Ok, I am really confused. I have a Dell Streak 5 that has been carrier unlocked with the unlock code from Dell. I got that far.
However, I am going crazy trying to figure out how to root and get a custom recovery and ROM on this phone. There are 50 how to's and tutorials and they all have a different process and dead links.
I am not a noob when it comes to rooting. Have been doing it for a while. I am just confused because the Streak is different from HTC and Samsung.
Here is what I understand so far: Sorry for the repeated thread, but with dead links, it is making it really confusing for me.
1. I need to install the drivers. Where are the drivers? Every link I am finding is dead.
2. I need a custom recovery I have downloaded Team Win Recovery Project 2.3.
3. I need to install the recovery with Fastboot? How do I install fastboot?
4. From the Recovery, I need to install superuser.zip.
5. After Superuser is installed, I am rooted.
I will find the drivers and put it on my Box account, and give a link. . . . . I have a superuser.zip. . . . You just put it on the sd card, then with fastboot put streakmod on to install .zip. . . . Then you install romsbthat way too. Im on windows 7...i just went into windows explorer and made a folder on the C drive, called streak. . . . I put all my files in here. . . . Even made folders inside for stock rom,and custom roms. Qdl tool, fastboot
posted from my Pimped out Dell
you can download the superuser.zip from here with your phone,it will be on your sd card(root folder)
Superuser.zip
https://www.box.com/s/j4h9jylsss4p53ze5j6o
put all these two folder in a folder you name on your C drive....then you run the drivers, after that you should not have streak plugged in to pc,hold power and camera button down till white screen...then hit "fastboot"....wait a few seconds before you plug usb cable into pc,now plug your streak's usb cord into pc....if you installed the drivers right....it should say fastboot mode on your streak now.
now open the folder you made, and put all these files in,on your C:\ drive, now click on "Multi-Flasher"....then "multi-flasher.bat (windows batch file)...then go throught the steps in the CMD window to install whatever recovery or baseband you want, which now is custom/Streakmod
now after you fastboot the streakmod recovery, then it will say reboot,in that same CMD window,do it...but make sure you hold both volume buttons down on that "first" reboot(dont let it boot up normally,or youll have to start over) .now when you boot up,youll be in the stock recovery....but hit the second number, install from sd card, and hit camera button....it should go to the streakmod recovery(the Blue letters)
.....now you can navigate to install from .zip , and install the superuser file(usally in download folder)....now hit back, then hit reboot.....you should be rooted now.I updated my busybox app after this.
tell me if you got it to go into fastboot

in my personal opinion I would not use it. I would send the commands to flash files manually using fastboot. In either case it looks like you haven't properly extracted the files to where you are flashing from
Actually Cdzo I used it quite often, without problems. MRF is nothing more than a batch file that eliminates typing in the fastboot commands one by one. However its big selling point was that it included the recoveries as well as fastboot in the download.
@OP: Do you have spaces in the directory name and is the directory on the root of C: ?

Thank you for your comment .
Nicholas, you never answered my question regarding your setup. Is it on the root of your C: drive and are there any spaces in the folder name? The root of the drive is simply to find it easier, but I believe MRF balks when there are spaces in the folder names.
Actually , I had not have time to try again , simce I have seen your suggestion . However , I will tell you the outcome . Thanks !
Thank you so much . Since I had seen your suggestion , I have made the Flasher worked and flashed custom rom to my streak 5 today .
Hit the thanks button on my post if it was helpful.
OK, I tried installing this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737862, but I skipped step 0, as I had flashed my phone with that kernel a couple days ago when I rooted my phone, the rest of the steps I did all of them, all the cleans and wipes, but smth obviously went wrong, and my phone won't boot staying at the sony logo. I saw some other threads here with the same problem, but I couldn't find a solution. If anyone has a solution that will work at 100%, I'd appreciate it. My phone is not recognized by PC Companion so I Can't do anything there. I can't boot into cwm either, I can only use flashtool to flash my phone with a kernel, and I can't use fastboot mode as my device is not recognized in flashboot either.
use SEUS and repair your phone. (when it ask you have the latest version, just install anyways)

