from Xperia X10 to Xperia J? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys I wanna know your opinion
Do you think that the Xperia J is a good upgrade, currently I am using the X10.
Does anyone of you own the J and can compare a bit?
From the Hardware it has more ram (512mb), the battery is a bit better (1750mah), the Screen has beautiful 16M colors and the same dimensions as X10's.
Tests say that the battery life is awsome and the camera is bad :/
So now, what do you think?
Is it a good upgrade from the X10?

On March 18 there is an announcement in Russian which may be the release of some new phones or at least the announcement of them.
There is an XPERIA L with some parallels to the XPERIA P and along the same lines as the XPERIA X10i (but more powerful)
The XPERIA L is claimed to have a 1GHz Snapdragon dual-core processor, Adreno 305 GPU, 4.3-inch display with resolution of 854 x 480, 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD), an 8-megapixel rear camera with Exmor RS sensor and a 1700 mAh battery. Dimensions are said to be 128.7mm x 65mm x 9.7mm.

Thank you very much for your opinions
This Xperia L sounds very good, I will wait if there is an annoumcement
May be the perfect one, even if there are no infornation about RAM, what is personally important for me (i mean 1 ghz is enough, but ram should be at least 512mb, better 1gb ) so it gonna be better than Xperia J for sure.
I do not need a phone for gaming, it is just that my x10 is getting older and older and the battery doesnt least long enough. So i dont want a superphone

Android: 4.1.2

So, that's one OP sorted then. :fingers-crossed:
Reviews do note some slight camera and application startup lag. But we are talking about what is today a low end Android phone and not a Sony flagship as the XPERIA X10i was in it's day.
But ignoring what reviewers say, the XPERIA L looks like a pretty tight(Good) little package. Sweet.

True, but maybe this is the Sony 2013 entry level phone now. So maybe there is no 'low-end' Sony 2013 phone, maybe it's just good, better and best from now on. You go Sony
Maybe 2012 was the swan song for the Sony single-core processor phone. The XPERIA J would have struggled with anything beyond a communications device[Me thinks]. Visual media may have been a bit challenging on the XPERIA J with an Adreno 200 even if it was the advanced version, as the XPERIA J does parallel the XPERIA X10i very closely.
Based on the specs of the MSM8230 in the XPERIA L there is potential for it to be over-clocked to 1.2GHz.
I'm still smitten with the XPERIA L as even with a 1750mAh battery, the small screen and processor may be able to collectively pull some good battery hours when rooted and SetCPU profiles are used to 'model' screen off and CPU governors and etc.
And to have NFC, WiFi-Direct/Miracast (2.4GHz/5GHz WiFi) and from indications, a good GPU in the form of the Adreno 305 as well as all the rest, the XPERIA L gives a good rounded package.
Mind you the XPERIA SP is tempting with it's "BLING" factor and higher specs.

I have the Xperia L now by the way
my mom has the xperia SP and it is not so much better in my eyes. it is bigger and fatter. and the screen and rocessor really seem to save some battery.

Same here.....
just saw it today:
the final version of the new xperia mini pro has a front facing camera
and a hard tempered 4 point multitouch glass screen
Wouldit be worrth buying the new mini pro, regardless of theprice?
In doubt but I guess not
- Front camera, I dont care about it, I never use videocall also not for skype. costs much battery probably anyway
- BAttery boost, curious how long it will last now.
- android 2.3, we have it already (thx devs )
- snapdragon processor. Doesnt matter, our mini pro is already blazingly fast!!
- Design, I like the new one! new keyboard layout, looking at the pictures. symbols moved to left, 4 arrow keys to the right seems nice. Aside from homescreen/backbutton etc, pretty much teh same
- Multitouch, we already have it! But I'm curious how it works on the new one. It's quite difficult to handle now in some apps i.e. google maps.
Maybe I'm missing some hot items here, but as far as I can see now, no need to switch! Although its an awesome phone I think!

