Sooo this just happened like 30 mins ago, Ive had my optimus g from att since the day it was released and have not rooted or flashed anything to it. It is completly stock. But just 30 mins ago, I turned on my phone, showing the lockscreen, the phone starts registering random erratic touches on the bottom left side of the touch screen when I havnt even laid a finger on the screen and hasnt stopped. Ive rebooted 3 times, let it sit for minutes and everytime I wake the phone up, the erratic touches are still there, on the same place, bottom left side of touch screen. Because it registers touches there even when I dont touch it, I cant to anything on my phone. If it unlocks, it just touches wutever is on the bottom left and i am unable to do anything else. When im on a phone call, it keeps on touching speaker which make it unable to talk to someone because it goes in and out of speaker mode erratically.
I usually use a charger from my motorola phone. I have now plugged it into the stock lg charger and is still doing those erratic touches. anyone else experience this?? anyone have any idea how to fix this?? any information would help, thanks!!
It happens. Theories range from voltage issues to aliens.

This happens to me all the time when the screen has a smudge on it. Just clean your screen!

I had them to... even can't play games, when charge phone screen was bloked by many toches! Than I flashed to SnowJB 4.1.2 much much better, toches hapends some times, but never when on charge.
I've only had this happen with chargers. Not with this phone though. Third party iPhone chargers would sometimes do it to the iPhone, as well as a blackberry charger with my HTC. I use my HTC's charging cable and adapter with this phone, and I don't have any problems. Just try a different charger. Or at least a different usb block or port if possible.

Ok so I'm at week 3 with this thing and yesterday I noticed that my screen had a dead spot on it. What I mean by that is that there was an unresponsive section on the screen. I had experienced this before on my E4G. End result was sprint replaced the phone. By last night the spot responded again but a new location was affected by this problem.
Also the last few days I've had issues with the phone just "running away". I will get backed out of an app automaticlly then multiple selections are made as the phone flies through different screens on its own. While this is happening I do feel a haptic response to this phantom finger making all these selections. When I touch the screen myself there is no response to my touch. Screen shutdown stops the action and allows me to restart the phone after I get the screen back on.
Need to know if anyone else is or has experienced this. I've only got a few days left on my 30 for return without having to pay for another phone.
Also, I have not rooted this device or used any mods.

I haven't had the issue where the phone is whipping through different screens on its own, but I have had a dead spot in one particular area a few times. It doesnt always happen, and I can't really force it to repeat. It is totally random when it happens, but it is that same spit every time it does happen. A factory reset seemed to help, but it still happens once in a while. When it happens, I change to a different screen, then go right.back to the screen with the 'dead spot' and it is no longer dead/unresponsive. Very odd.
I would try a factory reset, then of the problem persists I'd probably take it to Sprint. I have a couple days left and am pondering exchanging mine for a new one as well.

Did you have anything plugged into the headset jack? Only time I've experienced a runaway phone going crazy was when I had mine plugged into an amp via the headphone jack. All sorts of crazy control signals go through there.

my friend had this happen to her evo shift a couple times. It occured after she upgraded to gingerbread. I beleive she hard reset it and it went away
Anyone else getting this? Seems to be only the top half of the screen it does this randomly. Takes a reboot to fix it. I am rooted and no matter the ROM tgis happens 2-3 times a week

Sounds like a problem. I would definitely bring the phone in to be checked out.

Happened to me once with my first one, and twice with my second. Not enough times to really make me care.
i've experienced unresponsive issues
So i've experienced the screen randomly becoming unresponsive. So i know its lot locked because i've been in phone calls when it happened, or i can see animations working, or maybe a download bar progressing and then the screen will do nothing at all. I can shut the screen off and back on but then not be able to unlock it. But then i've had the same happen, but i would then be able to unlock the phone only for nothing beyond that to respond. This does eventually go away/stop, Its odd as it makes me think its the screen at times, then software at times (sometimes i cannot hold the power to restart/power down).
i have a similar problem where my lower part of the screen becomes unresponsive randomly at times once a day and then goes away after reboot . im not rooted
Sometimes (about half the time now) when i try to unlock my screen the touch won't work. Some of these times (what was just occurring at first) it will unlock and then the screen will "jitter" and select random things while not responding to my touch, other times it just wont respond or do anything. Originally i thought that this was just a problem with the stock rom but i have boot strapped and flashed joker's new rom and it's still having the problem. Should i be contacting Motorola to gave them replace my phone?
Other info:
I have in pocket deselected.
RUNNING 198_7
Using widget locker, but i think it happens with out it
Launcher pro
Thanks for the help!
Edit:
So I figured out that the top left of my screen isn't level with the rest. When the problem starts to happen I turn off the screen, compress the top left corner and the problem is gone for half a day to a day. So... that's cool... at least it is still under warranty.
I found the it happened to my phone ALOT when connected via USB to the computer and after I cleaned the screen off with glass cleaner when I ran the multi-touch test for the 8-point touchmod.

I've seen it happen on my hero with bad usb cords but this is happening when not plugged in. I've also never used glass cleaner on it or the multi-touch test on the photon.