Do a full wipe n reinstall the rom
Bro

Okay. So it is possible to Flash a ftf file o your phone. And Fastboot mode is used to Flash kernels, While Flashmode is used to flash ftf files.
Thing to do is,
1.Get a ftf file ( better if prerooted )
2. Flash ftf to you phone using flashtool. (flashmode)
3. Then Flash Pureness With all steps followed strictly.
Or
1. Get ftf which is not pre rooted.
2. Flash ftf on you phone.
3. Root your phone again and install CWM. or Flash Custom kernel which comes with CWM using Flashtool (fastboot mode) and flash superuser.zip via CWM to root. ....// Both methods are to root you phone.
4. Install Pureness following each instructions.
Dont worry!
Even I faced the same problem as yours and I was flashing the same ROM. What I did was in CWM I wiped and formatted everything as per the steps and when I was doing install .zip file from SD card it was giving me error something like "BAD" Error, the problem was that I didnt copy the ROM .zip file properly to my memory card.
So do one think first download the official 4.0.4. ICS ".ftf" file of your device from here-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678690
(As per your device 4.1.b.0.431 OR 4.1.B.0.587) it must be around 200 - 300mb.
Then copy that .ftf file in C:\Flashtool\firmwares (Make sure there is no other file present in "firmwares" folder, if there then delete it.)
(Hope you have installed Flashtool. If not then download & install it from here-
http://androxyde.github.com/index.html?1357230558000)
Then open "Flashtool", press "Flash" button and select "Flashmode" press "Ok" then again press "Ok"
wait for few seconds while its preparing.
Then a new window will Open and follow the Instructions like- unplug device, power off, press and hold back button and connect it to PC
This will install the stock ICS on your phone and will go ahead of that sony logo where you are stuck. :good:
Thats It. Your Done!!

Thanks man, that's what I was looking for, the stock ICS for my phone. Did that, re rooted my phone and this time things went fine, I managed to install pureness, even though I didn't do it from cwm directly, but from a program called x-parts (which seems to install cwm) since cwm itself would say no recovery for your phone or something, once again thanks. Also, that method with SEUS works as well, so thanks to that other guy, too. And to the guy saying search, I searched, read my OP, and I tried different stuff before asking here for like 4-5 hours, but I just panicked into thinking I ruined my phone so I came and started my own thread, since that's what the guy in the 'welcome noob' video said, but I guess people aren't allowed even to ask around here.
I never had this kind of problem, but try these following steps , may be this will help you:
1. Reboot your phone and hold back key : this will help you to set your cellphone in fastboot mode
2.Download android sdk from here
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html (chose the zip file)
after download extract the file and rename it to androidsdk (you must have java)
put the folder (androidsdk) on drive c
3. Then download recoveryNeo.img from here (on the first post)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1183465
after you put the file recoveryNeo.img on androidsdk /tools
4. Connect your phone to your PC
5.now from your PC start choose run and type cmd then ok
copy and paste these orders (press enter after evry order)
cd/
cd/androidsdk/tools
fastboot devices (you must see the SN of your device)
fastboot boot recoveryNeo.img
after finish

As I mentioned in my previous post, I managed to fix it, but thank you, I appreciate it, and will keep this method in mind for future references, in case I or anyone I know screws things up
Flash 4.1.B.0.587.ftf using flashtool
or
1.Factory reset in cwm
2.wipe cache partition
3.wipe dalvik cache
4.Format /system (in mounts and storage)
5.Format /data
6.Format /cache
7.Install XXX.zip (XXX=the rom name)
8.Install patch for your phone model (if there are)
9.Reboot
U seemed to take things wrongly bro.. see whatever solutions people have provided u is from xda threads only right? Soo that means if u read u will get it.. its not that we dont want to help.. the point is the help is already available.. its just that u have to search.. thats all.. bcz mny people have this doubt..
evry person rooting his phone n doing this stuff first tym has this doubt.. n helps are already provided.. dont misunderstand people and blame that u are not allowed to ask questions.. chill and understand..

