Is there a way to use Samsungs multi window app on an AOSP ROM?
yes.
but it would involve you creating the app.
probably couldnt call it multiwindow...call it dualview.
No, and won't happen unfortunately.

There is an app called cornerstone multitasking which works simular to multi Window. But it's a tablet app and is only available as a feature that would have to be baked into a rom. Idk if anyone has started using this mod or if it even works for jb. But it appears to have been designed only for 7 and 10 inch tablets. It would look crammed for four or note 2.

Cornerstone has pretty much been abandoned because of bugs. I really wish more would have been done with it so the bugs could've been worked out and I could get rid of touchwiz.
I'm sure other devs will come up with their own variants. And just a matter of time when Android will implement it. Maybe in Android 5 or 6.

It was abandoned because Google told CM that they couldn't implement it into CM.

Well that's a shame. I'm glad I didn't really use Multi-window enough to find a specific niche for it to matter, since I've moved on to AOSP. There was only a few things holding me back on TouchWiz, and that was one of them. But honestly, there's very few times where it actually is worth using.
It'd still be nice to be an option though. Wonder what the conflict is.

I never heard that, never even seen a version of CM with it in it (not saying there wasn't one) all the other roms I did see and use that had cornerstone weren't supported very long because of the bugs (the reason the devs gave for not continuing to release with cornerstone)

Steve Kondik posted cornerstone pics for CM 10.1 it was going to be implemented but CM was threatened by Google saying they would be banned from the Android Market. If you want to read the full thing it's in the comments of that post. https://plus.google.com/100275307499530023476/posts/ViCME1bb8F6

Lol.
I read the actual post on Cyanogen's G+ page, not this summary.
He even said himself that devices running CM9 "should" be inline for CM10. Should as in not being a sure thing. Not being a sure thing as in source for Jelly Bean needs to be analyzed to actually confirm.
Not to mention Project Butter needs to be merged with the build.
Since we don’t have source, we obviously can’t give a 100% analysis. What we do anticipate refactoring is Trebuchet and the LockScreen enhancements, along with the Theme Engine.
In addition, we expect to have to hand merge (versus a more automated method) the updated Framework code. This isn’t because of massive changes, but from what we’ve heard, the Framework code has been split into multiple projects to better the PDK (Platform Development Kit). Should be doable in a weekend’s amount of time.

Basically from what I can tell you give up SPen specific apps, like you say, anything built against the Samsung SPen SDK.
That said, Papyrus works JUST LIKE it did before. Pressure, side button, ignore fingers, etc... I have it set so side button is erase, fingers are ignored, and I can draw away, click the button to erase, my fingers won't accidentally draw, etc.
So while there might be an SPen App market that's growing a bit, the SPen's functions can be well supported without it.
Yup Papyrus works good..also i think MyStory works as well.

Is there a pure AOSP rom out there or nearly pure made to work with the DNA?
Short answer: Nope
Long answer: You are more than welcome to look through the Development thread. There are only a dozen or so Roms so it shouldn't take you too long
Longer answer: CM10.1 is in the works but I'm not sure its at daily driver status yet.

Yep. It's almost there. As soon as the camera is working I would consider it dd status
Sent from my ViperDNA using Tapatalk 2
I've been using CM 10.1 for my dd for a little over a week and have had no issues other than the lack of camera and an easily removed issue with GPS.
I'm no developer, but from my experience with the LG Spectrum, once CM has all of the hardware functioning, then AOSP and AOKP are not terribly difficult. In the case of the spectrum, a fully functional pacman ROM was released a few months after CM was completed.
Question of my own. What exactly needs to be done to gain official support for CM? I would love to be able to flash nightlies like on my nexus 7.

I've been using it as dd off and on. It's good enough for me to use it a few days a week for now. I really hope development picks up after cm10 is ready. I feel like not enough developers have this phone for there to be a lot of support. Idk if devs actually need the phone to make ROMs for it though.
Regardless, Chad, cr, fly, and the other devs working on cm have done a spectacular job. If we have a cm ROM, aokp, and pa I will be ecstatic.

i don't want all the crap themeing and "mods" that come with CM, I just want pure android, if I want to add something ill do it myself.
I've contemplated back and forth for some time whether I want to build AOSP for the DNA. The camera really has been a PITA for another device I've been working on; It shouldn't be as camera works on CM10.1. However, it would suck to put all that work into it for the camera to be the hold up (although, I don't think it will be as difficult since its 8mp and the one I have somewhat working is 13mp).
The main issue is that if I build AOSP (well technically I have already built it), I would prefer to stick to google's base code as much as possible without bringing in CAF/CM code to achieve goals. Doing this, makes things a bit more difficult.
I suppose it's also a bit of whether it is worth the effort and if people really want it as well.

CM, AOSP ... it's all gravy.. they'll get it.. all of it.. in time.. They have made enormous stride with CM 10.1 it's almost unbelievable what they've accomplished.. DD for me.. because from here on out, it's all fixes and tweaks.. I wouldn't mind a pure Vanilla AOSP rom, but these things take time.. We'll get there.. Not just yet.. but I'm sure things are cooking now that many of the issues have been fixed..
Hey everyone, I'm new here so be gentle. As the title suggests, I am wondering what the physical limitations are that are keeping all the TW features (like air view and gestures) from being implemented in AOSP based roms? I love the "pure" android feel but I also love these features. Thanks for any answers you guys can give.
Tw features require tw framework to work and same thing around with aosp features (halo) to tw, I'm pretty sure someone can even try implementing it but chances are closer to almost impossible as it requires a lot of heavy coding.

