SG2 CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightlies - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi im looking to do something with my SG2 im half way through my 2 year contract and need to inject new life into it
at the moment im running the official spanish version of JB which i installed through Odin
Ive looked at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2036229
But ive always been conscious about trying anything as ive been scared about the SuperBrick bug
Well the current JB i have is draining the Battery so im looking to try this Cyanogen
I checked to see if i have ClockworkMod Recovery installed but it boots into PhilZ ouch 4 CWM Base version 6.0.2.7
I assume this is a personalised version of CWM do i need to install another version?
am i ok to progress the CyanogenMod install??
Phone Details
Model GT-i9100
Android Version 4.1.2
Basband Version I9100XXLS8
Kernel Version 3.0.31-816988
Many Thanks

Brick bug only affects 4.0.4 firmwares.
Yes, you may proceed using Philz CWM recovery.
Just do a full wipe before flashing CM.

It doesnt really matter as long as u wipe..
But since ur gonna wipe it anyway, why not wipe before flashing (to get a clean slate for CM)?

[Q] Downgrade to ICS

so i've decided to downgrade back to ics as im getting kinda bored with jelly bean. can i safely flash stock ics firmware via mobil odin? as i cant use usb connection as my pc wont detect my device. also i saw in a thread something about a brick problem with 4.0.4. what is all that about and can i flash stock Australia XSA I9100XWLPW ics 4.0.4 from Mobile Odin safely or will i need to flash 4.0.3 and upgrade ota?
Fix your usb problem first. If you dont theres a chance you could be in trouble.
You can flash firmwares directly using Mobile Odin. And brickbug affects stock 4.0.4 firmware with stock kernels.
For more info, feel free to use search..

i have flashed other firmware via mobile odin, was just curious if there was anything i should know about downgrading. also i had a bit of a look but im not sure i understand what it means by brickbug affecting 4.0.4 roms and stock kernels. does that mean it wont work at all with stock 4.0.4 kernel? and do i need to do something extra to use 4.0.4?

Mate, you really need to read a lot more.
Downgrading/upgrading is no different when ur flashing a firmware via Odin/Mobile Odin. And like theunderling said, a working computer connection might save u one day...
As for Brickbug, there are many threads here that will help u out..

ok so after some reading what i understand is that the brickbug only comes about if i wipe with CWM on stock 4.0.4 with stock kernel?
therefore if i have a custom kernel like siyah or use stock recovery to wipe everything should be fine?
You just answered your own question with the first sentence of your last post.

Good work!
Brickbug occurs when u wipe with CWM while on a stock kernel on 4.0.4. If u flash a custom 'safe' kernel, no more risk of bricking even if u wipe.

hi there. noob here, just making sure I understood this superbrick issue: if I flash via ODIN a 4.0.3 official firmware+kernel, I am safe from the bug even if I wipe data/factory reset later? thanks...
As long as you're not on 4.0.4 you're safe.

Stuck at bootloop after nandroid restore

So today i felt like restoring a previous nandroid backup i made a year ago. i was on 4.0.4 stock+siyah and wanted to go to jelly bean if im not mistaken (cant remember for sure tho). Thing is i tried to wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, but still, i cannot get rid of this bootloop. any ideas ? thanks
PD: id prefer not flashing a stock rom with odin nor restoring back to my other backup if possible
That may be what you'd prefer, but think about it logically given what you've already tried/what hasn't worked. You don't have any other option.
Am confused..
Is the OP trying to restore 4.0.4 or is he already on it?

Since solving the bootloop is more important now, I suggest you do what MistahBungle said..
Flash a stock JB firmware via Odin, then if bootloop is overcome, you can root it and restore your JB backup.

Amazing that the guy who suggested the most logical (and only) fix got ignored for 3.5 hours, yet the OP ends up accepting the same advice from other people. The stupidity of people on here never ceases to amaze me.

Siyah v4 is not compatible with JB 4.1.2. Siyah v6 is.
If you cannot get into recovery menu, try flashing Siyah v6 beta 5 kernel via Odin. Then try to enter Recovery.

Yup, wipe data, cache and dalvik cache in CWM and flash CM10 and then GApps zip. Then reboot.
If you still get into a bootloop, it could be an issue with the CM10 nightly. Check for corrupted or broken file. Or download another nightly.
Good luck!

Are you sure its bootlooping? The first boot usually takes time.
Try doing a data, cache and dalvik wipe again.
Update:
Just re-read ur post now. There is NO STABLE CM10 got the I9100!! Are you sure you downloaded the right ROM?

i had some issues with siyah kernel and cyanogenmod 10.1,
what helped for me was trying another kernel ( dorimanx kernel v 8.13 ) in combination with cyanogenmod 10.1
i cant find the download link for the dorimanx kernel v 8.13 maybe someone could post it here for you.
http://www.get.cm/?device=i9100 here u could find the dorimanx 10.1 firmware
Good Luck
Mate 8.13 is not for cm10.1 its for stock/custom 4.1.2 , cm10.1 is 4.2.2 right kernel is 9.13.

That wouldn't be a problem here mate, because when flashing CM10, Siyah kernel is replaced by the stock CM kernel.

[Q] Phone won't boot after flashing kernel

I have the supernexus 2 rom and i'm trying to flash dorimanx kernel.
After flashing the kernel and after i get the dorimanx logo the screen would turn black and it won't boot.
i tried the same with different versions of dorimanx kernel and also siyah kernel but they also do not work.
What does the people in the supernexus thread say?
Stick with the kernel the dev posted for the ROM.

They was able to flash the kernel without any problems, i don't know what's wrong with my phone.
Go back to whatever kernel it suggesed in the OP and try Dorimanx again.

Can you get into recovery? If so, mount your sd card and load another ROM, flash it, don't forget to factory reset, wipe cache, dalvic. Good luck
I did go back to cyanogenmod kernel which is the main kernel for this rom by using a backup.
I still can't use dorimanx kernel.
I need it for the battery life optimizations.
If it won't work i might go to CM rom or aokp, but i don't need all of the customizations they offer.
I know this sounds dumb, but have u tried wiping cache, dalvik and fix permissions after flashing Dori?

OK, will do.
I think it is the Kernel I am using....3.0.64-CM-ge8aa6a7
Is the recovery tool built into the kernel? If so, can anyone recommend;
a) a different kernel?
or
b) How I can flash to the latest Revolt 4.3 ROM as I have only been running the Revolution ROM until his new build was released (Needs TWRP to install)
Ta muchly.
Yes it's built into the kernel. Dorimanx 9.xx will be good for 4.3 rom and also I'm guessing cm10.1 4.2.2 rom. It's cwm but should install that rom and run it. Also Apollo kernel has twrp if it's a must and seems to run 4.3,have a read of the thread.
