After my battery drained and my phone switched off, it won't start up anymore.
I tried to charge it, but even when plugged to the charger it shows no vital sign. Neither with a fully charged backup battery.
Also it won't be recognized by the computer. It simply never displays anything anymore.
I got all the new drivers and tried with different computers, no recognition whatsoever.
Has anyone had this problem before? Does someone know a solution to this?
Thanks in advance!

Looks like a dead brick, you can try it with a USB jig.

So.. I have googled the crap out of this problem and seen loads of issues raised, but nothing solved.
I am coming from a Dell Streak and grabbed me a galaxy s 2 from craigslist a couple months back.
It has been running fine and I have tried a few roms/kernels and a few days ago I got the following error:
When charged to 100%, I get the notification to unplug, when I do, it sticks. No big deal but even when the phone battery has dropped to around 80% it stays.
It does not go into MTP mode or think it is plugged in via USB. Although, before this problem originated, the phone continuously vibrated between charging and not, when not plugged in.
I have calibrated the battery, tried a mixture of roms/kernels and I am now on unrooted stock. The problem still occurs and sometimes it does not recognise a USB connection, like today.
Probably worth mentioning that when turning on (and not plugged in) the phone does not turn right on, just boots into the battery screen and flashes between the battery charging and the overheating symbol.
Anyone got any ideas?

Turn off the phone and put it on charging. Once it beeps that its fully charged, quickly unplug the battery for 5-10 minutes. Should work and 'recalibrate' your battery
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Thanks, giving a go now.
Do you need root to calibrate though? I am on stock firmware and not in front of a windows machine to use ODIN.

OK, charged to 100% and got the full notification.
Left battery out for 10 mins and whacked it back in.
Turned on and it went to the overheating sign again.
Booted into the samsung recovery and I can boot into android from there.
Battery says it is as 88, cannot calibrate as I do not have root atm.
Any ideas?

Get root and use the battery calibration tool from the market. The best idea so far. I suggest rooting with CF-Root, its fast and easy - its basically still your stock kernel but just with root.
If you really need the warranty or you'r scared of root you can install cf-root, calibrate the battery, then re-flash a stock kernel (unroot)

If i helped you, press thanks. Thanks.
Done and done.
Calibrated, even bought a new battery. Tried various other roms and appears to be an issue. Phone knows when USB is plugged in but does not seem to recognise the unplugging of the charger. And stays at 100% for a while before dropping down to like 80.
One thing to note is that this seemed to happen around the time of buying a dock for the samsung from Amazon, by Kidigi. I plugged the phone in to the dock without a USB cable connected to the dock and the dock LED lit up, making the phone think it was charging. Is this likely to have caused it/messed up the micro usb forever?
Thanks again guys!
well i think ive figured out what the problem was
Its due to overcharging or keeping the charger connected after battrey is full which has caused a hardware damage
im not sure if this is true but this is the closest explanation i can get the phone shows connected to charger even when diconnected only when i keep it connected for long time even after its battrey is full my usb connection has completely stopped working

well that the same problem with me when it shows connected to charger at 100% i restart it then the phone drops to ~80% battery although its 100% which makes the app battery monitor widget think i have a 1977mah battery while i have the standard 1650mah battery this must be the extra 20% which disappeared after the restart for me
I thought it may have been an overcharging problem, although no other phone I have owned has had this problem.
I let the battery charge all the way down (it stayed at 1% for about 3 hours) until it shut itself off. I left it on the side and it created a clicking noise, it was trying to turn the phone on as it knew the battery was in, even though it was depleted.
I plugged it in via USB to charge and it tried to turn on straight away. Shut it down and charged by plug until the 100% notification then turned on.
Still the same problem but one of my battery widgets warned that the battery was over voltage for a while before calming down.
If the phone cannot be off with the battery in, what could be causing that?

It has been known to be caused by a defective circuit board for the USB connector.
So, it needs a samsung return, I assume?
i have the same problem with overheating and usb plugged when there is nothing connected
i changed the usb port from the phone but it still having the problem!!!
i will try to put a new battery and see if it work and after post a reply
I am having a problem with my Galaxy S3 when plugged into USB. It wont recognize the USB connection via laptop or charge via laptop or Samsung charger. Tried three official Samsung cables and chargers, 2 computers, and still nothing. The only time it recognizes anything is when the phone is in Download Mode. In which I can restore firmware and everything else. However, no matter what firmware I put, it still will not recognized the USB or charge. If anybody has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
There are different drivers that need to be installed. As it recognizes the download mode seems like CDC driver is installed, but if you download kies, it should install all the necessary drivers automatically. Did you try it with a different computer? If this doesn't help then your last option is to factory reset.
Hope this helps

Downloaded Kies. Has all the correct drivers. Tried two different computers. Have two Galaxy S3's, swapped out batteries. Both batteries are good in one phone. The other phone just wont recognize USB or charge in any situation. Factory reset it 3 times. Cleared everything off the phone. Didnt change anything. Factory ROM no kernel hacks or anything. Cables are genuine Samsung that came with the phone. Used mine and my friend's cable for his S3. When you plug the phone in when the power is off, u can see the battery, but then the screen goes black and doesnt charged. Also we charged up both batteries fully using one good S3 proving both batteries are good. Im out of ideas..Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it!!

Well if you say, that you did a full wipe, just curious that after factory reset did you restored it from a backup or started new. I recommend start new. Even if this doesn't help than it definitely seems a hardware problem. Get it checked.
Just wanted to share. I had a Iphone 4s and suddenly it stopped charging through a wall charger and used to charge through a usb, after numerous restores I got it checked and there seems the problem.

