Help appreciated... I've searched and found some similar threads but nothing that quite covers this. Here's the story:
Mid 2012: bought new Note from ATT in New York. Never had an ATT SIM in it.
Took it home, bought a SIM unlock. Installed Seraphim Mesosphere, CWM recovery, Blaze modem. Worked perfectly on tmob SIM for the next few months.
October 2012: Moved to New Zealand. Removed tmob SIM. Installed NZ Telecom contract SIM. Worked perfectly for the next four months.
February 2013: one day I lost network connection. Rebooted. 'No SIM'. Aaaaargh!
Tried everything I can think of. SIM works fine in other phones. SIMs known to work in other phones don't work in the Note.
Done numerous factory resets, wipes of caches.
Reinstalled Blaze & Seraphim. Tried other ROMs. Tried other modems.
Fired up Odin and blew it all back to stock AT&T.
Reinstalled Blaze, CWM, Seraphim etc.
*nothing works*
Since the day it failed it's never once hinted at recognising the SIM or talking to the network.
Is there *anything* else I could try before I blame the hardware and try getting the SIM module replaced?
Thanks
Mike
Did it work on the stock att after Odin? I assume no since you didn't mention....but never assume.

Nope, since the day it suddenly stopped working nothing worked - including stock att. Prior to that it was 100% reliable. Something catastrophic seems to have happened.
(and the bloody captchas are too hard; took me 4 attempts to post this!)

My money would be on hardware issue if it didn't work after odin
Advice on "No SIM"
Mike,
Have you considered using the KIES tools menu to do a full firmware upgrade and initalization? That will wipe all your data and previous software changes and give you a pristine AT&T loadout. All you need is your model number and the serial number found beneath the battery. As a precaution, check that you have the latest version of KIES, and use only an OEM USB cable.
Check back and let us know if that worked.

Thanks zancro that's one thing I've never done. I'll investigate the method and have a hack at it!

Well I'm struggling with KIES.
I'm referring to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731654
Which says:
2) Launch Kies on your desktop (full version)
4) Choose Tools, Firmware upgrade & initialization
a) While in download mode, pull battery and enter the S/N & model name (ALL CAPS!!)
My KIES (the latest version, 2.0.0.13023_0 for OSX) has the following in Tools menu:
Emergency Firmware Recovery
Firmware Upgrade Settings
Install Driver
Yes I installed driver
Going to Emergency Firmware Recovery produces an empty list (and a button offer recovery with a recovery code, which I don't have); the KIES 'connected devices' list shows 'connecting...'
No place to enter S/N & model.
Yes I've rebooted, put phone in and out of download mode etc., and used a couple of different cables, both of which work fine with Odin.
Help?
Belay my last post; I've dusted-off an old windoze laptop and installed KIES for windoze; it appears to have additional functionality the OSX version doesn't
Did the full factory restore as described.
Still 'No SIM'.
Hardware.
Thanks folks.

I think there might be an issue with the SIM holder on at least certain of these phones. I recently swapped my original Note because the power button got stuck. The first replacement (through ATT Warranty exchange) had issues unrelated to the SIM. However, the next replacement (two days later) had a SIM issue and the next replacement I got (last Friday) also had SIM issues. I replaced the SIM at an ATT Store on Saturday and still had issues and the people in the store told me that it was not the SIM card, but a hardware issue, but still gave me a new SIM. Last night, Warranty Exchange agreed to send me my 4th Note replacement in less than two weeks. Hopefully this one will not have any problems.

Hi,
I bought my vibrant in 04/09/2010 from an ebay store without any contract and it was unlcoked.
I would like to get my GPS fixed by either samsung or T-Mobile.
I already emailed the ebay store I bought it from and they said I could send the phone to samsung to get it fixed.
1. Do I have a warranty? Who is responsible for my phone right now? samsung or t-mobile?
2. What is the official rom version right now? KA5? where can I get a complete stock version of this rom, not deodexed, without root, somthing that I can send to the samsung service?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you very much
The T-Mobile Vibrant officially came out on 07/15/10, you got it in April?

