Camera doesn,t work after upgrade - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a problem with my Xperia X10i. When I want turn on camera, I see only "Application
camera doesn't work". I installed other application like Vignette or Camera360, but still
doesn't work. Previous owner said that probably it happened when android was upgrading from
1.6 to 2.3. I tried a change ROM for another 2.3 but camera still doesn't work. The solution with throwing
out a .thumbnails folder doesn't work too.
android 2.3.3
bandwidth 2.1.71
kernel 2.6.29 modFXP-DoomKernel-v04b

Try flashing stock kernel with flashtool. Yours can be find on X10 Firmware Collection thread.

Yours soulution doesn't work.
I will try to change a kernel.

Did you flashed a custom ROM? If not, why are you using a custom kernel tailored for FXP's CM7 (from the build name, I assumed)?

Try to repair your phone using pc companion. It will restore your kernel and rom to stock and then if the camera works, root and flash any kernel

Hi, welcome to XDA developers!
I'll try and help as much as possible...
Which kernel are you on? Stock or some custom kernel?
Thank you, I use Stock Rom, I thing it's Stock kernel. I tried to test many of the original Rom but the situation has not improved.
Another problem is that after many tests, I found only when using GoogleMaps with 3G, the machine I was reboot, if used with wifi is fine. So is 3G is the problem? but I still surf the Web using 3G normally without any problems. Hope your help!

Hi, it might be baseband problem, maybe baseband .71 isn't for you... Try this:
9Lukas5 said:
- Baseband 2.1.67
- smsBB67 patch
- Kernel upgrade
flashing procedure:
-The baseband and the kernel upgrade must be placed in the firmwares folder from flashtool and the sms patch on to the sdcard.
-After you have flashed the rom and the xrecovery now also flash the sms patch before remove the battery.
-In Flashtool flash first the 2.1.67 Baseband, after flashing finished, remove usb cable and select the kernel upgrade and connect the usb again when flashtool asks.
-After both (bb and kernel upgrade) flashed, you can remove the usb-cable and power on the device with everything working on bb 2.1.67.

After that you will need to flash Kernel UpGrade.

KA6 Ice Cream Sony Boot Loop

Hi
I have tried all day to install ICS on my Neo V, and I always end up in a boot loop (after the XPERIA logo it restarts). I have tried KA06 ICS and another Sony based ICS ROM.
I'm pretty new to this and I'm not sure what info you need so please ask away.
One thing I noticed is that whenever I clear the dalvic-cache it gives an error (not mounted or something i think?)
Thanks

2º Flash .62 baseband with flashtools(check exclude baseband).
3º Flash kernel.
4º Recovery wipe all + install k6.
5º Flash neo-v patch.
if i install .64 baseband im stuck on xperia boot image loops.

Sorry for my bad English...
@krabappel2548 It came unlocked and with a custom 2.3 rom when I bought it. I can install a stock 2.3 rom using flashtool fine.
@equlog Yes this time I didn't flash the 64 baseband from the KA thread and just left the stock one on. (I had .62 stock)
@wilsonchuchu I tried that but it didn't help
EDIT: Somehow it works now! I flashed the stock rom again and have been using it for a while (I rebooted a couple of times), then I flashed the non-oc kernel and this time I was able to clear the dalvic-cache. The rest worked fine and I've just booted in to the phone. I'm not sure why it worked this time because I've been doing this all day.
Now for KA7 lol

You're welcome I also updated Neo V patch
KA06 looks really good, just one problem so far (if you can call it that) the cosmic flow live wallpaper crashes every time I try to add it. The other live wallpapers work. Is this because the hardware acceleration isn't fully implemented yet?

I've just been reading some more about the fw/basebands and it looks like the .62 firmware does include the .64 baseband. Looking in about phone seems to confirm that. Am I right?
.62 f/w has .64 baseband
Thanks, so for anybody else having problems with the Neo V it seems the best way would be:
1: Flash .62 firmware
2: Flash KA kernel.
3: Boot into recovery, wipe all + install KA.
4: Flash neo-v patch.
Here is the stock firmware .62 as an update.zip (for installing with ClockWorkMod): http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1518148

I think I may have found the battery life problem. Looking at the battery usage under settings, the gallery app shows by far the most battery usage. When I go to apps and find gallery I see it's running a service called picassa sync. Disabling picassa sync on all the Google accounts and then force closing the gallery app seems to fix the battery usage. Can some other people please try it and confirm if it works?
After doing this the cpu time and amount of the battery used by the gallery app does not get any higher, even if I make sure the gallery is running again and it moves down the list and the highest battery usage becomes the screen.

and about the widgets.. did anyone seems to have a problem with it? Same with player pro widget, you can press the next button fine but the music title and the album thumbnail stays.

