Hi guys, i'm MICHEL and i from Brasil!
I want to make a upgrade in 2.2 android of the Gtablet, cause it not works anymore perfectly (for example: google play is gone, i can't install it whatever happens) . I read here that i can to make a upgrade to honey comb or honey something, i guess, but i need make a Clock Work Recovery and update first in my tablet. So this is my F"[email protected]$#!# problem, cause the sequence: copy the ‘recovery’ folder as well as the ‘update.zip’ file to the INTERNAL memory of your tablet and turn your tablet off and reboot it into stock recovery by pressing the ‘Power’ button while keeping the ‘Volume Up’ button pressed not WORKS. Nothing happens, the tablet freeze in a first screen, with the up left popup that say "RECOVERY KEY DETECTED" all day long.... Please Help me or i'll really throw my "GdisgustingTablet" in a trash...

You have installed the wrong CWM for your current bootloader version.
Just ship it to my home..

I picked up one of the G-Tablet's when they went on sale last week for $279. I have a little experience rooting Android devices as I use a rooted Nook Color daily for surfing, email and games.
I followed the instructions located on the Cyanogenmod forum here: Installation Instructions
I downloaded the Clockwork file, unzipped it and copied it to the internal memory. When I try to reboot by holding down the power button and the volume up button and letting go when I see the Viewsonic logo, I never see the "recovery mode" text. If I continue to hold the power button and the volume button the unit turns off.
Since the above instructions clearly state to put the files on the internal memory of the device, that's what I did. I know because I didn't have an SD card inserted at first.
When I couldn't get into recovery mode I inserted an SD card, formatted it and copied the files (the recovery folder + the update.zip) onto it by inserting it into the memory card slot on my laptop. Then I tried to reboot into recovery mode and had the same results ... If I let go of the power and volume-up buttons, it booted normally. If I held those buttons the unit powered off.
What am I doing wrong?
UPDATE: I also tried it with both of the CW versions (internal & MicroSD) located on XDA with the same results...
Many thanks!
Doug
Two things...
1) Hold the Volume Up key until you see the words "Recovery Key Detected" in the upper left corner of the screen while the VS Birds logo is on the screen.
2) Make sure it's the Volume Up. If your screen is going black then it's likely that your holding Volume Down and going into APX mode.

Thanks for your reply....
I'm definitely holding the volume up... And the screen goes black...
I tried holding the power and volume up continuously.... And then tried releasing the power button when the birds appeared while continuing to hold down the volume up button ... In both cases I get a black screen after about 3-4 seconds.
I'm probably missing something obvious/simple...
CORRECTION... I'm an idiot -- I was holding the volume down button. Yep, I feel stupid.
Thanks,
Doug
You're not an idiot, you're inexperienced ;-)
I resolved this probem - I was in fact holding the volume button down instead of up .... The tablet orientation was different than I originally thought. Thanks to those who replied with helpful info!

haaha the first post I read I exactly know you press the down volume.
So I have a similar but different problem I was hoping someone can help with. I also just recently purchased a G tablet.Read all the instructions copied over the 2 clockwork mod files to the root folder of SDcard 1, rebooted pressing the +volume. So the notes in the top left. It shows me a picture of a box unpacking like its going to do something. Screen goes black, I see birds again and it boots into the android os.
I have tried it several times, including never letting go of the +volume ever and it just continues to reboot.
I have not put on any mods yet.
Thanks
So I figured out that i did not have clockwork mod in my SDCARD root area, how do i get it there? When I try to copy and paste it from my download area it says paste failed. Im new at messing with tablets. thanks for your help in advance.

Any ideas?

I have the same exact problem. the box comes up for like 2 seconds and restarts.
Good Afternoon All,
I'm a complete gtab noob for starters. Anyway, I am attempting to install ClockworkMod v8 following the directions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245 but cannot seem to get it to install. I have transferred the files with no problem but after powering off, then "Up Volume/Power On", the screen just remains with the "3 Birds" and -Recovery Key Detected- and -Booting recovery kernel image- messages appearing.
I let it sit for a while the first time, then powered off. I can then power on and get the stock screens with no problem and the tablet seems to work fine. Then I power off and use the "Volume Up/Power On" routine and I just end up getting stuck again.
I have searched around a bit on these terrific forums but just can't seem to find the solution that fits this exact problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance........