How about:
- Bigger and better screen
- Higher resolution
- Record video in HD
nah. regular users dont need an "improvement" like that. compared to the iphone 1 to 4. the just add additional features.. a liitle.
its gonna take an year more to reach the price what the old mini are selling for...
and not to forget... I would personally want the battery replacement. maybe that fits my mini
new pro looks sweet as
ya, i like the mini pro a lot as well, too bad it does not have exmor r mobile, i may consider getting it to replace my current mini once it's available
Battery Life and price
These will be the two factors to take into consideration. In just about every other aspect, the mini pro 2 looks like a winner.
Wonder how much power the new CPU will consume vs. the old one. Interestingly enough, from what I've read, the new CPU is an older design, ARM7, and higher frequency, as well as more powerful GPU. My guess is it'll be more power hungry.
I think a 1200 mAh battery is still a bit short on capacity for the current Mini Pro, wonder how the new one will do given that it will be more power hungry.
If I'm wrong about the CPU specs please enlighten me.

True but, no matter how fast the X10 Mini Pro can get, it will never run apps that require ARMv7, meaning no native Flash support for example. Though that's less of an issue for some people, I'd personally love to have full Flash support on my Mini, Flash videos only with Skyfire, having to switch between Skyfire, Opera Mobile and the Youtube app doesn't quite cut it.

With the new MP - it's basically the phone we all want now.
2.3 will be running properly with all features and functions working correctly and be vastly more stable. (eg Camera functions and ANT+)
We should have the unlocked bootloader should we wish to use it.
We'll get Flash.
I'll be getting one ASAP as it fulfils my requirements perfectly - something which the current MP doesn't quite, even with all the modules and hacks available.
It's announced on official Sony Ericsson site

[Q] Alternative to XPeria Ray? - Buy Ray now or wait

Hi all!
have been reading in this (awesome) forum for a while now. so first, thanks for the great work!
at the moment i own a ZTE blade with CM7 and its getting old. so i wanted to buy a new phone. sadly, all the new and great phones are massively big. i dont want to have to bua a manpurse so, the ray is one of the few phones that actually are small and where the community support (xda!) is great
the question is, is it intelligent/reasonable to buy a ray now? or should i wait? the xperia U is almost released and it has a dual core and nicer design (imo) but it also has a weaker battery and the worst part: no SD card slot.
as i want to use the phone as my mediaplayer as well, the 4gb of memory the U offers could be a bit of a pain.
so, my question:
is the ray that awesome that i should buy it now? or is there an alternative that you would recommend? what i expect from a phone:
small
nice screen resolution (>= 800x480)
reasonable battery
custom roms!
hope somebody can help me
IMHO, i would suggest you wait and see once Xperia U has been released and see it perform first.
if you are really sticking with the Sony brand and the listed specifications is what you prefer, the Xperia U is the closest one in comparison.
some downside (comparing it to ray) is the lower resolution camera 5MP, no SD card (4GB is not enough, at least 8GB or more), battery capacity is really low (not sure why?)
if i would choose my next Sony phone, I would go with the Xperia P.
Sony Experia U compared to Sony Ericsson Experia Ray
- better processor (dual core) and GPU (Mali400)
- no SD card slot
- lower quality camera
- smaller battery life
the decisive questions are
- how much better is the NovaThor U8500 CPU compared to Qualcomm Snapdragon SM8255 ?
- is the 8mpix ExmorR camera of Ray so much better than the simple 5mpix camera of U?
but even the NovaThor U8500 CPU is getting old...
so this is a hard decision, Experia Sola has the sd card but it will cost 50 euro more than Ray
here you can see Sola and Ray side by side: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9gO11MG6ss
future support for sola?
hi,
yes, the question is, how will the sola or U perform compared to the ray, because the ray is awesomely small.
this may be hard to answer, but would you think that it is likely that the Sola or U will get community support and custom roms like the 2011 xperia line?
the sola would be my fallback device. it is still reasonably small and has the sd slot. sadly a bad battery as well.

Camera quality cannot be said like this, it needs to be checked by comparing 2 photos.
Battery life needs to be tested also, as this information on websites are about phone in perfect conditions.
And how do you confirm that Mali400 is better than Adreno 205?