I'm pretty sure he's using the international date standard: dd/mm/yy, as opposed to the american version: mm/dd/yy.

AFAIK, neither samsung nor t-mobile actually fixed the GPS issues.
the closest thing we have to a fix is the JI6 firmware update (which managed to help only *some* phones) and the hardware mod that's a sticky on the general forums.
technically, you could go ahead and see if samsung could help you out but your warranty is voided if your phone is used outside of the US (so don't let them know that you have if you're not in the US)
i'm not sure, but i think the official stock rom out there right now is KA7.
if you're looking for a stock rom, check out the android dev section of the vibrant forums.
1. I'm using the international date format because i'm not from USA. The warranty is voided if i'm using the phone not in USA in a GSM network? can you show me on samsung's site where it is written?
In any case I have someone going to the USA in a couple of days so he can drop it at samsung's service and they don't have to know.
2. I saw in one of the forums, that any galaxy s phone (or one of the US variants) made after october had a hardware fix for the GPS, and I even saw people writing that T-Mobile replaced their phone because of the GPS problem. Can someone confirm this?
Thanks again for the help

If you are a T-mobile USA customer (which I am). I called Tmobile. And they are sending me a refurbished SAmsung Vibrant no questions asked because I told them I could not get a GPS lock and that my phone was made in August 2010 (before the Oct 2010 silent fix).
It's weird. Because I originally had a 06/2010 Vibrant and GPS worked flawlessly. Never had any issues. I sold it in December. I repurchased another Vibrant (made in 08/2010) and that Vibrant had major GPS issues.
Either way, Tmobile is sending me another Vibrant. Took a 5 minute phone call. You have to be a Tmobile customer.
Yeah call t-mobile that's what I'm doing couldn't get home in the snow storm because it would lock then throw me somewhere else

Do you think that T-Mobile will help me anyway?
Can someone confirm that the official rom is KA7 and not KA5 or KA6?
TMobile will not help you. You will have to try Samsung directly. Official ROM is KA6.

Samsung and T-Mobile never made any hardware changes to the GPS, despite some people on xda falsely claiming that Vibrants produced on/after Nov 2010 have new GPS hardware.
If you wan't to fix your GPS do the following steps.
1) Odin back to JFD
2) Completely wipe your phone. Format and do a factory reset by going to dialer then dial in *2767*3855#. This will format your phone and do a factory reset, so you will lose all data
3) Use kies mini to update to official KA6.
4) Then just for fun do one more format and factory reset by dialing
*2767*3855#
5) Now with your fresh stock phone, try the gps. Download GPS test from market and see how many sats it sees and locks onto. Chances are it will lock onto zero. It is ok, go back to Google Maps and leave it open for like 15 mins. Let the GPS keep searching. Eventually it will see sats and lock on. Go back to GPS test now you should see the GPS locking onto several sats. Your accuracy should be within 17-50ft, which is the best you can get with this piece of sh*t GPS.
6) After doing all the steps above, you can also optionally download "gps restore" from market, and run that while standing outside.
6) DONT MESS AROUND WITH LBS MODE, no matter what people here say.
Symptoms:
- On making a call, starting from today (really yesterday), I get no audio going in or out. However both speakers are work fine, because the earpiece makes a beep sound to let me know call forwarding is active. The rear one works for everything.
- Headphones in call don't work either
- Sometimes I get sound for one call until I hang up, or it's very crackly and
useless.
- While ringing when dialing out (or rather, when you WOULD be hearing ringing if it was working), sometimes it'll cut the call and say "OUT OF SERVICE AREA", and then I'll get the circle with the line through it where signal is supposed to be. Signal is back seconds later.
- Data and texting work fine.
Things I've tried:
- I was on Omega ROM 13.1 with Siyah 1.5.3, although I've read online people have this issue bone stock, unrooted.
- Flashed stock insecure kernel
- Flashed several different modems
- ODIN'd back to the ROM that came with the phone (was originally a real-SIM-unlocked, Vodafone Germany i9300).
- Wiped everything possible
I'm willing to donate via Paypal to whoever has a definitive fix for this problem. It's really driving me insane that I don't have a working phone for calls. Worst case I'll call Samsung, but I expect they'll charge me an arm and a leg, if they even accept it considering it's from Germany originally (bought it off Amazon in June). This seems like a software issue, not a hardware issue consider both speakers still physically work fine. The issue is, what the hell is causing it if it came about completely randomly, and is happening across all ROMs, kernels, and modems that I flash?
Before you ask, no the Accessibility Setting for turning off all sounds is not on.
Thanks in advance for anyone that replies.
I use omega rom and I've had this a lot, I found that restoring the apn using titanium backup caused the problem, so I now use a apn backup app. Sometimes flashing the modem twice, clear cache, fix permissions helps. I always got call audio if I flashed back the base Rom. On ics, I could flash modems Willy nilly and 90% would work, not so on jelly bean. However, on omega v25 I can flash any modem and it works. Lh4 is about the best modem for me,
After flashing Rom (with full wipe), check call audio, make 1 change at a time so you know what removes sound. You may have to clear cache/fix permissions after certain changes.