Already quite a few guides and one of the most noob friendly guides are available in this Neo forum and we are lucky to have it
Why not make use of their time and effort?rather than duplicating a post and cluttering up the forum!
The threads /guides are noob friendly
Creating a new thread without searching /without checking for a thread having similar title is not appreciated here!
I get your point and also know you didn't ask the question but just wrote this to clarify things incase you weren't aware!

Step 2 - Enable USB Debugging mode in your Nexus 10 tablet.
Step 3 - Download Fastboot and extract it in android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools directory. Create directory if not already there.
NOTE: Skip Steps 1, 2, 3 if you already have them.
Step 4 - Download SuperSU v1.04 (UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.04.zip) and copy it to your sdcard on your Nexus 10 tablet.
Step 5 - Make sure you have backup your data as it will be removed. Then switch OFF your Nexus 10.
Step 6 - Download recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-manta.img and copy/paste it in the android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools directory.
Step 7 - Now go into Fastboot Mode on Nexus 10. How? Press Volume Down + UP + Power key for a few seconds till you see some text on the screen.
Step 8 - Navigate to android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools directory and open Command Prompt (Shift + Right-click > Open Command Prompt).

Step 11 - Then scroll down to “flash zip from SD card” and press the Power button to select it.
Step 12 - Press the Power button again and select “choose zip from sdcard”.
Step 13 - Now using your volume keys, navigate to the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.04.zip file that you copied to your SD card and select it using the Power button. Confirm the installation on the next screen and the installation procedure should start now.
Step 14 - After the installation completes, go to “+++++Go Back” and reboot the phone by selecting “reboot system now” from the recovery menu. Then Choose yes flash recovery back (this will make CWM your permanent recovery mode)
That’s it. Your Nexus 10 is now rooted on Android 4.2.2 JDQ39 software version of Jelly Bean and even has a custom CWM recovery installed. Check for the SuperSU app in your apps list to verify.

3.- Flashed recovery-twrp-2.4.2.0-manta.img
4.- TWRP asked if I wanted to install SU, I said yes
5.- Happy days.
Sorry if this has already been asked and I'm not understanding it.
I bought my mom a Nexus10 and it's missing some Indian fonts on it. I saw I need to flash on a fontpack to add them.
The tablet is totally stock, on 4.2.2..
Do I need to unlock the bootloader first (which wipes all the data) and then do the steps from the 1st post?
This whole process is not working for me. I am in windows 8 and it just doesnt let me install sdk nor even ask me to install drivers. Can you suggest what is the possible way out? I am unable to move ahead due to these issues :/
Root failed.
I followed all instructions (I have successfully rooted a number of smartphones and the Nexus 7 before this). The end result is that the Nexus 10 is unlocked, but hangs on bootup with just the X showing. I can't go into Recovery mode (I just get the Android lying on his back with an exclamation point showing and eventually it tries a normal boot - as far as the X).
I can't try Restart Bootloader as this, too, leads to just the X and hangs. I have reset the tab (power + down volume) and also have tried to reconnect the tab to the PC, which now does not recognize it, putting fastboot.exe and adb.exe out of reach. I think something might have gone wrong installing CWM, though it did boot up a couple of times after that with a couple of errors that passed by too fast to copy - before it started to hang. I never got a chance to put superuser on it as Recovery mode is out of reach. I tried a master reset the last time I got to Recovery Mode, but got several minor errors and now seem not to have ANY bootloader working. Short of sending the tab back to Google to have them restore a 'cherry' Android 4.2.2 (for a sum), I'm lost as to where to go next.
Any ideas?