Front Camera not working! Bricked phone?

[Q] I really need some expert help on this guys!
<b>2012-03-23 updates on what further tests I've done:</b>
I've just flashed MT15i-Global.tft using latest flashtool in flashmode.
= did not work
Then tried wotanclient = did not work
Made fresh install of ICS beta(2different roms) = did not work
Please help me get my front cam working !
A few months ago the front Camera worked on my Neo but not anymore.
I cant really say if it just stopped working or had something to with flash of another rom.
I've rooted and flashed a number of phones before so i have some basics in this..
Currently running ICS on my Neo.
What I've tried to do to fix it.
1. Use SEUS but it said I have a modified android version and would let me restore...
2. WotanClient which restored it to .62 2.3.4. Failed at first attempt but succeeded at 2nd. >> front cam didnt work afterwards.
3. Tried other ICS roms and made several attempts.
The steps i took on installing another rom:
- installed fastboot
- connected phone
- run fastboot flash boot xxxx.img
- go into recovery
- wipe all, wipe cache, format system, dalvik and battery stats
- install xxx.zip
- up and running with non working front cam
Questions!:
1. How can I make a TOTAL restore of both bootloader, kernel, rom and everything to the stock firmware it got shipped with????? A step by step would be appreciated!
2. Any steps that I could have missed??
3. Anyone with similar problems?
4. How can I put it back to 100% stockrom to get warranty back and perhaps send on service?
FYI
The back camera also behaves strange on the ICS rom in skype/tango video call. It is miscolored.. On 2.3.4 it was ok.
Weird. Could this all be a firmware issue?
Can some provide all the tools i need to get it working? Or can I extract some logs or something that would help you find out if the front cam really is broken??
Where can I test the front cam or are there any appa to specifically test it in any way??
Desperate regards !

If it doesn't work after flashing official 2.3.4 firmware in flashtool with a full wipe, I'm out of ideas.
Does flashing with wotanclient really flash Everything?? Kernel, loader rom and wipes everything?? If the phone hasnt got a hardware fault something, it must be some step i did that sctewed something up.. Could try wotan again though but would rather have more people look into this before strarting flashing.
Afaik Wotan flashes / wipes everything and gets you back to clean Stock!
BUT, i already got problems wotan flashing / discovering the wrong phone type.
While i was trying out some different Kernels on my Phone (Mt11i SE NEO V), it seems that i picked a wrong Kernel and my Phone was showing me the Model Mt15i (SE NEO).
And even Wotanclient discovered a Mt15i...
Didn´t try the front camera at this point, but back cam was not working.
I tried to manually flash Mt11i Stock Rom/ Kernel (0.62) using flashtool.
Well flashtool did it´s work not completely, but far enough to reset the Model to Mt11i and Wotan flashed the correct Version afterwards.
My Hint, have a look at the Modellnumber in Settings, is it the right one ?

front camera solution
Hello and sorry for continuing this thread, but i have a query about the front camera of xperia neo v.
As all the above, I have the same problem with my front camera and I was wondering if I could somehow get the camera's apk file from gingerbread (the whole camera application - which is believed to be the last application compatible with the camera),would this solve the problem?
I am addressing aspecially to the developers .....
If anybody knows a way to solve this, please send me inbox a guideline.
Thanks in advance.
:good:
May be below the info can help you about the stock rom flash
1. Find the bootloader locker ftf (firmware file) file for Neo from the Internet (else inbox me I will find and will give you. I have that file but it's Neo V only). Once you flashed this file then Sony updater service will reconognize your device and do the update properly
2. Install Sony updater service
3. Connect your phone and choose the phone model then update to ICS
Hit thanks if it helped

[Q] HELP Camera FC with any rom

Hi folks, I have a very serious problem.
The camera gives FC always put any rom, any kernel, any wipe to do.
I have CM9. Everything worked fine, even the camera.
But a couple of days gave me the camera FC (and any camera application).
I wipe, and continued to give FC. I put the last nightly with wipes, and FC. I put the siyah. And did not work. I thought it maybe it was something rare CM9. So I went back to put the officer with wipes. Wrong. I put the siyah to see if the kernel improves somewhat, and there is no way.
Someone has thought the same thing? or know how to fix it?
Thanks in advance

[Q] Need Help - Can I Safely Go Back To Stock ROM And Kernel?