It just happened totally randomly (as in it began totally randomly). Flashing the ROM again helped for one or two calls. Then back to square one. Tried everything possible including wiping and restoring the EFS. I'm not sure what kind of issue this is because the speaker itself works and so do data and texting, but not calls.

Product F(RED), did you get a solution to this issue? i'm having the /exact/ same thing with my i9300 in the US. I'd also be willing to donate to whom ever documents a solution for this issue. I'll supply any information or do any action (short of bricking the phone) to fix it..
I had to ship it to the sellers on Amazon (who are in Germany, where the phone came from originally), and they shipped it to Samsung for repair, and then back to me. Samsung in any EU-member country (including the UK) will repair a Galaxy S3 from any other EU country, and my S3 has a 2 year warranty instead of 1. It was a hardware component failure (not sure which) which required a new motherboard.
Guess what. It's happening again. I don't know what to do. I don't have the time or money to keep shipping this thing abroad to get it fixed. -_-
Ok, is anybody still monitoring this situation? I have had this exact same problem which has plagued me now for about 2 months. The story is bizarre:
My phone was a blue i9300 which I bought factory unlocked at my local **** Smith retailer in July 2012. It worked just fine for months, then this audio problem surfaced, precisely as described here. I googled for solutions and tried various "fixes" which apparently worked for other people but had no effect for me. These escalated in invasiveness until I had flashed CWM and several ROMs with several versions of modem. None had any effect whatever. By this time, I decided it must be a hardware issue, so I spent the next week of my spare time trying to erase what I'd done so I could do a warranty claim. Finally I got TriangleAway to work and flashed it with I9300XXEMB1_I9300OXAEMB1_BTU stock UK system. To outward appearances, the phone looked original. Everything was fine, except for the original audio problem.
Meanwhile, I found a white S3 on ebay with a broken screen and I bought it for the motherboard, which I thought would fix the problem with the blue one and remove the need for warranty claim, as I still wasn't sure I'd covered my tracks well enough. The broken handset arrived and I carefully swapped the motherboard over, put the SIM in and made a call. I was horrified to find the exact same problem. Everything worked fine, except no audio on calls.
Now what was I going to do with this broken handset I just bought? It was worth nothing as it was, so I began looking on ebay for a new screen for it. Found one and ordered it. I had already decided that the fault must be on the screen half of the phone rather than the motherboard. While I was waiting for the screen to arrive, I took the original blue phone to **** Smith, explained the problem to them and asked them to send it to Samsung for me for warranty. This they happily did. I put my SIM in my Bauhn 3G tablet and have been using it as a phone (better than nothing) in the meanwhile.
The screen for the white one arrived yesterday and I sat down and carefully installed it. Put in the SIM and rang my landline. You guessed it, no audio. Exact same problem. WTF? This can't be happening. But it is. What do I do now? What are the chances of these two handsets having exactly the same fault? The white one has its original firmware XXBLH3. I haven't messed with it at all other than changing the screen. It can't be the SIM card as it works ok in the tablet. I am lost. HELP!
Edit: Just did an OTA upgrade, it is now 4.1.1 XXDLK1 Audio problem remains the same.