I see quite a few views but unfortunately no replies. Can I safely just delete the files from the root directory of the gtab and place them on an external sdcard and try again or will deleting the files from the root cause another problem?
Thanks to all who have read about my issue. Hopefully we can come up with a solution.

Nearly the same here but once mine shows "recovery key detected", it reboots again and starts normally.
I can get it to boot normally by powering it down and powering it back up. I just can't get ClockworkMod to install no matter how many times I do the "Volume Up + Power Button" routine.
As a result, I am limited as to what I can do with the gtab.....
im having the same problem :/ i really wish i knew why too...i tried it so many times but it gets stuck at booting recovery kernel image
Install clockword
Same problem here it's install, but after the second reboot I can't the clockword menu it's reboot normally
You guys may have 1.2 bootloader. I do not think CWM v8 works with that bootloader. Look around for how to fix your recovery.
I just received my g tablet today (w/bootloader 1.2) and I am having the same problem as the OP. After installing CWM it will boot up normally, but when I try to hold the volume up and power keys to go into recovery it just stalls at the initial 3 birds screen.
I'm a noob and not sure what my options are to get a custom MOD on this thing. Any help appreciated.
Good god. Every thread these days have been talking about 1.1 and 1.2 compatibility. If you have 1.1 use cwm v8. If you have 1.2 use cmw 3028. In addition read second post by moi in the following thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1120387
At this point you need to nvflash the appropriate cmw. Go to the following thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030042
I have exactly the same problem it sticks at the same place
Guys, you are using the wrong CWM version. Visit my website and use the right version. V8 only works with 1.1 bootloader. You have 1.2. In my website, look at option C. It shows you how to nvflash the right CWM file.

HI Everyone,
So here's what I did.
I installed clockworkmod recovery using rom manager (after unlocking and rooting) and then installed the touch recovery using the blob method.
then i booted into cwm touch recovery and was fiddling around when i touched "key test" in the advanced menu.
I got a message that debugging mode is on or something like that and 'press "back" to exit debugging mode"
It shows me a number based on what key I press or which direction i swipe etc. but i cant go "back" which means i'm stuck here!
now in my previous device (x10 mini pro) i just used to yank the battery out in case of screw ups like this. but i obviously cant do that in my prime. and i dont want to wait till the battery runs out.. prime has a gigantic battery it could be a full day till that happens!
Please...somebody... help!
EDIT: NVM Held power button +vol_down for a few seconds and it rebooted
Thank you so much. I thought I was going to have to wait for the battery to die.

Just saying.. you should really install twrp instead of cwm... it will burn you at some point.... if you dont want to go the nvflash route with the modded bootloader.. message me cause I do have an older version that doesn't require it....

Hi guys,
Late last year i sold my GS2 to a guy at work. Rooted and with a custom ROM installed (Cognition V1.5.1 - yes i know its old but its not my phone )
I've attempted to install RC1 for CM9 this morning however, I'm falling at the first hurdle. I've booted into Clockwork recovery (4.0.0.2). The menu buttons work fine i.e, up/down and power as enter but when i select anything it goes to a black screen with the ROM Manager logo on it (the gog and the hat) - but no options.
Do i need to install a newer version of Clockwork on the device? If i do whats the best way to do it? Do i use ROM Manager to update it as i cant access any of the menus in recovery (other than the top menu)
I've not seen this problem before as normally people are kept in boot loops or cant get passed a splash screen.
EDIT - i've just managed to get the phone to boot and its now running as normal. I'm just concerned that if i go back into recovery i might not get it back up again.
Many thanks

You're pressing the wrong button lol... use the power button to confirm and the volume buttons to move up and down. The home button does nothing.