So I was using my phone and just set it down and it started freaking out and going into things before the screen even shut off. Should I check out the multi-touch thing to just see where my touch points are or can I do some type of calibration?

I haven't ever put 8 point touch on my phone. I could try to flash it though and see if that does anything.

I would up with a similar issue on my Evo, and I wound up having to get a new one. Not sure if the Photon is gonna be the same, but that was how my phone was sadly. Let us know if the eight point touch helps or not.
So everything looks fine on the multi-touch but i cant get the program up while my screen is freakin out so it kinda defeats the purpose. Jokers skinny 4g doesn't have 8 touch point mod correct?

No not that I know of.

So I got the multi up while it was freakin out. There was a point toward the top of the screen (the edge of the touch "disc" was touching the edge of the screen) that stayed where it was but just jittered left to right. The really weird part is that my second touch point could not go above it. This has to be a manufacturer flaw as far as I'm concerned so when I have time I'm going to call Motorola.

I would agree as I've seen something similar with my Heroc. The problem is it happens all the time when it's unplugged... the micro USB could be haunted with an evil ghost charger... I'm not sure what the exercisium protcol is for that.

So I've into this issue lately where at the end of a call the touchscreen will become unresponsive. I basically have to wait for the other person to hang up and then the call to disconnect. Is there a way to force the phone to hang up without the touchscreen working? Or is there a reason why this is happening?
I've been experiencing the same thing. I switched from SOS to CM9 and that did the trick. I am just assuming that it was the launcher but not sure. What is your setup?

Finally!
I've been asking this same question over and over and no one seems to have the answer, it happens with a lot of GB phones. I'm running a ice cream rom and its still doing it, maybe when the screen starts going nuts bcz of facial moisture, who the f knows. But I hate it. Usually when people nowaways always want me to hang up 1st. Weird but true.
Mine's done this for awhile. Sometimes it happens in the middle of texting... But it has never happened while tapping away on FPSE or other video game emulators... Very odd.
I don't have this problem with my evo. However in my gs2 it was due to a proximity sensor. It just had some stuff over the sensor. After It was cleaned it worked as normal

Dont have anything special going on, on the phone, not using a custom rom or anything. I am using a Zagg screen protector but this issue is recent as of a few months ago and pretty sporadic.
This happens to me sometimes or also when texting th message thread scrolls to the top?? All I do is lock the screen then unlock and it works fine

Are you using any lockscreen app's?
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\
It's from the skin moisture that's left on the screen after you have finished speaking(especially if you speak for a long time). This issue also appears when it's raining on your phone(not heavy rain, just some drops will make it go crazy).I have tested it and after I have cleaned it with my shirts everything was normal.
This is the reason why it doesn't happen while playing/browsing or other stuff(cuz the screen is not wet).
This is the reason why I usually try to keep the phone a little far from the ear.Especially in hotter seasons.
I've had this issue on my 3D as well, I have a feeling it has something to do with the proximity sensor, but I don't feel like opening the phone up now.
then use bluetooth and you won't have this issue.
The roommate's Photon she gave to her son as a gaming device. So of course I put a boatload of games on it for him. He played it steady for almost 2 weeks straight and almost all of his waking hours. One night I put it on the charger. Screen would not light up. Left it on the charger over night, still nothing the screen doesn't light up at all, but the bottom buttons do. Would that mean the screen is burnt out?

Wellp. Just some basic troubleshooting before id go as far as saying the screen is burnt out. Do the buttons provided any vibration feedback? Does the screen? Do you see a green charging light by the earpiece? Have you pulled the battery? Have you tried pulling the battery, plugging it in, and then putting the battery back in so it charges only?

Yeah, have done that with the battery, numerous times and various ways. The lights on the bottom come on, when the power button is pressed but they do not vibrate. Screen doesn't come on. Seen small red light, seen a white light and have only seen a green light for a moment when it's plugged into computer, but not the wall charger. Oddly enough the computer picked it up and opened it's internal folder.

I know he said he dropped it with the kickstand out a couple of times, perhaps some internal damage?

So, lets get this straight really quick.
[√] Your lights work
[√] Your phone is recognized
[ ] You have Feedback on touch
Well, sounds to me(i dont repair phone hardware very often) that the cable inside the phone that connects the screen to the board, could have been severed/pinched or completely disconnected. I would say shake it gently to listen for rattles, but you will hear a few if the photon has some age to it, thats normal.
If you have the tools, and at this point have not much to lose, then your best bet would be to crack open the phone(not literally of course)
Seeing how it sounds to me the phone is free and clear aside from the screen, this could do more harm then good, the cables inside the phone sever very easily.
Id look up on google to see if maybe you are able to find a toolkit for repairing smart phones, and also a schematic of the phone(not likely to find one unless you work in an authorized mobile repairphone center)

Oh one last thing to try before cracking open the phone. When you hit the power button and the lights come on. Try touching your finger along the lower left side of the screen(where the lockscreen slider is) and check for any feedback.

Awesome. Best of luck with the repairs. hopefully all it is is a disconnected cable. Parts aren't to expensive for the Photon, and ebay will be your best friend if you run into anything else. If you need anything else, shoot me a pm or reply here. I tend to roam the forums when im not busy with work, my car, or otherwise.