OK that's the most insane thing ever. I can't frigging believe it.
I've had this issue for a month and a bit and it's driving me insane. Worst of all it goes and comes back without any apparent reason. Today it started again. I've done all the exact things you did, changed modem firmware, installed cyanogenmod, everything in the phone works fine except I get no audio in calls and suddenly call drops and signal goes out of service for a few seconds.
After hearing about your case I don't know what to do. I have an insurance with the phone company that covers theft, I am thinking about it.....
well same thing happened to me , i was in a different country for one month and when i went back this started. i have no idea whats going on.

Vendor for warranty or Samsung give an additional 24 month warranty that is limited as per .
Just turned on my phone for the first time today and started getting "Enter Network Lock Control Key." No service with AT&T. Huh?
This phone was working fine for the past two years without any problems but why now? I spent over an hour with AT&T and Samsung with no resolution. Said my phone was the unlocked international version so they couldn't offer any support and told me to "contact the original carrier" (there is none...).
My version is the latest stock Android ICS 4.0.4 XEU. Never flashed or updated or did anything like that to my phone. What now?

I have a GT-I9100 with the original stock XEU firmware that is now running ICS 4.0.4 stock. It's the original and international version. However, AT&T is my carrier. I bought the phone off of Expansys.
Update: Just tried in another SIM card from another carrier, and it still doesn't work. Also, I tried restoring the phone back to its default self by doing a full reset and still the same message. Now I know that it isn't a SIM issue but rather a phone issue. Strangely, my phone has been working for 2 years and suddenly decided to "network lock" itself on an unlocked/international phone.

The update messed up and the phone reboots a few times then shows recovery mode.
ODIN recognizes the phone but it will not finish a firmware flash. It stops at NAND write start
The Samsung rep at Best Buy tried several times using the software he had available, but he was not able to get it working.
Any ideas?

True. They could see that KNOX isn't tripped so you couldn't have been trying to install a custom OS. If they don't replace it for free I'm going to be surprised.

Im currently on the phone with some foreign country. She keeps telling me that the warranty was up in November, so I had to pay the geek squad to fix it.
She then said I could walk in to the California or New Jersey repair location. I told her that walking 350 miles or 2500 miles was not an option. I asked where to send it and she repeated that I should just take it to the geek squad.
I had to tell her at least 6 times that after 8 hours in Best Buy, the Samsung rep gave up.
I asked for a supervisor and now Im waiting on hold.....
Samsung refused to replace or fix it.

The supervisor said they do not take any responsibility for updates, it was the carriers issue. Since the 1 year warranty expired on Nov 30 they were not going to do anything.

I went to update the S6 Edge + with an OTA update.
The update messed up and the phone reboots a few times then shows recovery mode.
ODIN recognizes the phone but it will not finish a firmware flash. It stops at NAND write start
The Samsung rep at Best Buy tried several times using the software he had available, but he was not able to get it working.
Any ideas?

I'm right there with you. My brother's phone failed the last OTA and his is out of warranty. They accused him of trying to root the phone - haha.
I don't mean to hijack your thread but I created a thread with a bit more of what I'm trying to do to remedy this situation - I'm seeking the latest update in which I can ODIN and see if that helps.
I'm looking for MMB29K.G928VVRS3BPL4 if anyone finds a copy.
I can't find it anywhere since it's so new and just went OTA.

I feel like I've been down this route.
Were you in the OS when you launched Smart Switch? How'd you do it? What's the trick?
I am in a boot loop, I can get to download mode and that's about it. I can't seem to get the time in for Smart Switch to recognize the device.
Idk... didn't do anything special just plugged my phone into the computer it recognized it and said that there was an update available and I proceeded with the prompts... sorry wish I could help you more... oh and by the way I was in the os...

Well after fighting with Verizon reps, I finally got one to go ahead and process a warranty exchange for me. It came in and the phone they caused to lock up went back in the box to them.......
I was able to get in using ODIN, but the newest firmware is not out and it would not load any previous version. The Samsung rep used his software and had access to the newest version but the phone would not flash to a working state, just a constant reboot with a message that it was upgrading.....