I've got an MSI Windpad Enjoy 10" Plus (http://www.msi.com/product/windpad/Enjoy-10-Plus.html) and I tried to flash it this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540616).
The rom is for MSI Windpad Enjoy 10", while mine is called Enjoy 10" Plus. So GG, I think I got owned. So retarded you don't even have to tell me.
Now whenever I try to turn on the tablet, it would simply vibrate, show the logo and then turns off. PC doesn't detect it.
However, I tried holding Power button + Reset button together, the PC detects it, but it's unknown and it can't identify it (even though I have MSI's drivers installed and all).
...Any ideas on how to overcome it?
I'm going to sleep now, and will check tomorrow. Thanks in advance.
[UPDATE] 2/22/2013 11:00pm gmt
I'm able to boot it only if I have it plugged in. I can only use Power + Volume controllers + Reset buttons. I can enter Recovery Mode but I cannot confirm/click on any selection.
Tablet does not get recognized by the computer in "Flashing Mode".
I forced to install the driver for the "Flashing mode" when the tablet is in recovery mode but programs like MSIFlashtool, RKBatchTool, RKAdnroid. (not sure if i correcly used the last 2... but whatever)

This is not Samsung or a phone. Read what you are told
If you have a splash screen, you are not bricked. Does adb recognise your tablet? Can you access any recovery/download mode?

ADB doesn't recognize it. I tried holding Power + Reset button and did 'adb devices' on Ubuntu and it didn't show anything. On Windows, if I held these 2 buttons, it would show an unknown device in Device Manager. (Mind you, I don't have the Android SDK on Windows, just Linux.)
I can't access any recovery/download mode. Any combination of buttons (Power+VolDown, Power+VolUp/VolDown, Power+VolUP, Power+Home, Power+Back, Power+Settings) would do nothing.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This what it does when I press Power + Reset Button with a needle. It boots up, splash screen, and stays on black screen (Btw, in this stage, it's Unknown Device in Windows Manager).Once I let go of Reset or Power button, it shuts down.
Turning it on without holding Reset, it would show splash screen, black screen and turns off in about 2 seconds.
Bump.
I've tried playing with it for some time. I can't get it to stay working without pressing power+reset buttons, it always shuts off...
Go to the device website, and download section, get the latest firmware and forget to download the flash driver.
Follow the steps that in firmware folder after unzip it, and you'll get your tablet on

... I was trying all the time to get it work on the PC without plugging the charger. Anyways~
(Tablet's turned off), I plugged charger, I plugged USB, I turned on the tablet and viola it actually worked and booted into OS. However, no buttons work AT ALL, and touch input doesn't work as well.
I tried to get into Recovery Mode and it worked, but I can go up/down using VolUp/VolDow buttons but I cannot click on any thing because the home button don't work nor any other.
Only Power + VolUp + VolDown + Reset buttons work... What to do now?
TL;DR I want to click on 'Update from SD Card' from the Android Recovery but I couldn't get the 'home' button to click enter on the selection. So what's the solution?
bump.
updates:
I tried to place the firmware from the official website as update.img on an SD Card and placed it in the tablet and went into the recovery mode and selected the 'update from sd card' but i couldn't click it. I tried to tap power, home, search, settings and back and nothing worked.
what I've got up until now:
I can boot into the ROM / RecoveryMod as long as I have the charger plugged in the tablet.
For Ubuntu, when I use the command $ tail -f /var/log/syslog and plug in my tablet, it shows this log http://pastebin.com/pBpBUA2Q (it identifies the tablet) [note, the tablet is booted into the ROM]
Also, if I'm in the recovery mode and I plug in the tablet, it would enumerate the USB... ~,~

Hello,
I know it has been long since this thread stopped.
I'm currently in his shoes and for the life of me cannot find anything on the web to help me solve my problem.
My MSI Enjoy 10" Plus was flashed with the wrong MSI Enjoy 10" update. Now the tablet only turns on when in "Recovery Mode", but selecting in that mode is not possible using 10" Plus' buttons. Is there anyone from you good people that can help? Please? Thanks.