Started brand new. Didnt restore from any backups or anything. Didnt root it at all. It seems as whatever the firmware that it uses for charging just stopped working...Im at a dead end...its funny because there isnt any topics online with a single similar symptom.

I have the exact same problem on my note 2, have been searching everywhere but cant seem to find an answer.
First of all hello xda, long time reader, first time poster.
I know it's been a long time since the last post, but instead of starting a new thread i suppose it's better to post here.
I got the same problem a few weeks ago and tried everything software-wise and still nothing. I noticed that when i turn my phone on i get a notification "USB connector connected" which leads me to believe that something is keeping the connector busy and unable to charge/connect exept when in d/l mode. Has anyone found a fix for this yet? I'd like to try and fix it myself before taking it in for repair.

I have exact same problem. Seemed to occur out of the blue. I took it off the car charger and everything appeared as normal until the next day I go to charge it with wall charger and no response, except for the grey battery image appearing for 2 seconds when and only when powered off and plugging in the charger. Tried many cables/chargers to no avail. There is also no response connecting to a PC, when the phone is on.
For the moment I can charge the battery(s) with an external charger and still use my phone.
I made a simple USB cable current monitor once to measure current consumption of portable devices. Just a 0.1ohm resistor in series with the USB V_BUS (+5V) pin. Since this fault occurred, the V_BUS pin current after plugging in the charger, starts off 250mA for few seconds while the grey battery image appears then the phone shuts down with a 5mA residual current. Clearly the battery is not being charged. Previous to the fault, V_BUS current during full charge is around 950mA. I'm sure its a hardware problem.

About a couple of weeks ago my battery started charging to over-voltage, nothing unusualy that I recall happend there. Anyway he started overcharging and keep showing that he is charging even after unplugged. He charges up to 4.2~ volt which is way over 3.7 wherehe should be.
Anyways I've tried to calibrate the battery so I rooted the phone but no luck. So I tried to move the files from the phone in case I'll have to give it back to a shop to fix it ( which I would prefer not to do) so I discovered the phone doesn't see the computer. It starts charging and in download mode they see each other perfect but in normal conditions no way.
I've tried to reinstall drivers and plug with different cables and different computers but no luck. Anything I can do that I haven't tried yet to make him see the computer?
Hello there,
yesterday i got my phone back as it should get repaired (which it wasnt as it was not a warranty case) and so i rooted it and reinstalled cm10. all went fine and everything worked as it should.
installed a few apps and sync was all good. no force close or errors in general. During the night I kept it connected to my notebook (in standby) so it gets charged.
Bad surprise: I woke up and it didn't react at all. Black screen. nothing happens when removing the battery putting it back in and plugging in the usb-cable. no touch lights or whatsoever. no recovery, no download mode. just nothing at all.
i do have a wobbly usb port on my phone but yesterday it charged just fine without any interruption. just data mode wont work perfectly (loses connection and connects again) actually it always charges fine. so i dont think it is because of the usb port.
so what shall i do? i didnt use the phone overnight, it wasnt connected in wifi. just idling and now it isnt responding anymore...
hope that somebody can help
cheers

Does anything happen when you charge it with the normal wall charger?
Any way to try with another battery... just to see if the phone is really bricked or maybe there is no juice left in the battery...
also clean out your USB port with a toothbrush.. I had a similar issue with USB connection.. cleaning it out resolved that...

thank you for your tips.
nothing happens with the normal wall charger. trying another battery will be possible tonight and i will report back.
did the cleaning. didnt change anything with not charging but maybe if the phone will boot with the other battery it might have helped ^^
i read the other bricked thread and that was quite disapointing. still have warranty on it so maybe i'll send it directly to samsung rather than amazon.
thanks anyway for your help.
just might be interesting for cm10 users. I mean I did absolutely nothing with it. or maybe it was nand failure. idk
I have never had this issue before so i'm coming for some help as i'm guessing it's something to do with CM. Last night i flashed cm-10.1.3-quincyatt with no problems at all. Everything was working flawlessly. Once i got my phone fully charged and most of my apps setup ect. I did a battery calibration, then used a drainer app to drain the battery completely as normal. plugged the charger back in and it charged to about 75-80% i picked my phone up a bit later to check messages and noticed it was not charging. I unplugged and replugged the charger cord with no success in getting the phone to charge. I've tried numerous cords, usb cables ect. Nothing will charge. It won't even recognize the phone when plugged in usb on the computer. the battery charges fine with an external charger, but obviously i cannot use the phone while the battery is out on an external charging unit. I know someone is probably going to suggest the charging port went bad...i highly doubt that because it was just replaced not a week ago. also, any time i've had a charging port go out, nothing will work in the port, not even a dongle jig. I powered the phone down and inserted my dongle jig to test and make sure, and sure enough, the second the dongle jig is inserted the phone powers on and boots into download mode as it should. I've reset dalvik ect. tried everything i can think of besides wiping and reflashing, as i'm trying to avoid that since i have about 4 hours or so in setting up custom settings/apps ect. on the phone lol. I've noticed browsing the web i'm not the only person experiencing this issue, so can someone please help me in fixing it asap? Thanks in advance for the help, and if a thread was already posted on how to fix this, please direct me to it, because i could not find it.
[Update]
I have wiped and reflashed just to test and see if that would fix the issue, sadly it still will NOT charge.