Recovery mode always goes to Android 3e and not CWM, so im getting "signature verification failed" error
and i cant install the correct cyanogen mod.
Also tried with nexus tool without any luck.
If anybody can help, it would be much appreciated. I will PayPal $10 if somebody helps me to fix this tablet.

how to boot into download mode?
Go to official site of ur device and download usb drivers of ur device or just google it
These are .exe files install them normally on ur PC
Just search google about the key combination to boot in download mode or search on xda
Or try booting in bootloader and then follow steps below

I use Windows 7 64
I downloaded the lates firmware: 10 inch TAB-PROTAB2XXL(4.1)-Android 4.0-20120409.zip
Inside there are 3 folders: LiveSuite, 10 inch TAB-PROTAB2XXL(4.1)20120409, UsbDriver
In UsbDriver there are 7 files and non of them is .exe:
usbdrv.inf
usbdrv.sys
usbdrv_AMD64.sys
usbdrv_IA64.sys
usbdrvi64.cat
usbdrvx64.cat
usbdrvx86.cat
I also tried to install with "Device Manager", but when i click on UsbDriver it gives me empty folder.

I think im going to break the fking thing. Im on the edge of my nerves.
I manage to reset it to its original android 4.03 and touchscreen is working now, but
still getting the same "signature verification failed" error when in recovery mode 3e.
Also, tablet is not recognized by ROM Manager CWM, so booting to that recovery and
toggle between signature verification option is not an option.
I think there is no "download mode" on this tablet.
Anything else that you suggest? Im running out of options and the tablet already
received couple of punches. Not sure how long is going to last.
i guess download mode is the recovery mode? When android is on his back?
Anybody got any advice?
SuperOneClick says that my tablet is rooted, but SuperUser cant gain root access. Also i installed Titanium Backup and its same, cant gain access to the root.
What else can i try? Is this tablet lost?
Did u tried to install the USB drivers from the method given in PDF file
Use z4root to root ur tablet.
Thank You Yash for all your help. Finally managed to install Cyanogenmod.
So wow ur done ......

Hi Everyone i'm a newbie in this field so correct me if i'm wrong with some terms...
It's really frustrating to accidentally delete 'build.prop' without backing up and having only blackscreen showing up when you reboot is annoying isn't it? Well luckily i have made some fix here it is
BUT... make sure:
1.you have your drivers correctly installed
2.you installed your Android SDK and Java SDK(Note: java sdk must be the first to be installed)
3.you installed your adbfastboot
4.you can access to recovery and download mode(research on how to execute it.)
5.most helpful if you have installed PDANet on your PC(it will help you determine if your adb is runnning)
6.you have downloaded the suitable .img clockworkmod file(needed for flashing
7.you downloaded you're stock rom/custom rom (it's up to you)
6.you have internet acess(needed for researching since i can't provide the links)
7.and especially PATIENCE!
LET's BEGIN.
1.Put your phone into download mode
2.Then wait for notifications and check if an Android Device is installed
3.You installed your fast boot now you're ready to flash your .img clockworkmode file
...3.1.Open your cmd
...3.2.CD your path for the adbfastboot
...3.3.then type 'fastboot flash recovery clockworkmod.img' (without the quotes)
4.Now that you installed your CWM put the downloaded ROM into your SDcard then mount it to your device
5.Remove then re attach the battery and proceed to recovery mode(research on how to execute your phone's recovery mode)
6.Then now you're in cwm recovery mode you may now flash a stock/custom rom
(use your volume buttons to go up and down and power button to enter)
...6.1.Clear your data
...6.2.In the menu choose 'apply update from SD card' then install from SDcard
...6.3.Toggle and locate where you have place the rom
...6.4.Choose the desired rom then enter, then the package will install wait until it finishes and go again to the main selection menu
...6.5.Reboot and there you have it you have just revived your phone
Another Method is by using adb
1.Find the build.prop that you deleted for your phone
2.Push it inside of the adb ex.(adb push<file location> [space] <remote>)
this is my first post hope i helped you...
hey....
my x-bo o2 phone..
stock on boot animation although i reset and reboot it it still stock...
because i replace a new build prop came from my old phone ...after i reboot my phone ..it wont start..
heellp plz..
I think you have to flash the firmware with odin.
Replace permission
Permission change is required for work.
