Basic is restore your backed up EFS folder or take to a service centre .

i restored my imei, i backed it up when i first bought the phone, as i do to all of my android phones, and when i restore it nothings changes, still no signal, and imei null/null

Hardware damage is more than likely the problem .
jje

Afaik the device has no warranty stickers inside. If the shop has not botched, you should be able to flash stock and claim warranty.
Note 2 things:
- in many countries in the first period (eg 6months) the shop has to prove you caused the defect through rooting.
- The seller and not Samsung has to provide the warranty.

the device has a black mother bored from the bottom because the repair shop kept the heat on it to long, this wasnt me, and 100 percent sure samsung devices dont come

Cannot fix damaged hardware via flashing you need a service centre .

I know, but I'm still hoping for him that it isn't one - even if it's most likely, you should never loose hope.
Do you know what's bothering me? I've never managed to do such a thing, so how do the others?
CyanogenModded Very China-like, from my Samsung Galaxy S III

Perhaps I'm missing something? People have offered solutions, you say they don't work, yet you want more solutions.
As said previously - if it's hardware related no amount of trying to fix with software will work.
If it is software try all solutions offered.
If that fails, buy a new one!

SGS2 wont power on?

I was in the process of flashing cm9 on my sgs2, i succesfully rooted the phone, booted into cwm recovery. Made a succesful backup. When i was in the process of wiping data on device, it took way too long to complete, so i pulled the battery to reboot into recovery and try again, but now it doesnt power up at all. Not system, recovery, download mode... Nothing.
What happened here? Can anyone please provide some advise to relive my phone of there is a chance?

I have the same problem of bricking my S2 because of the emmc brick bug. I would like to check is there are any other way to repair the phone without replacement of the maotherboard?
If I send the phone in to Samsung for replaccement of motherboard, will they be returning the faulty motherboard?
Thanks.

When this particular hardbrick occurs, only a MB replacement helps. Not Jtag. Sorry.
Edit: you can send it to Samsung and play dumb. Like 'put it to chrger in the evening, didnt turn on the next morning'.
Btw if the phone memory is inaccesible, they cant really figure out you've been tempering.

For your second question, they won't return your faulty MB. In their warranty agreement (assuming replacement through warranty. Maybe it doesn't count if the phone is out of warranty), they will keep the part that is being replaced.

I am about to have my o/w s2;s m/b replaced. It was clearly mentioned at the back of the service request document that faulty parts/equipments will be returned only on special written request. When I called the service centre, they said its not applicable to parts like m/b. Am I being fooled? Will they repair and put the m/b on resale? what should I do to get my faulty m/b back? any suggestions?
Thanks!
Why would you want the motherboard back when the most important thing on it (the NAND) is stuffed ? Not like there are any other parts on the board 99% of people would be capable of replacing themselves/canibalising to use on another phone.
And for the same reason, they're not going to put a 2nd hand board 'on resale'. Yes it will probably get recycled (depending on the country) like any other electronics. Which means being 'stripped' of the metals within the board/components & those will end up as scrap.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Stuck on boot screen "Samsung galaxy S III GT-I9300"

Hello All,
My Samsung galaxy s3 got rebooted and stuck on the boot screen "Samsung galaxy S III GT-I9300". Never rooted this device. Bought only on June 6, 2012. Just used two months.
Gave to the service center yesterday. They told my whole data on the phone will be lost. I don't have any backup also. Didn't expect this to become faulty so soon. The service center guys checked whether the phone rooted. They told me that the warranty will be void if the phone is rooted. Anyway my phone was not rooted. They tried to load the firmware using odin3.4. But it shows the status failed. They told me it could be the problem with phone's board and need to replace. Asked 3 days’ time for the repair.
I used iphone4s and blackberry previously but never had any issue. First time on android and Samsung Galaxy and gave me very bad experience.
Any chance to get new S3 phone replacement as it is used only 2 months. I am afraid that, the board replaced will be a used one and could create problems later.
Shame on Samsung for poor build quality!!
Anybody has similar expereince ?
Saju
Is there really a question here? It's bound to happen that a faulty device makes it out the door. Still, you should buy HTC, not Samsung, better build quality. There's probably a one in a 250,000 chance of faulty device. Your replacement will be fine.

There is always a probability to have a faulty device whatever the brand. This is why one should always backup important data.
This said, i think you're part of not lucky users. I have my S3 since 2,5 months. It's rooted, and I've flashed tens time without any hardware issue or regression.
Today I got my Galaxy S3 repaired. They changed the whole board.

Help, suddenly completely dead SGS3 !!