Interesting. Good to know, regardless.
I can get to Download Mode, go to Smart Switch and try a recovery but I enter my model number (SM-G928V) and it accepts that... and then it won't accept ANYTHING for an S/N!
What'd you enter for an S/N? I'm not asking for your S/N specifically - I"m just wondering what Smart Switch is demanding.
NOTHING WORKS! I have the original packaging in front of me, I've tried every code on the damn box - I originally thought it was the IMEI but NOPE!
I don't get it! So frustrating! Does anyone think Smart Switch not accepting an S/N has anything to do with the Verizon rep taking my SIM card out of my phone and....keeping it? My brother went back to his old S4 while I tried to fix his S6. It used a different sized SIM card. The fking rep took the S6's SIM card out and kept the damn thing and then put a new SIM card in my brother's S4.
Is the S/N somehow tied to the SIM card and w/o the SIM card Smart Switch doesn't know what's up?
Anyone?

Well an update did, Samsung said they do not provide any OTA updates, and blamed it on the carrier.

Of course they did. Anything to take the blame off of them. All the carrier can do is update carrier settings and that's it. There's no way the carrier is the one to blame since they have no access to the core system of Android, therefore the only person to blame is Samsung themselves.

Does anyone here know if the T-Mobile variant has a locked bootloader? And if so, is there any way to unlock it?
I'm wondering the same thing...I'll be going to look at it later today. Also I noticed the wifi model has the phone dialer installed so I'm wondering if the LTE T-Mobile model has phone function with the right sim installed?
I went to the T-Mobile store to look at the tab...They had no idea if the bootloader is locked or not. I'm sure it probably is but haven't seen anything about whether it can be unlocked yet. They also told me that the phone and SMS/MMS might work for a few days until the system detects it is a tablet, then those functions will be disabled. Make no sense to me why we can't have those functions on a tablet here in the US...And why even put the software on the tab if it can't be used? I told them to keep it and I'll get the WiFi tablet and just use the hotspot on my phone when I'm out and about. At least I'll get quicker updates (Maybe because Samsung) and I won't have the tons of their bloatware on the thing.
Any feedback?

If you can go into store and view the tablet go into settings and enable developer options by tapping on the build. Then go into developer options and see if there is a switch to unlock the boot loader. I just bought the wifi model from Best Buy and the boot loader can be unlocked. I have already installed TWRP and Magisk. I think maybe the LTE version may require a 7 day wait not sure.

from almost a year back-wondering was your wifi device branded like Tmobile or Verizon? sad to see no continuity in the thread-was hoping for someone to check out the lte device in Tmobile to see if it could be unlocked or if the option was there-not many resources on internet. Does Tmobile even carry this thing anymore? thanks

Unfortunately, I think I'm being held back by the whole 7-day oem-unlock hide thing. And all the ways around it have apparently been patched by samsung. So this time next week, I'll know for sure. As of right now, I believe it can be unlocked, but I don't know for sure.

thank you so much-well I will be receiving my device tomorrow. So let the race begin-ha ha kidding will see and compare. I did not know Samsung has this 7 day wait period (like Xiaomi has a 2 week period). Oh well, time will tell Thanks for keeping me posted and do let me know what you find. I did see a post somewhere on xda for the tab s6 where the poster said he could unlock the carrier device (think it was Tmobile) but he wanted to find out if he could root it. I will find the post (again it was an old one and of course, my response (recently) has not got any response. In fact, like many, he did not follow up with any posts thereafter (several months back).

Hello Arudis I got a used Tmobile variant. But I do not see any OEM unlock option in developer settings (a prerequisite before anything can be done for unlocking b/l). Which software version is yours having? (maybe it is different because you bought directly from Samsung but does not make sense if it is branded Tmobile). Could be that you have an older version of Android-appreciate if you could let me know which software version, CSC etc yours has. I might end up returning mine if there is no progress. Thanks.!
EDIT: Returned it. Great price and condition. Just too bad-did not want to take chances with it. Good luck-seems that you should be able to unlock it per that other post I sent.