Mali400 is definitely better than Adreno 205, Samsung Galaxy S II uses the Mali400
"ARM's Mali-400 MP4 is the Fastest Smartphone GPU" http://www.anandtech.com/show/4760/arms-mali400-mp4-is-the-fastest-smartphone-gpufor-now
NovaThor uses a less powerfull version of Mali 400 than Samsung Galaxy S II
even Samsung I9070 Galaxy S Advance will use the same NovaThor 8500
but of course Mali400 and Adreno 205 are old now, in autumn new GPU will come Mali 604 vs Adreno 320
even Mali 604 is already old since it was announced in 2010 so in 2013 we get Mali 658

Xperia SX seems to be a real Xperia Ray successor: small & powerful. The problem is that international version is not announced yet. At the moment it's only available in Japan. But is probably worth waiting...

Xperia Ray is the best smartphone, i'm the crispy display and far better battery backup. The phone was announced in 2011 and if you have never purchased it yet then i would like to suggest you Xperia U. Limitation with storage but good phone with looks and powerful configuration.
if i thinking about xperia U, i thinkings :
"is that too bad for a phone w/o sd slot?"
"how about future mod about this phone?" (like how can i backup my phone using CMW. but who knows....XDA devs are awesome)
"how far google can support this phone in the future?" (i believes that google will update this phone to JB)
For mostly users (dont really care about novathor, snapdragon or else), this may like some phone with best performance in its class (regarding from price n specs).
Xperia U's targeted for user whos like using cloudstorage more (the future ways) than natively sdcard.
USB OTG, dont forget that.

Xperia Sola Is most convenient one to your option
also remember that XDA users and developers will move to 2012 line
and Ray is 2011 ,by the time this devices will lose attention
or ,I think It's best if you waited for Google 5 Devices
I think those will be great options ,also will have the top XDA support + Google support

[Q] Planning to Buy Mini st15i

Hello mates,
I want one favour from you all good people here. I have sold out my HTC wildfire and planning to buy a mini st15i.
So basically I require some information before purchasing, like the length of the phone, battery back up, Armv6 or Armv7, gaming experience, music quality, etc.
However I have kept my eye on Zte Blade also but will probably go for mini st15i.
Also how are the experiences of rooting ,custom roms and modifications.
Please reply and give your valuable suggestions.
Regards
Shiv
Length of mini would be shorter than X8, but the screen is same size with X8 and multi-touch(max 4 touches), and also thicker than X8.
Battery see your usage, as my record on testing my Xperia mini maximum battery life is 2 days++.
This phone got a ARMv7 processor which is Qualcomm MSM8255, and also got Adreno 205 GPU as while..
Although I'm not so free to play game, but it can play heavy game such as SHADOWGUN.
Music quality still OK, and It got a 5MP camera, and also 720p HD video recording and playback.
About rooting if u get a .62 firmware Xperia mini, u must downgrade to .42 firmware via flashtool, getting root and update to .62 firmware via OTA update
Xperia mini is Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250, MSM8255 is Xperia mini pro...

Personally after owning the LWW for three months I would take the Blade any day. I like the hardware, But the screen is way to small for me. I had a Galaxy Ace before hand and despite how slow it was I would take it back.. Something about Sony's UI I just don't like! I have CM7 currently installed on my LWW, It makes the phone so much better, But the battery life is really poor unfortunately .
What spec. does the Blade have in your country? I know in the UK we have the 7227 600mhz/512mb ram which is quite poor now a days..

I think so haha!
Thanks to all of you..Now I am very much confused because of the two phones I have personally visited the local store and have seen the mini. Its very much small in size than wildfire and blade is almost the same looking device but having a poor CPU strength.
I dont like to play more games on cell. I love to play videos from youtube and online movies. So 600 Mhz and 200 adreno GPU would be capable to satisfy the needs?

About Xperia P?

Hello Everyone
Sorry if this was posted before, but I'm planning on switching from Xperia Arc S to Xperia P
I was reading through online reports / reviews from here, CNET, Sony's official website.
and I'm kinda confused, I know it's for sure better than the Arc S but I was wondering is it really worth upgrading?!
The main reason for me to upgrade is to avoid the lags / freezes I'm getting on ICS even after removing bloatwares, adding build.prop values and running init.d scripts (unless there is something else I'm missing).
So what do you think guys is it worth the upgrade?! Are there any stupid lags or are the Dual-core CPU and 1GB RAM doing their job?!
Also is Sony WhiteMagic technology really helping users to see under strong light? I can barely see my Arc S screen when I'm not under a roof !!
What about GPU?! I read a while back that Adreno 205 (which is included in the Arc S) is better than Mali-400MP unless that fact is changed
Thanks in advance

Adreno 205 is way weaker than Mali-400. The fact that Galaxy S3 uses Mali-400 is enough. Adreno 220 or 225 could match Mali-400, but Adreno 205 can't.

