Phone Upgrade Soon.... - HTC One X+

So, I found out that I'm available for an upgrade on my AT&T HTC Inspire...the thing is...upgrade to what? I've been eyeballing 2 phones so far. I like the HTC family so I plan on staying in that area.
The Choices are:
HTC One X+ ($199) 64GB internal storage, 1GB Ram,
Chipset: NVIDIA Tegra 3 AP37,
CPU: Quad-core 1.7 GHz,
GPU: ULP GeForce 2
Browser: HTML5, Adobe Flash
Java: Yes, via Java MIDP emulator
~*~OR~*~
HTC One (available April 16th): 32($199)/64 GB($299) Internal storage, 2 GB RAM,
Chipset: Qualcomm APQ8064T Snapdragon 600
CPU: Quad-core 1.7 GHz Krait 300
GPU: Adreno 320
Browser: HTML5
Java: Yes, via Java MIDP emulator
I just don't know which one I would want. Any and all help is appreciated.

Could you be a little more specific and possible reason for choosing? Pros/cons and personal experience would be helpful.

Honestly, if I had to choose it would not be HTC at all, but rather the nexus 5 (whoever makes it). But since the choices are hox+ or the one, there is no reason not to wait 2 weeks for the latest/greatest from HTC. HTC releases phones so fast development cannot keep up. The hox+ will soon be forgotten after the ONE is released.

I agree they will forget us but the devs here at XDA won't anytime soon.
Personally I would go with the One. It's bound to be a whole lot smoother and more durable. Plus the latest Sense already installed.
The downside is going to be the One's 4mp camera.

No contest, I will pick the One over the One X+. The One, except for the awkward name, is a totally new and advanced design while the One X+ is a remodel of the One X. Buying a HOX+ now when the One is available makes little sense, especially when the price difference is only about $50.

Gah...I've been so busy...totally forgot about this!
Ok...NOW my choices are:
HTC One
Galaxy 3
Galaxy Note 2
I may need to move/(have it moved), this thread to the above mentioned device forums.

Disregard the S3 please, it's not even a worthy choice. I'd rather choose between the One and the N2. What matters most is what you will do the most to the phone and which one will benefit you on your daily needs. But if i'm to choose between those two, i'd really find it hard to pick one. It's just a matter of self preference. The N2 is still a nice phone, though if you're into intensive gaming, the One will beat it any day. But productivity-wise, the S-pen would be a helpful tool. It's up to you then. Both devices are great tbh.

I just back from the AT&T store...went ahead and got the Note II. I decided against the S3 because as soon as the S4 comes out, it'll be just like the HTC One X+.
I wanted to get the HTC One, but I have this thing about brand spanking new phones....there's always going to be some glitch or hiccup at first. Not to mention...the screen was jam-packed full of crap(like news and such...very Windowsy)...too busy for my tastes. Other factors for not purchasing the One: no SD slot and integrated battery (This, being the main factor). To me, it's a little iPhoney. I want to be able to get a new battery if need be and not have to send off my phone in case something goes wrong. 16GB is more than enough for what I need it to do, and I have a 64GB SD card, so I will good on memory.
I want to thank everyone for their input. It means a lot to me.:highfive:

Sense 4.0

Sweet, we know it exists. I'd be nice if HTC told us when to expect it. Any idea?
They won't officially say when, until they are ready to deliver it, except in very general terms like 3Q 2112 2012...
Edit** Might be 100 years...

Damn 100 years from now :/
it'll most likely make it's debut in quad-core phones around sep/oct+ and if it comes to the rezound(may not though) it won't happen until 2013.
I say we'll see Sense 4.0 officially the same time we see ICS officially, which is probably late spring, early summer.
I don't know if we are getting sense 4.0, that might only be reserved for s4 processors and tegra 3
I'm living on a yellow submarine
I forsee Sense 3.6 ontop of 4.0.1. HTC's response " Got One X?"
Don't we have a 4.0.3 leak already?

Yeah we do. Just saying it would be pretty funny if HTC did that lololol. 3.6 ontop of 4.0.1. If that happens we know the T in HTC stands for troll.
Why is it on HTC's website that the one x has a dual s4 processor 1.5 GHz and not a tegra 3
sent from my sexy Htc Rezound
because, in america, it's being released as a dual 1.5 instead of the quad..don't ask me why lol
Cause Tegra 3 isn't LTE compatible.