Hi all,
So I just received an SGS3 from a colleague at work and it was completely dead. I can't even get into recovery or download modes. The incident happened when my friend had his alarm clock on, he stopped it, then went away and found the phone completely dead as it was already on charge. I tried charging the phone but it seems not responding to anything, and I see no lights whatsoever.
What could be the problem? I have another colleague at work that has an SGS3 as well, I'll replace batteries and see whether it's a battery problem or something else.

The thing is it was working just fine...it only happened after the alarm clock incident as I mentioned...strange :S Worse thing is that there's a lot of images and videos in the phone that hasn't been synced with dropbox, only some of them...i'm sure my friend will lose that
Sounds like your phone has fallen victim to S.D.S (sudden death syndrome). The eMMC firmware that shipped with the stock kernel seemed to cause uneven wear-leveling which meant the components failed far before their expected lifespan.
At this point, assuming you can't reach download mode, all you can do is send the phone to Samsung and get it repaired/replaced. Most Samsung repair centers seem to be aware of the issue.

JTAG won't be able to revive the phone since this is a hardware failure rather than just a brick caused by bad flashing or a damaged bootloader. The entire motherboard of the phone will have to be replaced by the service center, which will be free.
Alright thanks for the Info guys...as long as it's still on warranty then my friend won't have to worry

Just as a side-note, is your friend aware that the latest 4.1.2 builds coming from Samsung include a modified eMMC firmware in the kernel which supposedly remedies this problem. I'm personally running the XXELLA build which includes the fix. He may want to check out flashing one of these builds to prevent it happening again, if the phone doesn't come back with the latest firmware already

Well I don't think that my friend is aware of that as he's not that experienced..I'm more experienced than he is though since I've been into Android since the first galaxy We reside in Dubai and our CSC code is XSG...not sure if our service centers have the fixed 4.1.2 builds yet for the Middle East version. Do the service centers have different builds than those in Sammobile?
Anyways I just hope he gets a replacement unit rather than having the motherboard changed.

I live in New Zealand and we've only just received 4.1.1 from our carrier, the updates are horrendously slow. I flashed the unbranded United Kingdom stock ROM instead as they tend to get the updates straight from Samsung very quickly. It works just fine and it's all official.
Guess i'll just flash it for him via odin if his phone didn't come with the modified emmc 4.1.2
Btw, I'm having trouble replying to posts via my phone and the xda app I keep getting Request function reply topic does not exist !!!!!!
Man that was quick....the phone has been repaired in 1 day...they said it might take 3 business days...motherboard has been replaced.
Now what should I do to prevent this emmc from happening again? ?

[Q] HELP my Galaxy S3 is dead!

I successfully rooted my phone and successfully installed the volume hack package and the battery fox for 4.0.4 (both I found how to do on this website) and for a good few months my phone was working fine on Android 4.0.4
Then one day I was replying to a text message the phone just switched itself off and wouldn't get past the boot screen where it comes up with the Samsung Galaxy S III logo. With no one offering me any help when I've posted about this problem on this site and various others and after searching google for days to find a fix as I am a Mac user (Heimdall) with no access to a PC (Odin) at all, I took it to a local phone shop, explained the problem to see if they'd be able to fix it. They had it for 2 weeks and when I went to collect they told me that the phone ended up having to be sent to Samsung and there was nothing they could do with it. (I figured that anyway as it was rooted). Now I have got the phone back, it's in a worse state than what it was when I took it into the shop. When I try to power on the phone, nothing happens at all, it's just a black screen. I assumed the battery might be flat so when I went to plug in the charger, the battery symbol shows but it's got a circle in the middle of it it as though it's loading but nothing else happens.
Does this mean my phone is completely dead for good with no fix at all?
If it's bin fodder I may as well sell it for parts and try to get a bit of money back out of it as I bought this SIM free and it cost me quite a bit back when it first came out.
I'd appreciate it if I didn't get a load of snotty remarks as though I'm the thickest person on earth! I am fairly new to all this and it's all I ever seem to experience from this website. Please only reply if you have a genuine answer to my problem.
Thank you.

