[Q] Bootloop with Siyah 1.8.9 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Installed Siyah kernel on my S3 with german firmware ELL4. it all worked out good until i tried to set CPU to 1800Mhz. I definately did NOT check set on boot, nevertheless my s3 crashed and is now stuck in a bootloop.
Is there any possibility to remove the overclock without reflashing the whole firmware? thanks!

you can flash one of the steaks profiles from the thread (e.g. battery saver or something). it should reset all values. you can find the download, if I am not wrong, in the Siyah development or discussion thread.

tried it, unfortunately it did not help!

hm, try to flash a stock kernel (you can find it in perka's stash. Otherwise try to reflash the stock rom (dirty and with wipe).

aw im so stupid, stock kernel!
thanks mate, got it back!
Edit:Can i reinstall siyah after i installed stock or will it bootloop again?

ok so no bootloop on stock kernel, butif i flash siyah -> again bootloop.
so where is the cpu setting stored because it somehow still has to be there?
Edit: found it: /data/.siyah

Good to hear that it is working again . I guess the safest overclocking is to a max of 1.6ghz

[Q] Flashed Siyah Kernel on CM9 RC1

Hi, i just flashed the Siyah Kernel v1.3.7beta for SGS3 on my SGS2.
I was using the CyanogenMod 9 RC1.
Now i'm stuck at the logo screen, the one with the name of the cellphone and can't get into Recovery mode, but i can get into the Download Mode.
How can i get my phone working again?
Any help will be aprecciated.
How about flashing a kernel (which supports CM9) for the correct device?
reflash the original kernal included in the CM9 thread that should restore your phone.
I'm now downloading the Samsung Drivers to try flash the Siyah Kernel for the SGS2 through the ODIN, i was just afraid that doing this could get the situation worse.

Why did you think this would even remotely work? Would you actually try flashing a kernel meant for an SGS2 on an SGS?
Well, maybe you would...
I don't thinked that would work, but i haven't noticed it was for the SGS3 T_T
It was my fault, i need to pay more attention.
Flashed the right Siyah Kernel through the ODIN, phone working now
Thanks for all the help and sorry about my stupidity.
You know, i'm a noob (the video in the register form says that D

Safe to Downgrade/nandroid restore on XWLPO with siyah kernel?

As there is a lot of confusing post on the topic of the stock rom XWLPO, and my question is:
Is it safe to downgrade through odin/Nandroid restore the newest rom (XWLPO) with the Siyah kernel installed? As I don't want the Brick bug to kill my device.
...
MistahBungle said:
Yes. Brick is triggered by a flag in the kernel being on. Siyah doesn't have it.
Edit - As long as you don't wipe or whatever via CWM with a kernel which has that flag set to on, you should be fine.

[Q] S2 not booting. Stuck at start up whenever I want to boot to stock rom

Hi Guys
I just change my kernel from siyah to dorimanx kernel, and then I installed cyanogenmod 10.1 in the 2nd rom.
I made a mistake to install gapps for cm 10.1 in my stock rom (1st rom). After that whenever I want to boot to my 1st rom it just stucks.
I've tried to wipe cache and dalvik cache in my 1st rom but it still stucks at the Dorimanx start up.
My Phone is Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100
Kernel : Dorimanx v7.47
2nd Rom : cm-10.1-20130221-NIGHTLY-i9100
Please help me solve this problem. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
Flash your first rom again.

If that's what the instructions say that is what you do .
It is the instructions is it that you flash a Zip through CWM recovery .
You really need to read the thread again .

That is correct. After you have booted back into your ROM, I'd suggest you installed STweaks from Play Store.
Otherwise, read both the development thread and the Q&A thread.
Happy flashing!

Check my profile, and look for my latest post in the MIUI polimorph thread, there's a comment to the ROM and to battery life.

Thanks! I just want to stick with PA 3.15 a while and see how this kernel does with it. Regarding your results, you do it with maximum usage on data/wireless and i wonder how much time you spend on the 'on screen'?

I currently run Siyah 1.8.9 with CM 10.1 nightly (20130218), and I've tried to flash Siyah 1.9.1 with both Odin (PC) and through CM recovery. Both ways end up with a black screen after the Siyah logo. I've wiped cache and dalvik as well and fixed permissions. I'm not sure what the problem is. Am I missing something in stweaks setup?
thanks in advance.

I actually find Devil kernel (built from perseus sources) much better for battery saving on paranoid android. Its still in its infancy though. Feels faster too

[Q] Installed wrong kernel

As the title says, I installed the wrong kernel when trying to root my phone... and now my phone wont boot
unfortunatly I don't know which kernel version I originally had so I'm a little worried that I'll have to spend all night trying every possible kernel version until it boots...
Can anyone suggest an easier way? is there a universal kernel that will get me at least to the menu section?
thanks for looking guys
Can you boot into Download mode? If so, which Android version are you on right now?
Yeah I can boot into download mode and I'm running version 4.1.2
I'm downloading I9100XWLSD_I9100MOBLSC_MOB.zip which I think is the original ROM and I'm hoping it comes with the original kernel as well...
I should just flash them both with odin right?
EDIT: download finished and I'm a little confused, there's 2 files within it
I9100XWLSD_I9100MOBLSC_I9100BULS1_HOME.tar.md5 and SS_DL.dll
I really have no idea what to do with these... do I remove the .md5 extension and unzip the .tar? help :S

If you're interested in a little tinkering, you could try flashing Siyah v6 beta 5 kernel via odin, and see if your phone boots up. Siyah v6 supports JB 4.1.2, and it will replace your current kernel. So, theoretically, your phone should boot back up.
Maybe it was already clear, but just flash the Siyah kernel first, before you try flashing a whole rom. Flashing Siyah might solve the whole problem, and you will have root access afterwards.

Yeah that's what I did Donnie and it worked a charm, thanks to both you and immortalneo. :highfive:
Just to confirm I can go ahead and install any rom now without fear of the "superbrick" bug? or would I still need to source an insecure kernel first?
Thanks again, it's a load off my mind

No problem, good for you.
This brickbug can only appear in stock 4.0.4 recovery, so you are safe.
You can try to flash other kernels (.zip files) as well through CWM. But pay attention that you search for the right ones, that are made for your device and your Android version.