Saw that a little while ago. That's only going to accelerate the bad attitude towards HTC that's been building lately. So much for their flagship phones in 2012 promise, huh?
That's good for my psyche though. My jealousy meter pegged at 0 once I heard that. Not to mention ATT (I've had no real issues with them, but I've always worked out in the sticks where only E is available).

Not HTC's fault that Nvidia couldn't deliver LTE compatibility. If you're going to bash on HTC.. Why not get a different brand of phone? That's the wonders of Android! Choices! TBH we won't even need quadcore on our devices.. It's a huge unecessary hardware bump used to cover up crappy coding that Google still hasn't fixed. It's just the nature of the beast know as Android. The dualcore coming up in the one X blows away our dualcore in benches. But for everyday performance probably no difference. I'm going to just post this http://www.anandtech.com/show/5559/...mance-preview-msm8960-adreno-225-benchmarks/2 so your jealousy meter will go back up .
im not too bright when it comes to understanding processors...
so the American version of the one x has a Qualcomm's S4 Krait processor (dual core 2x) but the global version has a Tegra 3 processor (quad core 4x)?
how much of a difference is between the two?

For everyday usage you won't notice a damn difference between the two. At this point I feel that all dual core phones are unecessary. There's just nothing in the market that really challenges the current devices on the market. All I can really see is use quadcore bench, flex epeen at smartphone benches = win? If you're talking about performance differences don't even sweat. I'm sure there will be better 3D performance on the s4 and tegra 3, but original point, nothing on the market to challenge our hardware. If you're talking about physical architecural differences in each processor, check out the wikis for each perspective processor.
honestly, i don't even care. those new phones, from the start, i KNEW were going to be for ATT or Tmo..look at the design, it's just like HTC's stuff on those carriers anyway..verizon's HTC stuff looks much different.
either way, i'm not upset in having the rezound, because honestly, it's perfect. i highly doubt any of that stuff is that much of a big step up from the rezound, so i'm def not feeling any buyers remorse lol
True that. We have the best hardware. Still....I had a rezound....took it back. Got a gnex...then ditched it for a rezound. I think this is the perfect phone. Its sturdy, and has what I want. Beats, great camera, and it has good radios...

I think i read something on either Phandroid or AndroidCentral when the S4 was announced that it actually out-benched the Tegra. If nothing else, it was close.

Hence the link that Zets just linked a few posts up. The S4 chip (which I was initially hoping the Rezound was going to be released with) is pretty bad ass and is some competition with that Quad from Invidia. I am just wondering what the power consumption would be like with the Nvidia (Quad plus one) and the Dual of the S4 chip. Curious how this will play out...
All in all, just as others have stated, these newer phones have a marginal increase in horsepower compared to the Rezound and that's pretty much it besides being released with Sense 4.0. I'll sit back and enjoy my Rez for a bit longer than I expected and happy to do so.

One X+?

Why can't HTC give the right time and effort to one model instead of burning out the current ones so fast?
why releasing the One X+ so fast, I think this is very bad policy
I think, that they are trying to follow SGS3. They made same with Sensation. First was Sensation, then Sensation XE. It is shame for top device.
http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/htc-one-x-plus/
I know, it really isn't enough of an upgrade to warrant a new model.. I left HTC because of unnecessary new models when I had my sensation but I thought things would be difference with the One series. I think the yearly upgrade cycle that Samsung and Apple uses is the best for customers, otherwise the phones just lose value so quickly.

I left HTC too. I have SGS3 and I am more than happy. Always have had problems with HTC. BTW I was long time HTC user. Since Diamond times.
Meh, it's not LTE so I don't care...
I do see your point though - why bother with a flagship when you're going to outdate it in like 6 months...

I don't dig the black and red. White is still the best, imo.
I am sure they will come out with an LTE version here in the States. The bigger battery is nice, and I am curious to see if the LTE signal issue has been fixed.
are the folks incredulous to this new to Android?
6 months is about right for a flagship to be old and busted on Android.

Actually it does have LTE. That is the main selling point of this version of the Tegra3, is that it finally gets its LTE radio. A variant of this passed through the FCC 2 weeks ago bound for AT&T.