The biggest thing is the closed sourced drivers, libs, and jar files on top of the built in framewroks. AOSP stands for open source so you can see where to conflict would be.

Nope that's only for TW no way of easily porting that over and since cm is for many different devices... Let's just say it would be a massive nuclear pain in the ass to even attempt to port it over... Hi everyone,
I wonder if there any plans to support ATT version of Galaxy Note ?
all recent updates are minor and I don't have any hope that CM10.2 (not even mentioning CM11) will be ported to it which is kind of sad.
I understand that there are some issues with stability and drivers. Does that mean I need to get other hardware to continue using CM ?
Due to all those problems I switched back to stock image and not happy with it, but it is damn stable ((

so what i am reading here is you have 6 posts. i understand that you cannot post in development yet, but that does not slow you from reading.
i am not a technical brainchild and lack the ability to understand some of the terminology, so you will have to give me a little leeway.
development may have appeared to have slowed, but take into consideration the age of our device and the rate manufacturers are producing devices. we may not ever get another official upgrade for our Note, but my phone has ran better in the last few months than previous 8 months. there are some brilliant folks out there working selflessly for us. you may not find much in the straight CM development department, but since release of 10.2/ 4.3 roms, it is much more stable than 4.2 ever was. it runs smooth and effortless with none of the random reboots which plagued 4.2.
now we have quickly bumped to the 4.4 development which is still in its infancy. give it time. there are 2 Alpha/Preview releases right now, with at least another in the works that i know of. my guess is someone will have a Beta or full release by the end of the week at the rate these guys go. cant hold me to it as i am just a recipient who benefits from their deeds. that's just my guess from what i see as far as their work pace.
so excuse me now, i have to put some Kit Kat 4.4 on my phone, which has only been approval to run official 4.1.2 JB.
i am sure this is going to prove to be a good conversation starter here. thank you

I'm sure there are brilliant people in CM team and they are doing amazing job, this is doubtless.
This is the only reason I'm trying to get back to CM world and get any word on further development.
My only source of information on the releases are:

https://github.com/CyanogenMod/hudson/blob/master/cm-build-targets
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=quincyatt&type=
and xda of course
First three show very little progress on this particular device. I'm not complaining, but just trying to understand current state of I717 support.
In comparison with I717 twin - N9000, we get less updates.
I saw 10.2 builds in XDA forum threads, but I consider them as unofficial builds, and I know nothing about them, how well they are performing, etc. I will try them for sure, thanks for pointing that out.
All my question is about is future support of this hardware, should I think about upgrade or just give up and use stock ...

as i said take the tour, take some roms for a test drive. i don't know what you consider your experience level is........
everything runs a bit different on everybodys phone. for example, the Carbon rom has lots of cool features, but it just doesn't seem to want to work on my phone. i just don't want you to label all roms on the basis of one. Hellybean runs great on my phone. there are some here that wont give a phone or rom time to settle in. they make so many tweaks and adjustments in a rapid amount of time, they don't know if there adjustments actually did anything.
so be patient......if its not compatible for your phone, you will probably know right away. if it works, give it some time. there are good and helpful people here. just try and help yourself first and read.
getting ready to slam some Kit Kat on my phone right now with Jaime's CM11 preview 4.
As cyanogenmod seems to have dropped us for 10.2, we are unlikely to see official CM11 support. Our hope for further development lies in unofficial builds from Jamie and Patch who have been kind enough to build from source and share their talents with us.
Normally, I would accept that, at some point, you have to stop beating a dead horse. It's unrealistic to expect a 2 year old device to be supported with the latest and greatest - especially in an environment like Android which seems to have such a quick cycle.
The alpha builds, however, have proven to be more stable on my device than anything 4.2 or 4.3. My question is whether or not we will see some important functionality (like TTS and video camera) restored on OUR device if it is not being supported by CM officially?

You have a good point, at least 4.4 will probably run better than any other 4.x before it

All 4.4 Roms right now are pretty much the same aosp 4.4, no rush on getting things rolling till things change and merge

So it would be better to get some of popular devices and use it, because "million flies can not be wrong" ?

More devices in hand means more users and devs, dunno why that's hard to understand

oh, no, don't get me wrong, I do understand that.
What I'm also trying to understand what would be a better strategy to have decent device with enough attention from developers...
There should be some balance here, since advanced devices are good in performance, but expensive and not widely used.

Personally, I'm loving the AOSP feel of 4.4 in a way that I have never really cared for it in Android versions prior. The way Google now is integrated into the GEL is how I would use Nova Launcher to setup previous versions.
With it's super stability, I am really praying that you give us something akin to your Nexus or Evervolv roms...Hell if we can just get working TTS and Video camera on top of what you've given us with your alpha, I'm done...............
.......until my next phone.

What are you talking about? What strategy? What balance?
Devs are also users. Almost all of the devs work on the devices that they own. We may not have the quantity of devs for other devices, but we definitely have quality devs. I also have GTab 2, and LG Optimus and Galaxy S2 LTE, which I manage for my family. Some have very active devs, some don't, but they all have good devs.
I don't know what you mean by "enough attention from developers", but we are getting plenty from our devs even if we don't deserve them. Whatever we are getting beyond the official 4.1.2 is all gravy. Jamie's CM11 preview is running awesome, and I haven't tried Patch's 4.4 rom, but I expect the same.
What more are you asking for?