WOW I didn't see that coming !! Thanks for pointing it out for me
What about the dual-core CPU?! is it doing it's job?! CNET Review made me somewhat confused :-/
Surely dual core means something no lags whatsoever for me on offial ICS

I'm sorry for all the questions but I still have more
I read here that unlocking the bootloader is not really recommended for Xperia P?
Well I did that for my Arc S so I can flash custom kernels and always be rooted, I can't stay without root or else I wouldn't be able to test a single thing of Droid Manager :-/
Or else I wouldn't care about rooting the phone since I don't flash themes nor mods, I like the OS the way it is
I go to Xperia P from Xperia Neo. Xperia P is fast enought and not need for custom ROMs! In games Xperia p is faster as Xperia Neo with overclocked CPU up to 1,8 ghz, for example, Dead space on Neo lag in scenes with monsters, but on Xperia P whole game go smooth!

Well I don't really care about overclocking since I rarely overclock my Arc S, besides, it's a dual core CPU for a smart phone OS I don't think there will be a need for overclocking taking in consideration that I only play Temple Run, Unblock me when I'm board . I was just somewhat afraid from not finding it's performance smooth enough, but after all the feedbacks I got I think I'm gonna head for one in the next couple of days
it has good performance for a phone, it's beautiful, and with official ICS you have extended standby mode that can make your phone live some more days, I mean with "normal" phone use you can stay up to 2days more, so you charge it every 3 days, maybe 4 if you don't use it, that's quite good, IMO it's the perfect phone because of the price and it's 4' screen (above it's too large for me)
About the whitemagic tech, it's really good. Even when the sun shines on the screen I can see it. And not only barely see it like with the iphone 4 or the x10, it is really bright! I would dare to say that it's the brightest screen on the market for now. Else the phone is really smooth, does not lag, only right after boot for me, cuz I added a huge load of widgets. I scroll once through the homescreens and it's gone
That's exactly what I needed to know
Thanks guys for your feedbacks
Ok I haven't yet got the Xperia P
but I was reading online and I found it has Bluetooth 3?! and "Has a Corning® Gorilla® Glass display" ?! is that true?!

No, Bluetooth 2.1 and a hardened glass display that is produced by Sony in-house.
Thank u guys for your recommendations I got the phone.and.its amazing
Oneast question what will I lose if I unlock the bootloader?! On Arc S I only lost TrackId, what about facebook inside Xperia and other Sony extras?!

Actually, GS 3 is not as same the GPU as XPERIA P, because GS3 used Mali 400 MP4, U8500 used Mali 400 MP1...
Mali 400 MP1 is far weaker than Mali 400 MP4, and also weaker than Adreno 205...

ok, I'm lost now. I recall reading about Mali 400 on both Xperia P and the S III Specification on some website (I can't recall which one), the website shows they are the same. sooo ?!

i have no idea what they are all doing.
Im looking for phone with 4gb memory plus card support , about 3.8 screen , camera max to 8mpix and 1gb ram. It will be best phone in cheap price.
But they need to pack all the stuff into that all.
2gb ram?? no android, even miui wont use it.
phone ok but with price they will want for it will be to big and not much persons will buy it.
if it all is true
now Im stoping spaming
Who wouldn't want this? I was disappointed it didn't show up sooner. It looks plastic and not as high end as the z1. I hope that at least translates to removable battery. Theres something cool about a small phone with that much power. "Phenomenal Cosmic Power, itty-bitty living space."
would be great but,why ray 3 while there is no ray 2?
there is no such thing.and the pics are fake.but im proud of Xperia Ray cuz it so good that we allways hear this fake news.i wish there would be really another ray.but this phone will remain a legend.
The Honami Mini has similar specs ....
