I just moved to okinawa Japan and am curious if I can transfer my verizon note 2 over to Au or DOCOMO here on the island. I am unlocked running one of the clean roms. I've looked at the network differences and it seems it could be possible but I don't have experience to say for sure. I know the note 2 is available some places here but I'm not sure if there are hardware or other differences that would make mine incompatible. Any help is appreciated.

Yeah it should be able to. Just need to find the right APN settings. That will be the hard part
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I believe this lists the APN settings for NTT
http://www.japanmobiletech.com/2011/04/docomo-access-point-names-apn.html
I couldn't find the other.
I'm hoping that the setting will be able to be set with their sim card. I just hope that I won't have to do a bunch of manual settings adjustments if it can work. I know that when I go into the store they are just going to sell me a new iphone5 on a plan like they do to every other military guy on this island.

That link I posted States that they do imei logging and the rate changes if you switch from a docomo branded device to something else.
Just fyi
if you root it (since you did) it should be able to work
IF NOT
put these on build Prop Editor
and you will be able to input your own APN addresses

If it's not released, how would somebody use that version...
LordRalh3, Other versions won't work on Verizon's network...

Again, how are they going to use a GSM device on Verizon? Verizon is a CDMA network primarily, with LTE being the only type of GSM service they have. Unless you have some magic radio dust, you need to a VZW device to use VZW's network.
Oh so trolling me means the cdma versions released dont apply? The n7100 and 7105 are not the only note 2s, i got it, if you havent something to add thats helpfull then dont post please.

So, you want to know who has tried the Note II on Verizon? Unless you are a device tester, no one has used the Note II on Verizon's network. Yes, we could go out and try a T-Mobile Note II, but I can't see anyone on VZW spending $650 for an unlocked international version when it won't work on VZW's network.
Maybe you should realize that you're posting in a VERIZON ONLY forum and asking people their opinion's on GSM devices that have a snowball's chance in hell of working on Verizon's network before you start complaining about responses you're getting.
I posted it in the note 2 general q&a before it was separated into different flavors by the mods into individual carrier models, and btw people unlock phones and try different networks all the time, and there are at least 3 models from south korea that could play nicely with Verizon with a little effort and was hoping someone had found a useful bit of info. So once again if you dont have something helpful to post please dont

You really have no idea how VZW's network works do you? If you can't get a Sprint LTE device to work on VZW, how do you think you're going to get an international version working? Just because it supports LTE doesn't mean it will work. If that was the case, why aren't people using AT&T or Sprint Note II's on VZW? Or one of the many other LTE capable phones out there that are available? The reason is because you can't. It won't work, and even if they did support the same protocols and frequencies, you would need to know someone that has access to backend VZW systems that would be willing to risk their job for you to even hope at getting it to work.

lol some people are just fools who will never understand the concept of how the networks really work out there. If it really worked, hell people would be going to one dealer to get it $50 cheaper like AT&T has, and then just using it with their unlimited data on Verizon.
You guys are morons, i am NOT TALKING ABOUT ONLY GSM i am also talking about the cdma korean versions, ever heard of cdma workshop? How bout unlocking? For being on xda you are kinda out of it. Ive gotten my answer thank you, two of these versions DO work according to pms iv gotten from people that live or travel to/from south korea where guess what they use CDMA. Only in the us do carriers stop you from using a boughten phone on another network.

Yeah, we're all idiots and have no idea what we're talking about. Care to tell me how they got the ESN into VZW's database? How are they authenticating and using the LTE network, or even using the CDMA network properly? Probably by doing stuff that is less than legal, or they know people that not many others do. And if it's so easy to do, don't you think that people would be importing the international versions frequently rather than getting bloated Verizon versions? Then again, we're all just idiots, so wtf would we know.
sprints version should be able to work on Verizon, they are both cdma+lte with global capabilities... I know they could since sprint and Verizon roam of each other just like AT&T and T-Mobile do and unlocked gsm phones work on AT&T and T-Mobile all you should have to do is unlock a sprint version

Sprint doesn't use the same LTE frequency, and you wouldn't be able to get the phone's ESN info in VZW's database. This is why I've been saying you have to get a VZW version to use on VZW.

To be a recognized dev you really are trolling pretty badly. The dude asked if anyone had gotten another Note2 to work on verizon. We are all very happy you understand the policy behind the scenes of getting the device onto the network. There are plenty of people who do have connections within Verizon that could possibly have set it up to make it happen. I'm sure you know all about chipsets and network bands so I'm sure you understand it is completely within the realm of the possible that it happened. Don't bust on the guy for asking a question.

Would you risk your job to put a friend's Note 2 from another carrier in the system just so they could use the network? I imagine there are some very heavy restrictions on adding new devices to the database, with pretty heavy consequences if you're just adding stuff for fun. Is it possible to make it happen? Yes, it is. Is it likely to happen? No, and I doubt if you did get someone to add the phone info, they wouldn't want you to go around posting about it everywhere.
Given the likelihood is next to zero for knowing someone with the access to do this, being able to buy a non-VZW phone with the proper radio frequencies that isn't a VZW specific device, and then getting said person to add said device to the network, I don't get why the thread was started to begin with. I know of people that have tried to get Sprint CDMA only devices on VZW's network, and even that is a venture in futility, so I can't imagine how you expect to get an LTE Note II from a non-US carrier to work.
Also, you people need to learn what trolling is, as I wouldn't consider any of my posts in this thread to be trolling. I'm stating facts as to why what the OP is asking is extremely unlikely and near impossible. Trolling rarely is factual. Maybe you could say I'm a troll if I came here posting "OMG, I'm using it on VZW's network right now and it's the best thing since sliced French Bread", but I'm not.
So it is possible
It was just a question (in the Q&A section no less) looking for like minded people to respond
Trolling is responding without addressing the topic or in this case answering the question, which was what you did.... repeatedly.
I'm only responding because I would expect much more in a response from a developer. Leave the negativity and the can't do attitude to someone else.