Smartphones and tablets are now in the same phase PCs were in 10 years ago, where you buy the top of the line and it's outdated in two months. You can't expect your phone to be the best forever. I welcome this, it means there is fierce competition and we'll have more awesome devices to choose from. Not to mention the One XL is still a top end device and will be among the best for another year or so.
Guys. if 1.5 Ghz quad core tegra is slower than our 1.5 Ghz dual core, who's to say that it will have any noticeable bump to the 1.7 Ghz quad core. Especially now that we can overclock our S4's. Plus since we're dual core, it is easier for us to overclock to higher frequencies. The only real benefit I see of this version is the increased battery and the red button lights

Still doesn't stop you, or anyone else, from looking at the current threads. Search is a tool, not a be-all-end-all of what threads exist.
On topic:
The HOX+ shouldn't be affecting anyone here, unless you really want to be that bleeding edge. I hate to say it, but this HOX+ is to the HOX as the iPhone5 is to the iPhone4S. I don't care what reviewers and HTC say, this is an incremental update, not a groundbreaking innovation; that's what the HOX was.

Agreed. Love my One X, doesn't see anything in the One X+ that makes me regret my purchase.
There will always be something better in 6-8 months. Always.

One X+ looks awesome but is that it?

Hey guys, I love the look of this phone, my favorite color scheme has always been red and black. But I don't want a good looking phone if its not going to perform like I want it to.
So my first concern is developer support. Since this is a very slight upgrade it is possible not many people in the development community will buy it unless it is compatible with the International One X roms? Will this be the case or not?
Second is to due with the Tegra 3. From my understanding the new S4 Pro destroys this processor. My current phone being a sensation which constantly lags I don't want to ever be subject to lag again. Is there really that much of a difference in the two processors?
Third is to due with the ram, 1gb compared to the 2gb in phones coming out now seems lackluster. What do you guys think of this, is it a huge limitation or is the 2gb of ram a fad?
Thanks guys
Thanks guys

I would imagine there would be some modifications that would need to be made and then ported over. I say this because from what I have seen on the one x, the Jelly Bean base which is out there for the one x+ will not work properly.
I would say go for the one x+ as it is the perfected version of the one x. All of the mistakes have been rectified. I have always stuck with HTC, although I do hear good things about Samsung.

1gb ram is plenty for the moment. It will be good to go for another year or two even. Tegra is very good from personal experience, and from modifications they have made for the one x+ it seems it will be a worthy contender to be matched with!
Quad core is only really utilised when gaming. So if your a mobile gamer then this shall do the trick!

I don't understand your points:
- 1GB is enough because of non-multitasking "feature" doesn't need more RAM? (Though it's a bit better now)
- Tegra is very good from personal experience? Are you kidding? I owned Galaxy Tab 10.1 (tegra 2), Asus TF Prime and Asus TF Infinity and for me Tegra SoCs are [email protected]

Need some talking into One X+

I know this isn't going to be the most unbiased place for honest opinions but I'm up for a dealer line on AT&T and I can choose from a couple different devices. I can get the S3, Optimus G, and One X+. I've always loved HTC phones and ESPECIALLY love the way the HOX feels in hand. I went into AT&T and tried playing around with the Optimus G but was turned off by how wide it felt in my hand. It's not Note wide but still wider than I'd like a phone to feel in my hand. I thought I was gonna fall in love with the screen but the One X is still a little better. The ONLY thing (and the reason I'm here) holding me back is the RAM. I'm not going to be tweaking the hell outta my phone, but I plan on unlocking it and putting a few custom ROM's on there. I just wanna know how limiting the 1GB of RAM is going to be for me? More is obviously better, but from an end result how important is it? Thanks guys. And one last question, how far along is development for ROM's? Is it comparable to something like the S3? Or better?
It's not 1 gig of ram it's 1.7 quad-core and very fast and smooth I can't speak on the other phones mentioned but I'm pleased with it.

Paradoxically I suggest Samsung.
2 is more than 1.
The HTC is as fast as laptop and sound is amazing if you play high res flacs.
Gotta love these useless threads. Oh please tell me what to get, I can't read phone specs on my own, I can't have a mind of my own, I need someone to tell me. Oh geez. Just go to ATT and play with em all. Walk out with what feels right.
I'm not one to "tell you" what to get, but I've had all 3 (S3, Optimus G, and finally, the HTC One X+) and I can easily say, the HTC is the best physical designed phone, while the Optimus G is way to wide for my liking. I also didn't like the S3 because of its plasticy build and that it only had a dual-core and wasn't new hardware. I'm really digging the HTC and am gonna keep that.
P.S. From what I've read on other forums, the HTC's 1GB of RAM is faster than the 2GB of RAM, but I still would have preferred the Snapdragon S4 Pro and 2GB RAM over the Tegra 3 and 1GB RAM.
Hope this helped!
I think its simpler.
Don't forget that Samsung produce memory for different devices. For them fit 1Gb or 2Gb its not cost effecting final product but as we can see it works as marketing.
And even that little thing stops buying HTC.
Phone its very fast and can close all apps as to start it again is almost the same time.
I agree with you on the optimus, had the s3 and I just didnt like the samsung home button and ran kinda of hot for me. I ended up going with the "2 gb ram" note 2, hello a bigger s3 and returned that as well and now have an htc one x+ and so far pretty pleased. It kinda reminds me of my favorite smaller android devices that I got early on which was the htc aria. Just feels right in the hands so far and very powerful. I'd definitely go with the one x+ from the ones you mention.
Phones only need 1GB of ram. My note had 2GB of ram but i see no performance advantages to having it.