Well. I'm struggling w/ it. CSC was TMB btw. This whole ordeal has been a mess of mistakes on my part. If i can't get this unlocked in the next day or 2 then i'll be returning it myself. I'd rather have a weaker tablet w/ root and a custom rom than a great tablet that i have to run stock.
Current software version is T867USQU3BTJ1 / T867UOYN3BTJ1 / T867USQU3BTJ1.
First thing I needed to know was whether or not I could unlock the tablet for other networks and in order to do that, I inserted a sim and logged into the tablet w/ my google account. I think this is where I made my first mistake as I have a sinking suspicion that inserting the sim somehow got rid of my oem unlock toggle. I know I had seen it before I started trying 2 unlock the sim because its always the first thing I do when I get a new device. But between the sim and the unlock process I ended up rebooting too many times and it auto-updated itself to the latest firmware. Since the latest firmware, I haven't seen that toggle at all. When I try to flash twrp w/ Odin, it fails.
@ this point I've decided that I will never buy another samsung device ever. I've had all manner of fun rooting every other device i've ever owned that wasn't a samsung device, however every samsung device has always been a supreme pain in the butt because I can't just do what i want w/ adb and fastboot.

I agree but this has more to do with (if not entirely) to U.S carriers playing games with dual devices for marketing-only here does this go on, where the carriers since time immemorial have blocked calls and texts on tablets (7 and above inches) giving some bs reasons (there was a time they had this tablet "plan" and phone "plans"-those have at least merged at least for Tmobile-otherwise their servers would detect a tablet and switch you automatically to a tablet plan for your 'convenience' and maybe even 'safety' lol)....so as long as they do this, Samsung (even Apple which does the same thing worldwide anyway) have tablets that do not have phone-like functions (Samsung has this call and text pairing with other Samsung phones a.k.a buy two of our devices please AND have two plans (so both Samsung and carriers win)...) on their U.S devices (Samsung at least to their credit have this :"unlocked" cellular variants in rest of the world, Apple does not even have that-yes, I know there is Google talk and all kinds of wifi-based workarounds but that is a different topic.
EDIT-if you compare the older devices like say tab S and tab s2 (the carrier variants and the international variants you will find out that even the speaker arrangements are different. I delved deep into this and found that even the boards were different-the lengths they went to do this to keep the versions distinct is amazing!) folks here on xda etc kept thinking for a while that they could simply flash the international ROMs (never mind the b/l block or hurdles) but the partitions were not even the same let alone the modems, and the actual hardware itself!
So blame the carriers-I do. So I never get these carrier devices (first time I tried my hand at it-no more)
Having to perform a soft boot tonight I noticed an "unlock bootloader command" in the softboot menu along with "cache clear" along with the always present "factory reset". Which I have to perform anyway because network mode locked to 3G only and no option to change it back so it has major conectivity issues. I'm thinking I may try the unlock bootloader command.
P.S. Mine is the tmo version

Out of curiosity which model number is your tmobile tab s6 lte? I have the verizon sm-t867v model which i re-flashed to the tmobile sm-t867u model using modified Odin 3.14. Unfortunately the bootloader remained locked down with no way to unlock it. Also what is this softboot menu your speaking of? I know samsung like the back of my hand and I've never heard of a softboot menu. Curious if this is something new im not aware of since I've been stuck with verizon brands the last 3 samsung devices I've owned...
Yes and Yes!
Can someone clarify something on the Tmobile Variant of the Tab S6?
This T867U definitely comes with the HARDWARE to text because i got it to work but it stopped.
So could this just be a matter of getting it 'Carrier Unlocked" so TMO cant decide what we do with our tab s6 since its payed for???
Make calls and send messages from your Galaxy tablet
With Call & text on other devices, you can receive calls and send messages on your Galaxy tablet that is logged in to the same Samsung account as your phone.

I have the same problem, I bought the device from eBay and now in Egypt, the device is locked to the T-Mobile network, and I don't know a way to unlock it. I cannot contact the seller to ask him about the T-Mobile subscription details, and after communicating with T-Mobile, they did not reply