Did you follow the guide to unlocking your phone for use on other networks? If so did you add all the APN's for T-Mobile?
I highly doubt you will get LTE in T-Mobile unless you live in one of the 8 cities they're testing it out in which are:
Denver
Las Vegas
Kansas City
New Orleans
New York
San Diego
San Jose
Seattle
If you live in one of those cities then it is possible you could get LTE through T-Mobile if the VZW Note 2 has the correct radios that can work on T-Mobiles LTE bands.
My best advice is that you should post in the thread that has the instructions for unlocking for user on other networks. It depends on how you unlocked the phone to use it on other networks, what APN's you've added and if there are others that can/need to be added, and if your area has LTE or if it just has 3G or HSPA+.
Sorry for not being more helpful.

I am a little unsure if it would be ok to flash a VZW modem seeing as how that is a T-Mobile phone, that area is a littlr foggy to me. Really the best place to ask would be that thread, I am not trying to be rude at all. Just saying thats where the people who know the most about that check for questions. Kinda like you ask questions about roms in the specific rom thread.
Whenever you get an answer come back to this thread and update it, I have seen this question posted a few different times and have never seen the answer so if you would update it it would be very informative for me so maybe next time this pops up I can give a definite answer.

Thanks for clearing that up, at some point I got that turned around.
I would think that there is probably nothing you can really do in this situation..... There is a chance that flashing one of the new VZW radios and then resetting everything up for T-Mobile might make it better. I HIGHLY doubt it though.
The only other things I can thing that might help would be flashing a T-Mobile rom or T-Mobile radio instead of the VZW rom and radio. That could possibly brick your phone though or cause you to get absolutely no service whatsoever, I really wish that there was more info on this subject.
Whenever you get an answer from the other thread please either post it here or PM it to me so I will know next time how to help the people in your situation.

T-Mobile for me is every easy. What I did was first unlock it using CASUAL (thanks Adam) then I just flashed it with CleanRom ACE edition.
If I plan to stay with that network, I'd choose T-mobile as carrier and never had a problem with it. If you have WIFI issue, reflashing it with Verizon carrier will fix that also.

It depends on what bands your GSM provider uses and what bands the Note 2 has. In most cases people internationally are able to use it as a GSM phone and have good service.

i am going to be purchasing the s4 to upgrade fro my old nexus and will be travelling to greece for 2 weeks. I have read that i will need to call verizon to unlock my phone to make calls with a local sim card from that country. But i have also read that i will need to unlock the bootloader to receive data by changing the apn settings. Please confirm if that is correct. If so can i just unlock the bootloader without having a custom rom. I dont want to install any custom roms just unlock the bootloader and run stock rom. Is this possible and can someone direct to a link for instructions. Much appreciated.
You will not need to call Verizon because your phone is sim unlocked straight out of the box. Likewise, you will not need to unlock the bootloader-aside from the developer edition there has never been any such thing as an unlocked bootloader for the Verizon Galaxy S4.

I just wanted to bring some closure to my original question since no one really comments once they get the answer to their forum question. Immediately out of the box, this phone is indeed unlocked and once you place a foreign sim card into the phone,It works immediately. Once the correct apn numbers are added, you also get data and internet. This phone is really great.

You must enter the APN details manually - the phone isn't pre-configured with other carrier's APN information.
Once you've entered it, you can select the active APN from the list of entries that you've added.
If you have a Verizon SIM installed, APN editing is disabled. You'll need that non-VZ SIM if you're going to experiment.
this practice also works for trying to use a verizon GS4 on local GSM networks. Just doesnt apply to overseas so if you want to use this phone on tmobile you can do that.
Puerto Rico?
Sorry if this is not the right place for this, but does anyone know if I can use my phone in Puerto Rico?
I'm in Singapore now. It works great but their prepaid plans only support 3g; so it's petty show. The reps seem to know exactly how to program the phone and the APN info needed. $7 for 1gb and 7 days usage and the card costs $10 with a $10 credit.

I have for the past few years always bought the phones I wanted from craigslist, I would get an att phone and then root+ custom rom then use on straightalk by setting the APN.
Well when the note 2 came out I really wanted one but couldnt find one under $600 used, so I got on a friends verizon plan and paid $300 for my note 2.
Fast foward a year or so and now she is letting the phones get shut off due to an outstanding balance on it (always paid my part)
So my question is.... will this phone need unlocked to be able to use it on straight talk? Would a root and custom rom be all thats needed or do i need to have it unlocked? I still have my straight talk sim card.
This is my first time dealing with a verizon phone and a situation like this.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Sorry, your current phone might not be eligible for any plan on VZW since she is terminating for outstanding payment. It depends if they block your device from the network or not, go to a Verizon store with your device and explain the situation, I'm sure they would try to retain the business if it is at all possible.

You can use this phone on ATT and Tmobile and any of their MVNO's as well as on Pageplus, selectel and couple others.. So to answer your question NO you are not screwed you still have options..
This phone comes unlocked already no need to install custom rom. but you do need to change the APN's
just pull out the Verizon sim card and pop in the sim card you have and should work but you will have to change the apns for mms and data