Ok i just wrote all of this out and it disapeared..
So il rewrite it all now! Joy!:crying: (Sorry if i miss details in haste to finish..)
Hello!
Im wondering if it is safe for me to revert me phone back onto Stock Rom and stock Kernal, and how I would go about doing this?
Heres my Phones Details:
Model Number- X10i
Android Version- 2.3.3
Baseband Version- 2.1.71
Kernel Version- [email protected]) )
Build Number- Wolf_Xperia_7.0.0x
It was a while ago i did all of this stuff to my phone, and I just wanna make sure im going to go the right way about doing it from Guys in the know!
The actual Rom I am running is Wolfbreaks 2.3 Rom V7b6 (ulbl version) It changes to that after you flash in xLoud & Bravia or something.
The main reason for me doing this is, My phone has become a pain.
It keeps Force Rebooting whenever I try to-
Run Larger Apps (Wheres my Water?)
Use my Internet
Charge my phone & text or something simple.
And 7/10 times it reboots, it deletes my Contacts, Messages, Email acounts and other data.
Can anyone give me a direction of how I can get my phone to be almost back to stock.
Basicaly, Stock 2.3 Rom and Kernel (and il just root it afterwards unless its already done)
I Imagine it will be as easy as flashing afew files in xRec or Flashtool.
But, What files should I use? and Which way should I flash them? In what Order? Etc etc..
Thanks for ANY feedback! Its much appreciated!:good:

You can always reflash your Stock Rom and Kernel. Personaly, I use Sony Update Service, but you can use latest Flashtool if you want.
Here you are a link for SEUS (Sony Update Service):
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
Install SEUS on your PC. Run it. Wait till it finished initialization. Folow instuction...After Flashing is over, you must Root your phone again with latest Flashtool. Before rooting, remember to go to phone Settings/Applications/Development and check USB Debugging box.

Thanks for your feedback!
I did consider using the official software for it, but was unsure if it would work right.
Souly I wasnt sure if it would replace the kernel back to stock aswel as the rom. Also, because of the Unlocked Bootloader.
So using SEUS will definetly set my kernel to stock aswel? and im assuming it will lock my bootloader again if i do so?
Thanks again so much for your reply =)
Oh! And also, Do you have any knowledge on why my phone is rebooting so drasticaly and deleting all my data?
Its defintly not over/underclocking.
My guess was it was the kernel/rom.
Don't worry about bootloader. It will remain unlocked. SEUS always flash Stock Rom and kernel as one. Just reflash your phone with official service, and root again with Flashtool.

And when you back to Stock, I can recommend you to flash Xrecovery with Flashtool. If you wanna flash Custom Rom I recommend you to flash ThJap's ThGo2 v.17. It's flashable through Xrecovery. For me one of the best GB rom out there.

Thanks again, il look into it.
I was considering DonutHD or something. It caught my eye earlier and looked pretty good. Think its a ICS rom for the x10.
But yeah, sorry for mentioning this again. But i think your missing my question because your giving me such speedy replies xD
I edited one of my comments, but i think you replied before you saw my edited version.
But do you have any idea about whats causing this terrible Rebooting/Deleting data problem? is it something youv seen commonly before?

You probably mess your rom and kernel by doing something wrong ( flash something bad and incorrect). I have used Wolfbreak Rom without problem.

