize.
Whats the ring lock you speak of?

The ring lock is a CM setting option. You can find it in CM setting lockscreen styles
That's what I thought but what does that have to do with screen off animation? Because you can change both. The ring lock and screen off.
I'm thinking you mean screen on animation

No i am actually talking about the CRT OFF animation and it doesn't make a difference if you don't even use the CM lock-screens you can use whatever I.E. MiLocker and the CRT OFF animation is still laggy. The only reason I am referring to the ring lock is because when this became an option along came the CRT OFF lag.
Oh ok. The ring lock was throwing me off. So its laggy when you press the wake/lock button and the CRT off animation. Is the animation slow or the time it takes to get the animation going from pressing the button?

The lag is when you press the wake/lock button the animation itself is slow but again if you are to turn of the CRT animation it actually still lags locking the phone. I have played around a bit and you can see a dramatic difference if you use a stock Blur ROM or even if you use a CM9 ROM. Although in the CM9 Roms i speed it up just a bit from 36 to 20. The thing that gets me is that you do not see this lag in my SGS with the CM7 rom it is nice and quick

Forgive me for asking what may be a stupid question, but... you're turning your phone off. Does it really matter if there's a slight "lag"? Are a few extra milliseconds really all that big a deal? Again, not snarking, just trying to understand.
In Cm7 Rc1 the CRT OFF ANIM is too slow but that was fixed in newest builds so i see it very cool now, no lag either..

Cool. I guess I never really thought about it, as the screen on/off animations are one of the first things I disable on those occasions where I have to do a "cold reflash" (I prefer speed and efficiency, thus I disable all of that "flash and glitz").
