From what I gather, you're asking if you need to un-root the damaged phone before you send it back to Asurion. The answer is no, just send it back as-is. Asurion doesn't care whether or not it's rooted.

O.. no. then what happens to the phone? will HTC know about it.. it's stuck on the boot-loader screen will that be a problem. when i called them i told them that my screen cracked. that's why they replaced it.. they don't know about the phone being stuck in boot loader will that be a problem what do you think? it won't boot up.. i'v rebooted it and it keeps going back to boot loader.. it says TAMPER and RE locked and Security Warning...

You're fine, just send it back in the envelope and forget about it. I honestly have no idea what Asurion does with them. Nothing will come back on you though.

Sup guy's just wanted to say thank's again.. i was a little worried about sending the phone back to the insurance guy's, with out it booting up normally.. so i went ahead and followed... Senior Member roids87, he pointed me in to the right direction. I went ahead and followed the link he gave me..
i would like to thank Finz28 also a Senior Member for helping me out and responding to my problem pretty quick.. Finz28 i did trust you, but i just didn't feel to comfortable sending back the phone as is. thank you.. i figured the phone was messed up o ready it couldn't get any worse..at least i thought... so i went to the site, and followed the steps.. slowly. i did everything they said to do.. And guess what i'm stock with the jb 2.09 hboot NICE...
I download the JB OTA firmware they said to use, and i had the fastboot files already. I have the SDK files all ready..
so i forced the JB OTA firmware by Jewel's using fastboot.. and followed the steps given
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash zip jewel_jb_ota_firmware.zip
Once that was done i ran the RUU _WWE_3.15.651.16 everything went well..except for the rom update.. the phone isn't connected to the network so i guess that's why i got an ERROR [171]: USB CONNECTION ERROR i couldn't update it.. that's what i think..
when i relocked the phone it said Tamperd, Re locked and i had a security warning... no it just say re locked only if i could get rid of re locked so it would just say LOCKED that would be nice... once again thanks for you help...
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK...

Did you try the fix people are talking about, waiting for cs and asking them to fix it, do you have error 16?
I had that problem waited talk to sprint customer care and they didn't now I am rooted with s-off hellz yeah
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I don't think running the RUU will revert back to S-on. I saw someone had ran the RUU yesterday and he reported that he was still S-off after running the RUU. I'm not sure how one would set it back to S-on at this point. With the Original Unrevoked for the Ev0, you had to flash a zip from recovery, it was called "unrevoked S-on tool"
you'll need to run the RUU then use fastboot oem setsucureflag 3
that should do it

and that 'fastboot oem setsecureflag 3' will work on a SHIP hboot? You said to never try setting S on if you have the ENG hboot, correct?

Also, does anyone have a link to a shipped hboot?

When revolutionary is run it resets your phone's activation. You need to run the hands free activation again. If it fails open up the Sprint Zone app and go to I need help, or you should have the option to activate right there. Let it activate, make sure you're on 3G and not wifi. After activation it'll reboot, at this point if you have the error 16 message stay on the line for Sprint to reset your account.
i ran the handsfree, reset the msid, talked to 2 reps, did the activation in the sprint app, did a reset, factory reset, and still get error 16...
Here's a little piece of advise that'll solve your problem.
It doesn't void any sort of warranty with sprint. So it's not an issue.

Did you talk to the reps that come on when you just wait after getting the error 16 or did you call *2 and ask for tech support? When I had the error 16 I just stayed on the line and before I even said a word the rep knew I was calling because of error 16.
for me the call would end after getting the error. But after 5 techs, they finally did the phone off update and now it works
I also talk to a rep. I had to turn off the phone turn back on it did some update then they had me dial a number see if it worked it didn't then had me call someone I knew then it stated working againg. Then had me to send a txt to my self recived that all good.