This is pretty much what I was asking about. I wanted to know if HOX's 1GB really puts it at a disadvantage vs other 2GB RAM devices. Especially in the next year or so.
FYI:
On Android OS free RAM is dead RAM as discussed here
I never had ANY problems with running out of RAM on my One X nor my One X+

FYI:
On Android OS free RAM is dead RAM as discussed here
I never had ANY problems with running out of RAM on my One X nor my One X+

The two Meg of memory have a rather noticeable impact making multitasking much more powerful letting more apps run in parallel and reducing lags due to gc.
However, the one x+ apparently does some trickery to keep a good amount of memory free (even though the official Android parameters are still set lower).
In short, 2GB are a plus, but the one x+ never lets you feel the 1GB "limit". All runs smooth as butter...

Painful legacy left Windows more and more memory.
You didn't write what phones you had before but I think One X is one of the best and like everyone here I am pleased.
You don't need that 2Gb. Its plays with big files faster than my brand new laptop. And don't crash like Windows.
You will be happy.
If you go to shop you can find that those guys use stereotypes or therms what they read or heard.
Also they are on commission what sell. So can direct you somewhere else.

I've had an Evo before, a Galaxy S2, Lumia 900, couple Blackberries, etc. Pretty much a bunch of midrange devices through different OS'es. This is my first jump into flagship territory and just about the only two things holding me back from the One X+ are the 1GB of RAM and the mixed reviews on the Tegra 3 vs say a Snapdragon S4 or other dual core chips. I sell phones myself and that's why I cam get an OG, HOX+, or S3 right now. I wanted to just wait for the N4, but tbh I wasn't completely blown away by it. I initially looked at the G until I held that and the HOX+ in hand and I really liked the way it felt. So I may just go in and change that order.
Thanks for all the advice guys.
I came from a long line of HTC phones. I decided to give the s3 a shot. I used it for about two weeks and I flashed some custom roms. All the software and performance were great. However my main reason to exchanging it for the X+ was the s3 build quality. At the end of the day your phone is a phone. How does it feel in your hand? Can you use it with one hand? I could not get over the plasticy feel and loose bottoms. Side note on the loose buttons: I had the sales rep show me 3 brand new s3s they all had loose or some what loose buttons. I have to say the build quality and performance are fantastic on the X+. Exactly what I was looking for.

Till now, 1gb of ram is enough on HOX+ as it's fast & smooth. I suffered with huge amount of installed apps on my Galaxy Nexus in term of ram (1gb). But I never noticed that with same apps on HOX+.
As the new Nexus is coming with 2gb ram, I think 2gb of ram will be needed soon.

Looks like Nexus soon will get more operational memory than for apps and music.
Is internal memory slow? How many heads has a disk in HTC. 64Gb could be one. LOL

HTC M7 - The DNA on Steroids?

So I saw this today on a new HTC model the M7. A few of the specs have leaked, but nothing substantial. Take a look at what we know so far:
LINK
"The HTC Droid DNA has been on the market for only two weeks (and we’re still waiting on the international launch for the HTC DLX), but HTC is already focused on its next flagship device. According to multiple sources, HTC is working with semiconductor and casing suppliers in an effort to secure enough components to manufacture 4 to 5 million units of the HTC M7 in Q1 of 2013.
Exact specifications of the mysterious HTC M7 are a bit vague, but with a little bit of research we’ve been able to pull together quite a bit of information about the phone. Form what we can gather, the HTC M7 will feature a 5-inch HD display, a uni-body aluminum shell, Qualcomm APQ8064 quad-core processor and a 13 megapixel camera."
Welcome to the smartphone industry. Its like clockwork and always will be

Not the DNA on steroids, more like...the exact same specs as the DNA in an aluminum case. So it'll basically be the One X+++ and will go to the crappy carriers to bolster their failing markets, or go to Europe. New Year rumors for HTC devices usually means a GSM release. Wake me when HTC actually creates a unified device line instead of their scatter-shot releases like they promised last year.