Thanks again man. I probably did haha.
But ive used wolfs roms for ages, and never had the problem up until the ulbl doom version of V7b6. But the weird thing is, it gets consistently worse by the day!
Anyway, il give what you said a try early tommorow and report back hopefully with good news! =)
Il find out soon enough, if i put my phone on charge with internet on, in less than two mins it will reboot.
Thanks for your help man Greatly appreciated.
Yeah, quick reply and didn't saw at the moment. I have used DonatHD, also good one. It is also Gingerbread. ICS roms aren't quite finished for X10. Wait for Feravolt and Achotjan to finish their ICS roms, for now they are in Beta stages...
But, if you prefer Xperia S look, widgets, and apps, ThJap is better.
There you are some "how to":
You must be on Stock kernel with Xrecovery, flash ThGo2 v17 through Xrecovery, let the Rom boot for first time, do phone setup if you want(date, time, accounts...). Reboot in Xrecovery again, and then install new ThJap kernel Th n5-1 through Xrecovery.
Here you are link for kernel Th n5-1:
https://hotfile.com/dl/176929536/0f78d8d/2.3Th_kernel_n5-1.zip.html
And remember, don't use any CPU app for setting frequency and kernel governor like SETCPU, ROM TOOLBOX, NO FRILLS, because with this kernel you will get WLOD (freezes) and random reboots.

Dont use the overclocked version of doom kernel. I'm using wolf xperia 6.0.0s and doom kernel's mediun clocked version. It works very good.

Thanks for your feedback also =D
So, if i downloaded his medium clocked kernel. Can i just flash it over my overclocked kernel and it will be sorted? or do i need to flash stock first?
also, to flash a kernel in. is it flashtool i should use? and not xRec?
Thanks!
Have you done any "housekeeping" on your X10? Such as fix permissions or cleared your caches lately? Sometimes, with the issues you are having the phone needs a little cleaning. Wolf's rom is stable on most kernels that are stock based. When I ran this rom, I used a task manager to release memory esp. before using memory intensive apps. Hope this helps.

For Doomkernel, don´t need back to Stock. Just flash it through Flastool.

Nope, But i did after I read this.
Still no joy.. thanks anyway.
And thanks again Dzufa. Speaking of which, what made you think i was running the overclocked kernel? and not the medium one?
Because, im 90% sure i used the medium clocked kernel in the first place.
And on top of all of this..!
My x10 wont recognise on my laptop anymore.. so i cant get into flash tool and stuff..
Lets get some things straight. There no such thing like medium clocked. This is also overclocked version, but it's medium overclocked up to 1113mhz. Full overclocked CPU speed is up to 1228mhz, and, in many cases, causes freezing (WLOD). Default CPU speed is up to 998mhz.
Do you have SEUS installed on your laptop??? And, if you have, does SEUS recognize your X10i?

Hm? no such thing? And yeah in either case. I wasnt overclocking at all. Because when i first tried it. Always got WLOD so stoped within a day.
And Yeah i have SEUS installed, And Flashtool.
But nothing is recognising my x10. Not SEUS, Not flashtool and not even "My Computer" When i plug it in, my phone just behaves as if its being charged in the wall. No option to "Mount Sd Card"
Sorry for this problem going on for ever..
Im going to try and get it to recognise again now.
If it does, Im just gonna use SEUS to stock my phone again, then root it.
Then mayby consider Trying a different custom rom like the one you suggested.
(thats if it actualy works stock!)
Thanks for all your help man

Good News. Was just a dodgy cable! Charging my phone up to 90ish% then ill get it onto SEUS. And check the condition of it. If all goes well, i shall root it. If its still good, il look out some custom roms =)
Il keep you updated. Thanks
I'm not saying that you overclocked your phone. Mine is been overclocked for 2 years. I'm used Doomkernel v6 with 1113 mhz without any problem.
OK, try to uninstall Flashtool and SEUS from your laptop. Then restart your laptop. Install first SEUS, and connect your x10 via usb.

If that doesn't help read instructions from Crowd's thread about what to do if Flashtool don't recognize your X10.

Link abovementioned guide you to wrong post. Get back few post earlier and find about Recognizing your phone. Or read this, quoted text from that post by G-Face:
"If your phone is not recognized by Flashtool that means you don’t have the required drivers installed.
Open folder /Flashtool/drivers and install ggsetup-2.2.0.11
If after the above Flashtool still doesn’t recognize your phone, do the following:
From Flashtool/drivers folder extract the zip file XXX_ADB_driver which corresponds to your phone model Open “Device manager” on the computer and find the device which is with an exclamation mark on it (do this with connected to the computer phone) Right click on the device and choose Uptade driver Choose to find the driver manually and browse to the folder where you’ve extracted the zip file. That should install the required drivers on your computer".