[Q] Manufacturer vs Assurion warranty

My TB is having charging issues, but since I bought it used I cant take it back to verizon, but I do have Asurion insurance on it...
My question is:
With verizon, they wont accept a return if its been rooted, but how about asurion?
I rooted my phone to try an wipe the battery stats, but it didnt work,
Ive gone back to stock, but cant seem to get S-on again... will they still take the phone?
thanx

If you follow the proven method to unroot your phone, you will go back to stock and s-on.
Sent from my Synergized Thunderbolt via XDA Premium App
this is the method I followed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423
the first file/image loaded fine, got me back to stock android
but the second image wouldnt load, from HBoot it would say "bypassed"
I have since accepted the OTA so im running build 1.70 now...
can I still try loading the second image (via HBoot) and seeing if it takes it this time, or will it only work while running 1.12 (or was it 1.13)
thanx

Asurion doesn't warranty anything. It's insurance. You're wasting your time, too, because on an insurance claim they don't care if they ever see the phone again. Tell them its currently deep sea diving.
So just tell them its not charging properly, then pay a deductible and they send me a new phone, then send them mine?
(I have an issue with the lying thing, but thanx for the input)
Danny
I doubt they would even ask. I've replaced phones through them 3 times. I would avoid sending them the phone though. Just tell them you aren't able to send it back and leave it at that.

[Q] Will Sprint check to see if my bootloader is unlocked?

I did the HTC unlock and now I've taken it off because my charging port is messing up and I get a replacement tomorrow. Does it matter it says re locked at the top of the bootloader? I'm S-ON with the 1.50 bootloader.
think u should be all set bro.. the odds of them checking are very low
I have read that Sprint's policy is to still service your phone. If they discover your phone is rooted, they will warn you about the "dangers" of rooting and go ahead with servicing the phone. Info was gleaned from GoodandEvo.com from a recent article.
I have turned in a couple of s-off phones in with stock rom and havent had any problems. Doesnt mean u cant get a ****.
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D using XDA
For any hardware problem there is a very low chance of them checking. If you had a firmware issue then they would more likely check

Sprint Error 16 seemingly unresolvable

I called sprint and have been messing about with what they told me to do but no luck. I had completely bricked my phone at one point and had to run RUU to get the system up and running again. I'm on the stock ROM again. Any ideas?
Oh also the other threads are really old and don't seem to fix my situation

After going to the sprint store twice and calling three times somebody finally helped but it did take 30 min
other option
I just called a random number on my phone and let the call automatically take me to error 16 tech support.
another option was to go to sprint.com/chat
the online version has been reported as quicker
Just don't tell them that you were rooting or unlocking bootloader or something like that. I just tell them that my phone dropped and powered off and that when I powered it wanted to update profile, firmware, prl and software and that in the end the Error 16 appeared... that gets them to fix it quick without holdups.
I had to get my phone replaced. Luckily I have best buys no deductible insurance. You get another $10 on wallet with a new phone

Warranty exchange after htcdev unlock

Has anyone done a warranty exchange after unlocking their device? Were you charged?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
I brought my phone into Telus last week after re-locking and returning to stock by running the RUU, and just got a call yesterday letting me know that there is a charge due to unauthorized software installed or something. So yeah, unlocking pretty much voids the warranty.
I don't understand... How did you relock? Without being s-off isn't devunlock a perm thing?

Odd, I've had the exact opposite experience with Telus. I've had my phone unlocked since day one and I bought a extra charger off ebay and something must have been messed with it as I made sure the voltage and mah was correct. Upon plugging it into my phone it basically just fried the battery and maybe something on the board I never really got a real answer from Telus. I brought it into the store and they just took it even after I told the dude I had rooted it and stuff, he just said it's mostly up to HTC if they want to repair it and that he wouldn't say anything. A week later my phone came back and the replaced the battery, main board, and sim tray for some reason. I didn't get charged for anything but its probably because they couldn't even power it on to see.

Just run fastboot oem lock in command prompt and it is re-locked then suitable RUU can be run to return to stock.
Ah yes that is right it will just say tampered

I returned it to stock following Hasoon2000's guide in the stickied post:

No dice, I'm picking up my phone and will either deal with the problem or replace soon.