Thank you for that, I'd never heard the term SDS (Sudden Death Syndrome) before. I didn't even know it existed! But anyway since you mentioned that, I did a search, found this link http://www.freesamsungrepairs.com and I called the number, they reckon they can fix it free of charge providing there's no physical or water damage (which there isn't) and all I have to pay is the postage fees! Galaxy S3 mainboard programming

Hi
I have the following problem. I dropped my Galaxy S3 into the water. After it got dried out, and cleaned several times, it turns on, and works more or less fine (the microfone is dead) for a few minutes (an hour tops) then it turns of without any logical reason. When it's turned on, it charges, but if I plug the charging cable in when it's turned off, a little yellow triangle appears with an exclamation mark in it. After several more cleanings, this problem still doesn't go away, and since in the S3 the charging panel is integrated with the mainboard, it seems I need a new mainboard. In the official Samsung store they said a ridiculously high price for the repairing, so I decided to do this at home. I found a brand new, unused mainboard on eBay(here), but they say it needs to be programmed (both IMEI and software) So my question is, is it something I can do at home, or it needs some special tools that only phone repairmans have? I can disassemble and assemble the phone, so I'm not afraid of that part, just I'm not sure if the programming part is possible without special tools. I found topics here where the repair of a hardbricked S3 is explained, just I'm not sure if that is the same as the programming of a clean mainboard.
Any help with this would be appriciated. Thanks.

As I said, it's a brand new, never used motherboard, it doesn't even have an IMEI number. And I don't want to use a fake one, I'd like to use the IMEI number of my absolutely legally purchased Galaxy S3. I found several topics about the IMEI number restore, so I'm not affraid of that one. I have my phone, it turns on, it works for a short time, the /efs is intact, so it can't be a problem to restore my old motherboard's IMEI to the new motherboard (by the way over the net motherboard and mainboard are both used).
But how did you mean it needs a very high knowledge of programming to program the motherboard? I thought the only thing I need is to somehow put bootloader and a recovery on the motherboard, and it doesn't actually needs any real programming work. I hoped it's something that possible somehow thru ODIN.
You are trying to amend the imei of the new motherboard, even if you consider this to be 'restoring' it's actually still illegal.
A new motherboard from a reputable source comes with it's own, original imei. I would suggest your ebay motherboard is not reputable.

Okay, but I said, IMEI isn't my main concern. Programming is. What is that mean in the case of a new motherboard? I doesn't have bootloader and recovery? Or it has, just there isn't an operational OS on it, so I simply have to flash one?
Imei should be your concern, as the one you are buying is either faulty or from a stolen handset, new motherboards are simply not manufactured with a blank emmc.

I don't know. But the seller has 100% positive feedback after more than 200 transactions. I tend to trust sellers with that reputation. They sold 16 of this motherboard, and they got no negative responses about it. It's the eBay, not some shady underground webshop.
I also think (but I have no knowledge about it, so I might as well can be wrong) it's possible that motherboards are manufactured with blank IMEI, since I don't think the IMEI number of the phone changes, when the official Samsung support changes the motherboard. That would make the phone look stolen, since the IMEI number is printed in the casing.

Nope. When motherboards are produced, it is programmed with one imei. As imei will NOT change, each phone has a certain imei.

It's funny, since with Galaxy S3 some new ROM flashings can overwrite IMEI. There are cases about it, even here on XDA. So it's absolutely possible to change the IMEI even unintentionally. I've seen cases over the net, where after the flashing a new ROM the IMEI is changed, or even got wiped out fully. It's not a coincidence they say to save the /efs, before doing anything with the ROM.
So can we just forget about the IMEI? What about this motherboard programming thing? What does that mean? They give it with absolutely no bootloader, no recovery? Or it has bootloader, can eneter download mode, just there isn't a fully operational Android on it yet, and I simply have to flash one with ODIN?

The reason is tat the efs got corrupted. Tats why the imei changed. And no one uses the imei tat is corrupted. Its impossible to use another imei apart from ur current one or corrupted one.

It's not impossible to change IMEI, just illegal. But it's not the important question here. So as I asked earlier, can we just forget about the IMEI part? What about the motherboard programming?

I don't know the answer on either of those questions. The only thing I know, there were 16 buyers who bought exactly the same motherboard I am considering buying, from the exactly the same seller, and neither of those gave negative feedback. To me it means the motherboards proved to be fully functional after building them into the phones, so there must be some way to make this work. The only thing I don't understand that how they mean its software needs to be programmed. An until I don't know more of it, I don't dare to buy it, because if it was something I can't do at home, and I need to pay to someone to do it, I might as well can pay for the official Samsung support for an official motherboard replace.

Dear sgtGiggsy,
I am in the same situation as you, but I made the mistake, I bought the board before reading about the IMEI and software. Please, in the meantime the board comes to my hands, keep me informed if you have news.
Thank you

Okay, I will, but right now it seems my phone came alive. Two days ago I turned it on, and it works flawlessly (except the microphone, which is still dead). I'm not sure if it stays this way, but as long as it doesn't go crazy again, I put the motherboard replacement thing aside. Now I just have to figure it out if I can replace the microphone, or I'll have to use it with headset from now on.