IPhone 5 and Droid DNA hybrid. I think HTC has sunk to a new desperate low. Paying off Apple and releasing every product they have on every operating system and hoping one sticks.
Here is some advice HTC. Having something that remotely resembles a plan will do wonders rather than going full throttle without a plan.
I'm not entirely certain why people with the DNA are upset?
It was clear from the DNAs specs that HTC would have a better flagship next year (the DNAs camera is the same as the HOX).
As predicted, aside from physical changes, the only thing new is the Camera.
So, Verizon customers get a device 4 months before everyone else, sacrificing only a camera and aluminum unibody. Not a bad deal TBH.
HTC needs something exciting like bringing back the aluminum unibody. The Desire HD is a fantastically solid device, and the HTC M7, if real, is a perfect replacement.
Surprised Qualcomm hasn't announced a better SoC than the APQ they are using currently...

I'll be waiting to see if a phone comes out with the MSM8974 under the hood. :fingers-crossed:

More likely this...
At present, this [S4 Pro] is the same Krait CPU as what we've seen in MSM8960 in phones like the USA versions of the Galaxy S 3 and HTC One X. Later on, Krait v3 will emerge with higher IPC and shorter critical paths (and clocks up to 1.7 or 2 GHz) and a resulting 10-15% boost in performance. For now however we're looking at 1.5 GHz APQ8064 with a Krait v2 inside and Qualcomm's newest scalar GPU architecture with Adreno 320. We're going to talk more about Adreno 320 closer to devices shipping, when Qualcomm feels comfortable talking architecture.

Architecturally, S4 Pro is just S4 with two additional cores and a different GPU.

I still hate how they coined the quad core as the s4 pro bc originally the S4 Pro was the MSM8960 Pro SoC which was the 8960 with the higher better GPU..... Then ppl started calling the quad the pro...

Don't we all have a DNA who ever is posting in this thread no reason at all to upgrade because it's not an upgrade except for the camera.

Are you sure it wasn't the "Plus" and some people thought it was "Pro"? It is officially called "Plus" now at least.
I've seen stuff like this happen though. My HTC Touch had a "micro usb" port for charging which the manual and other references stated. Then that plug somehow became "Mini" and the "Micro" is now a different one. I remembered I wanted to buy another charger on Amazon a year or so after getting the phone and was very confused until I figured out that they changed the name.

Yeah, I'll take the plastic. It might scratch easier, but I like the feel of the DNA and the plastic protects the internals more from the shocks of impacts.
Maybe it's because my first phone was an HTC, but I always find myself rooting (oh, the puns) for them. I guess it's the whole underdog thing. But they need to ditch the carrier exclusive nonsense. There should be a flagship device pushed out across the bigger carriers, and that's that.
I have the thunderbolt, and my memory isn't short. I ask myself what will happen in 2 years with this phone? I'm still waiting for ICS on my bolt. What assurance do I have that the DNA or any subsequent phone wont end up in the same boat after the initial craze dies down?
Duely blundered from my thunderdolt.
I expected this device next year with a better camera and krait v3 process. I don't know why everyone is bashing HTC. The DNA was a Verizon and Japan exclusive just for the winter to compete with note 2. This device is going to compete with galaxy s4 the reason why they released the DNA and butterfly this year and exclusive is because if this was international then next year they would have had to release another phone with a better camera and processor to compete with galaxy s4.
The fact that they have done the national beta release and an official international release they have avoided the mistake they made with sensation-xe and one x+x+. Rather this time they have released the next year flagship exclusive to see what the flaws are so next year it will not be hit and miss like the one x. They have also got a new marketing VP so it looks Like they are taking things seriously. Some people on Xda need to stop bashing HTC as their flagship cycle has changed for the better the people who bought the DNA are stupid if they wanted this as they should have waited.

don't know.... the name's m7, to me that sounds like tablet area, if not, it's probably the eu version of the dna, like the codename for the one x is endeavor it's probably something like that, what was once being rumored as the htc zeta is today the dna 5inch qualcomm quad and all.
Thats upsetting, but this is the way of the smartphone world and always will be. I wonder if the camera will be much better?
Hopefully it comes out in the next 14 days so I can exchange my DNA LOL.
